I have never lived near a Wegmans but I have been to this location a few times while visiting the area. Wegmans is known to be one of the best grocery chains in the USA. Consumer has rated it the best large grocery chain on several occasions. Forbes has called it one of the 100 best places to work for several different years too. Wegmans is based outside Rochester NY, its privately held, and operates 92 stores. Not all the stores are as upscale as some. The chain is now over 100 years old. Some of the newer stores in pricey areas are quite impressive and this store is one of them. The service at Wegmans is pretty good. I was there yesterday the 23rd of Dec and it was very busy. A double lane of cars waiting to get in the parking deck. I saw some turn around and give up but once in line the traffic flowed well and parking spots were to be had. Not bad! Their parking deck is a huge double decker lot, so theres lots of spaces. You can also go directly into the store from both the top or lower levels so no need to use anything like an elevator or stairs. I love to look at the displays and offerings. Its a big store at this location and offers just about everything! In my opinion Wegmans is lower priced than Whole Foods or Fresh Market yet has the same upscale feel. I watch prices quite well but with so many things its timing, especially on produce so I think its difficult to exactly say who is always more or less. Help is very courteous and friendly. I asked one guy where dried Italian Mushrooms were. He was on the phone and already doing like 2 things at once and offered to take me there! Well I didnt need that, just give me the aisle # and letter. They have like 14A 14B etc. But I appreciated his offer on a very busy day when the store was packed. It has a large fireplace burning on the upper floor where customers can lounge. There is also inside and outside dining areas there for those who wish to eat there at the store. There is a huge pay per pound food bar. I think it was like $9.49 a pound. Pricey yes but so much to choose from. Ive never seen one so large. The Mediterranean bar which has loads of all kinds of olives is super. They also had veggie noodles too where the noodle is really stinged vegetables and they had several diff squashes, and even beet noodles. I posted some pics of those. For vegetarians this would be great! They are squeezing oranges there live and then they pasteurize it and set it on the shelf. In the food dining areas they had one at a time dispensers of forks, spoons, napkins and the machine showed the savings these machines have to the environment. We have all seen the folks that grab loads of extras for no reason and then throw them out. Ive not seen these before but where I live in Atlanta it would make sense as there is so much grabbing by the handful of everything! I appreciated this market more than ever today! I was in the mood for some freah red snapper. The fish selection here is much larger in variety than the local markets. The prices are about 20% overall but I enjoy the atmosphere and selection of product when I do come. read more

The Wegman's in Columbia has the distinction of having a whole second floor of seating, making it ideal for working. There is a large balcony section overlooking produce and prepared foods, and an outer section that feels more private looking out over the parking lot (this section has higher AC and is colder). There is also an outdoor balcony, if the season is right! All this can be accessed through the store and up an escalator, or by parking on the second deck of the garage. All types of people hang out there, from the mahjong ladies to business professionals to some real weirdos. It's a great work location, although can get crowded at lunch. They have done a great job with this area, and have succeeded at actually getting people to hang out at the grocery store! The grocery store itself is great, especially the prepared foods section, bakery, cheese, etc.. I notice the content of Wegmans prepared foods differs from place to place, and a few of my favorites are missing from here, but they have so much stuff you really can't go wrong. You can get pretty much anything your heart desires. Watch out, though, the $$$ adds up fast! A friend did once get food poisoning from the sushi, so tread with caution there. I myself have eaten the sushi many times and never gotten sick. The Burger Bar is a little weird, and the people who work there are sort of off-putting, I've noticed. I don't know what's up with that, but definitely my least favorite part of the store. Coffee area and sub shop are always great though. The grocery side of the store itself is the usual. They have good organic foods and an impressive selection of bulk foods. Their produce is generally quite good, too. The Wegmans brand products of frozen foods, dairy, sauces, etc. are usually pretty good too, and fairly affordable. Great store! read more

This is an undersized Wegmans that fails in many areas and excels in few. Let's start with the negatives then get to the positives: Negatives: Hot food is overpriced and it is dry. You can easily get much better quality Chinese food at Hunan Manor for a lower price. Produce tends to have a lot of gaps in it as in sold out items. The quality of the leafy greens, especially ethnic ones, seems to be lower than other grocery stores such as Weis and Giant. Prices are higher as well. The grocery items tend to be fairly limited. Parking is a nightmare on most days. Prices across the board are substantially higher except on the few items that they strive to compete on. Now to the pros: Service tends to be very good. Meats, though very overpriced to the competition, tend to be very good quality. Ready to cook meals, though frequently more expensive than cooked meals in restaurants, tend to be good quality. Better deals are easy to find as well as better parking spots at the competition. This store on a Saturday is not for the feint of heart or the value shopper. read more

What can I say other than I LOVE WEGMANS! The store is great for a single woman as they sell meat vacuum sealed in individual portions so I don't have to buy more than I need.. Their produce is always fresh and abundant and their bakery will get me in trouble every time! I also really enjoy the hot food when I'm not in the mood to cook.. The Chinese food is great and the burger bar rivals some of my favorite burger joints.. Their fries aren't my favorite but I will let them pass on that. The reason I have to deduct a star is because they could do a little better with catering orders.. I ordered Pizza for a church function to be picked up at a specific time, when I arrived it wasn't ready... Fine.. Thought that it might be a good time to write a Wegman's review. Only my second time coming here and I think I am not impressed. Had some to go hot food (3 servings cost $31) and that just seems excessive because it was just vegetables. Guess that is the cost of grab and dash. While the store seemed to have a lot a variety, the prices seemed high, so just for some fruit, snacks and some vegetarian options, $120 smackers. Overall, i think I am more partial to the Whole Foods scene. The parking is a feat of engineering madness, most people in SUVs can't make the tight turns and every turn has a STOP painted on the ground, but most people don't read I guess. The parking reminded me of a bumper car arcade, so you take your chances in the tight spaces. All I can say is try to visit on off hours. read more

Don't do the curbside pick up! I tried it today and so many items were supposedly out of stock (ie: shopper didn't really look for them). When I got home, I discovered several items were wrong - like regular Powerade instead of Powerade Zero. It shouldn't be that hard to look at a list and get the right things. This review is for the cheese department only. The good - a very nice selection of cheese. The bad - service. I do believe the employees feel that their cheese and the wrapping of their cheese is their number one priority and their customers are second. Oh cheese, what can I get for you? Oh cheese, you are the cheesiest of cheeses. Oh cheese, allow me to worship you. Cheese cheese cheese. If you're a customer, you'll have to wait in line, because I'm busy wrapping the cheese. Or a roll of the eyes tells the customer, look; I'm busy doing cheesy stuff; I'll get to you when I can. If you're fortunate enough, you may find that one employee that will actually put down their cheese long enough, without an eye roll and allow you to sample the cheese or provide you with expert cheese advice. I don't actually have Wegmans where I live and only get to visit this one when I visit family, but I admit to liking the place a lot [and being excited that they will be in my town soon]. It is, of course, still a grocery store; the prepared food is good but they're never going to be Per Se, the coffee isn't bad, but it's not the most amazing ever. On the other hand... I have yet to get something prepared that wasn't tasty. I bought a twenty pound pannetone from them back in January [discounted way down, I assure you] and made the most amazing bread pudding, and french toast, and breakfast toast and... and there's still slices in my freezer, but that's a thing that happened that I do not regret. I like the sushi, it's good, the cheese counter is huge and enjoyable [I got a rum-raisin cheese ball once, it was amazing], the produce is reliably good and they sell my mother's favorite breed of apples. Their flower arrangements are stunning. It's easy to get lost, though and I do not usually buy groceries there for just that reason. Like Whole Foods or Costco, you can go in looking for tomatoes and come out with 100$ in random groceries without really even trying. read more

Had a wonderful experience. We came to Wegmans with the plan to buy Mochi. We walked in by the hot food section completely clueless where the Mochi was located. So we asked an employee and she helped us right away. She directed us to the Mochi. We also got a few other things and it was so organized in Wegmans. Lots to say about this place. Overall, it's great and I prefer it to the grocery store closer to my house. I am confused by some comments that this is a pricey store. Some of the items can be because they're specialty, but overall, it's pretty good prices. This is not Whole Foods prices for sure. First, getting in and out of the parking lot. Many times, traffic can back up if you enter from McGaw Rd. If you can, just continue down Snowden River and turn right into the lot. That entrance is much less traveled. Second, my one gripe about this store is the layout of especially the produce section. It is seemingly impossible to shop without your cart being in someone's way. It's really frustrating. I should be able to take less than a minute to stand in one place while I bag potatoes or check my shopping list without my cart unavoidably blocking someone from getting another nearby veggie/fruit. Speaking of produce though, the produce section is amazing if you ask me. Lots of options, traditional and organic. Hard-to-find fruits and veggies. Great selection of mushrooms and peppers. Precut and packaged veggie and fruit items. So besides feeling crowded and in people's way at all times if it's halfway busy, you'll LOVE the produce options. Cheese department is awesome! Many times they have tastings. There's an elderly gentleman that hosts the tastings a lot and he is very knowledgeable and personable. You can get just about any cheese cut into a smaller size if you need. Seafood department is also great, if not a bit pricey. Lots of selection on fish. Plenty of live lobster. Fresh oysters (which I haven't tried yet). Lots of preseasoned seafood dishes that are ready to cook (or already cooked). Definitely check it out. Oh, and right nearby is a small freezer or two of frozen fish, that can be better prices than fresh. If you're going to freeze your fish anyway, save a few bucks and get the Wegmans brand bag of fish...several types to choose from. Bakery is great! I love their sourdough and they will slice the loaves for you right there. Just ask instead of trying to slice that yourself at home and just destroying it lol. Lots of yummy cakes and neat looking cookies. There's large organic/gluten free/specialty section full of fancy chips, snacks, meal bars, etc. I haven't explored that much. Oh, and while you're shopping, grab a cup of coffee right across from the bread portion of the bakery. Good stuff! So to summarize, this is a great store! I do a lot of shopping at Costco, but produce just can't be beat from Wegmans. Entering the parking lot can be interesting, but better bet to use the Snowden River entrance. Layout in produce is not so great, but the produce selection helps make up for that. Sign up for the club card and get savings and coupons! read more

There's a reason that Consumer Reports named Wegman's the #1 supermarket in the country not once, but three times, in 2009, 2012, and 2014. Wegman's is my favorite grocery store. Their produce selection is huge and fresh--it keeps in the fridge for a week or so, definitely longer than any other similarly-priced grocery store in the area. They also have an excellent cheese counter with great variety. Ask for samples! The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Furthermore, the store is extremely clean and well-organized. They have a club card, and it's great for discounts and sales. You get a free reusable grocery bag when you sign up for the club card. read more

Wegman's curbside pick up. I slapped together a decent sized order (with some specificity) and I get the BEST representative for the task. A literal aisle angel named NATHAN! My guy pulled out all the stops!! Let's go! Assorted cookies? No worries fam. Nathan is on it. Fall themes, footballs and pumpkins! Do you need sticky buns? Nathan is an expert. Looking for diced onions and green peppers for a chili? Nathan has already geolocated and locked on to the freshest produce. Wegmans is my favorite supermarket! Everything is fresh and there is so much variety in cuisine! Entire sections devoted to Italian cuisine and others. Skin care is also on point. Love their aromatic soaps as well! We always buy items with the "family pack" stamp. They are more in bulk and absolutely delicious. I constantly buy the marinated chicken in individuals packs, their bulk sushi, and Italian treats! Excellent prices and always fresh. Staff is always happy and helpful. The market is immaculate. Wow, this place is ginormous. I love Wegmans because they have expanded their special sections for those with special dietary needs -- vegans, vegetarians, gluten-free and it is always clean and doesn't have that stinky dead fish odor smack you in the face as you walk through the door. This one is two stories with parking on upper and lower levels. The upper level of the building over looks the lower prepared food and grocery area and is dedicated to seating. The lower level has all the shopping and prepared foods. And what a selection. We were there for some coffee and a bit to eat. They have a nice coffee bar with hot, iced and blended beverages. The bakery is expansive with unique selections. The prepared foods offer a great selection to include GF, vegan and vegetarian items. Everything is well marked. The staff were all very friendly and seem to enjoy their work. That always makes a place more enjoyable to visit when the staff is pleasant. read more

Everything about Wegmans and this location is AMAZING! So happy that I don't have to drive far to shop here and love how fresh all of their products are. They sell specialty products that other major grocery chains don't carry. The prices are more expensive, similar to Whole Foods. What I love about this place: -Extremely spacious interior and two-level parking garage -Huge food court that includes a coffee bar, burger bar, sushi bar, multiple food stations that offer all variety of food (mexican, american, indian, asian, etc) -Spacious 2nd level that is entirely used as a self seating dining area and separate kids play area. This is such a great addition to the frankly overwhelming number of supermarkets in Columbia. With plenty of parking (two levels!) you can always get in and out really easily. Which is good, because I go a lot. If you park on the second level the first thing you'll notice is the iconic wegmans tower. Heading inside you can't miss the mass of tables on the second floor overlooking the store. People will almost always be hanging out eating food from the prepared food section. They now also have a burger barn - which has veggie burgers, lobster rolls and crab cakes, so it should keep everyone happy. The rest of the store has a great selection of name brand products, and some really high quality store brand. Fruits and veggies are pretty good, with the occasional surprise item you won't see at most stores. But, my favorite part is the seafood section. Its miles beyond any of the other area supermarkets. While it's not quite as fresh as a certain local seafood market, they offer the occasional really good deal. To boot - it's the best place in town I've found to get fresh lobster, that they will cook for you while you wait (15-20 minutes). read more

I dont like crowds around the hot bar so i try to get there as they are opening :) sneaking up on the hot soup bar early is one of my daily highlights when im in the area. Great gluten free selection. They recently added signs saying all their sushi is made with no gluten-containing ingredients. While the preparation area is not guaranteed to be safe, since all their sushi is GF there is a low chance of contamination. I just had sushi for the first time since my Celiac diagnosis and have had no reaction. So happy to have found sushi I can eat! Their GF grocery section is solid. The rest of the store runs too expensive for my weekly shopping, but I go there to get specific GF items and often buy them in bulk. I buy their Wegmans brand Wholesome granola bars by the box. read more

Usually I love Wegmans however today I was totally disappointed. All I wanted was two staple items from their hot bar, their wings and crab mac. They didn't have either available. Wegmans is a nice chain I hope they don't let this location go to crap. Their cakes are the best out of all the grocery stores in the area. But their ready to eat meals really needs some work. One night after work, while picking up a cake for coworker's birthday, I picked up couple "Ready to Eat" meals. I got the Singapore noodles with chicken and shrimp, chicken quesadillas and steak, cheese and onion calzones. The Singapore noodles were absolutely horrible, the worst I've ever tasted. Chicken quesadillas were OK but I can make much better, therefore will never get again. The calzones were OK too and they didn't have enough filling. One of the best Wegman's I've been to (my favorite Wegman's is located in Penfield, New York). This Wegman's wins on various measures--store layout (gems abound in every corner for foodies ) from a pastries, to Indian food, to seafood, to sushi, to pizza--you get the picture. Many of the items are nicely packaged (aesthetic appeal very important to me). Lots of cozy seating, fireplace, photo ops--great for families and casual date nights. I ordered a full sheet of cake for my son's birthday. Not only did it exceed my expectation aesthetically, it was the best tasting cake I have ever had. I gasped when I opened the box bc it came out 100000000 x better than I expected. I ordered half vanilla/ half chocolate with strawberry jam filling and whip cream frosting. O...M....G......!!!!!!! The super moist vanilla cake combined with the slightly sweet/tart strawberry jam filling and not overly sweet creamy whip cream frosting was to die for!!! This is hands down the best place to shop for food in the greater-Columbia area. The service is excellent and the value is certainly there. I love, love, love their sushi! I have heard people complain that it is too expensive, but we have found that the monetary difference in our food shopping budget to be negligible. It can get a bit crowded at time and the people who shop their a little to stuffy (it is after all, Columbia), but I just smile and enjoy the experience of being out.
