Take all my money, Wayward Baking! Went here for the first time Sunday morning. The pastries and breads are gorgeous, fresh, and the smells are out of this world amazing. I got a loaf of sourdough, 9$. Delish, crusty exterior, soft and airy on the inside. Pricy? Yes. Chocolate croissant, I believe it's 5$. Such a fabulous croissant, you can tell it is artfully crafted with many layers. Loved the touch of salt on the exterior. One tiny complaint, not enough chocolate. Smore's cruffin, I think 6$? So good, basically a croissant in muffin shape, with a smore topping and some sort of chocolate pudding/whip cream in the center. Really really good. I will be back! read more

All I can say is wow. We're visiting from Davis and decided to try the pizza Monday after driving by. The pizza was delicious...perfect crunchy/chewy crust topped with really fresh ingredients. Amazing bakery!! Soft opening was last weekend. We were so excited! So many lovely people came out to share the excitement! I am consistently amazed by this place. It rivals the best bakeries in LA and San Francisco yet somehow magically exists in the hidden little gem of Los Osos and for that I'm endlessly grateful. A friend suggested Wayward, and it well worth the drive from SLO. Fantastic tomato toast, delicious scones, and a fantastic baked treat (I can't event remember the name, but it was moist and the perfect mix of sweet and salty). Amazing pastries, quiches, and pizzas (on Mondays only, must preorder and pick up from 4:30pm-7:30pm). I am a big croissant fan and Wayward Baking's croissants knock it out of the park every time. All of the staff are always so nice and pleasant to all of the customers. Great place to bring your well-behaved dog since they have a fair amount of outside seating that is almost always available. If you're not a fan of waiting in lines try to get there early. There's often a line around the corner by 8am on Sat & Sundays. We only wish it were open 7 days a week! read more

I've heard good things about this place and was excited to try it. I was warned that they have beautiful creations but they are a little pricey. Let it be known, I would not be writing this review if I was irritated for the prices being high. I walked in and was the only one in the shop early in the morning. Feeling pressured to order quickly, even though I told her it was my first time in, I looked at the items displayed and determined from the menu/pricing board overhead that I'd get a (1) Pane Siciliano sourdough bread, (2) a ~4 inch creation labeled "lemon tart" and (3) another the same size labeled "chocolate salted caramel tart." Based on the printed menu, a small tart should be $5. She told me the total was $32 and some change; each item was $10. I politely told her I was confused as the listed price of a small "seasonal" tart was $5 and the large were $12. I asked if the ~4inch tarts were considered large and she said, no; but that the "menu changes seasonally." Yes, but shouldn't the "seasonal" tart price listed be the guideline for the price of a tart? She didn't answer my question, but instead made a different point: "the tart price listed on the menu is referring to other pastries." She pointed to a croissant, and I confirmed she was pointing at a croissant and stated that the croissant item was listed on the menu. So what item is the small tart for $5 referring to? Again, she said their menu changes seasonally. Adding "seasonal tart" to the menu would lead one to believe that the price of a tart, regardless of the season, is $5. Not to mention, lemons and chocolate are not seasonal items. As a friendly tip, the posted signage should be updated or the individual "specialty" items should have their prices listed on them to avoid confusion. You cannot bait and switch, and certainly cannot charge whatever you want. The cherry on top, is that the bottom of the sourdough loaf was completely burned. Totally black on the bottom and sides; they shouldn't have sold that batch. I could have gone to Ralph's and purchased a La Brea Bakery loaf for a reasonable price and consistent quality. read more

They are magicians and it boggles my mind that we are fortunate enough to have this kind of artisanal quality outside of a big city. They are so kind and clearly love their craft. Worth every penny. Hello! I mistakingly walked into your bakery last night having no idea what I was walking into, and still don't completely understand. I am not a foodie by any means and am 9 out of 10 times disappointed with pastries. Last night wow! With zero expectations (because I just wanted something sweet after dinner and you were open) you absolutely blew my mind. I equate it to when I lived in Europe (specifically Germany) and was constantly tricked by their pastries, that were beautiful, and you expected that they would taste that way, but when you tasted them it was like eating cardboard....and then traveling a few miles, taking one step into France and trying a pastries that looks just as Beautiful except it rushes you with flavor.... That was last night. I had the expectations of a "German bakery" or most other bakeries in the US and I was hit with mind blowing flavor. I tried the cookie, because I figured, how could you go wrong (some do, but you didn't!) And the steamed lime deliciousness! Wow! The steamed lime pastry was probably the best dessert I have ever had outside of France and probably beats most France French pastries. How you are on a random corner in Los osos I have no idea. My daughters and I have a Monday morning tradition of going to a cafe or bakery for a sweet treat to start the week off right, before heading to school. Over the past 6 years, we've decided that Ascendo and Scout are the best in SLO, and Top Dog & French Bakery are the best in Morro Bay. Wayward puts them all to shame. Biting into a fresh, warm, gooey-in-the-middle and *perfectly* flakey-on-the-outside Almond Croissant was a sublime experience I will remember for years. The Lemon Meringue Cruffin was also delicious, although a little tricky to eat. You need to be prepared: you need a space set up, and you need a plan. Don't even think of launching your attack without a plate under it. We all had a bit of meringue to wash off afterwards, but it was so worth it ... YUM read more

Loved this place! If you crave really amazing bread then this is the place for you. Today was my first visit to Wayward and I had the pleasure of being educated by Tim, the owner about his bread, the starter used and his process. He is clearly very, very passionate about his product and definitely knows how to produce top quality bread and pastries. This man is no ordinary baker, he is a superb pastry chef. Based on his description of the olive bread I bought it, a seedy loaf, two almond croissants and two madeleines. The olive loaf had several types of green and black olives with a lovely, soft yet chewy, texture and a nice crunch to the crust. Absolutely fabulous! The seedy loaf had poppy, sunflower and other seeds, with hearty flavor, soft and luscious on the inside, nice crust on the outside. Both loaves were generously sized. The almond croissants were flaky, and flavorful with a lovely almond paste in each. Thank you Tim for making our vacation to Morro Bay extra special! read more
