Coming soon to a theatre near you..Rated "M" for Mediocre. The restaurant appears to want to be an old school "traditional-formal" venue And although the service was good, the meals were not. When we walked in, they sat us right away despite being 15 minutes early for our reservation. We were immediately greeted by someone who informed us who our server would be, opened the wine and as she did, told us that she is confident we'll be back and to keep in mind that on May 1st their liquor license will be in seasonal effect. As she talked a server with a bread basket announced bread selections, placing them down with beautiful silver tongs. The bread was stale! We laughed about it at the time, it was pretty funny considering all the pageantry of it to serve stale bread. A harbinger of things to come, and we soon learned that the joke was on us. Thankfully, we brought a really nice bottle of wine. here is the breakdown of the food: Lollipop lamb chops - good quality meat, cooked to order, extremely bland. Zero seasoning. As in, not one grain of salt or pepper was placed in it. IT was on top of a few arugula leaves and canned olives. Two of the three tasted like FISH. Yuck. My bf theorized the grill was used to cook fish right before the lamb chops. He had the Bacon app and was disappointed. It was a few thin slices of bacon with obviously canned mandarin oranges. Yuck. He had one of my lamb chops and was shaking his head in disbelief (he is a professional chef of 25 years and restaurant owner so he understands with exactingness 100% of a kitchen's operations). Between courses, we were brought a small plate of lemon sherbert and another mandarin orange (canned). It looked completely unappetizing so we laughed and left it. Mistake. This delayed our entrees and when this became obvious, I flagged someone down and explained we weren't eating that and to take it and bring our entrees. The time we waited for our food was pretty long. Tables that came after us got served before us. I think this is because our server had wrongly profiled us as lazy diners (we originally asked for another minute with the menu before placing our orders that was our death knell). I had linguini/clams. it was fine and the clams were fresh. The pasta was cooked well. Again, zero seasoning - no garlic, no parsley, no cheese, no pepper, no salt, no white wine taste, nothing. It was bland but it was good, but certainly nothing memorable. He had the pork with andouille sausage and clams which came in a canned tomato sauce that blanketed the dish, rendering any taste of the clams or sausage indistinguishable. He ate a few bites and left the rest. We discussed it all with our server, who tried to make it right by offering him something else but at this point, we were done mentally and just wanted out of there. He thanked her but told her was not necessary and we asked for the bill. the food wasn't bad because the ingredients were of good quality, but the preparation was lackluster at best. Worst. Meal. Ever. Drinks were lousy as well. My margarita was obviously from a mix, and my wife's red wine tasted like hot tea, as the bottle was clearly kept in the sun. A very accommodating place, but yeesh, they desperately need a food upgrade. I wish I sat outside and brought my own food, or ordered a pizza. Anything would have been better. I saw an infant eating some crackers and baby jar food and was extremely jealous. Well...Apparently I am writing the first Yelp review. I was hoping to come with a 5 star review but that will have to wait for another night. The patio is seat yourself and wait for the next table which was not an issue tonight although I can see it being a hassle during the summer. The patio bar looks great, and the view from the deck overlooking the Manasquan River is beautiful and a major upgrade from the porch of the UL. I was surprised by the menu as there were not a lot of nosh type appetizers and there were only a handful of entrees although they looked good. The menu was not kid friendly at all, although there was good assortment of beers on tap. The waitress took our drink order quickly, unfortunately it took a very long time for it to get to the table. The bacon appetizer was average at best. It surprisingly lacked flavor which is hard to do with bacon. For the entrees, I had the linguine with white clam sauce which had great flavor although portion size was on the smaller side. My wife's wedge salad came out ay the same time but without the grilled shrimp. They took her dish back to the kitchen and it came back close to 10 minutes later. To put it in perspective I was almost finished with my pasta dish. My second beer took a while to get as well which I couldn't figure out why as it was not even close to being a full house. Our waitress was apologetic throughout our stay as she was clearly frustrated with the bar and kitchen. The couple behind us were having similar issues as we were commiserating with each other. With all that being said, I realize it was their fourth night being open and there are always issues when opening a new restaurant. I went here last night with a friend for dinner. Outdoor space is gorgeous. We were impressed upon arrival. But, unfortunately, The raves stop there. The food is at the same level as a poolside bar. We were expecting an upscale menu due to the renovation and its location wedged in between Shipwreck Grill and River House. First, the service. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. However, the bar made me a half full cocktail, which our waiter complained to the bartender about and she made a comment about how I received the "serving size". Yet my friend ordered a cocktail and it was full to the brim. We had no plates (bread),napkins or silverware until after our meal was served. And we had to ASK for those items. On that note, the napkins,silverware and condiments come out in a caddy....see my poolside bar reference above. Second, the food. I was looking forward to the food as I read an article in the Asbury Park Press with the chef touting "fresh fish and game" with selections like striped bass with saffron basil broth and coffee seared venison loin. None of those selections are at this restaurant. Not even close. Neither the indoor or outdoor menus features entrees on that level. The outdoor menu is limited to wraps, sandwiches and salads. Nothing creative here. We are talking grilled cheese, chicken Caesar wrap, burger. The only "fresh fish" offering is a beer battered grouper sandwich and tuna tartare. No shrimp cocktail. No raw bar selections. No sautéed fish. Yet, I am eating at the Jersey Shore on the Manasquan River. Makes no sense. I ordered the Hoffman Burger, which had short rib on top of the burger....most creative item on the menu. I thought I would give it a go. It was just o.k. No taste. Burger was dry. Meanwhile, its neighbor, The River House is serving sushi and pastas in a similar outdoor setting. Shipwreck Grill is on a whole other level with fresh fish and steak. I had a better meal at Sand Bar in years past. I cannot determine the mission of this place. It does not seem to know its identity yet. It's beautifully decorated and deserving of an upscale menu, yet the simple menu is not even on par with local pubs. Get your act together. The beauty of the outdoor bar will not help you survive October through April....and locals like myself are already done and saving our next night out for one of the aforementioned restaurants. I was prewarned by others before I visited....I should have heeded their advice. Go for a cocktail. Go somewhere else for dinner. read more

We were told we could not open the umbrella at our table, so we tried to sit in the 98 degree sun baking on the 4 of us. My son started to get a little sick from the sun. So we asked to sit inside as there was no tables in the shade. Our server Noah was great, and helped us to move inside. However inside was hot, humid, dark, and not very inviting. So I gave Noah a great tip and asked for the check. Before we left I asked a lady that I guess was a manager where the bathroom was. He said in a smartass tone if you think it's hot outside wait to you go to that bathroom. Mind you I have 2 children with and she still talked like this to me. Then when we were leaving she seen my family coming, but I guess she didn't see i could see her. She made a hand gesture as to suggest here they come, and put her hand on her forehead making fun of my child because he was hot. She seemed to be under the influence of something. But, I have never seen someone make fun of a child because he was hot. Her actions we're totally disgusting. Nice renovation, I ate inside for the first time with the family. I had the Tuna Tartar which was ok for an app. I then had the Lobster and Shrimp roll which was pricey at $24 but very good. My wife had the Salmon and that was also good. Deserts were below average. Atmosphere is nice, the outside looked like a great place to watch the games and have some beer and apps, I'll go back but will likely eat outside. read more

Just leaving waypoint. We really like this place after the summer ends especially. Had the sushi. Really great. One of the bartenders was a woman who was really great. Very busy but very nice. There was one bartender however, a larger man with sunglasses he was very angry slamming empty bottles into the garbage and abrupt, not at all someone you could warm up to. Note to management: speak to your staff about perception and hospitality. Kindness goes a long way. Update June 3 2019 Food was good. Bartender very nice. Came for late lunch on a Monday. I have never written a negative review about a place before today, as I know people have bad days, etc., but the treatment that my family and I received from an individual portraying himself as "the owner" has compelled me to write this review, especially as the negative and hostile treatment we received happened in front of young children. I can only assume it was more likely the "manager", but this individual advised us that he was "the owner". On June 23, we arrived as a party of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) and immediately saw relatives there, who were another party of 4 (same 2 and 2). We were sat with a table of 2 adults in between the two table of 4's. The kind couple said they would just swap to the other side at another empty table of 2 so that we could all sit together. We thanked them but said we would wait to see if we could move our table of four over, but they insisted it would be easier and moved to the empty table of two. We then asked a bus boy if it was possible to move our empty table of four over to our relatives and they said they would ask. Shortly after, a male, who advised us that he was "the owner" arrived. The initial rude and angry words out of "the owner's" mouth, before even saying hello to us, were "Why did you tell my guests to move tables?". I was quite taken aback as a typical managerial response would be, "Hello...how can I help?....What seems to be the issue?", but he was instead, loud, rude and Immediately accusatory of what we had "allegedly" done. (which was nothing at this point aside from waiting to ask if we could move our table over.) We advised "the owner" that we had absolutely not asked anyone to switch tables on our behalf and that they had offered and moved on their own accord. We asked "the owner" if it was possible to slide the empty table of four over to our relatives so we could sit together. Again, unexpected, rude, and angry, "the owner's" response was, "No, that's not how it's done, this is MY restaurant, and I can do what I want. Ask the hostess and you will sit where we tell you." Again, had he asked any questions before assuming what we had done, he would have known we already had the table from the hostess and were just seeing if it was possible to slide that SAME table over. He continually cut us off when we were trying to nicely explain to him what happened and he rudely responded to us that he could do what he wanted and he would absolutely not move the table over. He clearly did not care to hear what we had to say. That would have been fine with us, if he nicely explained that to us, but the immediate interaction and first words out of his mouth were hostile and angry. Keep in mind, this entire hostile interaction was witnessed by a restaurant full of people, including our children, and my niece and nephew (all between the ages of 6 and 8). At that point, his next rude response was his last response, where he loudly advised us, "We could leave if we didn't like it". So we took him up on his offer, and left, as there are certainly many other deserving businesses nearby. We preferred to give the money to an establishment that appreciates all of its "guests". To be fair, if sliding the EXACT same table of four that we were assigned to sit at over to our relatives' table (one table away) was not feasible, then a kinder, nicer apology for why they couldn't do it should have happened, Especially from someone portraying himself as "the owner". How you treat someone is a reflection of the type of establishment being run and this is not a place that I will recommend or ever visit again. To treat people that way is terrible, to do it in front of children is downright awful. There are so many places struggling now for business, who are kind and respectful and are so deserving of business. Spend your money elsewhere. Spend your money at a small family owned business. Spend your money where the owners are appreciative of all of their customers. Spend your money where you are treated like a human being. The interaction was so bad that other customers actually apologized to us for his behavior and told us that we should have never been treated that way. Another couple actually shook their heads at him as they watched the encounter. Customer service here is absolutely nonexistent, and to be lacking from "an owner" no less, is even more appalling. He should be ashamed of himself as he is an absolute embarrassment to the respectful restaurant owners and managers out there. He does not know how to speak to people and it's clearly "his way or no way". I have never in my life been treated this way by anyone, especially not from anyone in the customer service industry, and to do it in front of young children was even more appalling. There were 100 nicer ways to talk to us. After reading many other negative reviews on various sites about this restaurant, it seems that the rudeness towards guests is a common practice here. We went at lunch time with a party of eight. We sat indoors due to the patio being wet from a recent rain. We ordered six different appetizers for the table. Fried calamari, Tuscan Buffalo wings and Conch soup were fair at best. Bang, bang shrimp were well seasoned. Clams with chopped sausage were tasty, although the bread was stale. The waitress said they didn't get their daily bread delivery. The fried dumplings were average. Our lunch choices were fish and chips, Caprese chicken, Buffalo chicken wrap, salad with grilled chicken and grilled cheese with pulled pork. Most menu sandwiches are served with home made chips. Desserts were good. Average dessert prices were $8.00. Tartufo was store bought. The cheesecake was fresh. Berry crisps can be shared and were served with ice cream. Good selection of beers and mixed cocktails. Service was slow even though there was only two other tables taken while we were there. We'll try it again on a weekend. Very poor experience overall. Called ahead to see dinner wait times and was told it was about 2.5 hours. I asked what time they close and said that we'd come for drinks later for a birthday instead. We rode our bikes all the way there just to be turned away because they would not allow the 2/4 of us in that were 24, a rule they instituted that day because they were "busy". There were 20 + empty tables when we got there and the bouncer was rude. Not to mention when I called there was no mention of the temporary rule. I will not be giving them my business any longer. Was a guest of party of 18 this past week... 12 adults 6 young adults kids and they put is in the wine room.. which is a separate room front of the restaurant. Place has main dining room as well that overlooks the deck and Marina and of course the outside bar and deck that overlooks the Marina as well. Very nice modern layout very busy and I was curious to see how they would handle a party this size. Was a present menu with Salad choice of 5 Appetizers, choice of 5 entrees and choice of 3 deserts... Rebecca was our server and she was outstanding all night considering who she was dealing with. Started off with cocktails no bottles and their house wines were not only nicely priced $7.00 per glass but good as well... Salads presented with house Balsamic with optional Ranch or Blue Cheese dressings as well.. Salads were cold, plentiful and fresh very tasty. Appetizers... These were INDIVIDUAL ORDER and they were more for like 2 / 3 persons in some cases.. Fried Calamari was fresh crisp not fishy and dipping sauce adequate. Fresh Lump Crab Meat Cocktail was seriously off the planet good... A little extra horseradish was needed which they brought for the cocktail sauce which put it over the top. The Fresh Bacon fried with some sort of sauce was simply OK... The Carpaccio was fresh and delicious Entrees: Sesame covered and grilled Salmon was very tasty and the sauce was a nice touch. Filet Migon's with homemade mashed potatoes and vegetables were all good nobody figured out who had ordered what temparture of the steaks so you may have ordered Med but got rare etc.. this was the only screw up of the evening. The Stuffed 1 1/2 lb lobster with bread crumb was some confusion as some thought it was steamed but it was baked... very good even if there was a mix up. Pasta with fresh marinara sauce with shellfish was excellent. Chicken breast with sauce and mushrooms was OK... Deserts: Brownie with Ice Cream 5 star Rasberry Sorbet Excellent Apple Pie ala Mode excellent. All and all aside from the screw up with wrong steaks being given to each customer this meal was really outstanding and great for party of our size. I would recommend highly and love to try the rest of menu next time. read more

Food was absolutely excellent atmosphere with candlelight and soft music perfect evening topped off with the ability to bring your own favorite beer or wine. We often visited here in the past. For our anniversary this year,,we wanted to lunch outside on the patio. I am gluten free and the menu was actually interesting. That's where it ends. The food was terrible! My husband's onion rings were so greasy ithcoil dripped down when he held one up. The waiter forgot our drink order. I ordered fries instead of the homemade chips. Got chips anyhow. The crab, lobster, and shrimp wrap only tasted of dill, and more dill. Super slow service, no one came to check if our meal was ok. Plus, valet parking! Really? For a lunch menu? The boys are out for evening. Wives are on in Lancaster, PA. We had Devon as our waitress of 8 people. Excellent service. The 8oz.steak melted in your mouth. Drinks were delivered on time. Ordered wings with Buffalo sauce and supposedly habenero and mango sauce. Awful. Complained to Devon and Manger who stopped over to reassure us food was on the way. Disappointed. Overall, food was excellent, our server was great, but 45 minutes to wait for entree was unacceptable. read more

It started at as a lovely evening. I was with my family; met old friends at the outside bar first- all good. Then we went inside to eat to dinner. Apps were fine. Entrees were at best bad to moderate. Told our lovely waitress that at least two of the dinners were very unsatisfactory. The bill came; no one came to our table to discuss our issue. Nothing was adjusted. We were charged the full amount. I went to the manager who claimed that while the waitress alerted her to the fact that we are not happy, that they looked at the leftovers and WEIGHTED how much was leftover and decided NOT to adjust the bill. After discussing the need to eat crap - no matter how bad - versus starving- the manager agreed to take off $42 off of a $400 bill. We still tipped the lovely waitress $70. Upon leaving, I was accosted by the "owner", a small man, who yelled at me. He, at first, accused me of undertipping the waitress - which was NOT the case. Then, after being told that we did not stiff the waitress, he then claimed that he was annoyed that I told other customers that the food was lacking. Amazing that he claimed "it is just food" WTF. This is a restaurant - What the hell is this about - IT IS ABOUT FOOD. By the way, my daughter asked for no cheese on her food (she made a point about it), it was still served with cheese. Do not go there. Small owner has issues and tries to bully a woman. Great new renovated resteraunt in Brielle. We arrived around 5:30 on a Sunday and were seated within 20 minutes. It was busy with a much longer wait when we left. My wife and daughter had the steamed lobster dinner. A little pricey at $39 but includes salad, potatoes and vegetable. Lobsters were cooked perfectly and seemed larger than the 1.5 pounds listed. The linguini and clams in white sauce was outstanding: fresh clams and perfect balance of garlic and clam juice. My other daughter had the roast clam appetizer which was very good. Great atmosphere, service was very good, nice bar on a large deck overlooking the marina and a guitar player. We'll be back. read more

Visiting from California my family wanted to treat us to a dinner on the water. Expectations were high until we met George. He would not seat our group of 8 near the water despite open tables. Our group was "too big." We offered to split into 2 tables of 4. "No." It was either the parking lot table or inside dining. We were seated at a table with the afternoon sun shining in 3 of our faces. Our waitress went to George to get permission to move us. Permission was denied even though only one other table in the entire room was occupied. Our waitress, Patricia, was very gracious and tried to mitigate the situation. After dinner George walked by and asked "How was everything ". My wife said that she was disappointed and wished to speak with him. After about 45 seconds of my wife explaining how his attitude was not customer friendly he turned away and walked out closing the door behind him. My opinion is that customer service is not in George's DNA and has no business being the face of Waypoint 622. His rude behavior won't be enticing us to return Waypoint 622 on out next visit. The service was excellent. The food and drinks were acceptable. The "manager" was a disgrace. read more

Ok so again I tried this place. Apparently I give it one try a year. And it still is pretty bad. Went with my mother and nephew. Nephew got the kids pizza. It was made on thick bread. So like a piece of baguette or Italian bread cut and covered w sauce and cheese. Kids are picky!! You gotta tell ppl that's what it is in the description. Come on! Mom got the lobster and (shrimp or crab, I can't remember) she said it was good. I got fish tacos. Disgusting. So over cooked it was completely dry and hard. No seasoning on anything. I didn't even eat it. I ordered an iced tea and got a giant glass of Red Bull. Mom ordered iced tea and got water. Server took them back and brings over 2 more iced teas. Both were water. She says the iced tea must be out, sorry. So we drink water. Really no biggie, but how do you not see that it is clear and not brown tea? Bright spot was dessert, key lime pie was crazy good. read more

A friend and I went to Waypoint last night to celebrate my birthday. We were seated fairly quickly which is about the most positive thing I can say about the evening. The waitress was extremely slow. We had to ask 3 times for bread. It took an hour and a half to get our dinner and it was nearly inedible. My friend ordered broiled shrimp and scallops that was supposed to included rice and vegetables. The shrimp and scallops looked boiled, not broiled and there was no rice. When we asked where the rice was the waitress only commented "oh, it's not there?" and never proceeded to bring out the rice. I ordered lobster tail and scallops over linguini. First off, I did not receive a lobster tail. On my plate we're two very small, dry tail-like items that may have actually been langostino's. Whatever they were, it was difficult to remove the small amount of meat. There were 2 scallops. The pasta was not linguini but a larger noodle that was so under cooked that I could not eat it. This used to be one of my favorite places to dine. Maybe they need a new chef or a new manager, but I will not be returning to this establishment for an overpriced, inedible meal.
