Let me start by saying I've never had a bad experience at Moonstruck before, but as I sit here violently sick and sweating like the scene from Bridesmaids, I had to knock back some stars. My short rib ragu was actually delicious. Unfortunately, my wife saved me half her chicken dish and the piece I ate turned out to still be raw. I stopped eating once I noticed, but the damage was already done. Also, quick PSA on the dirty martini: it's shaken with blue cheese and comes out looking more like blue cheese dressing than a martini. My friend and I were in town for an event and looking for a place to grab an early dinner beforehand when I came across Moonstruck. The restaurant was located in a multi-floor home on Wesley Lake, just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of Cookman Avenue. The first floor was more of a bar and lounge, and they had a live jazz band on the evening we visited. We checked in with the hostess and were escorted up to the second floor dining room, which was a charming spot that was breezy and comfortable, yet refined. The floor also had its own bar. Our server was on top of things, but was also clearly newer to the place. Regardless, once we got settled, she took our drink orders, which had taken us some time to decide on since the menu was creative and vast. I went with A Sidecar Named Desire, which included Courvoisier VSOP, Cointreau, Chinola passionfruit liqueur, and fresh lemon juice. I adore passion fruit and had always liked sidecars as well, so I figured it was worth a try, and I loved it! It had a good balance of tart sweetness and smokiness. My friend similarly enjoyed her spicy margarita, and we both imbibed while picking on some bread and herb butter. For our meal, we decided to start by sharing the Greek Salad, which was a massive bowl of romaine topped with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, red onions, and Kalamata olives. We left off the feta cheese, but enjoyed the seasoned dressing made of red wine vinegar, honey, salt, oregano, and olive oil. It was a fresh and flavorful mix of vegetables that was a pleasure to eat. The entree options were endless and offered something for everyone. I wound up going with the Chilean Sea Bass, which was served over sweet onions and potatoes in a tomato herb reduction. The fish was tender and perfectly cooked. It was a light and tasty dish that seemed perfect for the Spring season. After our meals we were a bit too full for dessert, but we decided to get a second round of drinks, mainly because I was dying to try their Pistachio Espresso-Tini. Wow, was that drink delicious! It blended Ketel One Vodka, Mozart White Chocolate Liqueur, natural pistachio flavor, and fresh espresso. The coffee notes were not super prevalent, but the creaminess, nuttiness was the real highlight. It was a decadent way to end a delicious meal. After we settled the bill and headed downstairs, I noticed several bowls of after-dinner mints, which were a nice touch. We chose Moonstruck because we met many moons ago, on this date, in Asbury Park. We had a 515 reservation and we arrived on time. We were seated at a back corner table~ I was facing the elevator, with the bar to my left and a window overlooking the parking lot to my right. It honestly felt like the least desirable table in the Restaurant. Normally, we would've asked to move, but since it was a special evening, we decided to let it go and focus on enjoying our time together. The Restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived and still empty when we left at 6:30, so it was disappointing knowing other tables were available that may have offered a nicer atmosphere where we could've got a better feel for the vibe. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, and our cocktails were very good. We started with the shrimp cocktail~ four medium sized shrimp served with cocktail sauce that was quite bland, lacking, horseradish or notable seasoning, along with a dry lemon wedge. My husband ordered the filet and lobster tail special. He requested the filet, rare, and it was prepared correctly. He was satisfied with his meal. I ordered the chicken Milanese. Unfortunately, it was very dry.~ a dry chicken cutlet topped with dry arugula, served with chopped tomatoes on the side and a scoop of mashed potatoes, again the lemon wedge was dry. Overall, my entrée was very disappointing. We chose not to order dessert or coffee. Although we certainly did not expect any fanfare for our anniversary, I had noted in our reservation profile that we were celebrating a special occasion. It would have been nice to have that acknowledged in some small way.~ even a simple " Happy Anniversary " would've made the evening feel more personal. Given the occasion, the empty dining room, the table placement, and the underwhelming food, the evening did not feel special. My husband and I were visiting Asbury Park for the week and decided to check out Moonstruck for dinner (after passing by it many times during previous trips). It's such a cute place, and the views of Wesley Lake are beautiful. We were lucky enough to sit outside on a beautiful night and had a delicious dinner. We shared a Moroccan-spiced shrimp appetizer special, and then I had another shrimp special as my main (crab-stuffed), and my husband had the filet mignon. My wife brought me here for my birthday weekend, having seen it be well reviewed and well-regarded by locals, and it didn't disappoint. Being located right along the river in downtown Asbury provides a scenic backdrop should you be so lucky be seated at a window. My birthday was very fortunate having landed on restaurant week in Asbury, of which Moonstruck also participate. As part of restaurant week, we received three-courses for the same cost as entree ordinarily would on its own. I began with a cream of sweet potato soup that was thick, creamy, and delicious. This was followed by an everything crusted Salmon that I very much enjoyed. I find that while a lot of restaurants offer salmon, few prepare it as well as the offering Moonstruck has here, being perfectly cooked and well seasoned with everything seasoning. It was topped off with a pumpkin cheesecake that was just sweet enough to satisfy. This place is really cute and I've been here a few times over the years, but my recent visit here was just okay. Our waiter was nice and the ambience is as nice as I remember, but all the food just felt like it missed the mark a bit. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience at Moonstruck. We went on a Friday night. The waiter took 25 minutes to come over to us to take our drink order. We couldn't even catch his eye beforehand. We were ready to order food but he actually ran off before we could do so. Didn't even look at us. I've never seen anything like it. We were sitting there for an hour before our food came out. There was no apology or anything from anyone. We actually thought about going somewhere else but it was so late at that point that we didn't know where else we would be able to get in. The food itself was pretty good - my husband and I enjoyed our seafood though I thought the shrimp was a bit bland and our sides were nothing special. I know they were busy but it's unacceptable to wait this long to order and get our food. We were starving. I would not recommend unless you perhaps go in the middle of the week. read more

We went to Moonstruck on New Years Eve. They offered Price Fix 5 course dinner for 125 dollars per person. The servers were awesome and very attentive. The first three courses were good. The antipasto was very fresh. The lobster bisque soup was very tasty but it was only a small amount My entree was inedible. I ordered the duck and it was so dry and tasteless. It looked like it was microwaved too long. This is our first time going there under the new ownership and I doubt I will return. read more

Moonstruck is what they mean when they call a place venerable. Hipsters may love the irony of an old standby but the vibe is relaxed and the menu remains solid and consistent. The spicy calamari has always been first rate as is the tenderloin so if you're in the mood to skip the over-hyped foodie scene in Asbury and relax in comfortable surroundings, Moonstruck is still up to the task. Live entertainment in the downstairs lounge was GREAT!! Ambiance was amazing... sophisticated but not stuffy. Staff was knowledgeable, extremely attentive & so friendly. We were there for the 5 course New Year's Eve dinner. The service was great , the ambiance was very nice. we ate on the 3rd floor , very nice. The food: the antipasti was delicious and well appointed. Now for the soup. I have the lobster bisque, it was good but it was such a small portion. the Pear salad was under seasoned and very little salad dressing. The Lobster.crab stuffed shrimp was disappointing . There were "crumbs" of lobster and I couldn't find the crab, which were buried in the breadcrumb stuffing. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. the dessert was good too. We were in Asbury Park on Halloween to pick up a Craig's List find so I went to the trusty Yelp app and Moonstruck was ranked highly. This restaurant was really nice and surprisingly big. The building is beautiful. We were seated upstairs and on the enclosed patio. We had an awesome view. First, tje bread was delicious and comes from the Iron Bound section of Newark. Love Moonstruck! They are back and better than before. Service here is always exceptional. They have daily specials and plenty of options on the menu. There are also a lot of gluten free options, including a gluten free pasta substitution for most of their dishes. I've eaten here a number of times and continue to go back regularly. My favorites are the eggplant fries (which are GF) and the shrimp & scallop risotto. Also, they make an excellent Boulevardier. If you can get a table outside on a nice day, it's lovely to sit on the patio and have a nice view of Ocean Grove and Wesley Lake. Definitely recommend! Tip: They don't take reservations. You can sit on the porch or in the downstairs lounge/bar area for a cocktail while you wait. read more
