My friend and I were in town for an event and looking for a place to grab an early dinner beforehand when I came across Moonstruck. The restaurant was located in a multi-floor home on Wesley Lake, just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of Cookman Avenue. The first floor was more of a bar and lounge, and they had a live jazz band on the evening we visited. We checked in with the hostess and were escorted up to the second floor dining room, which was a charming spot that was breezy and comfortable, yet refined. The floor also had its own bar. Our server was on top of things, but was also clearly newer to the place. Regardless, once we got settled, she took our drink orders, which had taken us some time to decide on since the menu was creative and vast. I went with A Sidecar Named Desire, which included Courvoisier VSOP, Cointreau, Chinola passionfruit liqueur, and fresh lemon juice. I adore passion fruit and had always liked sidecars as well, so I figured it was worth a try, and I loved it! It had a good balance of tart sweetness and smokiness. My friend similarly enjoyed her spicy margarita, and we both imbibed while picking on some bread and herb butter. For our meal, we decided to start by sharing the Greek Salad, which was a massive bowl of romaine topped with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, red onions, and Kalamata olives. We left off the feta cheese, but enjoyed the seasoned dressing made of red wine vinegar, honey, salt, oregano, and olive oil. It was a fresh and flavorful mix of vegetables that was a pleasure to eat. The entree options were endless and offered something for everyone. I wound up going with the Chilean Sea Bass, which was served over sweet onions and potatoes in a tomato herb reduction. The fish was tender and perfectly cooked. It was a light and tasty dish that seemed perfect for the Spring season. After our meals we were a bit too full for dessert, but we decided to get a second round of drinks, mainly because I was dying to try their Pistachio Espresso-Tini. Wow, was that drink delicious! It blended Ketel One Vodka, Mozart White Chocolate Liqueur, natural pistachio flavor, and fresh espresso. The coffee notes were not super prevalent, but the creaminess, nuttiness was the real highlight. It was a decadent way to end a delicious meal. After we settled the bill and headed downstairs, I noticed several bowls of after-dinner mints, which were a nice touch. My husband and I recently had dinner at Moonstruck, and unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've ever had. Our server, Michael, provided by far the worst service we've ever received. He appeared to be under the influence of something, as he spent long periods simply standing around making odd faces while our table and several others waited and waited for him to acknowledge us. We were left wondering if anyone was going to take care of us. When my husband politely asked about our meal, Michael became rude instead of apologetic or helpful. The food itself had good flavor, but it arrived cold, like it was not served right away, which was disappointing. To end the meal, we ordered a cappuccino, but it was so poorly made that it tasted like nothing but warm milk. It was completely undrinkable. What makes this especially disappointing is that I've always loved Moonstruck. It's been one of my favorite restaurants because of its excellent food and outstanding service. If this is the level of service the new owners are willing to accept, I worry about the restaurant's future. I truly hope management addresses these issues because Moonstruck has always been top notch! read more

Let me start by saying I've never had a bad experience at Moonstruck before, but as I sit here violently sick and sweating like the scene from Bridesmaids, I had to knock back some stars. My short rib ragu was actually delicious. Unfortunately, my wife saved me half her chicken dish and the piece I ate turned out to still be raw. I stopped eating once I noticed, but the damage was already done. Also, quick PSA on the dirty martini: it's shaken with blue cheese and comes out looking more like blue cheese dressing than a martini. We came into Moonstruck on a Saturday night and had an overall good experience! For food we got the Pear flatbread, Oysters and Shrimp Cocktail - all were great and no complaints at all! For my main I had the 2Lb Lobster, it was by no means bad and had a decent amount of meat. The only issue with it was that it was slightly overcooked so the meat was a bit more rubbery than I typically prefer. I have to give it to the bartender and our server as I requested the dirtiest martini possible with copious olives and they delivered! Service in general was perfect, I wish I got his name but our server (from Rockland County NY) was great and elevated our experience. After reno and new ownership we had a few excellent meals. Last Friday's meal disappointed: Eggplant fries mushy and overly sweet. Regular side fries not crispy and starchy. Roasted potatoes not eatable - sour and also mushy/starchy. Side vegetables not up to par. Hope it was a one-off. read more

My wife brought me here for my birthday weekend, having seen it be well reviewed and well-regarded by locals, and it didn't disappoint. Being located right along the river in downtown Asbury provides a scenic backdrop should you be so lucky be seated at a window. My birthday was very fortunate having landed on restaurant week in Asbury, of which Moonstruck also participate. As part of restaurant week, we received three-courses for the same cost as entree ordinarily would on its own. I began with a cream of sweet potato soup that was thick, creamy, and delicious. This was followed by an everything crusted Salmon that I very much enjoyed. I find that while a lot of restaurants offer salmon, few prepare it as well as the offering Moonstruck has here, being perfectly cooked and well seasoned with everything seasoning. It was topped off with a pumpkin cheesecake that was just sweet enough to satisfy. My husband and I were visiting Asbury Park for the week and decided to check out Moonstruck for dinner (after passing by it many times during previous trips). It's such a cute place, and the views of Wesley Lake are beautiful. We were lucky enough to sit outside on a beautiful night and had a delicious dinner. We shared a Moroccan-spiced shrimp appetizer special, and then I had another shrimp special as my main (crab-stuffed), and my husband had the filet mignon. This place is really cute and I've been here a few times over the years, but my recent visit here was just okay. Our waiter was nice and the ambience is as nice as I remember, but all the food just felt like it missed the mark a bit. After so many recent disappointing dinners in New Jersey, Moonstruck last night was a revelation. Our friend suggested we join him there, and I was a little hesitant at first, as I found the name of the restaurant a little cheesy, but our experience on every level was wonderful. The restaurant was bursting at the seams on a beautiful warm breezy night, but the lady who served us - Kimberly J. was perhaps the most engaging, authoritative, amusing and informed restaurant professional I have been served by in decades - she made a great dining experience even better. In a hectic environment, she never lost sight of us and our requests once. I am sure that the few other reviewers giving Moonstruck less than four stars have their legitimate reasons, but for us, despite the natural noise from a crowded restaurant, the ambience, service and food was exceptional. I have been highly annoyed by over seasoning and salting of dishes across the tri-state area, but Moonstruck had the balance just right on everything and the natural flavors of all the food were allowed to shine. Deeply disappointing. Ambiance and service were both good though I must say that our server was seemingly overwhelmed. We were a party of six. Only one of the six found their meal to be fine, the other five, not so much. One of the meals was so inedible and off-tasting that we asked to have it taken off the bill, which they did. That member of our party was so disgusted that they refused the offer of a substitute meal. Some meals came with what were clearly frozen mixed vegetables. After-dinner cappuccinos were barely warm and totally lacked any coffee flavor. Someone need to learn how to make them or take them off the menu. We went to Moonstruck on New Years Eve. They offered Price Fix 5 course dinner for 125 dollars per person. The servers were awesome and very attentive. The first three courses were good. The antipasto was very fresh. The lobster bisque soup was very tasty but it was only a small amount My entree was inedible. I ordered the duck and it was so dry and tasteless. We chose Moonstruck because we met many moons ago, on this date, in Asbury Park. We had a 515 reservation and we arrived on time. We were seated at a back corner table~ I was facing the elevator, with the bar to my left and a window overlooking the parking lot to my right. It honestly felt like the least desirable table in the Restaurant. Normally, we would've asked to move, but since it was a special evening, we decided to let it go and focus on enjoying our time together. The Restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived and still empty when we left at 6:30, so it was disappointing knowing other tables were available that may have offered a nicer atmosphere where we could've got a better feel for the vibe. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, and our cocktails were very good. We started with the shrimp cocktail~ four medium sized shrimp served with cocktail sauce that was quite bland, lacking, horseradish or notable seasoning, along with a dry lemon wedge. My husband ordered the filet and lobster tail special. He requested the filet, rare, and it was prepared correctly. He was satisfied with his meal. I ordered the chicken Milanese. Unfortunately, it was very dry.~ a dry chicken cutlet topped with dry arugula, served with chopped tomatoes on the side and a scoop of mashed potatoes, again the lemon wedge was dry. Overall, my entrée was very disappointing. We chose not to order dessert or coffee. Although we certainly did not expect any fanfare for our anniversary, I had noted in our reservation profile that we were celebrating a special occasion. It would have been nice to have that acknowledged in some small way.~ even a simple " Happy Anniversary " would've made the evening feel more personal. Given the occasion, the empty dining room, the table placement, and the underwhelming food, the evening did not feel special. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience at Moonstruck. We went on a Friday night. The waiter took 25 minutes to come over to us to take our drink order. We couldn't even catch his eye beforehand. We were ready to order food but he actually ran off before we could do so. Didn't even look at us. I've never seen anything like it. We were sitting there for an hour before our food came out. There was no apology or anything from anyone. We actually thought about going somewhere else but it was so late at that point that we didn't know where else we would be able to get in. The food itself was pretty good - my husband and I enjoyed our seafood though I thought the shrimp was a bit bland and our sides were nothing special. We were there for the 5 course New Year's Eve dinner. The service was great , the ambiance was very nice. we ate on the 3rd floor , very nice. The food: the antipasti was delicious and well appointed. Now for the soup. I have the lobster bisque, it was good but it was such a small portion. the Pear salad was under seasoned and very little salad dressing. The Lobster.crab stuffed shrimp was disappointing . There were "crumbs" of lobster and I couldn't find the crab, which were buried in the breadcrumb stuffing. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. the dessert was good too.
