Saw a 1 star review saying "one and done" , "dessert was good", "all atmosphere", "just okay" As much as I disagree with that assessment and personally feel that Pascal and Sabine is way better than "just okay"... that review should not equal 1 star. You're only review, you've only been once and decide to go onto a public forum and give 1 star. Anyway off my soapbox. Pascal and Sabine not only has some of the best cocktails and bartenders in Asbury but possibly NJ. I have been countless times with my wife, my kids, large groups you name it. My favorite way to experience Pascal is to sit at the bar get a couple cocktails (The Jackal is a staple), the Madame Smith Burger (my wife gets the Mr Smith) the fries are amazing, and maybe the escargot and just enjoy. This place is a standout. I came with my mom during happy hour and everything from beginning to end was excellent. Lovely hostess, great round bar seating with huge windows for people watching, and a genuinely charming and attentive bartender (Mike). We started with oysters from Newfoundland and cheese off the happy hour menu -- both great. My mom loved her lavender French 75 (a drink special), and my white wine was perfect (the name escapes me at the moment). The garlic soup deserves awards. I first had it two summers ago and still think about it -- I made my mom try it and she immediately understood my rave reviews. For entrées, her burger was cooked perfectly medium-rare, and my fish & chips absolutely hit the spot. Both came with generous portions of house-made fries and an unexpectedly addictive house honey-mustard. We had enough fries for leftovers, and I even asked for extra mustard to take home. Ambiance is great. Comfortable booths for a part of 5-6. The French onion soup was fantastic! Perfectly made and not salty. The chicken pate was good. But better to share as it was so rich for one person. Same with the mushroom onion tart. The burger was good but they didn't make it medium rare. Fries were hand cut and really good. The cow au vin was very good. Needed a bit more sauce. The chocolate pot dessert was not as good as I hoped. The caramel was overpowering for me and I would have preferred a stronger chocolate taste. Pascal & Sabine was beautifully decorated, but incredibly dim. The music was far too loud at the front, but thankfully we were in the back of the restaurant. It was a bit hard to read the menus, and I don't know how people with vision problems would be able to see what they were eating. The food was good, but the portion sizes were small for the amount you're paying. Our server didn't check on us very often so we were waiting with empty glasses a good chunk of the meal. They also took our bread basket without asking if we were done. Dessert was the best part of the night. I have been here a few times in the past and then just tried it again this week. This place is okay and the front entrance is really annoying with 3 sets of doors to get inside. We ended up being seated outside and were asked by other people all night if "this was the front door". The outside seating is set up really cute and on a nice summer night, its the perfect place to be for a glass of wine. They have a small but excellent wine selection. This time I wasnt too hungry so I mostly had wine and oysters. The market were PEI and very fresh & tasty. We recently hosted a small brunch for 30 people. We had a fantastic experience from beginning to end. The coordinator and manager were able to bring our vision to life and answer all of our questions to pick the perfect menu. They took care of all of the arrangements, place cards, menus etc. the day of we had two wonderful servers who took care of all of our guests needs. The food was even better. We love brunch; well..the idea of it. But as of late, we've been somewhat disappointed by certain choices. However, this place got it right. Along with the usual suspects, (Waffles/Burger/Omelet), Pascal & Sabine had other interesting choices. Like the Duck Confit Eggs Benedict and a Skillet Baked Ratatouille. Next time.... Since it was Sunday Bruch, we started with a Double Espresso and a "Salty Meg". Refreshing with a Vanilla Salt, salted rim. I ordered the Quiche because yes, real men DO eat quiche, contrary to what Bruce Feirstein thinks. It was hearty, tasty with a flakey crust and the Potatoes that accompanied reminded me of Thanksgiving. She started with a traditional French Onion Soup. One of the better ones we've had. Usually after the crouton and cheese are gone, it's time to move on. But the broth was so flavorful and just the right amount of onions. Lyonnaise Salad with a Poached Egg and Pork Belly was something I would never think to order, but think again. What a salad ! We ended the meal with a Milk Chocolate Pots du Crème topped with a layer of sea salted caramel. The chocolate was dense, yet creamy, and the caramel layer on was a nice addition. Definitely meant for sharing. This place made a great start to a rainy Sunday in Asbury, and gave us enough steam to take on the many shops the area has to offer. 3.75 stars. Came on a weekend night with a reservation and they were busy. There's different sections of the restaurant with different vibes. Some were home like and another part bar and another date night dinner like. Service was friendly and timely. 1. Pork chop - thick piece of pork chop with good flavor. Was not too salty but the veggies were. Sauce was very good. 2. Escargot - saltier than other ones I've had but filling and filled with herbs and oil which was lovely. Forgot to snap a picture but looks like other pictures on here. 3. Crème brûlée - delicious as usual and standard! First time here and Herbie was our server. They were wonderful, friendly, and attentive! We started with cocktails, The Jackal and the Cucumber Sunshine. The Jackal was perfectly spicy, however I wish I tasted more of the ginger. The Cucumber Sunshine was light and refreshing, not too sweet. We started with the brandade croquettes. Unique, crispy, and flavorful. The sauce that accompanies it is citrusy which pairs well with the fried croquettes. I ordered the New York Strip steak frites. My favorite part were the many sauces/toppings it came with. It comes with steak sauce, ketchup, honey mustard (like no other!!), herbaceous compound butter, and sweet caramelized onions (truly caramelized). I was in heaven. We also ordered the spaghetti and clams and I enjoyed their take on this simple dish. The cabernet was dry and full bodied. The restaurant was busy but not too loud. Came here for my wife's birthday and overall the place is a solid 4 stars. With that said you might be wondering why on Earth I rated this place 5 stars then? That my friends can be explained in one word; service. Our waitress Jenna took our experience at Pascal & Sabine from a pretty good night out to an absolutely sublime evening. I kid you not, she must of been watching a webcam of our table since whenever we needed water, she was there to refill them an absurd amount of times before we even needed to lift a finger to ask. Before buying a bottle of wine to drink for the meal, she allowed us to taste multiple options to ensure we didn't throw away $60 on a bottle we would forget...and trust me, we needed the tastings to find our perfect match. And even though we were so stuffed from our meal and couldn't eat a bite of dessert if we tried, she was thoughtful enough to bring out 3 candles to allow my wife to blow them out and make a wish for her birthday. Outside of the service, the food was pretty good to excellent which included: -French Onion Soup; a very good rendition -Garlic Soup; A MUST TRY! One of the best soups I ever had -Fluke Crudo; the only real "miss" of the night. Too much chili and Mandarin blew out the palate -Steak Frites: Absolutely huge portion split between the two of us with a nicely cooked strip and unreal aioli and au-poive sauce. The host and hostess were welcoming and our server was nice and attentive. The food was also great. I enjoyed the escargot and coq au vin a lot (and I've had both at many other restaurants in the past). My husband got the French onion soup and the Mr. Smith burger. The French onion soup could've had a deeper, richer flavor, but it was decent. He liked the burger with the raclette cheese on it. Wifey and I went here for Sunday Brunch. Not our first time here but it is our first time for brunch. We like to sit at the front bar by the window. P&S is definitely a vibe. We love coming here. Dim lighting, nice music, and makes you feel like you're in a European Bistro. Started with two blood orange mimosas which hit the spot and tasted great. We shared an arugula salad which we probably didn't need because both our meals came with salad greens. My wife ordered the duck confit eggs benedict which she liked, and I ordered Le Petit Dejeuner which was two eggs (I ordered them scrambled) your choice of bacon, ham, or sausage, breakfast potatoes, roasted mushrooms, spinach greens, and sourdough toast. My wife and I agreed that the breakfast potatoes were some of the best we've had. Not sure how they cooked them bit they were delicious. Bacon was perfectly crisp,eggs were very good roasted mushrooms added a nice touch. Service was great at the bar. All in all a great way to spend a warm Sunday summer afternoon. It'Great music, always different, loud enough to be engaging, but not too loud. Good sound system. We usually eat at the bar, but there or at the tables, the service is the best in the area. We're older than the average patrons, but I feel like part of the nice Asbury Park crowd. Everything I've eaten across about 10 meals was outstanding. The salads are not overdressed, interesting and a good size. The pate choices are great (Ive had two of the four choices. I've tried several entrees off the menu and have had several specials. My favorite two regular menu items are the skate wing (pan fried, tender and really good) and the duck. Last night the couple next to us shared a porterhouse, which looked delicious. I had a tilefish special last night, which came over lentils with a slightly acidic dressing- a perfect foil for the perfectly cooked fish. This is fine dining with outstanding hospitality and atmosphere. They make us feel special, which is a fine art. I think the price point is excellent - not inexpensive, but an excellent value. Everyone working there embodies hospitality. I don't usually point out individuals in reviews, but Herbie the bartender is a master at his craft. A true professional and a really nice man. This is my favorite restaurant in the area (tied with The Grand, and for OG, Brando's). Outstanding cocktail and wine choices. My only disappointment is that there isn't enough time to order a second stomach from Amazon - or I'd close the place every night. read more

Decided to give this lovely business a go based on thier stellar reviews and it was just a descibed from others. First off, my Husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we were particular about the ambiance, the food, the bar service and the overall experience we were hoping to have. This place checked all the boxes, not to mention the exclusivity it exuded when we arrived and saw the small scale, half empty dining area. We assumed we would instantly be sat at one of their cozy booths, however, we were turned away and told " reservations only" by the hostess and the gentleman who appeared to be her boss for the evening. Now generally, I would walk out and piviot my plans to go elsewhere. However, I decided to inquire about sitting at the rather empty bar and he informed us that we could sit there and take advantage of the full menu as well. I said sure and and we went over. We ended up meeting the barmaid named Taylor, and she was lovely adn very professional. Tangent*** she had very nice hair! Anyways, Taylor took care of us that evening and we enjoyed our evening at the Horseshoe bar. I had very high quality cocktails and the made top teir drinks. The food was also very elegant and packed with flavor; the oysters and beef tartar screamed 'freshly prepared' so I find that to be a huge deal. I am taking off 1 star due to the initial encounter and their nonchalant manner as we almost turned to leave after being turned away and discouraged to stay. Infact, my husband showed a 8:30pm time slot for reservations and was going to book it but the man countered "thats inaccurate, we are working with 4 servers, not 5 and so we cannot seat you. Very, very disappointing dinner at Pascal & Sabine last night. Food was mostly poor in terms of ingredients and preparation. Salad made with tough greens and salty dressing. Panko dover sole overly breaded and dry. The vegetable, boiled broccoli rabe, was tough and tasteless. However, the Coq au Vin was good. Music loud and pulsing making conversation impossible. Is anyone managing this place? The one exception to an irritating evening was our server. But the quality & preparation & presentation of the food has slipped a great deal- unfortunately, a great deal- steak frite historically was served with shoestring frites/potatoes and fried w duck fat before. they're now huge and floppy, not well-cooked and not very good. the ribeye was less than mediocre- tough, fatty and difficult to cut even with a steak knife- and not tasty to boot. my friend's pork chop huge and better. the profiteroles was not a profiterole nor was it multiple choux balls - it was one rubbery pastry enclosing a huge ball of ice cream with a side of what should have been dark chocolate sauce but was some other sort of "chocolate". Very disappointing. The bar was set high and has fallen on hard times. P&S, get a new meat supplier & ramp up that kitchen- your admirers expect better! read more

We had the cutest date night at Pascal & Sabine last night. We had made reservations for the lounge area because we heard they have a live Jazz duo on Wednesday nights and the music was such a perfect vibe for the decadence of this restaurant. We ordered cocktails and food and everything exceeded our expectations. I will have to save space for dessert next time because if the dessert is anything as good as the mains, we might have a problem. Local and go here for brunch a lot. It's been slacking a bit. Kitchen was a bit of a mess last time. There's an issue here with over salting here (Which not just me has been pointed out in some reviews). Our omelette (much smaller than past servings) was inedible. They gave us free desserts instead (that we didn't need). I'm also still perplexed why the batches are premade and omelettes not made to order (I can't ever modify since I don't eat mushrooms). We didn't get an amuse bouche like we have in past. Latkes have also been over fried and crazy oily a few times. For the prices we pay needs work. We really loved our experience here. Dined in the lounge area on a Saturday night in August. I definitely recommend making a reservation especially in the summer time. Everything from the service to the food to the ambiance was top notch. You can tell that management runs a tight ship and sees to it that diners here are more than satisfied. Big shoutout to the bartenders as our drinks were strong yet balanced. Our server Kevin was welcoming, personable, and did a fantastic job of explaining everything to us. We started with the oysters of the day. I am no oyster expert but these were very good. In fact, if you are new to oysters, this would be a good place to try them. As for our mains, the scallops and fluke were both light and succulent. We rounded out the meal with the creme brulee which did not disappoint. First time here, I got some words. Let me get this out of the way right now. I ordered the Madame Smith Burger and my lord. That burger is generational and breached my top 5. Damn right I just said that. That bacon jam? That lettuce? Whatever else was on that thing? Generational. Moving on. A quick negative. For appetizer I hit up the Brandade Croquettes which were pretty gas. Whatever sauce they made for that (no idea what it was) was absolute heat. Also went well with the little bread they give you for the table, which I very much appreciated. Service time was slow at our table which didn't bother me much, but the waitress took note and decided to give us some of the Pot de Crème as a desert on the house. It was a great closer to the meal. As a local I have been to Pascal dozens of times over the years. This restaurant is one of the best Asbury Park has ever seen and may ever see. Every drink is made perfectly with high end liquor. Every meal is top notch. The staff works hard and takes their jobs seriously. It can get crowded so maybe call ahead for a reservation. This place is a solid 5 stars. I've read some other reviews and honestly don't believe the "complaints". Come give this place a try. My French onion soup was so salty that I couldn't drink the broth, just ate the melted cheese on top. That wasn't particularly good either, but it was better than the broth. The cheese atop French onion soup should be a generous portion and deliciously creamy. Instead it was just a thin coating that was overcooked until it was way too hard. Sadly, the duck cassoulet was also disappointing. The half-breast of duck was overcooked and salty. The best part were the beans and tomato that made up the stew. On the bright side, my dining companion praised his steak and fries, calling the steak with accompanying herbed butter among the best he's ever had. An entree paired with a glass of wine or cocktail, followed by a scrumptious dessert is a perfect way to have a special night out. The outdoor setting allows you to see the sunset behind the city buildings and hear the hubbub of downtown. We visited this restaurant again- we had to wait a little for our table, but we had a nice meal once we were seated. Bread and butter upon waiting- drinks- apps- entrees and dessert. All the staff was so accommodating - especially with our allergies- with a lot of TLC- when bringing the food out to make sure it was not near what we were allergic to, making us feel super comfortable with our dining. We were checked on many times by staff and asked if we needed anything. All the different foods we ordered this time were wonderful again - and our waitress was very attentive.
