This is the first time I've ever been to Shipwreck Grill, which is crazy because I've grown up in this area. I've always heard good things, and I thought the food stood up to the reputation. The restaurant was packed on a Monday night, which was probably a good sign for what led to a delicious meal. I really enjoyed the roasted oysters topped with yummy breadcrumbs. My daughter enjoyed a sushi appetizer and wedge salad with blackened tuna that she claimed was delicious as well. Our other dinner partner enjoyed his halibut. I really loved the show-stopping, gigantic jumbo lump crab meat risotto. It was very filling, but super delicious. The food was rich and, in some ways, basic, but executed perfectly. I added some of the street corn and that really made things even better get this dish. You won't be disappointed. The atmosphere was busy, if not hectic. Our table was in the middle of the room, next to a large family with little kids. One was seven months old and the other was two. That seemed like a bit much for a dinner with these price points. It's not an inexpensive restaurant and certainly not a family-vibe Houlihan's. We had mixed feelings about the atmosphere, but I kind of thought it was cool--a really pretty building with some rustic charm. read more

It's hard to express just how bad the customer service is when it is Gen Z mixed with indifference and poor work ethic. Hostesses (x2 because evidently seating people is a 2 person job - although neither girl could formulate a full sentence). 8:30pm Sunday - "there are only seats at the bar; we've stopped seating outside". Management. If this is true GREAT you have some monotone bland children holding down the fort. If you want business and your staff to work - I'm sad to say they turned down a nice group of 30-50 year olds ON A MONDAY (which is huge for us). Lackluster. Lazy. Underwhelming. Everything is great but the pickle. I tend to eat here about a half dozen to a dozen times a year. Overall, the menu runs from some simpler items like a hamburger to higher end steaks. What stands out is the quality is consistently very good. Everything but the pickles that come with the burger. These lifeless jar dills are blah. I also think they should put more blue cheese dressing on the wedge. If this seems kind of minor and picky, it's because it is. It's all I got that misses the mark. The 8oz filet- perfect. Overall, food was decent but the service was awful. We sat down for 20 minutes before a server came over to our table to take our drink order. The crab cake and clams oreganato appetizers were okay. The shrimp in the shrimp scampi were way overcooked and the linguini needed a lot of salt. They forgot one of the sides but we never saw the waiter again until he dropped off our check. I have been driving past their billboard for as long as I can remember and always wanted to try it. We finally went and I was so disappointed. The food wasn't bad but it was forgettable. Ambiance was nice. The waitress was nice. Lobster bisque came out cold so we asked them to warm it up. This is the best place to go for a good night. The food is outstanding! Whether it's seafood or their other main dishes; you can't go wrong. The ambiance was lively. The only good thing I can say about this restaurant is that our server was good and the buss boys were good looking. We went there for our Dads 80th Birthday and the night was ruined when his Birthday dinner, fresh scallops came out tough and overcooked- you shouldn't need a steak knife to cut scallops. When the manager came out to address it- she admitted they knew the scallops were tough. Why serve them if you received sub par scallops from your vendor?! She pretty much told my father in law what he should order for a replacement meal - which honestly was not what he was looking for. Next I will address my husband's $60* steak, which he ordered Medium Rare. Steak came out Well done with absolutely no pink inside. When he addressed this with the manager she agreed, took it back and says that they will cook him a new steak. He gets his replacement steak and it was flipped once, not even a sear on the outside, and completely raw on the inside. The manager comes back to take back the raw steak and tells us the owner cooked that and he is pissed about the quality of the steaks he got. Whatever! Sending out a completely raw steak to someone that ordered a medium rare steak and got well done is just a dick move- to hear that the owner of the restaurant did that makes it even worse. My husband left hungry. I did not leave hungry, but sadly was sick with food poisoning all night and all of the next day- couldn't even leave the house to go to the beach- which is why we are here on vacation! As far as ambience- we were stuck on a patio with the sun shining in our faces for 1/2 the dinner, and listening to the tranquil roar of the highway or busy road next to us. We've been here now a couple of times, and each time was great! The people in the kitchen know what they're doing! We've had the blackened pork chop and rack of lamb among other things, and they are spectacular! They were cooked exactly as we asked, and delicious. The wines were nice, the place is comfortable, and the desserts were excellent. A special shout out to our waitress, Danielle, first for recommending the pork chop, but mostly because she was smiling and pleasant all night. Well done, Shipwreck. We'll be back! read more

I am sorry to write this review because I've been eating here for many years, but it's over. The hospitality has never been that good here, but other restaurants, especially in Asbury Park, use technology to recognize regulars. I could even put up with nobody caring, but the restaurant is cheaping out on key points (aside from technology). For example, the clams on the half shell are now those tiny farmed ones, the wine by the glass is garbage (they used to have a good selection) and the service, especially at the bar (where we normally eat) is now unacceptable. Curt, grumpy, slovenly and unfriendly people who wouldn't last five minutes at a decent restaurant. Only lazy and incompetent people watch food served to a customer and don't check that the customer has silverware - or an empty water glass - or serve wine that they know is sour or a beer that isn't cold. To be fair, the place is still busy and their closest competitor (La Mondina) is incredibly busy and just as inhospitable - but the food is better. If you don't mind being treated indifferently when you're dropping $200 for two, the food is good, the specials are usually excellent. But we're done. read more

I've been coming here for a long time and always had a great experience. The halibut was my go to but last night it was like a piece of rubber. I sent it back and it came back inedible. Luckily the crab meat cocktail and ceasar salad was good. I filled up on 2 dinner rolls. When they took my plate away I was not asked if everything was ok. Disappointed because this is my meal I look forward to every Labor Day. I hope they improve and this was just an off night. read more

Upon arrival the hostess could have smiled and be more friendly . We had the scallops, the crab cake , the calamari and a couple of the soups for apps. They were delicious. It came med well and had no flavor . No seasoning on it . The steak was Cold and so were the mashed side and asparagus. The plate it was served on was too big for the size portion that was served . This amazing restaurant is worth every penny. Excellent service and amazing food, which is consistently delicious and high-quality. Most recently we started with the crab cakes and calamari, and both were awesome. The crab cake (you only get one, which perhaps is a bit surprising for the price, but worth it for the quality) is FULL of fresh crab, not just breading like so many other crab cakes at restaurants. The calamari were great, a nice balance between the squid and fried outer shell, and not too much sauce (I'd prefer more tentacles and some marinara, but still can't complain, have gotten this appetizer every time I've been there). For an entrée I got the scallops, my favorite food that is so often done poorly, but not here! I've gotten the scallops every time, and every single time they're succulent and flavorful, cooked perfectly. If you're a scallop lover, do yourself a favor and get them here. The other two people at my table got the filet mignon and the pork chop, and both licked their plates clean. I tried the filet and even as someone who doesn't like red meat, I thought it was fantastic and perfectly cooked, very tender. I didn't try the pork chop but it also received rave reviews. I wish we had space for dessert! We all got cocktails, and they were all strong and made perfectly to our specific order. Shipwreck has always been one of my favorite restaurants but last night we went there with our children for Christmas Eve and it was absolutely amazing. We started with some regular menu items like delicious Kumamoto oysters and their tuna tartare, and added the lobster stuffed artichoke bottoms from the special menu. All were fantastic. The lobster bottoms were served with a slightly spicy, roasted pepper chimichurri that I could drink. Dinner was even better. From the halibut special to the rigatoni with short ribs, steak, and the venison special, which was absolutely crazy delicious the sauce was masterful and the venison was cooked perfectly. We ended the night with some cappuccinos and a brilliant French toast skillet creme anglaise creation that should receive a Michelin star I have never had a better meal anywhere and the service was impeccable. I had dinner reservations here last night at the Shipwreck Grill in Brielle NJ - 11/07/2025. It so happened to be the start of Restaurant Week where they also offer a special menu. I was excited to give it a try. So let me share both the good and the bad. The good is, I love the atmosphere here. Always busting at the full bar even at 5:00pm. It also always feels cozy. So, we choose to eat at the bar height table. Now let me share my dinner experience. The most unfortunate experience was our waitress, she came to us with a really bad attitude which took us by surprise and caused our experience there to be unpleasant and uncomfortable. Next, will move onto dinner. The wine by the glass selection on their menu on their website was not available and was told they did not have those wines for quite sometime. Disappointing! I chose the Restaurant Week menu and ordered the Roasted Squash Salad with candied walnuts and mixed greens came out with minced squash hardly roasted and plain walnuts- not candied with only frisee greens. No good at all. The shrimp and calamari Tagliatelle pasta I ordered came out with Bucatini pasta, but was very good. The pumpkin cheesecake was frozen in the middle. Have eaten here many times before and have previously considered it one of the best meals at the shore. Tonight I was very disappointed. The food, though good, was not as exceptional as in the past. Also there was a massive disconnect between the dining room and the kitchen. Though when we sat down they had only 12 tables filled, after we finished our appetizers, it took 45 minutes before our entries appeared. Though there was plenty of help up front, there appeared to be only 3 people in the kitchen and we were told that they had a big table whose order held the entire kitchen and all the other diners up. Considering their prices with tip, it was close to $200 for two of us and we only had one drink and no desserts (didn't want to chance another long wait). The food is quite good and lived up to the hype, but I was surprised that we felt rushed throughout the entire meal. Service kept trying to take our plates numerous times when they were clearly still full of food, and high-end items at that. It's also slightly frustrating having to put in all food items at the same time, which at least avoids the potential lull between appetizers and entrees. It's clear that Shipwreck Grill is trying to get as many people through the door as possible, which is almost understandable since the place is perpetually packed. That's because the food is definitively good. It's all high-quality items cooked well. No more, no less. Simple preparations highlight the freshness of the ingredients. Otherwise I had no issues with the service and felt we were guided well, although we feel that at other places we can more easily enjoy our meal without feeling like we're overstaying our welcome despite an expensive combined tab. On the other hand the location had more ambiance than expected, and even a view of the Manasquan River. It is aiming for a high-end atmosphere overall that isn't overly stylized. Drinks were also phenomenally done. Then the dessert tasted fresh like it was made that day. Shipwreck Grill is as expected: high-quality items cooked well, with a price point to match that isn't overpriced but still expensive. The calamari was very good, I'm a spicy fan so the jalapeños were a nice touch. I ordered scallops scampi and asked for it very seared. Whatever sauce they gave me wasn't scampi, still decent, but everything especially the mashed potatoes was extremely salty. My husband ordered the scallop entree, both not seared and his was over salted as well. We both ordered desert , I had the chocolate caramel cake which almost tasted frozen , the gelato on top of it was the best part of it. He had the profiteroles, he said it was mediocre. We celebrated our anniversary dinner here and had an amazing experience! First things first, this is the safest I've seen a restaurant handle any Covid precautions. They checked everyone's temperatures before entering the seating area. The tables were at a safe distance, and the waiters did great avoiding touching our water glasses when refilling our water. We also had contactless menus too. The service was excellent; upbeat and friendly! The food was amazing. I had been really looking forward to enjoying a good surf and turf and it didn't disappoint. The filet mignon was so juicy, soft and tender. The lobster tail was full of meat and seasoned well. My boyfriend said his steak was delicious and he enjoyed the fried onion straws the meal came with. We liked our fruity cocktails; both were refreshing and a perfect pair for an outdoor summer dinner. I had been wanting to come here for awhile now and I'm so glad that we did. Great place to grab a burger and beer at the bar or have an upscale sit down dinner. Nice mature crowd which is always welcoming. Loved the vibe here. My friend and I had dinner at a high top table near the bar. It was packed so we didn't have much of a choice. For our entrees we both choose the petite filet and lobster special. The steak was cooked perfectly and the lobster melted in your mouth. it also came with your choice of fries or mashed potatoes. we opted for the mashed potatoes which were very creamy. I also loved their Ginger Drip martini. it was so delicious. The vodka is infused with ginger and they garnish it with a lemon and a piece of candied ginger on the rim of the glass. Beautiful presentation. The service was very good as well. I will definitely return and hopefully next time land a seat in their main dining room. read more

Had dinner last night. Sat at a high table near the bar with my wife. The experience was tremendous .. from the hostess to our lovely server .. the menu has some nice choices along with some good dinner specials .. we had the octopus app which was delicious in every way. Also a sushi tempura(?) roll. Raw tuna with rice and seaweed wrap then lightly deep fried exterior . Nice wasabi around the outside of the plate with Ponzu sauce . It was truly spectacular. Had a bowl of clam chowder that was really good although not chicken full of clams but chock full of flavor with corn and pancetta and nice small pieces of potatoes . Served hot but not burn your mouth hot. My wife had bronzino that she loved and I got a porterhouse burger. With fries and a side of creamed spinach which I loved but my wife felt a tad bit heavy on the garlic .. all in all and outstanding meal and fantastic service . I was in Bayhead in February visiting family and I decided to take my girlfriend out to dinner. Shipwreck Grill is a fun restaurant. The staff and the ambiance was great. Our bartender was awesome. I was surprised how upscale the place was. For my main coarse, I had their linguine and climbs which was delicious. My girlfriend had the sautéed halibut which she loved. I had a bite and it was wonderful! For dessert.. We split the profiteroles which were awesome. If you are looking for a fun and upscale restaurant with great food and service then this is the place.
