We did not have reservation for outside so we had drinks at the bar. We were seated under the tent which was very comfortable and a view of the water. We ordered our drinks and apps and had a wonderfully pleasant waitress, Delores. It was busy the day before Father's Day but the staff was on point with their service and demeanor. The apps: old bay fries, crispy and delicious. Steamers, sweet and succulent. Garlic shrimp, spiced just right with the crunchy shrimp. New England clam chowder, loaded with clam & potato in a creamy base. Dinner: Scallops & linguine in a truffle cream sauce, earthy and delicious. Shrimp& grits with andouille sausage, tasty and spicy. Both hot Lobster roll w butter and cold w/ bruschetta, tender juicy and plentiful. The addition of the tents outside is a great addition. Umbrellas just do not offer enough shade for the whole table. We enjoy our meals and will be back again. read more

We arrived on a busy Saturday evening in mid-May without a reservation. The host under-promised and over delivered - the text announcing our table arrived after a 25 minute wait instead of the forecasted thirty-five. If you are coming later in the season, I would try to reserve. First up -- some nice slices of warm crusty Italian bread and butter. I ordered a cocktail special - the Kelle Belle (or similar) which reminded me of a Pimm's cup. La Portena had her usual Riesling -- no complaints. Lobster bisque was one of the hits, the typical rich broth, with the not so typical actual lobster meat - small bits to be sure, but so often there is no lobster at all. We also shared a lobster roll as a starter - it was good but I would have preferred larger chunks of meat - the roll was accompanied by some tasty tortilla chips. Next up, a complimentary salad - this was fine. I ordered soft shell crabs - they were perfectly fried meaty specimens but the french fries and cole slaw seemed like afterthoughts- the plating was haphazard. La Portena's flounder stuffed with crabmeat was a better plate overall. Two fresh small filets, stuffed with a savory filling and some good mashed potatoes. The glass of New Zealand sauvignon blanc I chose to accompany the crab had the strongest grapefruit nose I have ever experienced. I know these always taste of grapefruit, but this wine was over the top. No room for dessert. Our server was warm and pleasant, and the entire experience transported me back to shore dinners with my parents in the 70s. I would return. read more

Our group stopped in early to grab a good seat by the water - what an amazing view! We started with some fantastic crab cakes to share, along with some beverages. The meals were all excellent, though my favorite was the scallops. Add friendly service and we had a great time! read more

Food was seasoned to perfection and plentiful. The salad was fresh, and served on a cold plate. The bread was warmed and crust was hard and crunchy. The shrimps were medium sized, fresh and with the scampi, there were 8. In the broccoli rabe and sausage, there were 4 nice size shrimp. The sauces on both dishes had just the right amount of seasoning. The drinks were pretty good as well. We both had frozen margaritas. Service was top notch. Our waitress was very caring and made sure all our needs were met. She even asked if we wanted her to take our picture. The ambiance we couldn't ask for anything better. We were seated right in the water side of the inlet where boats were docking to come to the restaurant, as well as see fishing boats coming in. Casual, waterside ambience, efficient service and hit or miss food. This is a vibrant, casual (we sat at a picnic table), waterside restaurant The service was efficient-not very friendly, but that's ok. The raw oysters were fresh and delicious. The oysters Rockefeller was among the best I've ever had. Then we got the the entrees. The fried shrimp and baked potato was the winner. I had the halibut special for $35-ish. Sadly, it was overcooked and bland. This was the same response the others in my party had. The entrees were disappointing. Based on our experience, stick to the fried foods. Oh, I need to mention that the cocktails were perfectly mixed. This restaurant is handicapped accessible. If I visit again, I'll have a cocktail, oysters and some fried shrimp and it will be a 5-star experience. I'd recommend you go here for drink and some food but skip the fancy stuff. read more

Great place to go eat down the shore. The Sunset dinners are first rate and a good deal.

Went to the Shrimp Box for lunch and sat inside where the menu is different from the outside. We started the meal with a house salad, we both had the salmon platter, and finished up with rice pudding. Service was excellent and we were able to get a window booth at 2pm. There were two large bus loads of patrons from Orange County NY enjoying the beautiful day at the Jersey shore and the excellent food. read more

Good food amazing service. Freshest seafood and ample portions. Prices reasonable! Update we were so thrilled with the appies and view I reviewed before my husband got his 53 dollar stuffed 1 1-2 lb lobster. It was so over done the shell was breaking apart. The legs and claws were like the dry turkey in Christmas vacation. There was barely any meat due to the fact it was way over done and we waited an hour for it. My husband did not want to complain but when the server asked I told her the problem and said we are not looking for anything but at that price it should be edible. They gave him free dessert I passed. So I would give the appy a 5 star and the dinner 3 stars. I had raw clam appetizer how can u go wrong and the cold seafood salad which was mediocre mostly squid rings. Our server was excellent, but not the food.
