This used to be my favorite restaurant. But unfortunately the quality has gone down over the years. It's changed hands at least twice since I started going here in the 90's. The service is fine and the vibe is nice. But the stuff we used to go for and that they are apparently famous for (award winning burgers and seafood) have dramatically declined. Ordered a medium rare specialty burger for $20+. It was the worst burger I've ever tasted. It was a hard, dry, flavorless hard to chew hockey puck. I didn't think it possible to serve a worse burger. Do try the Port Wine Cheddar Cheese Burger here. It was featured on a list of top burgers in NJ and wow it was packed with flavor! I would have to agree, this is probably the best burger I've had with its unique port wine cheese, bbq sauce, and amazing caramelized onions. It's the first burger I've ever had that didn't need ketchup added. Our waitress went above and beyond being attentive and thoughtful. She immediately closed the blinds when she saw me put my hand up to block the sun that bounced off of a car in the parking lot, and overheard us talking about sharing two burgers, so she had the chef cut the burger in half for us! Only reason for a 4 star is the dive bar atmosphere and over cooked bacon, but the food and service is outstanding so don't pass it by. read more

Came into (onto?) the ark to get out of the rain. It's a really interesting looking restaurant, with a lot of carving in the wood furniture and tables. They had a great selection of beers on tap, and the food was good. One of my brothers got the walnut crusted salmon, and we where surprised just how big a serving it was. The art pub is a vibe. It's got that lived in look and a trendy beer menu as well as really good food. This is like a comfortable old soul in a neighborhood that should never go away. We had a variety of things there and tried several apps as well as entrées each. we were a party of four. The tuna bites are a must have. This place is a landmark in point pleasant beach NJ. Not much to look at outside and inside is rustic with graffiti and carved initials in all booths. The food is absolutely tremendous. Wife had walnut encrusted salmon with Dijon mustard sauce. I had super generous half rack of ribs KC style , garlic mashed potatoes. Three different fish of the day and my understanding is it's caught today by the owner !! Cod tuna and flounder.. Places been around for a while and it's consistently pretty good casual food. Their burgers are big in size and very good. Recently stopped in and tried the ribs. They weren't great, weren't bad they were just average. Wings were very good, and the burgers didn't disappoint as usual. Service was excellent. My only complaint is that we ordered the beer broth clams, and they were ridiculously large clams. My 9 yr old ordered them, no one told us how large they are , definitely not medium (top neck) size not even close. They were more like a quahog ,really just too big. Last night went to the Ark for fresh seafood dinner and it was nothing but terrible the streamer clans where so big and tough , to the stuff clams burnt ! BTW the stuff clam are not whole clams but allot of bread crumbs and chop can clams just terrible! Now for our entry the special was sesame crusted tuna which was frozen tuna and cooked well done after asking waitress for rare. The other where scallops over cooked and tasted terrible, the cod fish broiled was not good at all and finally the linguine and red clam sauce was like eating can spaghetti! Stopped in for the first time today. Started with cod fingers, awesome fresh fish, a great appetizer. We both got the port wine burger. I mean we had to as the menu says it was voted best burger. Ok let me tell you its a great burger. Quality meat on a really fresh roll.the pickle was good and even the cole slaw was fresh. Only thing is the fries are god awful. Not sure how or why they serve them. If you get anything that comes with fries, just beg for anything else like mashed potatoes. Owners might want to stop by Blend on Main over in manasquan and get an order of fries to see what a difference great fries make. Blown away. This place just appeared inviting as in you know what you are in for. Super casual with bar bites and pub type food. The entire place has etchings in the wood in the booths, walls, blinds...it's honestly one of the things that brings thats dramatic bar character. Had the port wine cheese burger, OMG amaaaazing and the Merlot soaked mushroom burger. FYI, it is massive so if you get an app, prepare yourself. We got the Bavarian pretzel with home made cheese sauce. Wasn't that gross fluorescent yellow cheese from a can. So so good. This place was packed on a summer Friday night, so it's a good sign that the Ark was a solid decision Rob was our server, and he had the type of spunk you would see at Dick's Last Resort. Our family has been going to the Ark for 10+ years. The only complaint we've ever had has been its online customer service. For example, rather than post their daily specials, customers have to call. Answering employees clearly don't appreciate the interruption when they're busy, which is understandable. While they offer take-out, they don't offer a way to order online or delivery. Perhaps The Ark doesn't need to increase its customer base, but if they do, they should update their website. read more

The #1 best burger at the shore was a full miss for me. There was nothing special about it and the Port Wine Cheese was abnormally pink-- it looked like icing which was really unappetizing. The rye bread had a terrible taste , the corned beef which was just a few pieces was extremely dry and inedible. My order was to have French fries as well, not included. My wife and I started with an order of clams casino, as the Jersey Shore, clams , a perfect match, well they were ok, warm, not hot a bit underwhelming but hey they are known for their burgers so no big disappointment. We ordered their famous Port Wine cheese burger, and a Merlot Mushroom cheese burger, with a house salad for a slight up charge. The salad was good, My Merlot Mushroom burger had mushrooms , that were not sauteed in Merlot, a disappointment. My wifes famous Port Wine Cheese Burger tasted like Barbecue sauce? Strange, because the table next to us sent back a Barbecue Burger a few moments ago. Hmmmm just stating the facts. We never send food back, not in this day and age, so we did our best, paid the bill, left a tip, and went on our way. Stopped in couple nights ago after a fun evening on the pier and we were starving, with that being said this is the place that tames that hunger.
