Waves is a really cute coffee shop in the heart of Vancouver, it's nearby to several hotels, which made it an convenient stop on the way out of our hotel and into the city. The staff was very friendly and the shop was clean and well kept. Their menu offered a few different choices for coffee, however the coffee itself wasn't great. It was a snackish time of day and I had some time to kill before I would need to be meeting up with others for dinner, so I popped into a Waves Coffee House on Broadway and ordered a Peppermint Belgian Chocolate. Mmm, minty and chocolatey at the same time. Out of all the holiday flavored drinks that pop up in coffee shops each year, the minty hot chocolates are always my favourite. They also have lots of wonderful drinks on their regular menu, as well as both savory and sweet foods to nibble on. the worst experience I've had in any coffee shop ever. I asked for a smoothie not realizing it had milk which I can't have. So they started making the smoothie and I saw they were putting milk in and I asked if they use almond instead, which they then replied "we already poured it in" and I was like I can see that but I cant have milk can you please change it? and they kept saying no because they had already started making it but they didn't tell me the smoothie had milk. do I try to compromise for another drink that's less expensive than the one I ordered so I would still be loosing money. they kept saying no. I swear I was stuck in a hell loop and I was starving so that didn't help. eventually I got exhausted and left with no smoothie and 10 dollars poorer. long story short, glad I didn't tip. read more

It was silly and soggy and rainy in Vancouver but I needed a bagel and a coffee stat so I braved the weather in my raincoat and stumbled into Waves Coffee House. Here I had the legit BEST bagel sandwich I have ever had in my life. Like I do not know what they put in this but it was to die for. New York City has found its rival for best bagels ever. read more

We really like how this coffee shop incorporated maple into a drink, as people from WA state we felt excited to try this fun drink out. My experience here was similar to other locations in the Waves Coffee franchise. Waves excels at having good study spaces (and they don't block their power outlets, as seems to be the Vancouver independent coffee house trend of late). I've also always had extremely pleasant interactions with staff--friendly and helpful--kudos to however they train these people. Where they fall short is in their food and drink. Food options are of the highly processed, mass-produced variety--think very salty turkey sandwiches that were pre-made in a factory, and baked goods that have that distinctly unhomemade uniformity and texture. I'm not a coffee person, but again, the chai that I ordered here had the same mass-market flavor. I'm still giving this place 4 stars because it's a pretty dependable study spot. Go in with modest expectations and you won't be disappointed:). read more

Came here for an iced coffee. Parking here isn't the best, so try to walk here. There are some free spots on the side streets. The seating area is really large, and there are quite a few tables. This is good if you're a student. Unfortunately, the iced coffee I had tasted really burnt. I would've asked for a refund if I hadn't already left the building. Maybe it was a bad batch, but it literally left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I am in love and I don't care who knows. I step into Waves Coffee House from time to time as it is another coffee shop that is relatively close to work. Today was the day that I tried their blackberry mocha and wow has it ever taken my heart. Such an unusual combination yet so very delicious. To pair up my bevy with some food I tried their honey ham & cheese panini.. yum! This location is large and there is plenty of room to chillax at lunch ina nice comfy chair and read your book or sit at a table with friends and sip on your java or tea while chatting it up. Waves offers free Wifi, uses organic fair trade coffeee that is roasted in Vancouver and is Canadian. What more can you ask for. read more

I really like this place. To be honest, I've had my fair share of bad experiences with Waves Coffee in other locations, but this one is an exception. I went for the first time on Thursday to a French Meet up group. I had so much fun practicing my French with a group of strangers in (7pm every Thursday). A relatively quiet cafe with free wifi that's not password protected. The London fog was pretty good. (Not sure about the latte since I haven't tried it yet) and the baristas were very nice and friendly. Note: I think if you put in $25 into your waves card, you get a free drink..... The downtown location never mentioned this to me when I put in $20. read more

I love this place, and more importantly I love their free WiFi! They don't force you to ask them for a "code" to connect to the internet and they really could care less how long you stay. I can't speak for their drinks since I have only had peppermint tea however I did have some pretty amazing soup there! It was over priced of course but so god damn worth it!!! This is my go-to café if I'm looking for a nice peaceful place to work or relax with a good cup of coffee. I always order the Canadiano (it took me quite a few visits to realise that I was asking for an Americano each time and they call it a Canadiano!). I'm consistently served a great cup of coffee and always with a smile from the friendly and welcoming members of staff. The music they play is varied and adds to the 'chilled' atmosphere which I enjoy very much. This location is always packed and you have to fight free-Internet-access-seeking students for a table to sip your brew! That said, if you do manage to get a seat you can enjoy wireless in a fairly comfortable environment. If you're sipping solo, there is a bar along the windows with a view out to West Broadway, so you can watch the world go by while you're getting you're getting your caffeine fix. I have only once tried their sandwiches, and that is something I would not repeat. The coffee was fine ... but I think it's really the wifi that keeps people coming back. read more

Used to always come here a few years ago because of great coffee and real authentic "apple struedel". It is a block from hospital and I had a fasting and test time set and my son and his dog came with me for support. I raved about the "authentic struedel". Well the pastry supplier doesn't come from the same place and I was so hungry from my fast I ordered the house special with the lemon bread. I knew the prices would be high for downtown but really the $2 coffee at Mcdonalds restaurant would have worked. paid $16 for coffee and lemon bread for 2 people. overpriced. Also only one person working. I am walking impaired and when she handed me my coffee it fell apart (lid from base) had to pay a replacement. had I been given a free compimentary would have left her the $5 tip. $5 for coffee or in my case one on the floor so $21 for 2 coffee and 2 lemon bread. really expensive. the store did allow the dog in was the center of attention . when the coffee dropped all in restaurant watched the reaction and knew we had to pay to replace it. think they lost some customers. read more

The most crappest. I used to stop here occasionally because it is near my office, although I have no idea why, because there are two better cafes just down the block (I recommend Chiffon Patisserie for all your coffee-sandwich-dessert needs). I came in once and, on a whim, ordered a chocolate Americano. They make their mochas at Waves by grinding up chocolate bits with a blender so it mixes in well. They did this in my Americano, and it was incredible (hence the second star). Hereafter, even when I would ask them to, I'd repeatedly get chunks of chocolate sitting in the bottom of an Americano, unblended. It tastes like drinking a cloudy regular Americano until the last sip of chunky, chocolatey hell. The muffins look fruity and delicious, until you realize it's just a bland sugary cake with fruit stuck on top. The atmosphere is awful. The bathrooms are nice though. Meh. read more

Seems to be under new ownership that's family run and it's always dead in there yet only one person doing the till and making coffees. Waiting forever for your coffee and there's times I've gone in four days in a row and they were out of almond milk early in the day which leads me to believe they didn't run out but were simply to lazy to go buy more and for someone who's lactose intolerant that's no fun The place lacks atmosphere read more

The closest coffee shop to my work yet I rarely visit. The coffee is ok but expensive. The renos they did when they opened the place make it I relaxing place to sit. Everytime I go in there it seems like there is some "first day on the job" trainee taking my order or making my coffee, but I guess that is to be expected. So why two stars? Because I routinely stop at the local blendz or starbucks or timmyd ahead of this place despite this place being way more convenien; that and I dislike the fact that they call their toonie special something that costs 2.99..... read more

I visited today for a quick meeting and a drink. Service was OK but I was completely surprised out how dirty the men's restroom was. The sink, walls and toilet were grimy and looked like they hadn't had any attention in many days! Hopefully this was an exception but a coffee house like this should provide predictably clean facilities. read more

This Waves is never really busy so you can always find a seat, the coffee is ok but they have great panini sandwiches, I like the breakfast one any time of the day. The chain should also be congratulated for making wifi free all over town, once they started everybody had to make it free, remember the stupid Rogers signin at Starbucks. read more

This coffee house has very friendly staffs and offers good quality drinks. Plenty of seats, one of the biggest coffee house i've been to, very good place to meet up some friends and have a drink. I think they reserve seats for group meeting as well. read more
