Tried this place based on the yelp reviews and they do not match my experience. Overall average food on a touristy street. Would like to rate 2-1/2 stars but rounded up to 3. There are better options a few blocks off the main drag. We had the blueberry stuffed french toast which was very good and worth getting, but if you want real maple syrup it's $3 extra. The filling wasn't overly sweet and the French toast had good flavor, texture and cooked properly. Now for the rest. The home fries are not - they are square shaped deep fried French fries. Bacon is also deep fried - first I've see this in a diner - meaty, on the salty side and overly crisp since deep fried. Over easy Eggs just basic eggs but cooked properly. The toast was toasted and then grilled - too greasy for me. The veggie mishmash would have been good if they didn't deep fry the potatoes. The mushroom, spinach and onions were griddle cooked and tasted very good - but tossing them on top of crispy potato fries ruined it. Coffee was very mediocre, but did have a small teapot for the tea drinkers. read more

Absolutely incredible. Great atmosphere, service, and menu. The omelette was cooked beautifully. So well seasoned and fluffy; not toasted at all. French toast was also delicious. Don't worry if there is a wait, the tables turn over quickly, but you don't feel rushed. read more

Went for lunch on a rainy and cold afternoon. We were told it would be about a half hour wait so we went to do some shopping. Got back ~15 minutes later and they had already called our name, but gave us the first open table after we went back in. This was super appreciated because a lot of restaurants go by you snooze you lose!! Every item on the menu looked really delicious but I ordered the Reuben (pictured) and a side Caesar salad. The food came out really fast and was delicious! The wait staff were friendly and we really appreciated them letting us sit even though we didn't hear our name called. Great breakfasts! We went here 3 times in 5 days. Two days, the home fries were to die for. The third time, they weren't as good. I ordered an omelette and asked if they could please not brown the eggs, which is a pet peeve of mine. The server promised they would not be browned and sure enough, they were perfect. We also had their pancakes and French toast, and they were good. Good service rounded out our pleasant meals. read more

We were walking around Boothbay looking for a dinner place before going to see the lights at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. We had stopped at a place earlier in the evening, and were seated, but left when we realized they no longer offered fish and chips. walking further afield we came to Waves having passed by earlier in our walkabout. We started with Bang Bang Shrimp and Kung Pao Brussel Sprouts, both delicious and perfect. Two orders of fish and chips. I ordered the Lobster Roll, served in a sliced bun just the way I like it. Plenty of lobster. I typically order the Cole slaw rather than the chips. I like both, chips are always chips. Cole slaw I am a little finicky about, this time I was very pleased. My other companion ordered the grilled cheese. We were all completely impressed. We sat in the corner booth by the window we were fortunate that it was late enough so we didn't have to wait. I had to thank the chef in person for such an excellent meal. He was very gracious. Lots of reasons to return to Boothbay Harbor, and Waves is at the top of that list. read more

I am writing the following review as a traveler, not as a local, so you'll want to take that into account. My star rating on this one is based on what is available in the area, not necessarily what is available in the whole wide world. That said, for brunch or lunch you really can't go wrong with Waves. The space is small but bright, with cozy wooden booths, and the service is attentive. We ordered the calamari appetizer and it. was. perfect. Let me say that my husband is a calamari junkie. We have ordered it almost everywhere they've had it on the menu and this place nailed it. It was tender, not chewy, and the breading was crisp and didn't fall off as soon as you took a bite. The breading was also good on the fish in my sandwich and the hubs loved the oriental chicken wrap. read more

Stopped here for breakfast as I noticed some Lobster Benedict on the menu. Unfortunately I was told they were out of lobster!! I thought I was in Maine, in a town that has plenty of lobster. I ate here yesterday with my dad, grandpa who is blind and step-grandma who is also blind and uses a walker due to recovering from a broken hip. The food is excellent. Everyone left full and happy. This restaurant (and many others) is not naturally handicap accessible. There are 9 steps to get inside and there is no ramp. The restaurant is small and the walkway between tables was extremely narrow. No Braille menus. Before we knew all of this, my dad dropped myself and grandpa and step grandma off in the open loading zone area directly in front of the restaurant and my dad drove off to circle Boothbay Harbor in search of a parking spot. We chose this restaurant because it was directly across the street from the boat tour we were going on, which was convenient with her immobility issues. I almost gave up getting them inside the restaurant and was going to try to find somewhere else to go for us to eat that would hopefully be more handicap accessible and check all of the other boxes we needed. Jonathan (from Romania) came to the rescue. He works at the restaurant and he stopped what he was doing to help us get inside the restaurant and to the table and when it was time to leave, he helped my disabled grandparents down the stairs as well. He was so incredibly patient and kind. If it weren't for him, it would have been impossible to eat here. We are so grateful. He made us feel like valued customers rather than a burden. I have been a hostess and a server before for many many years, so I know exactly how hard his job is and how busy he was. I know there are a million other tasks he could have gotten done in the time he took to help us. My dad and I are local to Maine and will be back. Thank you, Jonathan. read more

Memorable breakfast. We visit Boothbay Harbor every year and this was our first time at Waves. We were really happy to have found a new favorite. The place is small and cute inside and I enjoyed the Led Zeppelin song they had playing in the background, not often that you hear that these days. We love this diner and the management/owner change improves an already wonderful experience. Jenny orchestrated the entire restaurant and filled the room with warmth and laughter. If you want to brighten your day you have to meet Jenny. However, the Waves also has terrific food. We had the stuffed french toast, eggs benedict, and berry smoothie. Whoa! That was a treat, my favorite was the eggs benedict with had perfect poached eggs, sliced ham (so the sauce would kiss the bread), and a fantastic toasted english muffin. Great stop! The only reason for the 4 and not a 5 is the small small small room. Guaranteed you will come out a size bigger than when you came in- and that is hard to maneuver past the crowds. read more

Just ate breakfast at Waves. If I could give it a 10 star rating, I would. The food was fantastic and the presentation just as good. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. Seating was spaced out accordingly, too. They are packed on weekends, so try going during the week. If you are there on a weekend, it's worth the wait!!
