Wow what a gem this is during the off season in Boothbay Harbor. There really is no where to even have a cup of coffee down this way before the tourists show up. I'm so glad i stumbled into this quaint spot. I was in the mood of a pastry and a coffee and was able to snag a bar seat at the counter since it can get pretty packed with it being such a small space. The coffee was excellent and free refills and self serve. I went for the apple fritter which i think was as big as my head, as the wonderful woman at the counter suggested it. This pastry was the absolute best apple fritter i have ever had. I don't expect something so large and from a vietnamese bakery to be so amazing since i don't correlate apple fritters with Vietnamese food. But i will from now on!!! Perfect crispy glazed exterior and when I say a pillowy inside i mean it was the most softest bread i've ever had. I could only eat part of it and then i took the rest home and air fried it to heat it up and it was just as good if not better!!! I would also love to give a shout out to the hospitality and service. The wonderful woman working the front is extremely well organized and so sweet to everyone. The folks working in the back even come out to greet you when they get a chance! I loved how cozy and quaint it was and will definitely come back for some classic Vietnamese dishes the next time i am in the area! A must try!! read more

Baker's Way is a fantastic locally-owned Vietnamese Bakery with the sweetest food AND staff. This is the holy grail if you're craving pastries. My personal favorite is the apple fritter, it seriously never EVER disappoints. If you're on the hungrier side you have to try their omelets or Bun Tuoi. If it's a nice day I would recommend taking the time to enjoy the food on their outdoor patio, it's beautiful, surrounded by greenery with views of the harbor. read more

Wow! Amazing. We need to drive an hour to get to Boothbay and now we will have to do it again. The food scene in Boothbay is nothing to rave about but this place certainly is. As described in the other reviews, a gem to be sure. Got pho even though it was hot outside, incredible flavour. It was mostly just broth, noodles and beef and at first we said where's the veg, why so plain. But we were fighting over it and had it the next day for lunch when it was just as good. Didn't even want to eat meat that day but this beef, I don't know why, was addictive. Summer rolls, wonderful. Fried tofu in lemongrass, different and delicious. What really is great is this family and the service. How many times have you eaten at an expensive restaurant where they hand you the take out containers and walk away? This owner, as busy as she was, ran outside to pour our leftover soups into the containers. They work so hard and what a product they put out. Croissants! (great) Apple fritters (amazing). Every time we're in Ocean Point, we make a point to visit Baker's Way and get their apple fritters (the size of your head!) They are delicious, unique, and a family favorite. Just bring them home, heat them up in the oven or microwave (for about thirty seconds) and they are even more delicious. We've also tried their enormous cinnamon rolls, chocolate donuts, cake donuts, and blueberry muffins which are very good, but the true standout-worth-a-special-trip item is the apple fritters. I'm kind of amazed that I didn't write a review before of this amazing stop in Boothbay Harbor. It could have been we wished to keep it secret, but now we certainly want as many to know as possible. This was clearly our biggest surprise meal from anywhere in Boothbay, small shop at nearly the end of the downtown area. It wasn't even the easiest to make our order, but the service was wonderful and we had a perfect seat outdoors waiting maybe five minutes on the whole for the great plates to arrive. Trust me, they were truly awesome plates no question about it. Well above expectations and some of the best Thai flavorings Rebecca or I have ever had. This cute little restaurant/cafe is affordable, fast, and really delicious. I love their 99cent donuts and their big turkey sandwiches. The Vietnamese dishes are also really tasty. The inside has a comfortable ambiance to it. But there is also a beautiful outdoor patio with plenty of seating. The staff are also hardworking and friendly. The bakery and food part of this cafe is the main draw. I had a BLT there yesterday, and it was hands-down delicious. Homemade bread cut thick and toasted, a ton of bacon, lettuce and tomato, and mayonnaise. A great place for a donut. That is if you call the fritter a donut. If they have not run out of fritters (they do pretty much every day I am told) and you do not buy one, then it is your own fault. We are just two people that snagged two giant pastries and three donuts to eat over two days. Everything was very good, but the fritter pastry was the best of the lot. We took them "home". We skipped the coffee and everything else for breakfast, but saw enough to know that if we need to plan another meal during our stay in Boothbay Harbor we will come back for the Vietnamese dishes. Maine is known for donut shops, and these are darn good donuts, even if not the "best" in Maine, or anything like that. They are not as good as Goodie Good donuts, and if you know how good those were, you are very fortunate. But this is a donut worth getting. If you buy one for a friend and actually give it to them you are a nicer person than I am. read more

This is one of the few places open for breakfast year round in Boothbay Harbor. I wasn't very impressed with my food, I got a turkey and cheese sandwich, no better then making it at home. But it was cheap, so I was okay with it. My husband got an omelette and a sandwich, he really liked his omelette. It's a Vietnamese place so I'd like to go back and try some of their other food. Couldn't find anywhere open to get some breakfast this morning and passing by a Good Samaritan in town they told us bakers way was a good spot to get some food. It's a quaint little spot in town to get a relatively good bit to eat, it is what it is and it's good food and service for what it is. We were visiting the area and having trouble finding any Vegan food to eat. My aunt took us here and it turns out that they have some tofu dishes. The Lemongrass Tofu was delicious, hot, filling and brought to us in a timely manner. Minus 1 star because the Tofu was under cooked. Highly recommend for a great breakfast in town. The food is cheap with few options on the menu, but all food was prepared very well nonetheless. They offer omelettes, breakfast sandwiches and some sides, along with various juices and of course coffee(which by the way, was reallllly good). There is some seating inside, and a lot more seating outside. Some shaded areas to sit, along with a great view of the harbor. Veterans of the West Coast donut scene totally won't be surprised to find the Second Best Apple Fritters in New England in a tiny Vietnamese restaurant that calls itself a bakery and serves cheeseburgers and tuna melts alongside its pho, but you've got to admit that it's a wacky thing to stumble upon in a twee little Maine tourist town. Their raised donuts are quite good when fresh, but only a delusional wingnut would order anything other than their beaver-sized apple fritter. Aside from being a little on the dry side, they're everything you'd dream of in a proper West Coast fritter. The crispy, craggy, dough is larded with so many apple chunks that a high percentage of them get directly exposed to the oil and glaze, and thus transcendantly carmelized. And speaking of the glaze, they're not shy with it. They dunk the whole damn fritter, meaning that the tooth-buckling sweetness hides in every nook and bunghole, and that even the bottom is hella glazed. Too many fritters get the top-only treatment, and I couldn't be more overjoyed that these fine Mainers go all the way and give those suckers the full Brazilian. read more

We visited Baker's Way just before a concert at the Boothbay Opera House. Our time was limited so we called in an order on the way. Everything was ready when we arrived. There is outdoor seating for about 25 people and indoor seating for about 16. We sat inside and good thing. The skies opened about 5 minutes into our meal. I ordered a wonton soup appetizer. The serving appeared t be a quart with 8-10 pork-filled wontons. Very good. Others in the party had the spring rolls and liked them as well. We also had 2 orders of steamed dumplings and 1 order of fried which I preferred. That is just me. The main course was Pad Thai with shrimp for both couples. We took home enough for another meal. I noticed on order of Pho going by. The menu title "Big Bowl Soup" is no misnomer. The bowl is huge! The total bill was $56.00, most reasonable. Remember this place is billed as a bakery! We haven't said anything about the dinner-plate sized cinnamon rolls! read more

After reading some reviews, we decided to try some of the Vietnamese fare. I was not impressed. The woman at the counter had a limited command of English and was unable to add up the cost of the dishes and answer a question about the baked goods at the same time (she said so). The appetizers of spring rolls was ok though they came with the oddest-tasting peanut sauce I've ever had. The two entrees ordered - ginger pork and lemongrass beef - tasted exactly the same. No lemongrass, a few large pieces of ginger, the exact same combo of vegetables, all drowned in sauce. The food came in 2 styrofoam boxes which were literally thrown onto our table (salt and pepper shakers were knocked over in the process) without a word. There was also a fly inside the case of doughnuts. Won't be back. read more

Words can't express how delicious our meal here was. We spent a ton of money on food for the entirety of our trip, and stumbled across this delicious Vietnamese restaurant. I've been to quite a few Vietnamese places and this food was by far the freshest. The owners speak very little English, but they're so very friendly. They've worked so hard for everything they have, and put so much love into their food. We ordered Pad Thai and Lo Mein combinations. The veggies were tender and steamed to perfection. Along with the chicken and shrimp. The cinnamon/honey buns and the Apple fritters were also delightful. Another yelper wrote that the honey buns are the size of a platter. I can concur. The lovely woman at the register took our order, pointed us to the socially distanced tables on the back patio, and brought out dish after tasty dish -- dumplings, summer rolls, yellow curry, bun tuoi, and chicken stir-fried with vegetables and ginger. And we were more than happy to step into this nice, friendly, welcoming small bakery with a good choice of dumplings, Vietnamese veggie rolls, noodle dishes and soups! As we finished our dinner and wanted to take some pastries for next morning's breakfast. The young lady saw our two little kids and kindly gave us three more pastries for free. :)) feel like at home! So, this is basically diner food with ethnic flair. My husband loves pho, and has had the privilege of having many delicious bowls at multiple locations in the Los Angeles area, so he was disappointed that this one didn't come with cilantro, sprouts, lime or jalapeño or, in fact, anything on the side - even after he asked. (She said, "I added it for you," but he reported that he couldn't taste any.) The broth was also slicked over with visible grease and was fairly bland. I had been given a recommendation for, and ordered an omelette, which tasted fine, but the cheese was obviously completely processed "fake" cheese. When a bit fell on the ground, our scraps-loving dog wouldn't even eat it, so that has to tell you something. The saddest thing about it is that the owners are actually Vietnamese (she had such a thick accent I could barely understand her), so you'd think they could produce a more authentic pho. read more

This place is such hidden gem, I almost don't want to review it because it's so amazing. Some traditional Vietnamese dishes along with some other "non-traditional" ones like pad Thai. This place is small and not fancy but what it lacks in aesthetics, it makes up for in flavor. The Bun Tuoi is to die for, made perfect every time with garlic, onions, lettuce, cucumber, vermicelli and your choice of meat. Just be aware there may be a wait and depending on who picks up the phone I recommend repeating your order if they don't repeat it back to you (they normally do). The smell is inviting, the food looks good, but what prompted this review is their service. If you don't expect a 'thank you' when doing business here, by all means, eat here. Have stopped here 2 days in a row for a quick bite to eat due to a family emergency where we did not have time to stop and sit down to eat, (we have been visiting BBH for over 30 years), and both visits concluded with no appreciation of my patronage. I'm a big fan of service, and it was not present here on either visit. I stopped by and asked if the pasty had cream cheese in it (my favorite), and the young lady helping me said, "I don't know, my mom puts in whatever she has left".....oooookaaaaayyyyy and that's how it went. I shrugged it off as she really didn't know and so after her yes, it does have cream cheese in it, I bought the pastry. It was tasty and was happy and concluded that she just was having an off day. It was yummy enough that I stopped again the next day (today) and ordered the same thing with some other items. After paying BOTH times, NO THANK YOU, either time! (Pet peeve alert!) I'm sorry, you patronize a business, you deserve a 'thank you', of course, unless you don't care. I've been working/living in the boothbay area for several years now and I frequent many restaurants. This is one of my favorites and the most consistent. They have delicious and fresh baked good, good coffee, yummy breakfast. People often forget or don't realize that they also serve lunch and dinner. Which are also delicious!! Stopped here for lunch today after seeing signs for sandwiches. Very confusing when you walk in because there is not much of a menu, only signs for a couple sandwich options, breakfast (omelette, etc.), giant donuts and then a full Vietnamese menu. My boyfriend ordered a sandwich - they forgot the bacon and onions, added tomatoes and pickles that he did not ask for. I ordered a chicken stir fry, which after waiting a significant of time after the sandwich, did not come out for another 15 minutes or so. We split the sandwich and finally received the ginger stir fry which really had no ginger and quite uncooked vegetables. I understand they were in the middle of a lunch rush with many to-go orders, but I recommend one menu and sticking to it!
