    Hazelnut Truffle

The pastries are amazing. The hazelnut truffle was the best I've ever had! Perfect tempered chocolate shell with four layers of deliciousness on the inside.

Harbor Treats has friendly staff, delicious food, and great prices! We found the area to be a bit expensive food-wise after we had a morning of shopping, so when we stopped by the window of Harbor Treats, we were just hoping for something edible! The coffee was just OK--wouldn't get it again (watery and not strong) but the sandwich we split was DELICIOUS! We got the turkey club. It was quick and service was super friendly. We will be here again :)

Croissants are a must have! I went every day to get them while I was staying in Boothbay.

Go here!!! As previously mentioned, the pastries here are to die for! Flaky, gooey with the right amount of crisp. Outstanding!

They don't allow…read moresamples as others have mentioned, which really hampers my willingness to try their very creative flavors. It's a cop out to talk about sampling spoons as waste when I've seen other ice cream shops find solutions to that, it's really just greed. They know they'll sell ice cream regardless so they'll cut that corner. Maybe lines are a little longer, but as a local, it makes me not want to come back all year long. Also, the base recipe they seem to use is VERY thick and rich, to the point where it's arguably too much and takes away from the flavors. I've had some good bites here too so it's not a dud altogether. I'll say I'm partial to higher end ice cream (which I feel MDI falls into), and will pay a premium happily for a great product, but I haven't been back in a while because it's hit or miss if I'll enjoy my ice cream since they don't offer samples. I've also not craved any of the 5 or so flavors I've tried in order to return for them. There's great potential there, and I am opening to trying it again if they decide to prioritize local customers over the summer tourists.

Between the dessert cafe menu being available and the shops being side by side and the website not being so discerning this is honestly the second time I've tried to go to the dessert shop and it being closed. To my dismay not only that but the lady scooping wasn't the friendliest person either since we drove out of the way we got some ice cream. We sampled a few. I got the goatcheese blackberry chamboard and it was tasty. As was the Cuban coffee, but YIKES. 2 small scoops was $17! I have no issue paying for ice cream, but for a small being $8 and change, that is nutty even for me. And it was truly a small scoop- not like other New England scoop shops when a "small" is the size of a tennis ball. This was a true small. Imma pass

Our server was very friendly and was happy to answer any questions we had as well as let us sample flavors. I got a small cup with a scoop of Maine Whoopie Pie and a scoop of Speculoos & Chocolate. The pretzel one had a caramel taste which I liked, and the whoopie pie was a vanilla base with chocolate cake--both were super tasty and creamy. I do wish it was a little bigger for the price but it was so good nonetheless. They have seating outdoors and it was a cool day out so we enjoyed our treats outside right by the boats. They also have a dessert bar next door serving desserts with alcohol, she said it'll be opening in a few weeks. Cool idea!

You scream. I…read morescream. We all scream... for site made ice cream on a working Maine dairy farm ! This is a special place... a farm on a hill with their own farm shop featuring glass-bottled milk, sandwiches, and most importantly... Ice Cream ! Starting mid-April or so, they open up "The Barnyard" which is a nice little petting zoo for the kids... and occasionally a "Goat Yoga" spot for adults... which is just so uniquely crazy it almost makes me wish I did yoga. Not into yoga...? I get you. Lucky for us, they also have a hardware store / lumber yard, so you could feasibly come for Mocha Chip and stay for the 4x4 milled posts, and that's not an experience you'll soon get at a national big-box lumber store. Or a Baskin Robbins, for that matter. This place is an experience. The farm is gorgeous, the staff are friendly, the animals are fun, the lumber yard is definitely there, and the product... well that's where it's at... it's excellent. There are a few working dairy farms like this one dotted around the state, and I encourage you to check out each and every one. Smiling Hill Farm is that extra special sort of place, where it's only a few miles drive outside of Portland, but it feels worlds away and it's so, so worth the effort to get to. They also have ready-to-go quarts in the freezer, their various dairy offerings, and rotating, seasonal farm shop fare. Support your local farmers! Also... I've found the local barn cats to be super friendly and just a treat to hang with. YMMV
