This year I opted for a Boston cream pic cupcake selection for the Boston cream pie lover in my life. The inside was a yellow cake base with the standard Boston cream in the middle and a hardened chocolate shell over cream on top. I made a special request for some lettering and they came packaged in a box that allowed for complete stability of the cakes. I accidentally left them out in a cold area prior to serving but they turned out totally fine! I would have normally done a regular Boston cream pie but circumstances made cupcakes an easier option. Will be trying the full cake next time. Definitely recommend if you're in the area -- ordering, customizing, payment, and pick up were all insanely easy.

They're the perfect balance of both dense and yet they melt-in-your-mouth; the "icing" (whatever notion you have of icing, throw it away because that's not what this is but a word hasn't been invented yet for whatever is going on with these buns) is sticky and creamy and has a little hint of citrus. And I am not sure I can never eat another cinnamon roll again, because these have spoiled me forever (I was swooning so much the first time we had them that my partner let me finish his as well!). The staff (two young ladies on this morning) were busy hustling and, even with that, were helpful as they tried to keep taking care of customers. The vanilla latte was SUE-PERB, albeit a bit hot for my taste (had it let is cool first). As we sat having our halfway-between-breakfast-and-lunch-but-not-really-brunch snack there was a steady stream of customers, I'm guessing about 50/50 regulars and cruisers. Aside from pastries, coffees and teas, there's a cooler with canned/bottle beverages for the on-the-go beverage drinker. With as much activity as was going on during our visit you'd think it'd be difficult to keep clean, but there was a gentleman who came out frequently to take care of emptied tables, trash, etc. There are windows into the baking area, proving that they've got nothing to hide. Most everything is made on site with fresh, natural ingredients by people who take pride in what they do. Atlantic Baking is a charming place and a nice stop for a mid-morning snack

Axis began carrying little two-bite cakes from Ahimsa (a local company), and everyone seemed to love them (read: they were so popular that Axis frequently ran out!). When I finally got to try one, I believe it was chocolate-peanut butter. And: IT. WAS. DELICIOUS. Unlike so many other vegan baked goods I had tried, it wasn't cardboard-y in either taste or texture; it was perfectly moist, unbelievably flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth good. I had never thought something vegan could taste so sinfully delicious (Ahimsa is super proud of the fact that 90% of their returning customers aren't veg or veeg)! Since then, I had the privilege of working with Kristi (the baker and artist) on a project for my blog. She made me a beautiful german chocolate cake with the most delectable coconutty, bourbon-vanillay frosting I've ever had in my life (thinking about it now is making me drool a little... I could have probably eaten the stuff straight outta the container with a spoon). I didn't share a single bite, and to this day, I don't regret that decision at all! If you're searching for all-natural, organic, from-scratch cakes or cupcakes... look no further! If you're in need of an Ace of Cakes-style 3D-sculpted style cake... your search is over. Ahimsa (which means non-violence towards all living things) is absolutely the place for you. Do know: everything is made to order and you'll need to make an appointment, because Kristi works out of her state-licensed and inspected home kitchen (and just showing up at her house would be wildly rude and uncool!). After my visit I am just wondering what this is all about. Maybe just the drinks honestly. I don't know really and after my experience I am not sure I even want to go back. I stopped here to get some bagels to have for breakfast the next day. The bagels are not homemade, they are from NY which is not a problem. I was perfectly fine with that. The cream cheeses are on the homemade side. They tasted great honestly the ones we had. Where things went south for us is the male at the register taking my order. He basically told me I would be better off going to the Hannaford grocery in town for bagels and cream cheese, as I was placing my order. That kind of rubbed me the wrong way. As I am trying to give business to the locals. To imply for me go elsewhere was odd. When I was there there was not a long line or anything. So it was not like I was holding anyone up. I felt like maybe they did not want to scoop the cream cheeses into a cup. I do not know. But, it just left a bad feeling all together. From that point on I did not order any drinks or other food.
