Interesting menu, cute decor, friendly staff. Frittata was very good, as was the fried eggs with sautéed greens. But the star of breakfast was the blueberry pancakes. I don't have the exact hours but you might want to check because I've been there when they're closed. I do know they open at seven and on the weekend, you wanna get there early because they do sell out of things. All their pastries are killer. Today bought a blueberry muffin, a maple cinnamon roll and the special of the day, which I don't know the name of, but it was a biscuit with clotted cream and homemade raspberry jam made out of the owners garden. It was scrumptious. It is also a little store and you can buy all kinds of cute things in there, there is an area to eat both inside and outside, but I am only talking of three or four tables in each location. They also make coffee drinks and they also have croissants with eggs and bacon. Have not had one of those in years so I can't really comment on that. Anyway, well worth a little side trip to this darling bakery.

I got a latte and a gift for my granddaughter--so many items for babies and children's gifts. I asked how long they've been there and was told 6 years. I said wow, you made it through COVID, that says a lot. He replied that's when they opened, right before the world closed for business. He said the shop items got them through the worst of it. Every place has a story. It's nice when you meet someone willing to chat for a while. They have the best looking baked goods too!! The outdoor eating steals inviting--they've even prepared for your furry friends with water bowls and a doggie bed.

The cookies were over baked and the scone had no real flavor at all, despite a good amount of blueberries in it. I am not really a fan of the confections, but again, the owner was super nice. We custom ordered a pumpkin ginger loaf with hazelnuts and looked forward to enjoying it. We picked it up on Thursday and ate a slice on Friday. Besides the loaf being badly overcooked and burnt, this caused us some stomach insertion and discomfort. Not sure why but they are so kind so this is not my first choice. Nevertheless this should not have been sold to us if they care about all customers, locals and tourist alike, like we were. I decided to have a second slice this morning to see if Friday's stomach discomfort was a fluke but again the same thing happened. We just tossed the loaf into the garbage can. No hate just love but apparently the $10.99 ($8.99 plus $2.00 tip) means more to them than their reputation. Sorry but you left us no choice. Good luck and wish you well!

There was truly no greater feeling than walking up to this cute, cozy little bakery and seeing a "Sold Out" sign, knowing that I had maybe 20+ pastry items waiting for me. The taste lived up to the hype. I tried the pistachio croissant, which was unique and had a lovely unexpected chocolate filling. But the apple kouign amann with the caramel filling was simply to die for. I got other pastry items to see how they stacked up against Portland's greatest (e.g. ham & cheese croissant, plain croissant, bagels). These standard items were good, I think where the Place Bakery truly shines is the more unique pastry items that you won't find elsewhere. They are clearly gifted bakers, have a trusted cult following and are a staple in the neighborhood. If you're only open on the weekends and still able to float as a business, you're doing something right. Run, don't walk, to the Place Bakery.

We got an egg and cheese (they'd already run out of bacon and we got there late), a slice of frittata, and a biscuit. Also got a bagel but we are saving it for tomorrow. The frittata is absolutely delicious (it was spinach, sun-dried tomato's, mozzarella, and sweet potato) and had such a wonderfully surprising kick of heat from the lightly sprinkled red chili flakes and sea salt. The egg and cheese was also so delicious! Looking forward to returning and trying their sweet pastries and beverages!

I think there was difficulty staffing that (a common problem in Maine) so they have scaled down. The sandwiches are phenomenal. Only served until 2:30 each day. The hot peppers, balsamic vinegar and oil make these sandwiches. Make sure you just get everything on your sandwich. The service is still quite slow, which is probably due to staffing but it's an issue. There are many gluten free options but it is not a gluten free bakery.
