David Atwater's The Bakery is a welcome arrival. Offering a variety of scratch muffins, pastries, breads, cakes and pies, our favorites are the fresh blueberry muffins (and blueberry muffin "holes"!) and the Anadama bread. Located just off Main street in the Municipal Parking lot, The Bakery opens at 7am and has a few small tables if you don't have to rush home to feed a crowd. Quite cheerful service from David, Betty and Grace.

Interesting menu, cute decor, friendly staff. Frittata was very good, as was the fried eggs with sautéed greens. But the star of breakfast was the blueberry pancakes. If you are absolutely desperate for gluten free baked goods MAYBE you want to give this place a try…read morebut otherwise avoid at all cost. The food here is god awful. Even the non-gluten foods are mediocre at best. Total waste of money and barely edible. I can't help but wonder who is writing these 4 & 5 stars reviews‼ I do know for a fact that a negative review has been taken down because there was one here a week ago that's no longer here. Can't help but wonder about others...The food is atrocious yet 4 stars?? I'm a long time (30 year) gluten free person, not by choice. Back 30 years ago I was making my own gf baked goods, but the chemistry was early stages so most recipes didn't hit the mark. GF baking has come a LONG way since then, however not at this place--still dry and overly sweet, or wet and undercooked--most items barely resemble their description. To add insult to the injury of the expensive and surprisingly bad food, staff is unwelcoming and quite rude right out of the gate. Do yourself a favor--go to Wild Flour Bakery in Brunswick for FABULOUS GF baked goods. Or, if you're in Portland hit up Holy Donut for gluten free donuts that are actual donuts! YUM. Both are worth the drive!

I don't have the exact hours but you might want to check because I've been there when they're closed. I do know they open at seven and on the weekend, you wanna get there early because they do sell out of things. All their pastries are killer. Today bought a blueberry muffin, a maple cinnamon roll and the special of the day, which I don't know the name of, but it was a biscuit with clotted cream and homemade raspberry jam made out of the owners garden. It was scrumptious. It is also a little store and you can buy all kinds of cute things in there, there is an area to eat both inside and outside, but I am only talking of three or four tables in each location. They also make coffee drinks and they also have croissants with eggs and bacon. Have not had one of those in years so I can't really comment on that. Anyway, well worth a little side trip to this darling bakery.
