I was skeptical of the food at first but once I tried both the caesar and kale salad, I was obsessed to say the least. The croutons on the caesar were amazing and the kale was very refreshing. The service was better than the food and the food was AMAZING! Ramon, our model of a server was so wonderful, making recommendations, sharing his favs and always checking on us. Came here for my friends birthday and the manager Rachel was extremely persistent in letting us know we had to be out by 8pm (we arrived at 5:37p). She called twice and also had our poor waiter remind us that we had to be out by 8pm, I found it extremely rude and distracting away from my dear friend's birthday celebration. She was acting that a party of 16 was not worth the reservation and I would be weary of booking with this restaurant because of her attitude, I understand she is a manager as well, so it is unfortunate that she pressures her employees to be feeling rushed with their parties enough for the waiter to express his concerns. read more

There was a DJ inside, and the noise level was alright. The egg salad sandwich was super flavorful and delicious that I wish I had ordered another one. Easy to come here for brunch in the am. Never had to wait to be seated. Lovely seating indoors or out on the patio. I really do love the umbrellas on the patio for a warm day. Our service was great as well. We never had to cue anyone for help and our water glasses were always full. I had the delicious iced Rosemary matcha. The Rosemary just left a refreshing taste but it was not strong. The matcha however was perfectly slightly sweet. My husband ordered the farm egg benedict and I had the Turkish poached eggs. I absolutely loved the Turkish poached eggs. The Aleppo was my favorite part. The meal itself was filling and everything tasted fresh, especially the cucumbers. My husband's egg Benedict was just as delicious and fresh. The hollandaise was lacking, mostly in the fact that it was so lightly provided that you could barely taste it. Enjoyed a solid dinner at Waverly. We sat outside which was nice to enjoy the sunset. The server was very attentive for our whole meal which was nice. I started off with a glass of red that was recommended to me by the server. I asked for something less on the dry and tannin-y side and he made a good choice that fit what I wanted (I believe it was a Syrah or Syrah blend). We enjoyed the burrata donuts (not pictured) and they were delicious but particularly nothing outstanding. I ordered the cavatelli as my main which was very good in flavor and the portion was perfect. I did feel that it could do with a bit less saltiness but I enjoyed it nonetheless and would definitely get it again. The parking lot is a plus! read more

We sat on the patio with a friend's dog and were very impressed at how dog-friendly this restaurant was. Waverly-branded water bowls, a dedicated dog menu (we got the cheddar bacon treats), and lots of other happy pups at other tables. We started with the funfetti pancakes which were delicious, but I would not recommend this item based on the portion size. This $13 pancake stack was gone in three bites, and marketed as a shareable starter- and also barely had maple syrup...I wish it came with a small side of syrup to pour over. I had the Turkish poached eggs which was good, but would have been better if the yogurt had herbs and bread was more of a charred, buttered sourdough vs an almost-stale white bread. My friend had the Caesar salad which she liked. Overall, I think the food here is good and I would come back, but little adjustments could make this a 5 star establishment! Small note about the parking- the lot is right next to the beach and they have lot attendants walking around, ticketing cars that are parked for longer than an hour to dissuade people from parking in the lot and spending all day at the beach. Ok. Service was great. Until the bill came. This guy, and I'm not naming him, said he would send us samples of some of their signature items... We got them and everything was great... At the end he plopped down his bill machine that showed nothing detailing the bill. I'm talking a pretty considerable difference in what the bill should be and what he confidently tried to charge me. This guy hit us with not only the samples he said were comped but also a big service charge. I'm sorry guys. If you gave this place a good review, maybe you didn't check your bill. This restaurant is in a strip mall. It's cute inside so I recommend you request to be seated inside or call ahead and ask not to be seated by the pizza place. I made a reservation far in advance for our daughter's birthday because that was where she wanted to go. When we arrived we were given the worst table in the restaurant, outside in the strip mall near the benches where the pizza place is. I was a hostess years ago, you seat your reservations at your better tables. The restaurant is decorated nicely there music playing and a nice vibe inside, who would want to sit in the strip mall by the pizza joint and pay the same prices (not a cheap restaurant) as those sitting inside or at the outside tables that are more a part of the restaurant? The server was nice, we had drinks then left to eat at PCG down the road, they gave us a really nice round table and we had a great evening there. read more

First time here. Over half of the restaurant was empty when we showed up yet the hostess said she couldn't sit us. My husband showed her reservations could easily be made on open table and she was equally confused as we were. I made a comment suggesting "maybe this is why over half the restaurant is empty" suggesting that perhaps it's a technical issue that's making it difficult to coordinate between what she's seeing on her tablet vs what we're seeing on open table. She stopped fumbling and said "I'm just trying to make you happy". I was calmly asked her why she said that "because you're mad" she replied, obviously flustered with the situation. I was taken back by her sudden defensive reaction but also acknowledging that perhaps she is one of those people who can mistakenly interpret things as a personal attack so I explained myself, "I'm confused but not mad. I haven't even expressed any emotion." She sat us at a two top with uncomfortable chairs and prefaced that we had to leave this table by a certain time because it was reserved. We were uncomfortable and our server said we could switch seats. We did, and ordered, but then the manager came over and asked us to move again and gave us lots of resistance and attitude when we tried to explain how much trouble it's been trying to get a table here. She said they were fully booked but we tried to tell her that reservations were fully open on open table and instead of trying to understand our perspective she said "I don't want to argue with you" with a smug look on her face. My husband and I felt completely unwelcome and berated, despite being long time locals. We decided to leave as the whole experience ruined our appetite for the place. I've been to Waverly many times now and each time I have a great experience. The ambiance itself is fun, bright, and casual during the day, and a bit more sultry and moody at night but still energetic. The food is always delicious and portion sizes are decent as well. My recent favorites are the whipped ricotta and focaccia appetizer which is so flavorful and beautifully presented (though I do wish they provided more bread, its $3 charge for extra), and the salted caramel pudding which is my boyfriend's favorite dessert ever. The flaky sea salt on top really makes it a stand out dessert. Prices are a bit on the high side but to be expected in Cardiff. The service is always friendly and prompt as well. Another nice 4.5 star meal at Waverly (I forgot my phone at home so no new pictures from this visit!). They now take Open Table reservations, and I really appreciate that you can put in a request for a table outside. I would have preferred the back patio next to the parking lot (which has more atmosphere than the tables by the lawn and the other stores in the strip mall, where we were) but I'm glad we were still outside. It was a little hectic to check in tonight (because of people who had left the races?) but once we sat down everything was fine. And the hostesses were great even though they had a line. Things here are a bit pricey even for the area. Cocktails are normally $19-20. They had a special tonight for the races, Opening Day Mint Julep. A bargain for $10. I wasn't crazy about the presentation (crushed ice like a snow cone with mint), because I like sipping a whiskey drink from a glass, not using a straw, and otherwise the ice was piled too high to sip from. But I got an extra plate to push off some of the crushed ice and then I could sip it happily. It was tasty, a classic mint julep. Appetizers: I've been wanting to try the brussel sprouts cacio e pepe. But my sweetie smelled them as we passed another table and the smell bothered him - so he asked me to get something else LOL. I got the kale salad, which you can't go wrong with here. He got the burrata donuts, which again is a very good dish. I would have liked more choices for a pescatarian than the agnolotti (which I've had a few times) or the salmon (which looks very good but also very light, with no side dishes) or the whole snapper. They had a polenta and a seabass on recent menus but they're gone. My agnolotti was good as usual (not spectacular). The best course was dessert: the chocolate galette (=lava cake) with oreo ice cream & crumbles, and then the butterscotch pudding with caramel, were both spectacular. 5 stars for each. Omar was a nice server and the bussers did well too. A solid meal again though I'd love to see a little more variety over time and prices a few dollars cheaper on the apps and the cocktails would be welcome. read more

It's a cute spot come here a couple times a month. However the food is inconsistent as well as the service. The other night we only saw our waitress one time in an hour and only had one tiny glass of water. She never came back to take our drink order. We had to go to the bar to pay and they said they were working on a project in the back and apologized. The food this visit, was excellent. But in the past flavors would be unbalanced, too salty, or overcooked. The menu is great just a few rough edges to iron out.
