Came back for dinner and had the best experience. As expected the drinks were amazing, and would recommend dinner over breakfast hands down. There is a lot more creativity in the dinner dishes and flavor than experienced at breakfast. We had the cavatelli pasta, "ceviche", and caesar salad. Each was unique and delicious. Knowing the pasta was homemade made my heart happy as thats rare to receive at restaurants. The servers were all really polite & accommodating which was appreciated with two littles. DEFINITELY recommend this spot. Came here for a surprise birthday dinner with my boyfriend and was blown away by the whole experience. Our server Ramon was constantly checking up on us to make sure we had everything we needed. He was so kind and welcoming which made the experience even better. The manager also checked on us to make sure we were enjoying our time here and we really appreciated that! We came during happy hour and the drinks were FANTASTIC along with the Single Single burger. We had dinner at Waverly with friends last night. This restaurant has an open and contemporary design. We had reservations and I'm glad we did. It was a hopping and busy place for a Wednesday. I was pleasantly surprised that they have live music on Wednesday nights. It was a nice touch but loud and made it difficult for our party of 4 to communicate with each other. The waverly has a positive energy and the staff is well trained and were attentive and friendly, even though we paced our dinner out to around 2.5-3 hours catching up with our friends. Most busy restaurants would say something. I was pleased the staff continued to pour our wine and water glasses, as graciously as when we started our evening. Cocktails: I had the Kona Old Fashioned (5/5) and my buddy had a green cocktail that he enjoyed, but I can't remember the name. The Waverly has some very inventive and unique cocktails. Food: we started with sharing the Caesar salad (7/5) and the blistered shishito peppers (5/5). Both were very good. The Caesar salad was huge and I was glad all 4 were sharing. It had these unique and delicious custom croutons that are a 1.5 inch toasted cube of French bread filled with a garlicky cream. Such a great spin to a normal Caesar. My wife had the braised beef rioja (5/5) and I had the grilled pork chop with an apple cider glaze (3.5/5). The pork chop had more sweetness than I prefer. My wife loved this very savory braised beef dish served over very smooth mashed potatoes. I regret not choosing the beef rioja. Overall we had a good experience at Waverly, albeit loud with the live music. I can see why this is our Cardiff friends go to restaurant. read more

2-4 stars. This place has been on my list for a while now and on Saturday I got the opportunity to try it out. Seems like making reservations is the way to go for this spot because we were there before noon and apparently all the interior seating was already reserved. They said they could sit us out front at the patio, but they had another reservation coming at 11:45am. We assured them we'd be done by then, even though I'm a slow eater. The host and server were really friendly and kind. Their service was fast and thoughtful! I thought it was interesting how their menu was a mix of healthy and recreations of popular fast food items. Although the prices were insanely high. It's honestly so wild. They had a Daytime Menu (11am-3pm) and another menu which had their yogurt bowls, French toasts, etc on it. I went with their $19 Filet O Fish from their 11am-3pm menu. I wasn't sure if I'd like it because I've never had local rockfish before. Honestly I didn't like this fish at first, but once I lathered more of the tartar sauce on it I enjoyed it. It also contained lettuce and American cheese. The breading of the filet o fish was crispy, light, and herby. It was pretty tasty! It came with a side of fries that were on the well done side. They put the ketchup in a little jam jar that was quite difficult to dip into. The server came out with a easy to dip bowl of ketchup, which was really kind of her since I didn't mention anything about it. Overall, idk if this is worth $19 for, but it was not bad. My aunt had their $17 Ancient Grain Bowl, this contained avocado, farm egg, cremini mushrooms, Kale, tomatoes, harissa yogurt, and feta. Honestly it was a small portion, but plated beautifully. They gave two poached eggs on top. My aunt said the harissa yogurt was the star of the bowl. She also got herself a $12 glass-- which was tiny, as small as my fist. It had diff veggies, peppercorn, etc. Not for me. Even though it was a "superfood" juiced item, I don't agree with the price for the quantity given. The Waverly is a cute spot but their prices are absurd. They even had a menu for dogs and a simple pb, banana, and yogurt pupsicle was $9! The prices were between $9-15, for a DOG. One of my sisters had tried this place for breakfast before and enjoyed the food, so we decided to give it a try for dinner. Glad she made a reservation because it was a Saturday night and crowded. Open interior, dimly lit, with plenty of tables inside and out. Service with a friendly smile is always a plus! Their evening menu had quite a few selections, so we ordered several things to share. This is one of my favorite local spots. The food is delicious and love the vibe and decor. The inside is beautiful and they also have patio seating; however, this restaurant is located inside of a shopping center so this is by no means a private patio but a good spot to sit if you want an easy, fresh air vibe. For food, I have to say.. this isn't an Italian place specifically but their pasta is even better than a lot of my favorite Italian restaurants. Recently I've been ordering the agnolotti on repeat, which is house made with a perfect chew to the ricotta filled pasta paired with an amazing sauce. Love their happy hour options as well, one of my favorites is the pickled purple potatoes with creme fraiche... I was dreaming about these for a while after first trying them! Easy to come here for brunch in the am. Never had to wait to be seated. Lovely seating indoors or out on the patio. I really do love the umbrellas on the patio for a warm day. The Rosemary just left a refreshing taste but it was not strong. The matcha however was perfectly slightly sweet. My husband ordered the farm egg benedict and I had the Turkish poached eggs. Enjoyed a solid dinner at Waverly. We sat outside which was nice to enjoy the sunset. The server was very attentive for our whole meal which was nice. I started off with a glass of red that was recommended to me by the server. I asked for something less on the dry and tannin-y side and he made a good choice that fit what I wanted (I believe it was a Syrah or Syrah blend). We enjoyed the burrata donuts (not pictured) and they were delicious but particularly nothing outstanding. I ordered the cavatelli as my main which was very good in flavor and the portion was perfect. My boyfriend and I visited Waverly for the first time Sunday, June 14th, for brunch, with a reservation. I had called earlier that week inquiring about a corkage fee, as well as if there were any brunch drink/mimosa specials (like a bottle w juice type thing most brunch restaurants do on weekends). I was so discouraged by the hostess I almost cancelled my reservation. I purposely made sure to call at an "off time" so as to not be disruptive, and the best answer I got was "ummmm i think the corkage is $25." And to the mimosa question, "yeah I mean, we don't do bottomless but we have mimosas and I think we have a bottle special." So unhelpful- if she didn't know, she should confirm. I believe it was the same hostess when we dined, who, because we ended up seated right next to the dj (more minus points, who wants to be seated there, let alone when he is setting up, and while we made a reservation and were celebrating his birthday), moved us to outside at the front and we could see on her phone texting more than once. So, we sit. Taylor starts our order (very nice!), and we ask about drink specials, she cites of course we can have a bottle of mimosas. But there are no specials. So the bottle of prosecco is $63 plus $5 for orange juice. INSANE. But again, this is why I had called. Had the hostess shared there was nothing offered other than what was online, we coulda brought our own and paid corkage. Since we were led to believe otherwise, we had no alcohol and instead just had coffee. Cue Miles: he took over for Taylor almost immediately. He was AMAZING! So nice, so helpful, really accommodating and just the right amount of suggestions and check ins. Truly, amazing. As was the food. We had the ricotta, the french toast, and the Benedict. All were great. And great prices for the food too. The coffee came out lukewarm and had apparently been brewed quite awhile ago but Miles was happy to bring out fresh. I had put on the reservation that it was a birthday, and Taylor had asked if we were celebrating anything, and I told her it was my boyfriend's birthday, to which she eagerly explained they love celebrating birthdays at Waverly. Imagine my surprise when ultimately it was not again acknowledged or celebrated in any way. Perhaps because Miles took over for Taylor, but if it's on the reservation, you'd think I wouldn't have to address it again, much less multiple times. All in all, a very mixed review- there were some exceptional pieces of our experience (Miles, Taylor briefly, and the actual food), but there were a lot of misses too. I was skeptical of the food at first but once I tried both the caesar and kale salad, I was obsessed to say the least. The croutons on the caesar were amazing and the kale was very refreshing. We sat on the patio with a friend's dog and were very impressed at how dog-friendly this restaurant was. Waverly-branded water bowls, a dedicated dog menu (we got the cheddar bacon treats), and lots of other happy pups at other tables. We started with the funfetti pancakes which were delicious, but I would not recommend this item based on the portion size. This $13 pancake stack was gone in three bites, and marketed as a shareable starter- and also barely had maple syrup...I wish it came with a small side of syrup to pour over. I had the Turkish poached eggs which was good, but would have been better if the yogurt had herbs and bread was more of a charred, buttered sourdough vs an almost-stale white bread. My friend had the Caesar salad which she liked. Overall, I think the food here is good and I would come back, but little adjustments could make this a 5 star establishment! Small note about the parking- the lot is right next to the beach and they have lot attendants walking around, ticketing cars that are parked for longer than an hour to dissuade people from parking in the lot and spending all day at the beach. This guy hit us with not only the samples he said were comped but also a big service charge. I'm sorry guys. If you gave this place a good review, maybe you didn't check your bill. I've been to Waverly many times now and each time I have a great experience. The ambiance itself is fun, bright, and casual during the day, and a bit more sultry and moody at night but still energetic. The food is always delicious and portion sizes are decent as well. My recent favorites are the whipped ricotta and focaccia appetizer which is so flavorful and beautifully presented (though I do wish they provided more bread, its $3 charge for extra), and the salted caramel pudding which is my boyfriend's favorite dessert ever. The flaky sea salt on top really makes it a stand out dessert. Prices are a bit on the high side but to be expected in Cardiff. The service is always friendly and prompt as well. Another nice 4.5 star meal at Waverly (I forgot my phone at home so no new pictures from this visit!). They now take Open Table reservations, and I really appreciate that you can put in a request for a table outside. I would have preferred the back patio next to the parking lot (which has more atmosphere than the tables by the lawn and the other stores in the strip mall, where we were) but I'm glad we were still outside. It was a little hectic to check in tonight (because of people who had left the races?) but once we sat down everything was fine. And the hostesses were great even though they had a line. Things here are a bit pricey even for the area. Cocktails are normally $19-20. They had a special tonight for the races, Opening Day Mint Julep. A bargain for $10. I wasn't crazy about the presentation (crushed ice like a snow cone with mint), because I like sipping a whiskey drink from a glass, not using a straw, and otherwise the ice was piled too high to sip from. But I got an extra plate to push off some of the crushed ice and then I could sip it happily. It was tasty, a classic mint julep. Appetizers: I've been wanting to try the brussel sprouts cacio e pepe. But my sweetie smelled them as we passed another table and the smell bothered him - so he asked me to get something else LOL. I got the kale salad, which you can't go wrong with here. He got the burrata donuts, which again is a very good dish. I would have liked more choices for a pescatarian than the agnolotti (which I've had a few times) or the salmon (which looks very good but also very light, with no side dishes) or the whole snapper. They had a polenta and a seabass on recent menus but they're gone. My agnolotti was good as usual (not spectacular). The best course was dessert: the chocolate galette (=lava cake) with oreo ice cream & crumbles, and then the butterscotch pudding with caramel, were both spectacular. 5 stars for each. Omar was a nice server and the bussers did well too. A solid meal again though I'd love to see a little more variety over time and prices a few dollars cheaper on the apps and the cocktails would be welcome. read more
