Before I dive into the story, the short version is a 5 Star rating. Don't look elsewhere, just call Water Heater Masters! My husband discovered a small leak in the water heater on Wednesday morning. We immediately called our home warranty company. Hours later, the water heater company contacted by the Warranty company finally called, asked me to send pictures which I did. Keep in mind, the darn water heater is LEAKING and we made this clear. No further communication AT ALL either by return phone call or by text. By the next morning, the small leak in the water heater was significantly greater and soaking the sheetrock. Brian came out in 2 hours and told me I needed a new water heater. I was expecting this since the water heater is 21 years old so I was not surprised. I was initially very pleased by the service I received from Water Heater Masters. 2.5 weeks later, after returning from a trip, we went into the crawlspace and smelled gas. I immediately contacted PG & E, and they told us to get everyone out of the house and they would send someone to inspect asap. They had someone here within 30 minutes. Turns out that one of the valves on the new water heater wasn't tightened all the way and was leaking gas. Very lucky we caught it before there was an explosion. *Follow-up: On the same day that I posting this review and sent WHM an email, I received a phone call from Alex at 9:30 in the evening. He kept asking me why I didn't call WHM rather than PG&E. He said that they never had an opportunity to address the problem. Keep in mind that when we called P&GE we had no idea that it was the water heater that was causing the gas smell. It could have been the heater, gas fireplace, or stove. He told me that it was unlikely that the leak would have caused an explosion! It was a very unsettling phone call. He only apologized after I called him out the lack of a professional response, apology, and not taking responsibility poor workmanship. He reluctantly offered me a discount, but wouldn't say how much and said follow-up with me by the end of the week. He did not, and no discount hit my account. When I followed up by phone, he lied and said that he left me a voicemail the day after we spoke, and that his business partner had processed the discount. He didn't know how much the discount would be and had not way to look it up other than contacting his partner. Another unpleasant interaction. I initially paid $2600, and they gave me a $250 discount. The water heater they installed is for sale at big box stores for $900. Now the backstory - On Monday Sept 23, I realized something was wrong with my on-demand water heater as I was not getting hot water at my kitchen sink faucet. When I went to check the water heater, there was water leaking from the unit onto the wood floor of the external closet where it's located. It was installed by Valley Water Heating 12 years ago, so I called them and was told they could not be out to even inspect it until Thursday Sept 26th! Three days without hot water and a leaking unit!! Um, no! So I did some quick checking online and Water Heaters Masters had a LOT of great reviews...I decided to trust those reviews and called, speaking to Alex. At first he mentioned he may not be able to get someone out until Tuesday. In my mind I thought that was MUCH better than Thursday. Then he said, "Actually I've got a tech in Santa Clara who could come by the same day (Monday) to inspect it, assuring me it would not be able to be fixed that day. I was SO grateful to say the least!! Alex also put me on the schedule for Tuesday for the followup appointment. Jorge showed up that afternoon, inspected my water heater and explained the options. As for Water Heaters Masters, the installation was on time, quick and professionally done and the guys doing it were on time, clear in explanation left things tidy. And the price for all the work was fair. Here's where you learn how good a business is, when there's a glitch. Our Navien had a problem after about a year and change and it was a difficult one to diagnose. It took a few tries, but they were really persistent, easy to schedule and wouldn't quit till they solved it. This is the best follow up service I have ever had. If I could give Sam 10 stars, I would. I've had this same problem of low hot water pressure throughout the house for years. I called WHM and they sent Sam out within a couple hours. He spotted the name of the heater, and said he had seen this problem before. He got straight to work and a short time later, fixed it. Now all the pressure is perfect. (BTW, other companies wanted to replace the huge water heater, and wanted to upcharge me to bring 3 extra people to exchange the heaters up and down my stairway.
