Note: I'm not a sushi expert, so no bother here if you're a fish aficionado. Came on a Sunday early evening for a dinner with friends. The place was almost completely empty. We started off with some sake and appetizers. The edamame wasn't great. However, I did enjoy the veggie Gyoza and the tempura. We ordered a few different rolls and shared them, the cucumber wrapped roll was actually very good especially with the sauce. I got the Angel roll which was pretty good but I preferred the Broadway Roll more. The sushi to me tasted fresh and pretty flavorful. I did check in here and showed them to get a free sake but did not receive it. I didn't push on it because I was headed home for the evening anyways. read more

Was craving some sushi, and I was liking what they had for rolls. I wasnt that hungry, but I needed something for dinner. I opted for takeout and kept it simple. I got a Spicy White Tuna roll, Salmon Mango roll and a Salmon Tempura roll. $8 each. Not too bad. Each were pretty good. I think it was the spicy white tuna roll, that seemed to be a little chewy. Not sure if it was supposed to be dipped in batter and just wasnt cooked enough? Who knows. But the salmon tempura roll had a nice crunch to it. It definitely satisfied my craving. read more

Came here for all you can eat during a weekday lunch, it was $21.99 per person. My favorite was actually the chicken udon soup. All of the fish were fresh. The only thing that I would expect better was the tempura; it had too much batter and was not crunchy. Would definitely come again though! read more

The new owner has ruined this place. I used to come here with my family at least once every month or two. The service was great, the fish was fresh, and the food came quickly which matters when you have a 7 year-old in tow. We came in tonight and found that Wasabi had a new owner. The sushi chef we used to see was gone and replaced by 2 kids who were super slow. The new waiter clearly had never waited tables before and didn't even know the names of the sushi. The kitchen took almost a half hour to send out the soup. And we waited for our sushi while we watched the chefs prepare about 30 to-go orders before we finally complained. There are too many decent sushi places in north Brooklyn to waste your time and money on Wasabi under this new management. read more

I would say this place is a gem in the busy corner of Brooklyn. From the front store impression, it is a cozy Sushi restaurant with very personable service. I love the creative art that's on the front glass. As soon as you walk in, you can see 2 sushi chefs making on the spot so you know it's fresh stuff. During lunch, there are not many dine-ins, so that's a good time to go for me personally. Their menu is very good on the price and they give a lot! Their sushi rolls are creative flavors, and I'd try more. I didn't order the bento box, but I saw how much it was filled up. They pack a lot of food. Overall, I'd say good quality of good and good quantity, it is actually delicious. I'm not sure how busy it gets at night, but I'd say definitely recommend whether it's to-go or dine in. read more

Fresh, prepared correctly with the extras I requested(wasabi and soy sauce) I picked it up within 20 minutes of ordering and it was all ready. I ate here yesterday with my mom and had the two roll lunch special for $11. The middle-aged Japanese lady was very attentive and kind. We ordered a Philadelphia roll and a Shrimp Tempura roll. The salmon on the Philadelphia roll was very fresh and the shrimp tempura was very crisp and full of flavor. I really enjoyed both. It was a satisfying amount for two people but they also have a lunch special of three rolls for $15 which is such a great price for well done sushi. I give it five stars because I had the best salmon skin roll I have ever had and that is not easy to achieve even in a pricier fancy sushi restaurant. I often send them back and I've had a few good ones but never one as good as this one. I had mackerel sushi, it is often a miss in reputable places and it was delicate and flavorful. I had yellowtail, also delish and melted in my mouth. In the past I've gone in with several other people and ordered excessive amounts of sushi thinking of yummy leftovers but always finished till the last grain of rice. This is a typical Brooklyn establishment, simple and clean, no frills or kissy service. Expect good sushi, delicious and fresh without the excessive amount of rice or coverup saucy. They charge .50c for extras like spicy mayo and ponzu which I would gladly pay especially when the value you are getting is far more than what you are paying. read more

The workers were very rude and just made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable from the second we sat down. The woman started off with if you don't finish all you can eat sushi you will pay for the left overs. Then after that told us we're not allowed to share very rudely. This already ruined the stay and experience for us as it was my husbands birthday. Throughout the rest of the experience we just felt very unwelcomed there. Before continuing to read this, you need to know that I'm the type of diner that can appreciate being the only person in the restaurant (as long as there aren't hawkish wait staff around). I can deal with an empty eatery or one with a few patrons sprinkled inside. I think that's kind of cool. So that's one pro for Wasabi - there will be nights like that (especially during the week). Personally, I recommend eating there on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, when they have the free Sake deal with a dinner entre or half price Japanese beer. The sushi goes down well with alcohol. Actually, the sushi is decent - believe me, I've had much worse in the city. I haven't yet been disappointed with my entrees. The food came to the table fairly quickly and man oh man was it good! I don't know if it's because it's in Greene point but the seafood in this area is so fresh! Food is standard and totally fine. But if you're not a white person, probably best to order delivery (or better yet, order from elsewhere). I placed an order for pick up under my name. My husband, who is brown, went in to get it while I waited in the car. He told the middle-aged woman in the front that he was picking up a Grubhub order, under his wife's name, and stated both my name and the food order details. The woman told him he had to show proof on the app. We order on Grubhub multiple times a week and have never had a place say that, but she said she had no way of knowing if he would "take the food." When I went in, I showed the app and asked if they always require this level of scrutiny for takeout. The woman was shocked that I (a white woman) knew him, and said she thought he "worked for Uber Eats or DoorDash." Then it all made sense: Most husbands can probably pick up takeout in their wife's name (the SAME last name, btw)... except for brown husbands who are presumed to be delivery men. We had a groupon and chose not to say anything about it till the end based on previous reviews, but I don't think it would have made any difference in the great service we received. Halloween dinner, dressed up. We got a variety of things: the cucumber rolls were as expected, the avocado salad had a nice amount of avocado and I liked the dressing. The sweet potato rolls (fried sweet potato) were ok, but I wasn't in love. I got a tofu entree and that was very good. The sauce was nice, the tofu was cooked just right, and there was a LOT of it. We sat in the back, in the grotto, as my friends have dubbed it, which was quieter. Wasabi plays some 90s mix over the speakers, which ranged from a Wilson-Phillips-esque song to "Ice Ice Baby." When the latter came on, the front of the restaurant got rowdy, I got up to join them, the staff turned up the volume, and we all boogied down. There's a sign in the restroom that you can't flush anything. Ok, but then the trash needs to be emptied before toilet paper is falling out of it. Ew. read more

This restaurant is perfect. $12 sushi combo for 2 rolls, salad, & miso soup, soft rock from the 1990s to the present playing on the loudspeaker, fresh avocado, plants everywhere, accessible outlets if you need to charge your phone, lovely calm proprietor with a sense of humor. Currently sitting here in a sunny spot near the front, about to cry because I'm having such a nice time. Granted I am a little touched, but I think normal people will have a lovely time here too.
