By first appearance this place is already interesting. At first I wasn't sure if they had Spanish food or Japanese food, but it's a little of both. The music was great, the atmosphere was great, and the food was perfect. The tacos come with Non-GMO flour tortillas separate from the filling so it's not soggy by time you decide to eat it. Went to this new place in bed stuy tonight. The Japanese dishes were fantastic. The miso soup was perfect and the brown rice had the right texture (chewy but not at all hard) Another highlight was the gyoza . Crispy and hot. We also tried the tacos and they were very tasty too. I really like the concept of Warude-- cool Korean with a twist in Bedstuy. They have vegetarian options which totally caters to the BK hipster crowd who want Korean food but don't eat meat. I ordered a fish taco and the okra & eggplant rice bowl. I loved the fish taco! The fish was perfectly hot and crispy on the outside with delicious white fish on the inside. Topped with shredded cabbage and sauce. You could add salad verde that they had which added a little more of a kick. Yum! So good! I love okra and eggplant in general so anything with they will get ordered but when I saw them on the menu together there was no need to look further. I honestly didn't like this dish though. It was covered with a gelatinous flavorless sauce that I thought was gross. It covered my rice and basically I tried to eat all the vegetables and eat as much rice not covered in it. My husband got a similar dish with vegetables and an egg and seemed to like it. I saw some other things on the menu that caught my eye including the kale salad which sounded yummy as described. Tompkins is always a vibe. I never stopped by here until now. Tacos are like $5 and the line was constantly moving so I decided to slide in. I got a fried chicken taco and a salmon taco. I gotta be real...I'm from the south so I'm funny bout my chicken. They fried it so hard I could barely chew it. It had flavor but like generic flavor. The salmon was much better. Would I go back just to try something different, probably. But it would just be because it's cheap and fairly good depending on what you get. This place was a little confusing at first. Mostly because I was at that staving point where it's hard to make decisions when I stumbled upon it. And it offered BOTH of my two favorite types of food. But oh what a delicious discovery. Somehow it blends 2-3 worlds into one happy place. It has healthy Japanese bowls of all sorts, amazing traditional and non traditional tacos, good coffee drinks, and beer. It's has sidewalk seating and a roll up door which keeps the inside breezy and shady on a scorching hot day. The Caribbean / Latin music playing adds to the fun colorful vibe. The food is great! I had the Warude Bowl which is a mix of rice, miso, & daily special treats. I added the teriyaki chicken which was amazing. Crispy skin, tender meat and the perfect flavor. I usually pour on extra terriyaki sauce. But there was no need today. It was some of the best terriyaki I've ever had. My wife had 2 tacos which she loved. 2 of the non traditional kind; Chicken skin, and banana chocolate!? Ha ha. Literally one of the best places to get a taco in the neighborhood. I personally prefer the fried chicken skin taco. Also try the amazing cod fish horseradish dip with the chips! New Japanese fusion place in Bedstuy that had me going back the NEXT DAY for that raw tuna sandwich tostada. I finally understand what ODB was talking about when he said "baby I like it raw," and I completely agree. Other highlights are the kale salad and chicken tortilla soup. They also have a full espresso bar or you can get a matcha latte and breakfast taco to warm you up on your morning commute. Hands down must try! After living in Japan for 6 years I was really excited to have a Japanese-owned restaurant in the neighborhood. The design of the store is very cool and was a refreshingly bright spot in to eat compared to other places in the neighborhood. It was a bit confusing at first where to enter and order as the layout looks as if Japanese food is one side and tacos are the other, but actually they are both the same side. I had the Teriyaki Chicken bowl and the Chicken Mole tacos. I was most excited for the bowl as it was made by Japanese people and I was expecting something more authentic to what I had when I lived there. It was, however, a bit lackluster. It seemed as if they forgot to add the teriyaki sauce. It was dry and didn't really have a flavor. I had to put soy sauce on it, which is something I usually hate to do. Definitely not worth $14. The tacos had a great flavor but were very small for the price ($5). I also had an iced matcha latte which was reasonably priced and pretty tasty. I would probably go back for coffee but not for food. Too pricey for what you get. read more

Man, Bedstuy is a damn fine cornucopia of cultural diversity. Where else can you find a small Japanese-owned and operated restaurant that serves little bento bowls and tacos next to a community cultural centers/craft store that's across from a cozy little wine and spirits store? Warude is small at first glance, but the main front wall opens up via a garage-style door, allowing patrons to enjoy sitting outside with their dogs. They have a counter for you to order from, with two menu sides - one for tacos and one for Japanese-style rice bowls. Most everything on the menu is organic and made in-house. We were just a day shy of their taco side grand opening the day we were there, sad news. We ended up getting the salmon bowl, the teriyaki chicken bowl, and the chicken wings. All three were prett-ay delicious. The wings were the most interesting wings I have had thus far. Thicker fluffy breading with a lot of flavor in the batter. Not a whole lot of meat on the wing bones, but eh, it's easily forgiven because all the other food and flavors were so good. I want to like warude, I've spent a lot of money here trying to find something to like here but the food is mostly mid-sometimes gross even. Their rice bowls are often mushy and flavorless (I've had to drown them in sriracha and soy sauce). I was thrown by the curry- expecting Japanese curry and it tasted like molé which was very odd.
