This was a decent sushi place. It wasn't busy at all when we went in. The server was nice and attentive. The rolls were really good. We tried some unconditional special rolls. Some with cheese on top and baked.. I was hesitant at first, but it ended up very tasty! We got spicy mayo with our rolls and it wasn't what I was used to. They mix it with hot sauce making it extra spicy - not my forte, but my boyfriend loved it! I'm sure we'll be back defini here again for another date night. read more

My husband and I love coming to Waraii. Been coming here for years. Definitely recommend this place for good quality sushi. Not only is the food always consistent and delicious, the staff and atmosphere are just as great. Our go-to items are the Protein Roll, Lemon Flash Roll and the beef yakiudon, but honestly everything is on point. Pictured here is the Pink Lady, which is sooo good. And of course getting some large Sapporo's is a must We also like to bring our dogs and chill outside, which they'll bring out waters for them every time without us asking. Overall, 10/10 read more

Only the BEST sushi in North County!!!! My go to favorites are the ichi roll & the Alaskan! We come here at least once every two weeks! Love love love! Service is great. Food is fresh and delicious. The ambiance is a fun and the sushi chef James, is funny, inviting and they always tell you "see you tomorrow!" Very loud and funny. This is my go to sushi spot because some of their specialty rolls are some of the best I've ever had. There's a lemon roll that's outstanding! read more

What a great little sushi spot! Super friendly service in a cozy restaurant but plenty of seating. Nice menu, a lot of choices, dozens of rolls and ramen and bento boxes. Great combos, good quality sushi. I'll definitely be back, although the parking lot in this block is always annoying. read more

My friends and I came here to check out a new sushi place. The service was good. The place has seating for maybe 30. Our sushi was good but not outstanding. One on the nagiri items I purchased was scallops. The scallops were ok, but not great. They were the tiny thumbnail size instead of slices of nice fresh, large scallops. It's not a bad place, just needs a little refinement. read more

Let me start off with, I Love Sushi!!! So much it makes me so happy. This place was a HUGE let down, we came here after the reviews and a wait for our first restaurant choice. The bathrooms were a mess. I almost left after using them, my husband promised a grilled cheese at home if we stayed. We sat at the very back and could see into the kitchen/dish area not very appeasing to be next to. Definitely could've added a door or whole curtain. So we went on and ordered the deep fried spicy tuna roll, it was okay definitely very fishy in taste. The Auntie Mary roll, super disappointing. I'm fairly certain the California roll on bottom was refrigerated because of how cold it was and the rice wasn't fresh. The crawfish on top was overly coated and tasted of oil.... The best thing we ordered was the Ramen tonkotsu with pork. The pork was super tender everything else wasn't anything special. We won't be going back, that's us. We always stop and get sushi here. I just wanted to give them another star. Lately they have been performing better and the quality is way better. I notice this especially in the hand rolls. It's not just all rice anymore. The price is still kinda over priced for what I've tasted but still good. Real fast with service too and staff is friendly. Even to go orders are made with care. So still great! read more

Amazing lunch as always, especially now that we are able to enjoy sitting on their patio. One of the dishes, that I usually order didn't come out as it was usually prepared. But the owner was so kind to come out speak to us and gave us 50% off the whole meal. The service was pleasant and attentive throughout the meal. I typically order take out or delivery, but I may have to come and enjoy their amazing food out in the sun more often. read more

We stopped in here for the first time on Friday for lunch. We had the Golden Cali, the Lovely Gloria, the Teriyaki Beef bowl and the lunch Sashimi platter (six assorted fish with miso soup, salad and a Spicy Tuna Roll), along with a pitcher a Sapporo ($14) and some hot sake. Everything was very good but my favorite was the Golden Cali. Wow that was good. I want to try the Aloha roll next since it's "#1" on their little list of the top ten rolls. Service was okay, but a little slow. A couple of times our server forgot to bring out things we asked for (napkins, extra chopsticks and our hot sake). Food is a little pricey I think. Total came out to $70 with tip but we had a lot of stuff and it wasn't happy hour (do they even have a happy hour? I don't think so) The layout of the restaurant is a little strange due to how narrow the space is. But they had TVs and music playing in the background which is nice. I don't like visiting places that are super quiet...feels like going to church. I'd return to Waraii. I think they might just have the best rolls around here (compared to Go Go and Sushi4Reel). Haven't tried Cafe de Thai's sushi yet (they are right around the corner) so we'll have to try that next but for me right now Waraii gets 4/5 stars (minus one for odd layout and slower-than-necessary service, and plus four for the SUSHI). read more

Delicious! Ordered shrimp and vegetable tempura appetizer and everything was so crispy and delightful despite it being boxed for takeout. The California roll and beef bulgogi we ordered were also so tasty. Two thumbs way up! Would also like to comment on the service. A+ in a time when that's hard to find. I initially ordered the tempura and roll separately and the nice young man said he would make it a combo to save me some money. They are also taking every Covid precaution and care about keeping their staff, customers and community safe. Thank you Waraii Sushi. We'll be back. read more

This used to be our favorite sushi joint to come to since it's close and easy for us to get to, not to mention the food is pretty good for the price. Today however, they lost my business and I'll start looking for a new place to take the family to when we want sushi. I placed and paid for an online to-go order almost 3 hours prior to my scheduled pick-up time, but when I arrived they hadn't even started to make my order. It's not like they were waiting for me to get there and pay before they prepared the food like some places do since I paid online. They straight up dropped the ball and missed the order. They're great at greeting you and telling you they'll see you tomorrow when you leave. Maybe focus more on actually preparing food than saying Hi and Bye.....just a thought? Instead of waiting another 30 minutes for them to put the order together, I had them just cancel the order and had to figure out something else to bring back home to my family. I will now take my business elsewhere which is disappointing as I did enjoy the food here. read more

Mediocre sushi. The relatively small slices of tuna on top were ok, and I really like the ginger sauce. However, the rolls were small for the price, and all rolls have cucumber even when not mentioned in the description. I have severe indigestion with cucumber so I like to choose rolls without it versus having to poke it out. The rice or seaweed tasted old or just off. I just ate the topper fish. I ordered the cream cheese wontons and they were equally disappointing. Dry inside and not folded the right way. They almost seemed to have been baked. read more

It's very unfortunate. Been coming here for years. This place used to be pretty good. The cuts of fish have gotten very thin, and rolls are smaller, compared to what they used to be, but the prices have gone up. Now a days, it's sticky tables, watching a bunch of to-go orders get taken care of while you wait at a table without even a menu to look at. Long wait to order at the table. Seems like they are more likely to take good care of a to-go order than someone that physically shows up to enjoy a meal. Sorry to say, but after coming here for years, I have deleted my good review and ended my being a customer on this one. With so much competition in sushi places, you gotta keep up quality and service. read more

I dig this spot. It's a great local spot for some decent rolls. True to it's name, the Albacore Delight roll is pretty good. Lemon Flash roll with the salmon and lemon combo is another one of my favorites. One of the better sushi joints in Oceanside. read more

My favorite sushi place for years, pretty much since it opened in its previous smaller location. The quality, taste, and freshness is always consistent. I don't even live in Oceanside anymore but whenever I'm close I make an effort to stop by. The Lovely Gloria is bomb and I don't even like tuna that much. There's definitely been quite the rotation of waitresses here, but service has been decent as far as I can remember. Come give them a try, I think this place deserves a lot more business than I've seen recently. P.S. the sushi chef(s) are always really sweet! read more

There is better sushi around. My issue was the amount of fish on the rolls. The rainbow roll had the thinnest pieces of meat I've ever had on a roll. The salmon sliver literally broke in half when I pulled it off the top of the roll to get a better look. The ratio of Krab to eel in the caterpillar was about 9 parts Krab to 1 part eel. Salmon skin hand roll had the least amount of salmon skin for one of the pricier ss hand rolls I've had. One and done for this place. read more

We OFTEN get sushi at Waraii. It is our go to for a great meal. My husband loves the Dragon Roll and we usually share a bright and lively lemon roll. This place does not deserve 4 stars. Being surrounded by sushi restaurants all my life, I have a sort of pallet for what quality fish and freshness should be and this place is just not it. A few major things to note: 1. The wasabi is so weak, like I had to request a blob of it to just give my sushi a kick. 2. The quality of the fish did not taste light and buttery, but dense and not fresh which means it's old. 3. The rice was super hard and just made everything taste mediocre. I was very underwhelmed and don't think I would ever return. I just think I've had better even at an all you can eat sushi joint. read more

I absolutely love this place. This is my favorite sushi place in Oceanside. Been here about 6 or 7 times & I have never been disappointed. Last weekend when I was here it did take a little longer for the food. But my my boyfriend & I weren't getting out panties in a bunch because we know it's amazing food & is worth the wait. They have a ton of to go orders & packed house on weekends. But don't fret, my friends, you will fully satisfied by the end. My favorite rolls: Golden Crunch, Lovely Gloria, Golden California. Chill environment, great staff, delicious food, affordable price. - what more could you ask for?? Plus their lunch special is amazing. You get two 6 piece specialty rolls, miso soup, & a salad. In August, I left this place a 2-star review because my visit started with a hostess wordlessly, rudely dropping the menus as she whisked by and ended with the waitress bringing me the wrong pork meal. (I will admit I came with the dinner rush so it was very busy that day). Also, for the prices, I vented that rolls should have had crab not krab. It was very hard to find real crab on the menu. The business owner, Kimin K, messaged me not long after, not only with a sincere apology, but resolutions to my gripes. This included retraining staff on customer service and tweaking the menu a bit. Just, wow. I really appreciated the feedback, so I decided to delete that review and give Waraii another chance. Fast forward three months. I came for lunch today, and Ana, my hostess and server, enthusiastically made me feel very welcome. My water glass stayed full this time, and she checked up on me numerous times...something the previous server did not do. When I asked for more ginger, the kitchen gave me a generous mound in a little bowl lol. Even the Sushi Chef greeted me today. It seemed like everyone was on-board with making customers happy! Sushi Lunch Specials include weekends, so I happily ordered the 3-hand roll combo plate. It came with miso soup and a salad. The miso was so much better this time! The broth was hot and flavorful. There was even kombu in it, I think. Well, it had something dark green anyway haha. The salad came with just enough of a bright orange, gingery dressing. Too many restaurants are heavy-handed with their dressings. Oh, and I was surprised to see dark leafy greens hiding under the bits of iceberg. For the rolls, I chose 2 salmon skin and 1 tuna. The salmon skin had a bit of meat on it still, and it added a varying texture to the roll. Sushi rice gave a nice sweetness. I would totally order this again, even though it has krab lol (I mean, it's great for the price- around 12$ for 3 courses). The krab is not fishy here! The tuna hand roll had big chunks of bright, super-fresh fish. It literally melted in my mouth. This little restaurant gives off a bright, upbeat vibe. There's two closed-captioned televisions going as well as music. Lots of white, orange, shiny metal. Most every seat is comfy because it's basically all booths. Overall, I look forward to returning and bringing friends. I want to experience dinner again, and I will add that to this review. Downside is that the backroom is very noisy along with again being dark. Could hear the conversations from all tables around us. Best to avoid sitting in the middle tables...lots of kitchen traffic and noise

The fish is fresh, the flavors are well-balanced, and the presentation is always nice. We used to come more often when they offered happy hour specials, which made the pricing feel more reasonable. Since they removed happy hour, it's become more of an occasional treat. For reference, my husband and I typically share three rolls at lunch and it comes out to around $80, with most rolls priced at $20+. We still enjoy coming here and would recommend it, but we do wish they offered a lunch or happy hour menu like some of the other sushi spots nearby to make it easier to visit more often.

If you get a drink at the bar, you can sit at those tables. They had a big screen with the padre game on, no sound. I love tonkatsu, so I will say yes anytime anyone in San Diego wants to get ramen. I would say Gonzo does the toppings very well. The highlight was the chashu. The broth flavor was great, very deep, but personally I like mine a bit thicker, 8/10. If you like a thinner tonkatsu, this may be your favorite. The noodles were also very firm. When they brought our bowls, they offered a few extra sauces to make it spicier, they aren't just on the table. The staff was all very friendly and provided great service. My test is to always order saba (mackeral) nigiri. The condition of the saba always tells me if a sushi spot is legit or not. If it looks dry or tastes reel fishy...RUN!!!!! Our family go to order... Wife - Usually a sushi roll or 2 and sometimes the Pad Thai. (excellent). Me - The Kelly Roll and yellow curry with chicken (spicy level - 8) Ya I know. The plaza has limited parking, but it isn't typically too crowded and you should be able to find parking in front of this family-owned ramen restaurant. They have a quaint and trendy ambiance and they placed a lot of care into their anime murals, which lends to a "whimsical" vibe. It's a nice blend of traditional elements & colors and modern (kawaii) accents. The interior is also spacious and has great seating for groups and is also good for couples too. Enjoy table seating or better-yet at their bar seating and you can chat with the friendly staff! They have a "staple menu" that is written in chalk on a board and then there's their menu that is very diverse. They also have a great Happy Hour menu with items priced below $8, including sake! I enjoy their pan-fried gyoza, salted edamame, miso soup, firecracker shrimp, fried calamari, chicken karaage and most other delicious dishes. Their sushi menu is also high quality grade and I feel is often overlooked and underrated. But their ramen is what shines the most! There are so many styles & varieties! There's a lot to customize and their broth is amazing! There are many tasty bowls, desserts and don't forget to grab a sake or a craft beer! I recommend checking Wu Lan Ramen the next time you're looking for some authentic ramen or sushi in the north side of Oceanside.
