This place is the quintessential of old school diners you get to actually sit at the counter and watch the cooks make breakfast. We were greeted and sat coffee in front of us and our order taken within record time. The food was delivered just as ordered hot and fresh. My girlfriend and I went to Walt's Diner today Tuesday 8/28/18. The server Kelsey (hope I spelled it right) was phenomenal. She was very friendly and helped with elevating my grilled cheese sandwich order to the awesome mouth watering marvel that was the best grilled cheese sandwich I have ever had in my life. Stopped here for breakfast prior to our long drive home. It was pretty busy (4th of July), so we decided to grab a seat at the breakfast bar. Unfortunately, when our waitress came over, we were informed that they were no longer serving breakfast, as of 11:30 am. It was 11:33, and we surely arrived a couple of minutes prior to 11:30. We were so disappointed, because we were craving breakfast! The worst part was that we sat right where all the food was prepared and waiting for the waitresses to come and pick up to deliver to the tables. So for the next 20+ minutes we watched breakfast item, after breakfast item come out :( We decided to order turkey club sandwiches. The service here stinks. I saw my waitress when she took my order, then 30 minutes later when she finally brought us food, that's it. We had to ask for service from another waitress. This place used to be really good, but it's taken a downhill turn. For no discernible reason, the only way to get water is to buy an overpriced bottle of it. The place has been there for ages and this "pay for your water" was a new trick this year. Guessing it's a way to pump up their income, but it's not ok. The food is decent, big breakfast. Gets pricey quickly if you don't go for one of their set meals, all of which include eggs which I never want. Waitresses, in our experience, are nice and moving fast all the time. We've been visiting Old Forge for decades and used to be big fans of Walt's. On our last visit, we skipped it altogether in favor of the better, and slightly cheaper, Front Door Diner down the street. Walt's is perfectly fine, just go for the coffee instead of water if you can. And, really, if there's line? Head down the street. It's not really worth waiting for. read more

Went there for lunch and was disappointed to find a very limited menu. Decided to try and make the most of it. Ordered a cheese burger and was dismayed to see that lettuce and tomato would be an additional $1.50 up charge onto a $6.50 burger that includes only chips. Decided to still make a go of it. Unfortunately the burger was flavorless on a soft bun/roll. My date had a tuna melt and she said it was standard. This place gets three stars because we were able to sit outside and enjoy watching the old forge buzz and because the waitress was very nice and sweet. Solid Adirondack diner in the Old Forge downtown, serving typical diner fare. Atmosphere at the diner counter was friendly and lively, staff made me feel welcome even though I was traveling alone and probably clearly not a regular. Followed a yelp recommendation to try the blueberry oatmeal and it was very good. Went for breakfast two days in a row! Pancakes are both HUGE (entire size of the plate) but delicious too! Food was good, came out quick and service was great. Great pancakes here! Got blueberry & chocolate chip! So many chocolate chip pieces! You get a table pretty fast! Side door has more storage for helmets and gloves etc. but there was some room at the front door. Great food! Come eat here! While I normally would write off bad service to how busy it was, we watched the waitresses refill coffee at every other table around us but ours, ignore us unless we flagged them down to ask for a water or a box, and were all around rude and dismissive of us. We stopped at Walt's because we saw the outside seating. We had our dog with us and were hoping they would allow him in the outside seating area. They said as long as he was friendly they were fine with him at our table. The food was very good, the French Fries were hand cut and were delicious! All of the desserts were homemade. The peach cobbler was excellent. The service was good, the town was Busy so the parking was difficult. If you're traveling with a friendly DOG at least you have an option in Old Forge to eat and do a little shopping. read more

Hit and a miss. Lunch was good to not great. Clam chowder was good, house salad needed a bigger bowl messy to cut and eat. Chicken tender were Dairy Queen quality not fresh made, waitress was superb. I have to disagree w/the first review. My family and I have stopped at Walt's every year since they first opened 18 years ago.Fantastic homemade desserts and huge family staff! You will not find a more comfortable setting with fantastic prices and kid friendly as well!! The 10 of us eat Breakfast every year for under $100.00. Go somewhere else and TRY to find pancakes, omelets, wraps, soups or homemade food like you find at Walts! All of the staff is extreamly friendly. We give you 5 STARS!
