A classic Adirondack restaurant that has changed their menu in recent years. I went here for the first time over 10 years ago and enjoyed it and we enjoyed it this time too. We were a party of 11 and they happily put 3 tables together for us. Our waiter was very friendly, accommodating and professional. There was something for everyone on our party. I had the prime rib on a wick roll. The meat was a little well done for my taste but otherwise good. It came with homemade chips and of course aus jus. I tried a bite of the pork Schnitzel sandwich it was served with pepper Jack cheese and onion, bacon jam, very savory. My niece had an ahi tuna and seaweed plate and my cousin had the flat iron steak. It was cooked to his liking. The fries were homemade and crispy. This is solid American food that we all enjoyed at a decent price for a "nicer" restaurant in the area. They aren't reinventing the wheel but it's a pleasant setting with good staff and decent food. read more

I was super happy about our decision to go here for dinner!!! Soooo good! I had chick parm wings, my dad had the shrimp sambuca which I tried and it was sooooooooo gooooooood! He ate the whole thing! Arrived Sunday with 3adults, 3 children. Dining room closed so bar and porch area open. Sat immediately. Took twenty minute for a server(not servers fault only two servers to wait tables, bus, and bar). Due to pos problem orders not into kitchen. 7 tables whom arrived well after us all served and departed. Took 1 hour and 45 minute from order to food. Pretty sad no leadership on site or offer to discount the tab just a we're sorry we had problems. Food was amazing but keeping three young kids occupied was difficult. read more

Would very much recommend this restaurant for a delicious meal and a good time. Wonderful view of the Moose River from the patio with a beautiful sunset! Tim the bartender serves up a perfectly balanced Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita and the Downeast Blackberry Cider hit the spot on a warm day. Used to love going to the old mill as a kid with the big pot of soup and salad, but this has sadly changed. It has been years since I've visited, so I'm not sure when the changes occurred. We went to the hostess station to wait, and noticed a party ahead of us, no big deal. But the waiting area is small, so we tried to move out of the way. The hostess was nowhere to be found for at least 5 minutes. While we waited, another group came in behind us. When the hostess finally came back to her station, she took down the other party's info before ours. Okay, we won't fuss. We decided to go out to the bar area to get a drink and wait for our table. We looked over the menu. The bartender was very nice and accommodating. When our table was finally ready, it was pretty clear they were short staffed. The porch dining was quite full, but the dining room inside wasn't anywhere near capacity. However, it seemed there were only 2 servers on. We sat for quite awhile before our server came over. We even overheard the hostess asking if he had forgotten about us. He had. Once he came over, the meal was quite pleasant. We started with the deep fried deviled eggs, which were good. The prime rib was very good. Our kid's pot roast was very good. Husband said his prime rib sandwich was less than exciting and thought the fries were better. It was just a piece of meat between 2 slices of decent bread. Thought it was weird there was nothing else on it. Prices were a bit high for what it was. All in all, the food was pretty good and service wasn't bad once we got some. I do miss the old mill, but this one might not be bad after working out the kinks. read more

Ok, so I have gone to this restaurant since I was a child with my parents every year almost. It is now the mill not the old mill. They don't do the all you can eat soup and salad anymore BUT the food is THE BEST I have had in town ALLLLLL week. COVID has really hit here hard for restaurants and this place has fought it off well! We had chicken parm and the steak. comes with hot bread and like a cinnamon butter. All was beautifully done. Tried a reopened restaurant that I used to go to before it closed several years ago. Had the 1/2 rack rib special, the frys were amazing hand cut so thin. The ribs were fall off the bone tender, unfortunately they were extremely spicy. They burned my mouth so bad I had to have a 2nd vodka collins. Well I was able to eat three and I brought the other 4 home to try to scrape off the spicy rub and add some sweet baby ray. I would not normally do this but those ribs were so tender. read more

Now under new management (as of fall 2019) with a new name (The Mill). This is definitely an improvement on what the previous owners offered, as they were not so much interested in being restauranteurs as they were snapping up any available property in Thendara. I had never been to The Old Mill when it used to be the "fancy" restaurant in town, so I can't compare my experience to that, but it has certainly improved since last year. ANYWAY. Service was excellent. Our party of seven, five adults and two children, were seated in the bar area immediately. The ambiance is very comfortable and cozy. TVs over the bar, but not noisy or distracting. The fireplace was cranking (be careful if you have little ones running around) and the space was warm and inviting. Our server took drink orders right away and came back promptly to get dinner orders started. Our group got the prime rib special and black and blue salads, as well as lobster bisque to start. The soup was the only low light of the experience. Of course a bisque is going to be creamy, but this honestly felt like I was drinking straight up heavy cream from a bowl. There were very generous and fresh tasting lobster chunks in it, though. The prime rib was HUGE and juicy. Steak in the salad was lightly seasoned and complimented the veggies well. Started out at the bar where the bartender was friendly, knowledgeable and provided great service. She offered tips on which meals to get and which ones she likes. The bar area is bright and open and very Adirondack-esque. We were seated indoors but when we asked the host if we could switch to an outdoor table, he hustled to prepare one for us & happily re-seated us. We really appreciated that!! Food was excellent. We had several apps & entrees- loved the chicken francaise. Brussels sprouts were so good. Steak was prepared perfectly. The food and service were great! we were a group of 8 and they split us up to two tables of four, which was fine. they did an amazing job complying with social distancing and masks. we asked at the bar if we could get drinks while waiting to be seated. the bartender was super friendly but said he couldn't serve us any until we had food. which while may seem like an inconvenience, made us feel very safe. our table was freshly cleaned when we sat down. a couple times people tried to come in without masks on and they promptly took care of the situation subtly and calmly. Our waitress did forget one of our drinks, but upon a reminder the drink was immediately brought. The food was amazing, they had a lobster mac and cheese special that is delicious. they have homemade potato chips too which was a nice surprise. We weren't sure what to expect as we knew the old mill under different management, but we were pleasantly surprised. while a few changes have been made, the soul and homey feel of the restaurant can not be altered! This is by far my favorite restaurant we tried while visiting Old Forge. It was nice weather out so we sat outside on the front patio. You get a decent view of Moose River from the patio. A little noisy from the cars driving by but we didn't mind. We had the fried deviled eggs and stuffed portobello as an appetizer. The eggs were good to share and very flavorful. For entrees our table got the roasted duck special that was AMAZING. It was cooked perfectly and the skin nice and crispy. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich was large and had a nice spicy kick to it. The chicken wings were crispy and the sauces we tried had a good flavor. They have a kids menu too, so the kids were able to pick their meals too. Every employee we interacted with was super nice and we really enjoyed our time there. I would recommend The Mill to anyone looking for a good meal and great service In Old Forge. read more

The Old Mill is back! Had a fantastic meal with my parents and friends Saint Patrick's Day weekend. My dad had the corned beef and cabbage which was tender and juicy. I had the stuffed chicken with orzo which was delicious. Our friends had the shepherd's pie, and my mom had the beet salad with endives. Service was also fantastic. We sat in the bar area which is newly renovated. Snowmobile friendly. Highly recommend next time you're in Old Forge. read more

This place was outstanding. I only ate and drank there one night and that is a personal failure during this set of travels. The lady next to me had the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich - it was giant. I had a pork schnitzel sandwich that was outstanding. The wife had the lobster tacos which were tasty but within the realm of seafood/fish tacos. This place is my new favorite restaurant in the ADK. We went there with a large group (about 18-22 adults). The bartender and part owner Adam was super friendly and more than accommodating. The atmosphere is incredible from the live edge wood tables to all the ADK decor on the walls and massive fire place. The drinks were well made and Delicious!! The food came reasonably quick and accurate (impressive for that large of a group). Everyone raved about their food especially the burgers. I myself ordered a southwest jalapeno burger and it was amazing. I can't wait to go back!!! read more

This was a definite find. We were on a casual drive through the Adirondacks when we were surprised to see deer grazing on the grass in the middle of town. We decided that we were hungry too and drove through the town to see what our options were. We chose The Old Mill Restaurant since it looked like it had a lot of character. It is very rustic inside and outside. Soup and salad are served family style and while there were only two of us there was enough for four. Be sure to try the French Onion soup. The bread was fresh and delicious too. Entree portions were large enough to send us home with a second serving for the next day. Entrees were also very flavorful and beef was cooked exactly to the degree requested. This is a very family friendly restaurant so expect to hear some happy kids nearby. If you want to be sure of a more quiet dining experience, you might want to ask about dining in the lounge/bar area. Service was friendly and efficient. We'll definitely want to dine here again if we're driving through town. read more

The moment we stepped into doorway, we should have turned back around and left. Hostess said there would be approximately a 15 minute wait which turned into an hour. We watched people leave but there was no one seated for about 30 minutes. Finally get a seat and menus; hostess sat 3 others groups after us. We watched the wait staff go to each of the other tables even though we were the 1st to be seated. Finally the staff asks for drink orders and we had plenty of time to decide from the menu, only to be told 3 items had already been sold out. The food was fine, I've had better, but the kicker was when paying the bill, they charged our charge card for our meals and the table next to us on one charge card. The bill was delivered back to us without the return of the card. When we caught their error, it was fixed but by that point, my mind was made up. I won't return. Been to old forge many times but this was our first time eating at The Mill. It did not disappoint. The food was delicious and couldn't have asked for better service. Our party had the steak, ribs, lobster bisque, chicken wings, and stuffed mushrooms. It all looked mouthwatering, I did not hear one complaint. We will definitely be returning customers. read more

The restaurant has reopened and is pretty great. Delish chicken fingers and really great corn chowder. Friends of ours had chicken sambuca and said it was killer as well. Looking for a restaurant on a Sunday night we came across the Old Mill. Situated on the Moose River, it provided a wonderful dinner for five and a gorgeous sunset. By looking at the other reviews on Yelp it seems that after the remake of the restaurant and re-opening they have stepped it up a notch. We couldn't agree more. A wonderful stuffed pork chop, pot roast platter and three burgers later we were stuffed to the gills. The service was great. We sat out on the porch and got to see the sunset over the river. If you gave this place a try in previous season and thought, "Ehhhh", try it again. The new owners have done a great job. read more
