This is our second time and the food has yet to disappoint. My husband ordered the maple mule and he said it was very good. We started with the poutine and it was great! All the ingredients tasted fresh, and there was a ton of gravy. Next, we ordered the steak tacos and the fish tacos. Unfortunately our tacos fell apart half way through. We ate them with a fork and they were just as good. The fish had a great batter, and the steak was tender. This came with corn and bean salsa. My only complain is, the restaurant and bar were almost empty so we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was not attentive. We were finished for almost 15 minutes before he checked on us. We were ready to go and had to wait awhile. This happened when we were here the last time, too. If he service was as good as the food, I would give it a 5:5. read more

Came for lunch recently and was delighted to see what they've done with the space since North Woods became Great Pines. The elegant yet rustic decor evokes the name, plus there's a gorgeous wood slab bar and great view of Fourth Lake. My boyfriend and I both ordered the Lean-To Burger and agreed that it was phenomenal. It was thick, juicy, and cooked just right with a flame-broiled taste. Add on gooey white cheddar, fresh romaine, and the addition of some crispy bacon...A+ The "Sidewinder Fries" ($2 extra) were a unique presentation - short, flat, spirals with a nice overall crispness. The Lean-To is cozy, inviting, classy, and has a well-balanced menu with interesting cocktails. Will return! read more

My fiance and I came here for a drink and bar snacks because nothing else in town was open at 7 PM on a Saturday (off season). The restaurant/ bar area itself is cute and very woodsy. They had a decent beer selection. We decided to order poutine and it was good, but nothing to write home about. We have a camp in Inlet, NewYork and visit the restaurants at Great Pines. In 2021 the formal dining room is closed, but the Lean-To has upped its menu a bit to compensate. The food is consistently good and satisfying. Earlier his week we ate at "The Greenhouse", which is on the dock on Fourth Lake. We had tried to secure a reservation last year without success. This year's meal was well worth the wait. Our vegan friends were accommodated in style with interesting salads, pasta, grains and nuts. Each of the three servings were different and well-received. Our dinner started with a scallops ceviche served with a spicy sauce that complimented the marinade. Our main was perfectly cooked salmon, with an accompanying sauce. Desert for all was a delicious key lime tart, which I am sure has a special name. It was a sort of tower of soft cake, cream and lime. I learned that The Greenhouse is booked through 2021. Call about reservations for 2022, and don't miss the Lean-to this summer. read more

PSA!! Do not order the mac and cheese...... sauce tasted like canned cheese sauce and it was completely cold with no seasoning. You should not have $13 mac and cheese on your menu that the average joe can make better at their own house. Husband got the fish tacos, he said they were okay. The view and ambiance is nice. They are currently charging for food and adding a tip for wait staff prior to receiving your meal. Have enjoyed the food and the service here on previous visits. Did not get the chance to on my two most recent visits because they were closed despite their listings on Yelp Facebook and their own website and phone message indicating they would be open on the days I visited. Having been burned the first time, I called the restaurant and was told they would in fact be open on Thursday 9/17 for lunch. Got there at 12:30 to find the doors locked. Went to the resort desk to express my disappointment and was told by the clerk that they tried repeatedly to impress upon the restaurant management that customers were getting frustrated to arrive and find them closed during hours and days their listings indicate they will be open. If they can't be bothered to take the few minutes it takes to do something that basic, I doubt that I'll bother to try eating there again. read more

We went to the Lean-To for the first time last week for my mom's birthday dinner while on vacation in Old Forge. We went with a big party of 16 and were seated immediately. SETTING: First of all, the view and waterfront were absolutely gorgeous! Out on the deck it is picnic table style seating, there are dining tables inside near the bar if you prefer that. There is a gorgeous seating area outside with a fire pit, corn hole, a dock you can walk down to... the setting was great! We even got to see a seaplane landed right in front of us, and there was great live music! FOOD: I got the burger (along with the majority of the party) and we all thought it was delicious, and HUGE! The meat tasted fresh and there were options of toppings to add on (avocado, bacon, etc.). The other meals that were ordered were the steak (so-so, small, and nothing special... according to my grandma), the mac & cheese (good, but not a huge portion), the grain bowl (good with great toppings but tasted plain and could have used some more flavor) and the Cesar salad (small and plain). SERVICE: As I mentioned we had a big party (there was 16 of us) so we didn't expect to get seated immediately. I brought a cake for my mom's birthday and our waitress, Gretchen, was SO helpful in getting plates, a lighter, a knife, forks, etc. to help us pull off the surprise. On top of that, she was very attentive to our group and was on top of everything the whole time! Would definitely come back again to enjoy the view and eat a delicious burger! read more

Their was four of us on Saturday the Fourth of July , location is beautiful and staff was friendly and was practicing social distancing ,we all had a great tasting lunch. I had the angry fish tacos and when we left I had to stop not 10 minutes later to use a bathroom in a hurry . We got to sit outside. The decor and the view were incredible. You can see the mountains and lake from the outdoor dining area. The Rhinos lemonade was refreshing, sweet, and not too boozy. They had several beers on tap as well. Our server let us know there would be a 30 minute wait for food before we ordered which was considerate. Our food came out much sooner and we were brought trail mix while we waited. We ordered the poutine, maple scout wings, and the fish tacos. Up in the Central Adirondacks, looking for a decent outdoor place for dinner. Directed to this outdoor dining restaurant at Great Pines on Fourth Lake on Rt28, a few miles west of Eagle Bay. Quite a nice place for dinner. Order your food at a station and they bring it to you on a large lawn overlooking the lake. A very pleasant experience. Fairly limited menu but well-prepared. I would give it less, if I could. While we sat right away outside on the patio, we had no idea the wait we were in for, just for an appetizer. We went there to eat dinner, but unfortunately the only two things a vegetarian could eat, they were out of. One of those things was a salad and the other was zoodles (zucchini noodles). We have no idea how they could run out of those when there's people selling them EVERYWHERE! Or salad- you have no leaves?!?! Anywho. We bought our drinks and thanks to Cuomo, an app too. The staff already writes in their 18% tip on the check for you to sign. But mistake to sign it and hand it back in right away. We got the baked artichoke dip. The waitress told us it will be about 20 minutes for the dip. No biggie. About 30 minutes later, I noticed my friends beer expiration date was September 2018! After debating on whether or not to get a new one for about 5 minutes, she did. When she asked for the new beer, she asked about the dip. The waitress said she would check on it. 20 minutes after that, we got our dip. ICE COLD! It said "hot artichoke dip" on the menu and after waiting almost an hour, we were pissed it was cold. Oh, and it was literally 4 pieces (1 artichoke split into quarters-you can tell they're canned) mixed with some cream cheese. Because we were starving, and it cost us $8 plus tax and tip, we ate it and got out of there. The view is pretty, but I just don't understand their service. Why wouldn't you just serve us a simple dip and move on. The people behind us and across from us, who sat down WAY after us, got their whole meals (burgers, fresh chips, salads, steaks) before we got our tiny, cold artichoke dip. I was willing to be patient for awhile considering the labor struggles in Old Forge, but it appears to be a management issue. Ordered the kids food as soon as we sat down. Wow! Did I say Wow!! The first bite and you knew the care and love that went into these sandwiches were from a true lover of food! Right down to the lightly buttered and grilled ciabatta roll on the Oscar's Smokehouse Turkey to the from scratch lemony garlic humus on the "Tree Hugger" We stooped and grabbed them to go with us on our hike up to Stillwater fire-tower. The place is unique and styled after an Adirondack Lean-To with optional outdoor seating overlooking 4th Lake. I am already planning a return visit! read more

I was so impressed with the new renovations at the old North Woods! All the spaces have a gorgeous modern ADK feel. I'd love to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms sometime. They are a bit pricey though :/ The lean to is all open with a deck in the front overlooking the water. The food was delicious! We ordered the traditional poutine and it was rich, flavorful and filling. For entrees the steak sandwich was huge and had large pieces of tenderloin tips. The burger was huge and seasoned perfectly. It was extremely busy when we went but our server was so sweet and running around working hard to make sure everyone was taken care of. For new owners/chefs/servers I was expecting some kinks but this was not the case. I will definitely be back next year to try more of the fantastic menu! read more

Food is decent, but they absolutely have to figure out the service. Tough to tell who is in charge here. View from the (not-so-busy) bar on a recent afternoon into the kitchen revealed no fewer than 6 young employees with a lot of time on their hands. Problem is that with this much help it was tough to wrap my head around why it took 45 minutes for me to get a burger and fries. We've heard similar complaints from other people. The Lean-To is fortunate to have a staff this large, especially in an area that seems desperate for seasonal staff in many other venues. We enjoyed a "dinner" of apps & drinks on a slow night. Our server was a hoot, we had a blast chatting with her. We loved the pretzels, artichokes, & poutine. The fried green tomatoes were watery & tough. Not sure if they had been frozen or if the tomatoes were just too green but I've lived in the south & these weren't very good. The Lean-to is a fun, casual hangout kind of place. In nice weather there's lots of room to spread outside & soak up that view. Inside is cozy & even has a couple easy chairs. Fun place! read more

Nightmare!!!! Stay very far away. Sat for 40 minutes without drinks and no appetizers. No Manager on staff. Ran out of crackers and root beer. Apologies from staff but no resolution. I have been going to The Lean To for many years. Today when we got there we were told they were out of hamburgers and flat bread. Seriously, during a weekend you don't have food. Next surprise...the menu has changed and it is terrible. Not much to get if there with no hamburgers. Crappy appetizers. What happened??? I had a steak taco. Yuck, more like Alpo on a soggy taco shell served in a paper bowl. Gross. The paper bowl did not add to the meal. My partner had maple chicken wings. Said they were ok but nothing special. So, sorry to say, that is the last time I will drive 60 miles to sit on the beautiful lake and eat garbage. The menu on line is the old menu so don't expect anything even close. Beautiful indoors and amazing view on the deck! All of the food and drinks were delicious. We had a lot- and leaving very full! Started out with the Maple Scout drinks, maple nuts and hushpuppies. All very good! For dinner I had the chicken and peach kabobs, fiancé had the tuna burger, and friend had the trout tacos. We also had poutine fries for another appetizer. Last night we called The Lean to asking if they could get in 11 of us. They replied they didn't take reservations but would let it be known there would be a party of 11 coming. We get there and are told that they only seat up to parties of 10 together! There is only one more then 10 and we called earlier! The place is almost empty and there is a table of ten that just needs to be cleared and another small table set up right next to it but they tell us the only way they can get us in right away is to put half of us outside and half at a table inside! Really! We are all staring at the table in front of us and how empty the place is. So our family left and had a great meal some place else. The Lean to lost the sales of a party of 11 and since everyone was 16 and up those were all adult meals you lost. We won't be back. read more

Very disappointed in our entire experience here on 7/9/20. First off, they automatically charged us a 20% tip before we got our meals. We ordered our own food at the cash register and not once had a waitress wait on us or ask if we needed anything. It was all self serve which is fine. We questioned them on the tip and asked why we could not pick the tip amount we felt was appropriate. They gave us a lame excuse that they charged us 20% to pay their employees and then admitted that we could have picked our own tip amount. Secondly, they got our order wrong and asked if we still wanted the food! Thirdly, the steak in the flank steak sandwich was cold and raw. The manager tried to tell us that this was how it's made but that they could throw the meat back on the grill. That violates the food safety regulations and is completely unsanitary in a time of COVID!!! The waitresses were rude and the manager completely lacked customer service and any knowledge of the food safety requirements for a restaurant. We have a home on 4th lake and eat out regularly but we will never return to The Great Pines. read more

I wish I could say we got there on a bad night but given the reviews, it looks like poor operations/service is a recurring theme. We spent all day Sunday traveling to get here and figured we'd eat at the restaurant at the hotel. When we arrived, we were told that there was a 15 min wait for a table and 30 min wait for food. We have two small children and called a few other options in town but decided that by the time we could drive to town, we would have a table so opted to stay. My one positive is that there was one gentleman server who recognized our children were hungry and tired so when I asked if we could put a food order in to minimize our wait once seated he agreed. However, shortly after the hostess came out and told us we now had an hour wait for food. My husband stayed while I took the kids back to the room to shower and within minutes was texted that the food was ready! We went back to the restaurant and the food was cold and the macaroni was burned. I spoke to the server, recognizing that they had tried to accommodate us and maybe we hit a bad night but he just sort of nodded and did nothing to offset our experience. Could have comped the kids mac n cheese ($6) or even a small discount. The view is beautiful but unfortunately did not make up for our dining experience. read more

For a 20 something year old, this place is great. They were playing indie-pop music, sent over a chill waiter, and had great food. For this area (which is overly country music fueled bars with hot wings and nachos), this place stands out above the rest with peanut butter burgers, maple wings, artichoke hearts, and more. We stayed at the Great Pines Resort. Having a restaurant just steps away was so convenient! We had the Gobbler, a thanksgiving sandwich, the artichoke dip, the mac n cheese, and the pretzels. The gobbler was fantastic! It was a perfect combination of flavors and the cranberry mayo was delicious! The artichoke dip was sooo cheesy and yummy. The mac n cheese was a bit dull, but still good!
