Picturesque place, definitely dated but with a charm to it, the service is friendly and fun, our server was great, am sorry to have forgotten her name. We stopped here on our way to pick up our kiddo at the cranberry lake biological station. The people running the show were friendly and super invested in making sure we had good recommendations and a great lunch. I had the recommended hot honey chicken sandwich and my husband the fish & chips. They were both great! On the drive home from hiking Mount Arab I was looking for a place to eat and stumbled upon the Thirsty Moose. Pretty much what you'd expect from a "middle of nowhere" Adirondack bar. Decent menu, I had the French dip sandwich which was pretty solid and washed it down with an ice cold Genny. Bar tender was friendly and attentive. If I'm the area I'd stop again. read more

We had a wonderful lunch at the Thirsty Moose! We called to make a reservation, which they do accept, for our larger party. Outdoor seating was available, but we opted for inside to take in the rustic decor and the AC. Bathrooms were nice and clean. Parking ample. We were waited on by the owners, who are a lovely couple. The menu is very kid friendly! They were very patient and kind with the four young children in our party. Prices were incredibly reasonable. Beer (no draft) and wine were available as well as a full bar. We ordered appetizers for the adults-poutine, onion petals and mozz sticks-all delicious. Our meals were all perfect and portions were very generous, but we made room for desert. PSA DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT ORDERING THE APPLE PIE LOGS A LA MODE FOR DESERT. We hope to visit again soon-the owner mentioned they are currently closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The restaurant has a very good website with the menu and active social media, too! read more

We make annual trips to Lake Placid and this is about the half way point from our house. We always make this our 1st stop in route to Placid every time. Have a cocktail, play a few hands of quick draw and grab an appetizer. It's always on a Friday at lunch time when we stop, so it's usually not too busy. Its a nice pitstop. I've never been for dinner or stayed for more than a couple drinks so I can't comment on that, but we love stopping here. Will be heading there next Friday, 10/22 in route to Placid again. :) Cheers! read more

If i could rate this 0 stars i would. As soon as me and a group of friends came into this restaurant, we were instantly greeted with rude stares and silence. The rest of the experience was just as unwelcoming. We sat down, ordered food, and were served by a waitress who made faces at us when she thought we couldn't see us, and was extremely rude and passive aggressive the entire time. The food was okay at best. One of my friends ordered pasta with red sauce. Not meat sauce. Nowhere on the menu did it say the red sauce (which is typically tomato sauce) had meat in it. When my friend asked politely if there was meat in it, she was given a response in a very rude tone saying, "all our sauce has meat in it, you should have specified otherwise". If you don't know what red sauce is, then don't serve it. Or run a restaurant actually. After we left the door was locked after us. Immediately. There were still other people in the restaurant and it was an hour from closing. This place is not welcoming to outsiders or vegetarians. How are you going to be unwelcoming to outsiders when you advertise cabins in the back the rent? Do not stop here. I have never had a worse restaurant experience in my whole life. read more

Came here for breakfast today on our way to Lake Placid. We ordered the the 5 for $6 platter. The eggs were cooked perfect, the bacon and sausage were crisp and delicious. The pancakes bread were the perfect size and golden brown. We met the owner who was super nice and he gave us some great ideas of places to visit that represent the locals and artists. We will definitely be coming back to try other menu items. There is even a geocache to look for across the street! read more

We booked cabins there this winter for s snowmobiling weekend. There was no heat in the cabin. The restaurant service was horrble. 3 hours to order and have dinner. Waitress was rude. Owner was a jerk when we left our cabin without paying. even when we tried to pay the night we got there. Space heater in cabin. 47 degrees. Horrible service read more

Have passed here many times but finally stopped today. The cute outdoor seating with umbrellas was perfect for us. No one else was out there so I know it was not easy for her to go in and out, but the waitress was Very friendly and attentive regardless. We had onion petals, mushroom burger with fries and blt with fries. Our 2yo had Mac and cheese and fries. All food was good and as expected. One small thing would be the portions of fries with the meals were tiny, but otherwise no issues. We would 100% stop here again. read more

2/1/2021 We stopped at this restaurant twice in the last few weeks and both times I don't have very good reviews. The first time we waited at the bar for over an hour and a half for our two orders of French fries and two drinks and the restaurant was not very full. They only had one person running the bar and the dining area. The 2nd time the bartender was very rude when I wanted a mixed drink stating she is way too busy to make one and continued to to show an attitude towards us. Then we went to the dining room the waitress was so rude stating you can have a seat but not sure if or when I will be able to serve you but you can have a seat. when she ended up coming over to our table 30 minutes later to get our order, she was just so rude and her face mask was never on her face during the whole conversation. While waiting for our grilled chicken sandwiches we watched her as she continued to pull her mask off her face when speaking to others. Our food showed up about an hour later and was cold. It's so sad the customer servers had to be so bad when during this time they need all the business they can get. We use to love coming here on our sleds .it use to be such a great friendly a place to go. We will not be going back. read more

They offer hand sanitizer at your table, have good outdoor seating, are really friendly and facilities (ie bathroom) were extremely clean. Stopped in for some beers and appetizers on a rainy day. Passed it on our way to Lake Placid a few days ago and glad we stopped in. Cute cabins in the back you can rent apparently they are quite busy in the winter. Friendly owners. Great conversation and even the little things like kids cups and crayons and paper were provided. Such a great place to stop for food and drinks on our long drive up to Lake Placid. The service was amazing! Our waitress Frankie was very attentive and friendly. I cannot praise her enough! She's one of those special and kind people that will make you feel like you are one of her own. Great atmosphere, everyone there was having an enjoyable experience. My salad was great and I'm not usually one to finish a salad. The fries were good but they're not hand cut or anything. The pasta was good but don't expect serious Italian food unless you're actually at an Italian restaurant. Overall it was a lovely experience and we will definitely be back soon! read more

We've been to this restaurant/bar twice now...stupid us to try it again! Last year (2015) while vacationing in Cranberry Lake we decided to go to dinner on our daughter's birthday at the Thirsty Moose Pub and Grub. Dinner was ok, but there was a very skeleton wait staff and our waitress seemed hurried and flustered. We tried to order an appetizer but were told that she wouldn't have time to bring it to us so she would just take our dinner order instead. It seemed odd at the time and we've joked about it in our family for about a year. I say a year because this year (2016) we are vacationing in the same spot and decided that we would again go to the Thirsty Moose for my daughter's birthday and hopefully we would be able to get an appetizer. Haha, right? No. We walk in at 8:25pm on a Friday night. There were people dining and some patrons in the bar, when a woman came out from behind the bar and very angrily told us that they were no longer serving. She seemed very put out by the fact that a family of 5 had walked in to her restaurant. We had checked the sign to be sure that we were still within the restaurant's hours of operation; they served until 9pm. At this point we are DONE trying to dine at the Thirsty Moose. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra 10 miles to Tupper Lake...you'll find much better options there! read more
