Well, the epic of finding great food in the North Country has lead us to the Barking Dog Saloon and so glad it did!!! We moved to Colton almost three years ago from Boston and now we regret not coming here sooner. We took a great sampling of the menu and enjoyed every dish. The 2 burgers were cooked perfectly- 1 medium and 1 medium rare. The fries were very crunchy and held its own. My mummy got the fish fry - the only negative was perhaps the fish was overcooked and hard to eat- the beer batter tasted great though but I would suggest a min less on the deep fry. The chicken wings were fantastic,ally juicy -( we choose the golden bbq known more in North Carolina) even my husband enjoyed them and he does not like saucy food. The large portion of boneless chicken rings would be even a meal with a light salad. Great crunchy Onion rings that hold their own. Mozzarella sticks were nice. The Buffalo Egg rolls were very mild which was great for my family but I enjoy them on the hotter side. I really adore fried pickles and the batter they used held up to the juicy pickle:). I would like to see if in future they offer pickle chips and not just the spears. The only other thing I would point out- the blue cheese dipping sauce could be better. Needs more- maybe if they added real blue cheese chunks. Overall great experience, nice staff and a cosy dining room and bar. At the time we picked up the take a way there were four tables full families The Barking Dog Saloon is off the beaten path but entirely an adventure to find it so worth it. We only are able to go out once a month but I am sure this will be our go to place- maybe the next time try their Chicken Parm Sandwich. I went to barking dog saloon after seeing a review online claiming they had the best wings in NY. And that just might be true. I got the maple bacon chipotle wings and they were out of this world. They were crispy, large, and still tender. What really brings it home is their house made blue cheese. This is a place I would 100% recommend and is somewhere I will be frequenting. The dog bite is a superb burger. Service was very warm but they get busy. The space is charming and rustic. The beer is excellent - loved seeing some of my favorite Maine beers here. Adjacent to a scrap yard and shooting range the location is definitely unique. read more

Literally the BEST wings I've had in my lifetime. I mean wow. I got a dozen wings and I powered through the wings because they were that good. Couldn't waste my money. Wish I knew about this place sooner. 10/10 recommend coming here. read more

It was a Thursday night and very busy and noisy. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken and other than the chicken, the salad and dressing were bland. Left after dark and the parking lot was dark and it was hard to see the exit. The driveway is shared with a junkyard and gun shop and full of potholes. read more

After a number of days in town and a number of less-than-stellar meals, The Barking Dog really delivered the goods! Great food selections and even better beer menu! The staff & servers were very friendly and attentive. The kitchen kicked my order out quickly, but not rushed. The fried cheese curds were really tasty but I have to say the battered onion rings were the best of the apps I tried. The Dog bite burger had quite the kick, but the great flavor still made it through the heat. The raspberry wheat beer was the perfect pairing to keep my taste buds cooled down, and the colossal piece of peanut butter pie topped everything off. Three stars because we didn't order any food. BUT: this place is a great place to try a huge variety of beers and wines. The management is bringing in new flavors from all over the state and offering a wonderful selection. The staff is just the best, very happy to share information on all the different choices in the house. There's ALOT to choose from! We tried the Township line of beers that they carried. Very very good, especially the pale ale, much like commercial beers but not as watery. The raspberry beer was good, worth a try. We'll go back again and try the food next time. read more

Good food, nearly impossible to get in due to the sheer amount of people. The service is slow, but they don't have enough employees to deal with the sheer amount of customers. The highlight is definitely their signature Dog Bite Burger, but their other food isn't too bad either. It's the best place in Potsdam, but as someone who has had even better bar food out of town, it could step up its game just a bit more. read more

I've been in Pdam for 2 1/2 years. My wife and I don't eat out often but when we do, we enjoy going to the Barking Dog. They have the best burger and wings in town. I love the Dog Bite burger. I also enjoy the maple bacon chipotle wings. read more

We ventured over to the Barking Dog Saloon because it did have good reviews and pictures of food looked good. Maybe the food would have been good but everything was very uncomfortable right from the road. First we had to venture down through a metal scrap yard. Fearing we took a wrong turn, we turned around and went back up to the main road. We saw the sign was there, so ventured back down through the metal scrap yard again. When we pulled up, we saw a sign for an ammo shop but again didn't see any sign for the saloon. Sitting in the car for a few minutes, my daughter in law finally decided to venture around where there was appeared to be an outside area. We there finally found a door that said it was the entrance. We went inside and there was only one bartender and a bunch of patrons drinking. There was really no indication that food would be served there and becoming very uncomfortable, we decided to leave and decided to find something a little more family friendly. Now...I'm in no way saying the food would have been bad. In fact it might have been the best we've ever eaten. But I guess we will never know. read more

Pulling up to this restaurant was weird because it was not well marked and it looked like a house, however the interior was decorated like an average pub. I ordered medium wings and they were average, my boyfriend ordered the Fishermans platter and it was average but I am not a huge fan of fried seafood... and everything on the plate was fried and it all basically tasted the same. We walked into this place early on a Tuesday so it was understandably quiet. This worked in our favor because we got personal treatment from the owner Lisa. She talked us through the extensive beer and cider menu. No liquor. We only ordered apps and enjoyed all of them. I asked what was in the fried jalepeno popper and she had the kitchen make just one for me to try. The chicken wings were fried perfectly crispy and the fried portobello mushrooms were great as well. The place is very cozy with a fireplace and couch seating. A pool table, shuffleboard, dartboard and juke box are there for your entertainment. Middle of nowhere and perfect spot for some beers and dinner or just hangout for a few hours. Many interesting draft beers to choose from and a perfectly small menu with a great selection that will satisfy all. 4th visit and have sampled almost all apps and meal items on the menu and not disappointed at all. we have tried to be pretty regular food patrons been a half dozen times or so in the past year. Service is terribly slow. Bathrooms are not often clean. We have been told the owner "has grumpy attitude and doesn't like people" in response to rude treatment. Too bad, because the atmosphere is very well done and they have a large open space.
