Honestly - I didn't have the highest expectations. We were visiting Ogdensburg for a wedding. The town is tiny and sort of in the middle of nowhere. Let's just say it's not a dining enthusiasts dream. BUT The Place was good! We sat outside on their back patio. There was one server holding down the entire place. We didn't find service too slow, however. Our server was a doll - super sweet and engaging when she really didn't have to be due to how busy she was. Their cheese curds with the raspberry jalapeño dipping sauce were to die for. They also make a homemade ranch that was delish! The Alfredo pasta was the only thing we had that wasn't great. My husband had a buffalo chicken wrap - he did say the buffalo sauce had a sweet taste and wasn't that spicy. I love that the bar serves popcorn - great diversion for our 2 young kiddos who loved having something to munch on while we waited. So glad we found this place. read more

Delicious food, great selection of beer. Who the hell gives a two star review because a place serves non-American beer? I got their mozzarella pesto wrap, and it was amazing. I have a small appetite and usually end up taking most of my food home to eat later, but I ate the whole thing right there! They were also great about accommodating my partner's dietary needs and very friendly. We'll definitely be coming back often. read more

Everything was clean and the decor was great. I ordered the Buffalo basket with fries and a Cobb salad. The Buffalo sauce wasn't spicy enough for my liking, but that may just be because I'm used to California spicy. The fries were a little greasy and tasted like sweet potato rather than regular fries. The Cobb salad was pretty okay and the chicken tasted fresh, but it's nearly impossible to mess up a salad. I'm giving the place a 4/5 stars because I saw a few negative reviews that this place frankly doesn't deserve, and frankly it's a lot better than some other restaurants I've run into. I'm giving this place two stars because they serve Heineken beer because let's be real, the bars around here basically only serve American beer. The food is not good, not even the burgers (womp womp womp). The BBQ chicken salad is literally lettuce, chicken, and BBQ sauce as dressing. Gross! On the other hand, their chicken strips are pretty good. The Place is definitely not the spot I voluntarily go to. In most towns this doesn't get more than 2 and a half stars, but that's assuming other towns have a place that is better. They serve Guinness the right way, the clientele isn't too rowdy, the bartenders are nice, and the space while not large, is adequate. Little pricey for Ogdenaburg but that keeps the customer base classy. read more

I am a pretty big fan of any place that employs old men on an apparent salary of sandwiches and canned Busch. Not sure what the function of this guy at The Place is, besides to ask questions of the bartender about her mother's upbringing in Newburgh. But he seemed like a fun guy. Just like the guy watching the noon thirty news from Syracuse, nursing a mug of Bud. Not a huge fan of the knicknacks and assorted "proud Irish" relics. Could definitely lose the bar staff uniforms. Why do bars often seem to think that patrons want to imagine the staff as amateur athletes? Whatever. They have a nice old chest refrigerator. And two beers and a greasy specialty burger with fries ran $12.00 plus tax. Seems normal here, but it's still a wonderful novelty to me. read more

Located on a main street in a small town on our way to Ottawa, we spotted this appealing little place. It looked interesting from the outside The inside was a bit of a disappointment as we were hoping for more of the old style of the exterior architecture to carry through to the inside. Immediately as you walk in there is a small bar with some original woodwork and old cooler along with a variety of pictures, signs, fish, and Irish decor. The seating for the bar extends all the way to the door, and there was a large gentleman sitting right next to the door. It was a bit cramped getting in and around him, but he also didn't make any effort to move, so we can't blame the restaurant for that. The seating is also cramped and the bathroom is located in the middle of the dining area. Probably not the most appetizing to actually be about to see into the one stall bathroom while you eat. There is a back room and a patio that are nice, and probably used a lot during the summer months. When we visited it was a little before noon and not too crowded, although the place was full by the time we left. There were a couple waitresses and a bartender on duty and we were greeted and seated quickly. We ordered the parmesan chicken quesadilla and a french dip. Most of the items on the menu where priced below $10 and included fries or chips. The portions where more than enough. Both of our meals where very good. My quesadilla came with a balsamic glaze which was delicious. The fries where a bit greasy, but we enjoyed them. We did see other meals at nearby tables and everything looked tasty. I can't imagine anyone leaving this place hungry, unless of course they left before their food came. Which was the biggest problem we had with this place. The service was friendly but painfully slow. We were there over an hour, more than we expected, but we did have the time that day so we were okay with it. I don't know if this is the usually pace of the service here. Maybe we came on a bad day but if it's typical for this place, it's something they should take care of. If we had only had a limited time for lunch we would have had to leave before our meal came. The location also has a lack of parking and we spent the entire time hoping our car didn't get hit as cars where parked on both sides of a busy street making what is otherwise a two lane street, one car wide. Overall, we would give it a second try but I would shoot for a time between the lunch and dinner crowds for an off street parking spot and hope they can get our food to us much faster. read more

Food was Awesome! Their buffalo wing sauce is not the normal bottled stuff. Almost like a hot Thai sauce. Made from scratch on site. The Quesadilla, (Bacon, Chicken and Ranch!!!), gave me some ideas for making them at home. They were great. We arrived at closing after a 6+ hour drive up to see family, they were still more then happy to make us dinner and a few adult beverages. The place was great, highly recommend them! read more

By far one of the most disappointing experiences we have ever had. We stopped for a what we thought would be a quick lunch - Monday afternoon around 1:30 only four other tables occupied. The three of us all ordered the special - tuna on a croissant. We didn't get our lunch until 50 minutes after we ordered.
