Our kids say this place has the best hotdog and bun in the whole world. We stopped and grabbed a bite before our hotel room was ready. Chicken fingers were ok, grilled cheese and hotdogs were great. We ordered around 12pm and service was fast. Outdoor seating snd a gift shop on the property. Long lines after the waterpark closes. The rest room looks gross but they keep it very clean. A quick, convenient, Old Forge staple. Prices are incredibly reasonable & the staff is wonderful for food service!

The metal cord twist tie that my daughter found in her mouth while she was eating a pied piper sandwich could have been very dangerous. The owner (who admitted that he himself had made the sandwich and added the metal wire) was on the premises and he could have given her a refund for this sandwich, but refused to. This whole scene suggests sloppy and indifferent management which could affect your safety. I suggest eating elsewhere. read more

Knowledgeable about food allergies. As a food allergy mama, I was very impressed with how accommodating this business was for our daughter's peanut allergy- requiring the use of an epi pen to prevent anaphylaxis. I was nervous coming here due to the potential of cross contamination with the closest hospital being an hour away. However, the staff here were very knowledgeable about food allergies. They changed their gloves, wiped down the machine, and checked the ingredients of the brownies to make sure they did not contain peanuts. They made our sundae with fresh ingredients to ensure no cross contamination. Just wanted to acknowledge this business in case other families are traveling to Old Forge. read more

Pied Piper is one of those "been around forever" places in the Adirondacks. It's a place to get cheap food and ice cream and sit outside and enjoy your vacation. I grew up eating here and I love the place. This is not gourmet food, but the chili they make is the closest thing to Tommy's Chili (a California burger chain) that I have found on the east coast. I would come here again just to eat chili cheese fries and a chili cheeseburger with that chili on it. Yup, LA Style Chili all the way in New York. Awesome! The ice cream is good and portions are right. This is part of the Adirondack experience, don't miss it. read more

We recently stayed a week in Old Forge for a family reunion, and every night we somehow managed to walk from our cabin to "The Pied" for dessert. We actually went so often that we started calling it "The Pied" for short. Every night we would stand in the line that usually extended to the street, but everyone was in such a good mood that the waiting wasn't a problem and the service was relatively fast given the number of people there. The portion sizes on the ice cream dishes are big. I gained about 10 pounds in the week I spent in OF. And the window staff are super friendly. They bring them in from Eastern Europe to work for the summer and they are much friendlier than your average American teenager working fast food. read more

The Pied Piper is a cool little 50's style Ice Cream/Food stand in the beautiful NY Adirondack Mountains. I can only speak on behalf of the ice cream.. which was pretty tasty. They also offer some sandwich fares such as Burgers, Hot Dogs, Pulled Pork etc. Overall I find this place to be a blast from the past, and a cool place to stop with the family for a nice Ice Cream or Sandwich. read more

During peak summer hours, they hire help from abroad. Probably through American WAT program (work and travel program. Every year my family goes to the Adirondack Mountains and camps at Raquette Lake, just half an hour drive from this classic food shack. Amazing ice cream as well. I have never had a negative experience at this restaurant and if you're traveling with pets then the lake side park and field will be great. Great food and ice cream! read more

Came here expecting cheap meh food. I was right until I tried the chili, utterly fantastic on the fries, it took a marginal restaurant to being a new favorite destination. The chili has the perfect amount of spice, and outside of tommys in California is some of the best I've had on fries. read more

I once had a teenage employee hand me my milkshake, and say that it smelled good. It was a coffee and chocolate milkshake, and it did smell fantastic. This stand is exactly what you're looking for if you want a greasy burger and fries. They have the most ice cream flavors in town. You can sit and enjoy it by the lake. Lines move fairly quickly, service is fast, and accurate. You might feel bad about eating there after you feel it come out of your pores, but hey, you're probably on vacation. read more

On 7/25/15, After two attempts of trying to purchase a ice cream without a hair in it. I was told by the manager "hair happens" Really? No apology and slapping my refund into my hand. The ice cream is fine here, but don't go for lunch. The 'haddock tenders were fried Gortons type bricks, definitely not tender. The buffalo chicken tenders were also food service pack quality dipped in a bland sauce. No credit cards are accepted, but there is an ATM next to the cashier. Is it 1985? this summertime food stand has been here for AGES so it's sort of a local Adirondack institution. it's the sort of place that screams "American Summer Vacation." it's the usual cheap eats & ice cream but they boast a lot of variety in that genre: burgers, fries, hot dogs...but also pretty decent chili, pulled pork, and grilled chicken. it's cash only, and the lines move quickly. pro tip: the kids meals are served on a souvenir frisbee as a plate, which can be immediately enjoyed on the big lawn next to the stand running down to the lake. read more

We heard good things and went to visit the ice cream shop with our three little ones. My husband waited in the long line while I waited under the shade with the kids. He came running around corner for the atm card then go back to complete the order. The rude young lady told him she couldn't wait for him and he needed to go back in line again! She gave him a face and was like "oh well" while my five year old son was crying. It only took a few second to get the card and the kids were crying cuz dad came back with no ice cream. we had to leave, thanks to the worker, my entire family was upset that night which was supposed to be a fun night out for ice cream. Thanks to the rude obnoxious young lady in the window who had no heart to wait a few second to get the card while the workers supposed to make five ice creams for our family. My family and I stopped for ice cream while on vacation. My son ordered nuts on his ice cream. He watch the girl put her bare hands in the nuts and then hand him the ice cream! He told the owner Mr. Brown what just happened and he had the nerve to doubt him. First off they should be wearing gloves handling food which NO had on! We stopped here for two reasons: 1: I used to go there as a child with my parents, and seeing it there really brought back memories. 2: Our hotel was right next door and it was very convenient. The food was good, the service was very friendly, and it was nice sharing an experience with my kids that I had with my parents when I was young. The food is a tasty treat, as we don't often eat greasy fried foods; we make an exception for Pied Piper when we pass through town every summer. For lunch and ice cream, they are great! You can sit out by the lake and eat, and it is a short walk to shops and a beach. read more
