Twister's is a roadside ice cream stand with a walk-up counter and some picnic table seating. It looks like they used to also offer other Puerto Rican food, but not anymore. They mostly offer hard ice cream from Hersey's. As other reviews noted, the soft serve was a bit gritty and not as smooth as I expected. I came here w a friend for a quick ice cream stop before heading home for the night. There was a long line as the other ice cream place in town was closed. It's CASH ONLY, although there is a Venmo option. The menu is a bit "all over the place" with it's advertised Puerto Rican meals/specials and ice cream. The ice cream was good, but all of the other options and signage made it feel like there was a little too much going on...perhaps offer a few weekly specials to mix it up a bit. What a fun unusual find in the North country. We were staying near Eagle Bay on Fourth Lake when we saw an ice cream shop. On closer examination the sign said homemade Puerto Rican food. We decided to try them for lunch. The menu was rather extensive for such a small place. Lot's of pork dishes, stew, plantains, yucca, nachos etc. etc. and of course empanadas. It took a while for the girl to take our order. When she finally did the wait for our food was extremely long. There were only two staff members but it still took too long. They must not have anything prepped. When we finally got our food it was mostly good. I got the beef empanada and rice and beans. The empanada was very good with well spiced ground beef but small for the price. The rice and beans were also tasty but average. The plantains were delicious. The chicken empanada was flavorful too. My niece enjoyed her loaded nachos and my brother's ribs were tender and tasty. The kids got some ice cream and even that was a wait. I found out later we could have ordered ahead which I would suggest doing. With some work on their timing this could be a favorite in an area with very few choices. read more

Honestly not that impressed with Twister's Ice Cream in Eagle Bay. Me and my girlfriend wanted a refreshing treat after a long day of camping. We stopped in Inlet to only discover that Northern Lights Ice Cream was cash only. We decided to head to the next place down route 28. We stopped at Twister's and were greeted by a rather unpleasant teenager behind the counter, I'm not asking for you to do flips for me but at least pretend to be somewhat happy with your customers. The boy reluctantly took our order and was rather rude. Twister's has a variety of payment methods including paper cash, Venmo, and Cashapp and could not just take my physical credit card. We opted for Venmo, thank goodness we had service or we would've have to find yet another ice cream place. Payment ended up working fine until we realized that we were charged $12 for two small soft ice creams!!! I understand that in a remote location it is easier to charge higher but all other places i've been to in Old Forge or Inlet or even Raquette Lake are NOT this much. These are outrageous prices. Including $12 and upwards for a single sundae. The ice cream we got honestly was not impressive either, the chocolate ice cream was cheap tasting and rather dark or gritty tasting. Not sure how their hard ice cream is but I wouldn't recommend the soft. Overall I'm not impressed with the service or food at Twister's. The ambiance is quaint and the tables are clean but not worth it for it's weird payment methods and unreasonable pricing. Twister's do better. read more

We came here after dinner for dessert. I got the coconut almond ice cream and my daughter was suppose to get the cotton candy, but they gave her something else. We didn't bother to back to grab the correct one. It's a cute little place as they also served smoked BBQ food. My ice cream was delicious. A small is 1 scoop, but it's plenty for me cause the scoop is big! Also have an eating area outside. Every year my family returns to Eagle Bay and re-visits Twisters, which has a great location, but every year we seem to be disappointed. They have a fine variety of hard ice cream, but the soft ice cream machine seems to frequently be out of order. This evening, we ordered five ice creams and only one was correct: a second order was filled incorrectly (cup instead of cone and the wrong flavors) and the other three had ordered soft, waited empty-handed for about five minutes, and then were told that none of the soft serve machines were working. I don't know if we are simply always unlucky, but we've never gone here without a mistaken order or a broken soft-serve. I'd really like to see Twisters succeed because I love having an ice cream spot right here in Eagle Bay, but it does seem as though we are always disappointed by Twister's. read more

This is a very cute little ice cream stand that opened in Eagle Bay in July 2008. They serve the locally made Mercer's ice cream which is pretty darn good. If you like chocolate try their Adirondack Brownie ice cream. There's not much more to say other than they have some seating out in front and that they have both hard and soft serve and a number of options like sundaes, shakes and all the typical ice cream goodies. They're very cheap and nice people. Definitely stop by if you're in the area. read more
