Old forge has become very busy over the years. We opted for the front door diner as we could be seated immediately. Two families of 3 and 4. Our orders were taken promptly and we specified for split checks between the families. The diner was busy and it took 40 minutes from ordering to receiving our breakfast meals. The food was cooked well, eggs were a touch on the cold side but everyone really enjoyed their meals. Waitress was all over the place and seemed to be waiting on half the tables so the service was a bit lacking there. Place was clean, bathrooms spotless. My only gripe is that both parties were hit with the automatic 18% gratuity for parties over 7+ which I felt a bit unfair given we asked for split checks. Was in Old Forge for a mural job and needed some breakfast before starting. Front Door Diner looked like a nice spot to stop! We were in "painting clothes" and don't look like the typical, wealthy, privileged doctor type summering in ADK, so maybe we looked like the help - I dunno. Because we didn't receive a very warm welcome or good customer service. I asked if takeout was available, was told yes, so we looked at a menu. Once we decided what we wanted, I had to search for someone to tell because no one was checking in with us, no one said "let us know when you're ready"; we were essentially being ignored. "Hi, excuse me, where can we place an order for takeout?"I asked. "Umm...(looks at girl next to her) do you want to take this?" Never responded to me, never said "Sure! Let me find out for ya," or anything like that. I find that to be kind of rude. The vibe felt like they were either confused or annoyed that we wanted to order takeout. None of the younger women working there were overly friendly. Giving three stars because the food wasn't BAD, just nothing to write home about and the portions were small for the price. I opened my container and the tiny portion of home fries felt like someone was pranking me. The hollandaise on my Benny was separated, the breakfast burrito was small and kind of pitiful looking, but again, didn't taste bad. It's 2022; if businesses don't care about basic customer service, making people feel welcome, etc, especially with the cost of dining out, I'll happily spend my money elsewhere. Spent a week in Old Forge and so thankful I stumbled across this place on the first day. I insisted on eating here for breakfast everyday after. Make sure to order something with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce the cook must be a machine so consistent. read more

It was our second choice that morning because the first one was closed. We had been there last year and were not too impressed. I'm glad we went in. The staff was friendly and greeted us immediately. Our waitress Marion was a delight and made it a nice experience start to finish. The food was quite good too. The perfect location for watching people and traffic. We went on labor day,just for a day trip. The traffic in old forge was constant, the food was amazing. Simple American fair, I had a bacon cheeseburger. Lots of cheese and the meat was flavorful. My hubby had a chicken parm sandwich that he had trouble finishing because it was so big. He loved it.
