Terrible service. Hostess was rude and pushed through us to seat us. Limited menu after hours. Disappointed. We left.

We looked forward to dining at Walt's. Good reviews preceded our visit. I do not question the truthfulness of others' dining experiences at Walt's, but ours was disappointing. For a drink I asked for water, but was told only bottled water was available. Two others in our party asked for "hot water with lemon." Happily, they were served their water. But my tap water could not be accommodated. Two of our party were told our sandwiches would come on a bun; in fact one of us made a meal choice based on the bun. But we were served our sandwiches without a bun, on white bread. No apologies were offered by Walt's or check to see if we wanted something different. In fact, the sandwiches without the buns were simply delivered without comment. I protested. I was told they had just run out of buns. Why not tell us before substituting. I then asked for rye bread and was given it; my friend ate the substituted white bread sandwich and murmured that they would not have ordered what they had if they had known. I asked if they wanted me to speak up for them? I was told no. These are not big issues, like health or world peace. But in running a restaurant they are needless discourtesies, small pokes-in-the-eye. Attitudes and honesty matter. I found Walt's wanting on both. read more

I have to say i love this place. We come here every year and this is a must stop. Some of the guys want to try other places for Breakfast and they keep saying Walts is better. All i say is "I told You" The family is great as well. One of the Son's helped us get an older lady out of a ditch, we were the only snowmobiles to stop and help too, but the one son in the white truck was passing and helped us pull her out. Met Walt Jr too when we were out and he helped fix one of the sleds that broke down. I have to say the family and the Diner is great. read more

The hostess for today......please breathe. Sitting at the counter and couldn't enjoy my breakfast because I was floored by what I was hearing. "Inside or outside? Outside - ok then go outside," "yeah, I know what I'm doing," "Party complete? It's incomplete, see we can't be doing this," "you have to move, you're in the way," "you want a refill? It ain't free," Not to mention, I overheard you tell the regulars at the counter "Jesus the people today." I'm just baffled. Take a moment. Breathe. It will all be ok. Being in the business, I can attest that the customers are not always right. The energy you were exuding today was quite negative. You ARE in the hospitality business at the end of the day and no one deserves to be talked to like that. As for our server, thank you for smiling. Thank you for being pleasant. read more

Had breakfast here the 2 days we were in Old Forge last week. Normally my wife wouldn't eat at the same place twice in a row but I think she enjoyed watching the cooks as much as she enjoyed eating the breakfast. Day one we both had a single pancake because we were told how big they are. We shared an order of bacon and an order of homefries. The pancakes were huge one is all you need or want. I just finished my one pancake. Day two I ordered a pancake and we shared an order of bacon, my wife ordered two eggs. I couldn't finish my one pancake even after the wife had a few bites. Over the two days we went here we watched so many people order a short stack or more of pancakes and not a single person finished or came close to finishing there order. I watched one guy brush off the waitress when she tried to tell him how big the order was. He didn't finish a quarter of one pancake. You could see the embarrassment on his face when we walked past him. I think he noticed us comment when he was ordering it, it was hilarious. The waitresses we had were both friendly and fast. I never went without coffee in my cup and cream in the container in front of me. If we go back to the Old Forge area again and I'm sure we will, I wouldn't hesitate a second to go back. I suggest if you can sit at the counter sit around the left or right as far back as possible so you can watch the cooks work. It's almost poetic. read more

I stopped here for breakfast on a recommendation from a local. I was delightfully impressed. The place is very unassuming but the food is good and at a reasonable price. The waitress was very nice and did a great job. They were a little busy but my food came out faster than I expected anyway. The food was very good with decent portions that taste great. I will definitely stop in for breakfast again! If you're looking for a casual place that serves breakfast and lunch at a reasonable price then this is the place for you! read more

They serve the biggest pancakes I've ever seen. Seriously, you'd have to be training for some type of he-man competition to go for the "big stack," which is three of these whoppers. We had pancakes, roasted potatoes, corn beef hash, bacon, and eggs. Corn beef hash was perfect, almost creamy. Delicious. Pancake, in addition to being bigger than my head, was also delicious. Potatoes were really well seasoned, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Our server was wonderful. When we came in, the place was packed to the gills, but it didn't really delay our service at all, which we appreciated. read more

Sat outside on busy summer Sunday and had a delicious lunch. Service was both friendly and fast. I had a fish platter and was very happy. I didn't venture too far inside but i like he open counters and watching the grills. Restaurants really only have one chance to make a good impression. If you don't enjoy Walt's then you're the problem. We are year round weekend residents in Old Forge and have experienced all the seasons. You'll likely wait for a table in peak seasons or you'll walk in like we did last weekend. The staff hustle. Period. My favorites are the corned beef hash and the grilled banana bread. Very good local diner in the heart of Old Forge. We walked in, and the kitchen is in the middle of the room. Very neat thing to see. We were promptly seated and our waitress took our drink order. Coffee was great, and endless refills. I had a sausage and cheddar omelette with corned beef hash. The food was outstanding, portions were huge, and service was fast. Visited Old Forge this past weekend. Rainy and nothing to do in the offseason there. Few restaurants open in this little town. Walt's Diner offered a typical American diner experience. I ate breakfast here on Saturday morning. The food was excellent. Eggs, toast, corned beef hash were delightful. Good coffee too. Waitress seemed a little tired/annoyed but seemed to just be her personality. They have table and counter seating. I saw a fellow diners pancake and it was the size of a pizza. I would eat here again. Ample sized parking lot next to Billy's and the package store, or street parking. read more

When you are absolutely tired of trying to figure out where to go to eat while you are on vacation, Walt's is a great back up plan. The food was really good and portion size was perfect. We were there right about at the cross over for breakfast and lunch, we decided on lunch and had a couple great sandwiches and their fries were seasoned just perfectly. Staff was super friendly. The prices were steep, but not out of the ordinary for Old Forge area and it is a bit loud and cramped in there. Even with its little negatives we will eat at Walt's again. read more

Nice spot and good location.. but, the wait staff seemed ' green' which there's nothing wrong with, except forgetting a salad, spilling water, and at times either being too attentive or not enough(poor girl was probably new). The special of a blackened steak with greens and cheesy fries was pounded thin leaving zero juices, out of greens for the night, and no cheese on the fries.. full price for the dish charged. Another 'on the board' special was supposed to be with mashed potatoes. It came with french fries. The salad was 3 items; watery iceberg lettuce, tomato, and onion. That's it. I can't blame them for trying, but the location is the only reason it's in business. Unfortunately, not worth your dollar. read more

Stopped in for breakfast on a weekday morning. We were seated right away and food came out quick. Waitress was so nice and so were all of the patrons. And they have yummy blackberry jam packets for your toast! Unfortunately that is where the positives end. The coffee is awful which I have come to expect with a diner, but still upsetting. Eggs and bacon had absolutely no flavor. I ended up not finishing my bacon which is pretty much a cardinal sin. Stopped by for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was packed when we walked in but emptied out pretty quickly. My husband and I both had the fish sandwich that was very fresh and flavorful. The others with us had the Italian sausage sandwich special that looked good and a Delmonico steak sandwich. Fresh cut fries were nice and crisy - tough to do with a fresh cut. My mother in law said the bathrooms are unisex and were dirty but given how busy they were when we came in, I can't imagine they had time to worry about cleaning them. I think I liked the Adirondack Cafe better when we stopped by a mont or so ago but for a diner experience, Walt's was a good bet. read more

My mom walked in at a time when it wasn't busy and she and her party sat down to order drinks (tea/ lemonade). They were refused service and told tables were for eating customers only. They were told if they were drinking, and not eating, they had to sit at the bar. This was a party of three retired women being asked to climb bar stools when there were SEVERAL tables open. They decided to leave and as they were walking out, they were told they could sit at a table but if someone else came and wanted food they would have to move. Is there no respect left in this country? I will never visit this establishment. Shame on you. read more

Walts has a cool atmosphere like a diner should, and the wait staff is very friendly as well. The food is nothing to jump up and down about but it's not bad either, and for the price I think it's pretty decent. It has a nice spot to sit and watch the passers by.
