I'd been to Wally's a few times when it was located in the strip mall on 90th and Penn but hadn't been to their new location until recently. The new setup and lay out of the restaurant is really nice but seems out of place in the office building it's located in now. I can only speak to the roast beef sandwiches here and have to say they are top notch. You can also ask for their BBQ and horseradish sauces to accompany your sandwich as well if au jus or cheese aren't your thing. read more

please note the address - they have relocated. roast beef sandwiches here are the best. i discovered this place a long time ago due to an article in the sun current. they had some crazy special like $1 sandwiches or something so i gave it a try. instantly loved it. i no longer live in the minneapolis area but make a big effort to get here anytime i am in town. i was in mpls for work a few weeks ago and stopped in. i get a roast beef plain, then dress it with horseradish and pickles. also get fries and chocolate shake. all in all one hell of a meal. the prices have increased over the years but it is still reasonable. have gotten then blue plate special in the past and that is good as well. if you are in the area i would suggest you give this place a try - it may look like a dive but its good. read more

I just ate there on 9/6/14, and wanted to try the roast beef because of the reviews and I had high expectations. I got the 2/$5.99 daily special for that day. It was not as good as I was thinking....the sandwiches were already wrapped and sitting under heat, plus the beef and au jus was not very flavorful compared to another roast beef eating establishment I have frequented. It was still so-so for a smaller sandwich though, and I heated the other one up when I got home and it was much better hot, than lukewarm. My customer service experience was lacking during this visit .Maybe I will try it again in the future, but I won't go out of my way to do it. read more

I searched Yelp for sandwich joints near my office building and stumbled across this gem. I ordered the blue plate special to go, and was not disappointed! Really good sandwich. Great gravy and potatoes. I'm dinging them 1 star because the corn was terrible. I think it came straight out of a can without even being heated first. It really had that old canned taste to it. Everything else was outstanding though! I would have like to have the bread toasted for an open faced sandwich but thats just a nitpick. I'll see if they can do that for me next time, since I'll definitely be back! read more

My boyfriend brought me here despite my mood, not to eat heavy, brown roast beef. At first, I ordered an open faced hot beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. He ordered a roast beef sandwich with bacon, topped it with hot melted cheddar cheese, and horseradish and fries. I took a few bites of mine, then I tried his. Mmmmm...was my exact response, We threw out the rest of mine and my boyfriend bought me a new sandwich like his. It was sooooo good! LOVE WALLY'S! had to take a break from there because i was going too much! Service is usually quick depending on what you order. If you order anything outside of the hot plates or roast beef or fries, you will wait for a little bit. The french dip and philly are massive and very filling. Make sure you put some creamy horseradish on there because it adds that little kick every roast beef sandwich needs! Always busy and not too far from work. My co-worker told me about this place and took me here a few years back and I really enjoyed the small town feel it had even though it was pretty busy with the lunch crowd. I had the classic roast beef sandwich and fries with a side of cheese sauce and a chocolate milk shake. I thought it was neat how the spoke the order to the back kitchen by speaking into the microphone right next to their register and you saw them carving the roast beef right behind the order takers and you could tell that the fries were made fresh. I have since brought my parents there because they really miss the local owned restaurants that they grew up with back in IL and so they really loved this place and usually make up some excuse to come up around my work around the lunch hour and then suggest that we go to Wally's for lunch. read more

For this type of establishment, this was as good as it gets. The food was great. The roast beef sammys rocked. The horseradish sauce, which I usually hate anywhere else, was phenomenal. I also tried a burger, and it was very good. They actually cooked it medium rare, which is rare in places like this. Usually you get something more resembling a petrified piece of wood than a tasty, juicy, well-cooked burger. Also, the service was the best. Super friendly employees who were clearly well trained. I've heard about this place many times and actually drove by today while out and about so I decided to stop. It's located on the 1st floor of a business office but the space is open, and very lit up but the atmosphere is quite casual. Similar to a diner feel but brighter. I dropped in about 12:30 and there were two people in line but the cashier got to me quickly. I really wanted a burger, but also ordered the roast beef for later because duh: its Wally's Roast Beef. I also ordered crispy cheese fries because, it's snowing and I'm depressed so don't judge my lunch choices today, please. Let me first say, the burger, was a no go for me. Not sure what I expected, a diner burger I guess, and that would've been better than this. This was a basic cheeseburger, but with a strange textured meat and a soft sesame seed bun. I only took two bites then I had to throw it out. If the bun and burger have the same texture it creeps me out. I admit I'm also a burger snob. I wouldn't order a burger again from Wally's. The roast beef samich which I added cheddar and bacon to, was good, nothing amazing, but good. My only complaint is the bacon was uncooked, still pink. I pulled it off because bacon should not be transparent and floppy. The fries were good, very crispy and salty, but the cheese sauce was watered down and very bland. I guess I wasn't a fan of this place. I hope others have better luck! read more

If you're looking for good old-fashioned American food, Wally's is the best! Best cheeseburgers in the Twin Cities, hands down. I could (and sometimes do!) eat one every day of the week. Their cookies are also spectacular, always soft and never hard and old. I didn't care for their roast beef sandwich; personally, I like Arby's better, and think Wally's should rename themselves Wally's Cheeseburgers! Their garden salads are also excellent. I wish I could review more of the menu, but their cheeseburgers are so good, I have a hard time ordering anything else! Overall: GREAT food, unheard of prices for unheard of quantities. I have been going to Wallys since they were on 90th Street and Penn ave so. since around 1978 and have never been disappointed. When they moved to their current location they maintained the same high standards of food. They changed owners a few months ago and Alex, the new owner, had kept the original menu items intact as well as adding a few new items like Swedish Meatballs. They have great shakes and malts and if you want a change up from their delicious roast beef, then give the Smoky Turkey sandwich a try. It's got turkey, real cheddar cheese, and bacon on it and it's really good ! read more

I love roast beef commercials/hot sandwiches. Had a couple of bad experiences in ordering these at other restaurants. so I thought I would try wally's FAMOUS roast beef after dropping my son and family off at the airport. Bad mistake!!!! First it is a fast food restaurant, that's ok I guess if the food is good. Unfriendly atmosphere. It was awful.... Most of the sandwich and potatoes were cold like it just came from the fridge, parts of it was luke warm. The gravy had no flavor, tasted like thick water..... roast beef was NOTHING great...I'll never go back again!!! They do serve other food but I can't comment on that. read more

So I stopped here for lunch one day, it was a little after the main run but still busy. I ordered the blue plate special, the meat in my sandwich was cold, the potatoes were chilly, Lumpy and had skins in them, the only decent thing was the corn which probably came from a can. The prices weren't bad (portions were very large) and if the food had been hot, it might have been good. I don't think I'll give it another chance though. read more

I have been going to Wally's for years and years and I have always been happy with my meal and service. Lately I have come in to the restaurant and every time I order a Roast Beef sand-which the meat has been so rare and they barely add any meat to the bun anymore. I get like two slices of really rare, cold beef and it just isn't appetizing. Several people that I know that go there have also noticed the lack of Beef on the sand-which and that it is extremely rare roast beef, and the hot sandwiches are never served hot. Maybe they will realize when some customer gets food poisoning from there rare sandwich that it just isn't appetizing anymore. read more
