As my handful of Yelp fans know, I reserve one star reviews for scams where I have given the business three tries to make things right and they failed - and where it is simply not feasible for me to sue them. In this case, I placed an order on Walgreens.com for 12 items and was willing to pay a shipping charge since there were 12 items and I could spread out the relatively high shipping charge across those items. When the items arrived, guess what? there were only five items - but they still charged me the full shipping charge and cancelled the rest of the order. Had I known that they would do this, I never would have placed the order. I would've placed it from a competing company. When I called Customer Service and asked for a proportional refund of the shipping charge, I was told that there was no way to refund it because I had not ordered enough items to trigger free shipping. They also told me that I had ordered an out of stock item - but there was no way for me to know that I had ordered an out of stock item because the website didn't tell me that the item was out of stock. This seems like a relatively straightforward scam: allow the customer to place an order that cannot possibly be fulfilled, then charge the customer a surcharge which cannot be refunded, then deliver the customer less than what they had ordered and give only a partial refund. When I asked who was responsible on the customer service call, they told me that the items did come from the store so that is why this is the place that is receiving the one star review. But I suspect that the Walgreens e-commerce team is the guilty party here. In any case it looks like my one star review won't do much additional damage to this location since it is already in the dumps on Yelp. I DO NOT recommend coming to this Walgreens for a prescription fill/refill. There is so many people that come here and the pharmacy is not organized at all. If you read my reviews, you know that I only like to do positive reviews but the service has been really bad!! We waited an hour and they told us it would be 10 minutes, after 35 minutes, we walked up and the guy said, it is still not ready. Finally after an hour I walked up and asked if it was going to be any longer, if so we could come back and he said that they didn't realize that we were waiting And they didn't fill our prescription so then we had to wait, another 5 minutes he said....the guy at the counter laughed. 30 minutes later we are still waiting. I came last week Thursday to refill my prescription, they said it would be ready Tuesday by 5pm. I came back Tuesday to find out it's delayed. The pharmacy said they will call me when it's ready but should be good to go by Wednesday. It is now Friday and I have no prescription. I called and the African woman in the pharmacy quickly answered and put me on hold with out asking me what I needed. I called the store and they walked back to the pharmacy and told them to pick up the phone. The Mexican woman answered the phone and told me that my prescription was out of order and they don't know when they would get it back in. She did not care, she did not try to accommodate me, they did not tell me I can transfer my prescription to another store, they did not calls other store to check if they had it. I am out of medication which is dangerous for me and my condition. I am switching pharmacy because they do not care, they do not pick up the phone and they hang up on you. read more

I'm writing this review while I have been waiting at the pharmacy pick up window for at least twenty minutes, and still fourth person on the line. Hopefully the prescription I've been notified by text message this morning is actually filled and my waiting is worthwhile. I've been using this pharmacy in the past eight years, but in the last 6-8 months it been very poorly managed. There have been number of trips on which I've been told to come back next day, even though the system have already informed me the prescription have been filled. There was a case when after a minor surgery I needed an antibiotic filled in within the same day. It was sent to them, but since they didn't fill it in I had to go after hours to another Walgreens pharmacy in El Cerrito which is open late and where it was done right away. Eventually, what I did is moving to Costco pharmacy. But they still filled the prescription, even after I opted out of their services. That speaks how disorganized everything is! Few months back I requested to speak to the pharmacist in charge. She explained that she had taken two weeks vacation around the holidays and therefore they are backed up. Miraculously, today my prescription was ready for pick up and the over 30 min I had to carve out of my busy afternoon were worth it. However, I hope not to be back. read more

Because it's white chocolate pumpkin cinnamon chai latte season, it's bound to be vaccine time too. After finding no appointments at the pharmacies that I usually visit, I was delighted to discover that this Walgreen's had same-day appointments for vaccinations! I drove down to check in as directed (15-minutes before my appointment time) and left about 75 minutes later. The good news is that I ended up getting vaccinated; the bad news is that a good friend who also had an appointment ended up leaving empty-shouldered because the personnel was never able to verify that her insurance worked. Had I consulted this business's Yelp page ahead of time, I would have refrained from signing up and would have waited for an appointment elsewhere. While cooling my heels at this location, I read a string of one-star reviews from fellow yelpers who had tried to do business when the pharmacy. One-star reviews! Yelp has been subject to mega grade inflation; when I read reviews of a random business, most award four or five stars. You have to be seriously angry to leave one-star review; this location has managed to anger pretty much everyone. Amazingly, when I returned home I noticed that *all* local Walgreens have two-star Yelp averages (and presumably plenty of negative comments). There's something seriously wrong with this business; is management trying to run it into the ground? Back to my recent experience. When I first showed up, there was only one customer ahead of me. After I presented myself for my appointment, it took the pharmacists an amazingly long time to verify that my insurance would pay for the vaccine that I had requested. Then I had to wait even more time before the pharmacist delivered the shot. Meanwhile, a big line formed behind me for the personnel on duty. While hanging out, I overhead plenty of conversations like those reported in previous Yelp reviews: prescriptions that were reported to be ready but couldn't be found, insurance hiccups, other miscues. The pharmacists seemed to be spending most of their time typing with one finger, moving from keyboard to keyboard and consulting with each other about things that weren't working. As the pharmacist administered my injection, he told me repeatedly that I was the "lucky one" because he was able to get authorization for my shot. I want to emphasize that the pharmacist seemed to be especially skilled at administering the vaccine. I had no soreness in my arm the next morning and thought that he was a five-star inoculator. read more

Since the beginning of this year Walgreens at Gilman was my "preferred" pharmacy because of my new insurance. What a sh**t show down there! Most recently they sent me a text last Tuesday telling me that they had received my script and it was in process. I never heard from them again. I called them on Saturday and they said it wasn't there anymore as I hadn't picked it up. (Possibly a bs excuse.). But they said I could come down and get it and they were filling it now. When I got there it turned out they didn't have the amount they had a prescription for and I could have 4 and come back for the rest. I should have had 60. I declined and took the 58 (only 2 short), and they told me I would not be able to come back for the two they owed me as insurance wouldn't cover it...I just took the stuff, knowing I would never come back. One of the two pharmacists was talking to me, but I couldn't tell as she was far away and had a large mask on. I couldn't even tell if she WAS talking to me.... Another time they took weeks to get me some pain meds. Always a long line and very, very slow service. I will go back to CVS who I now appreciate as they are very efficient in their pharmacy dept. After closing the Ashby/San Pablo Walgreens, our prescriptions were transferred to the Gilman store. It was ok at first but then there were random days when the pharmacy was closed due to staffing. It made getting our meds difficult. Now it's an even bigger struggle because they've temporarily closed the pharmacy and I have no meds left. There's no mention of transferring to another Walgreens. If you have a standing relationship with your CA based, telehealth provider, and are told by the pharmacist that you cannot get a prescription filled unless it is written by a Bay Area provider, this is incorrect. If you move your prescription elsewhere, (in this case my provider sent it to a CVS) you will not experience this. It was a stressful, upsetting situation to be challenged by the pharmacist about whether my prescription ought to get filled. This appears to be specifically due a Walgreens policy shift. I could have entirely avoided arguments, on two occasions with different pharmacists, had I known so I'm offering it here. The rest has already been said by others here: a minimum 45 minute long line throughout most of the day; you can wait indefinitely on hold on the phone to speak with a pharmacist as they do not have enough staff to answer phones and fill the scripts; if you use the Walgreens online prescription app, you still need to also show up to the store, stand on the line, ask for it again, and wait (usually 30 minutes and can be more) for them to fill it. Last thing to say is how much my heart hurts to watch some elder people and folks with physical impairments endure these lines and wait times, and sometimes being declined their medication when they finally approach the counter. Communities among us are disproportionately negatively harmed by this kind of neglect by the store. read more

This rating is entirely based on my (and others) experience at the pharmacy. This was a complete shit sho*. After receiving my "pick up" email for my prescriptions, I went to the Walgreens. First day, I was met with a sign at 1PM stating "Pharmacy closed due to no staffing" I returned a few days later, this time at about 9:30 AM. After waiting for 20 minutes in a line and witnessing many disgruntled people unable to get their meds, one man came for his booster and was told "sorry we don't have any vaccines" he responded with "but, i have a confirmed appointment." There was no attempt to reschedule him. Another woman stated she'd had a seizure bc of the failure to get her meds from Walgreens. Another elderly woman was turned away when she tried to get both of her prescriptions at the same time. When it was my turn, I was told rudely that my insurance information was wrong by the main Pharmacist (a White man with glasses) and that Id have to get the right information from my insurance. I assured him that it was correct, that the card was printed at the end of January 2022 and that i have been to multiple doctors appointments. He/they refused to help me and told me to call my insurance. 20 minutes later on the phone with my insurance company, they stated that my card information was correct and that Walgreens was wrong. They put me on hold to try and call the pharmacy but couldn't get through because the message they got was that the pharmacy wasn't opened until 11 am. Finally i had to cut in line and put my phone on speaker so that the pharmacist could talk to my insurance company who repeated the same information that was on my card. However, given all of this, I was told that I still couldn't get my medicine until the next day or i'd have to go to another walgreens. Unfortunately I was unable to make it in time to stop a major migraine episode from coming on. It is unbelievable to me how people were treated at the pharmacy. This is the worst pharmacy I've ever encountered in my life. The last five times I've picked up a prescription I've received an email saying it's ready, then when I arrive they have no idea what I'm talking about. I then have to wait 45 minutes for them to fill it. They never answer their phone. Be prepared to wait an hour if you try to call. I'm currently trying to transfer my prescriptions to another pharmacy. I've filed the order. Called four times. They still haven't transferred the script and it's now four days later. I'm currently on hold (have been for 30 minutes) to once again ask them to transfer the perscriptions as requested. Don't even bother try to refill it online, or on the phone, phone they don't answer, and online they lie. Second hour was waiting in line to get the refill. Their hours are not accurate at their lunch break was until 2:45. Also the person who is ringing us up deserves the CEO's salary for all the stress she has to deal with. I formerly had prescriptions filled at Pharmaca, and when I learned they were closing and transferring my prescriptions to Walgreens, I authorized Alto Pharmacy to request transfer to them from Walgreens. That was nearly 3 weeks ago, they've received several requests from Alto, and the transfer still has not been made. Since I needed a refill and couldn't get it, my doctor had to initiate a new prescription (it's a good thing it wasn't urgent). In healthcare, this kind of a delay is unacceptable. read more

Came to pick up paxlovid for a friend. Online schedule says pharmacy closed 1:30-2:00 for lunch. Sign next to pharmacy window says closed 1:00-2:00 for lunch. A third sign (that I and the five other people waiting in line with me right now did not see) says closed 1:00-2:30 for lunch. No fault to the individual employees but Walgreens as a company needs to do better. Without warning, they recently acquired a local pharmacy, Pharmaca, that did not have these issues. Would have gone there if I could. Walgreen's gave no notice to Pharmaca employees, no severance, and will not be hiring them. read more
