This store is walking distance from my house and feels like it's meant to exist to tease me. Need deodorant? Locked. A cough drop? Locked. Soap? Locked. The pharmacists may tell you to get something over the counter, but then cannot unlock it. They have handy hand "need help buttons" that do nothing. If you walk up to an employee and ask them to unlock things, about 80% of the time you'll get the response of "I don't have a key" or "I'll call someone" and you'll keep waiting for Godot. I'll give props to the 20% of employees who will actually work with you. If you'd like some cheddar cheese I guess you can get that without facing the escape room experience. So I guess come here if you want a small selection of canned soups and cheddar. Otherwise, consider that it may be faster to order something online than to come to this store and peruse their locked merchandise. read more

I can't praise the folks who work here highly enough. TEN stars? Others have mentioned the desert that inhabited this space for years after Andronico's closed. What this Target has offered is wise, kind, generous help by folks who have those qualities deeply held. This morning Pat was her usual outstanding helpful self to me, and I also saw her praise a new employee for how she handled a transaction. Julia and Theresa are stars. And there are others whose nametags I don't see as often. Today I bought some organic produce and so value that it's available. Target is my go-to place for all household supplies and some OTC meds. In short, it has almost everything I need. I think it important to emphasize the value of the store and its personnel in this era. Went to target after work and wanted to purchase facial products and detergent instead was yelled at by employee that she was going to get fired for not having an online order done in time, she had an hour apparently, it would have taken less than a minute to get my intended products. Olay face lotion and a scrub instead of yelling at me that she was too busy. Mind you I'm in the store, I took the time to go to the store. I will take my business where it is welcomed. A smaller Target store in Berkeley, I guess this was the only way to fit one in here!! Although small, they pack a lot in here, there is also a CVS pharmacy inside the store. The good thing is you won't spend too much time in here because if they have what you want, you can be up out quick. If they don't have what you want, you can still be outta here quickly, not a browsing type of store. The parking lot is behind the store, and it is small also. It's a nice store, but don't try to shop the women's lingerie dept. The underwear drawers are labeled, but the contents are a mis-mash of all different sizes. If you find something you want and it's not your size, you have to paw through all the drawers - no matter their size label - to find what you want---maybe. The racks of bras are the same-would be nice if those little color coded tabs on the top of the hangers were actually color coded so is you're a 34, you look for blue, 36, you look for pink, etc. What a mess! I don't need to spend my time searching your inventory. I gave up and left. People wonder why nobody is shopping in the store as opposed to on line? THIS is why! This is a tiny target but every time I come here I'm able to find something that I can't get at other Target stores. And I appreciate that. The first time I went to this store, I was unnerved by the fact that there was only one person working the register area and that the checkout was all self-checkout. I did appreciate the ability to charge my phone for free. But I walked away with two cardigans - one navy blue and the other one black. So I was happy. This time, I came for some hair ties and found them. I'm glad for this because they are not as big and mighty as Emeryville, Richmond, or Pinole, but in a pinch, I get what I want and I thank them for that. read more

Worst Target ever. In complete disarray. I went in shopping for one thing: cough syrup. Waited for them to unlock the cabinet. Then found out after 15 minutes that an adult can not buy ANY adult cough syrup without an ID in hand. It wasn't just for the ephedrine or pseudoephedrine containing cough syrups, and not one employee in the store could figure out that the payment systems were incorrectly coded to require an ID to purchase ALL adult cough syrups. This Target is more like a third of a Target, with a fake Starbucks inside, and a CVS. During our visits the CVS has always been perfectly fine - unless you're filling a prescription it's exactly like visiting a pharmacy aisle in Target. The Starbucks is a hard pass though. The cashier never fully wears a mask and tends to get wrapped up in chatting with visitors. The Target itself is quite nice. It's always clean and orderly, and while it's not as fully flushed out as the Target near Richmond, it does the job if you just need something simple like bedding, or clothing. I don't love the way checkout / self check out is set up, with you having to be in the same line for both with very little room if you have quite a few things to bag (thus the loss of a star). But there's always space in the parking lot and hand sanitizer available on your way out. We're not here that often, but when we visit this Target it solidly does the job. read more

Prices are high, store is crammed. Parking lot is crammed and the store is crammed full of Karen's in a rush. It's mostly self checkout. The service counters should not be so close the self check out lines. It creates a problem for customers trying to leave. I couldn't browse through the entire store because I couldn't find any deals, I will say they were pretty well stocked. Long story short, I wouldn't recommend this particular target for anyone. It's poorly designed and the vibe is way off. Everyone is bumping into each other and you'll have to walk up and down an awkward set of steps to get in and or out. It is small, but my kitty litter, dog treats, sodas, and my favorite toilet paper we're ready for pickup. There's curbside service I passed on. Love the huge parking lot which makes picking up prescriptions easy and seamless unlike the downtown Berkeley store. The staff is always friendly! As well there is a Starbucks inside and bathrooms which is so convenient. They also have great sales on a lot of their grocery items, and it's always fresh! read more

This is definitely the smallest target I've seen (at least from the outside, I didn't even make it in lol) but I've never experienced such a small parking lot or just a Target of this size in general. Anyways, ordered a gift for Christmas from this location for pick up and it was ready within 1 hour. When showing up for pick up the employees were outside within 5 minutes (even during Black Friday/cyber Monday weekend deals) It was super easy to find the drive up area and although small, there was a lot of parking available in the lot. This store is easily accessible from University or Addison. It is a smaller Target, but offers Starbucks and CVS Pharmacy. Checkout is self service. However, you can use a cashier if you really need to. Masks are required in store and a security guard is present in the afternoon and evenings. read more

A smaller Target that I often go to for its location convenience. It's quite smaller than the typical Targets given it's within the city of Berkeley. And given that it's a Target, not too much to note except these: The store is generally self-checkout unless you buy alcohol. Some items are often unstocked, which is the only reason I'm docking a star. Specifically dairy -- I've gone here for milk a few times but left without any. Every interaction I've had with every employee here has been super positive. Once one of the workers even let me know when the milk shipment was going to restock. Tl;dr - I'm only writing this review because Target needs more staff if they are going to maintain half the aisles under lockdown. Otherwise, it's going to become not worth shopping here. I shop here frequently because I live in the neighborhood. It is well stocked for its size and it's great for families in terms of the kid aisles and general household, personal care items. The staff are typically very helpful and nice. I understand why they've put so many aisles behind locked cases, but they need more staffing. It's impossible to shop quickly in this store anymore, rendering its former "convenience" for less so. It takes 10 minutes and upwards to get something basic like toothpaste unlocked. The only solution is adding more staff if the locked aisles are staying in place. read more

Items in the store consistently ring up at a higher price than what is listed on the shelf. I made two separate trips to pick up a few products. The first time, I thought it was just a mistake in their inventory. I check the price on the shelf, and then noticed that the self checkout rang it up 50 cents higher. I had to wait in a separate line for a person, and they honored the price on the shelf. Not a big deal, but I certainly don't want to be forced to check every single item every single time. On the next trip, I pick up some Triscuits. And they rang up 40 cents higher than listed on the shelf. This time, I just left without purchasing. What are the odds that I pick two consecutive items that have a shelf price mismatch? (someone with a math degree?). I get that in the digital age, the shelf stickers are a pain to keep up to date. Target adjusts their in-store prices quite frequently. In their system, they were able to see the cheaper price, but only after I requested a "price match guarantee" (that term infuriates me when it is a price listed on the shelf in the same store where I am currently shopping). All the employees I spoke to were professional and considerate. But if you are a price shopper, I suggest some place other than Target on University. read more

Stood in an aisle for 10 minutes after ringing the button for someone to unlock the deodorant for me. No one came after spamming the button about 50 times. Finally walked to the checkout are and asked someone to unlock it for me. The employee behind the counter called for someone on his walkie talkie so I walked back to the aisle only to wait for another five minutes without anyone coming. At this point there were 5 people in the aisle waiting for someone with keys to come along. 5 more minutes passed until someone finally came. In total I waiting about 20 minutes for the case to be unlocked. Pretty lousy that this hot dog water of a store has EVERYTHING locked up. read more

Woohoo! Walking to Target, with my feet 10 feet from dark chocolate, now I'm walking in Target, but do I really the feel like chocolate bark or chocolate bars? ( to the tune of walking in Memphis ) This Target is just a goshdurn super functional and convenient addition to the local neighborhood, dontchyaknow? It's like everything a normal target has, but just the key selection of stuff that everybody needs the most. There is a little bit of every section except for alcohol. It's all self check out so that makes sense-- except they do have somebody there watching if you get into trouble with the self checkout machine, why can't that person be carding people who are buying alcohol, too? I would love to buy some local craft beer here at the very least. They have a huge selection of grocery items which take up about half the store. You can get everything you need for a week of groceries, including produce, meat, dairy, and plenty of frozen items and canned goods. The store is very clean and well mapped out and hard to get lost in. I didn't even lose the person I was with for once. In that one way I think this might be the short-bus target. Go here with somebody who always gets lost in a shopping mall-- it will be their first time not being a loosey-goosey (that's what The mall cops call you when you get lost at the mall, I'm serious! it was like a code he spoke into his walkie-talkie. No reason for any of that here at target express, it's just a quick express trip through target. Oh and they have Toblerone bars the size of a baseball bat. Anyone up for a game? read more

It's new! It's shiny! It's Target! Practically spitting distance away from the other Target Express on Shattuck, this fresh outpost is possibly even smaller, if you can imagine. Considering the limited shelf space, it hardly seems worth stopping in for even a quick grocery run. Very few fresh food options, only the most rudimentary cleaning supplies, and unremarkable (if generally reasonable) prices. Considering how close by Trader Joe's is, I can't imagine a time when you wouldn't be able to hold out for another block, no matter your shopping needs. Worst of all is the checkout situation. Emphasis is placed on the self-scanning kiosks which are programmed to automatically abort the mission the moment it detects a barcode. Long lines, long waits, long faces seem to be inevitable. read more

This is a smaller target store the size of a Walgreens. A larger Target store close by is in Albany. I prefer the smaller store. I use it more as a grocery store, for pharmacy, Starbucks & hair products. I take less time and gtfo. Prices are always less online. Sometimes I use pick up in store and leave in under 2 minutes. Obviously there are numerous items the larger Targets carry. The concept of smaller stores is great. This store is self-checkout. I don't mind that. It's a common business practice today. My roommate and I went to target today to pick up some household necessities. When we checked out, we both had gift cards - but both of the gift cards had big problems. Julio went above and beyond to make sure that we could use our gift cards and went through the process of having us return everything and change the payment method. When my gift card ultimately didn't end up working, he gave me a new gift card with a similar dollar value to replace it. All while being incredibly sympathetic and kind. Thanks Julio!!! Not following COVID-19 safety protocols. Walking up to Target I passed by the loading bay and one worker had zero face covering with 6 others masked up. I came in to get a pick up order and the worker at the register was obviously pregnant and had her entire nose hanging out of her mask. Picture below. As I pulled out my phone to document the irony, right behind me was the worker ( maybe management?) who was the one in the back loading bay without a mask. I find it interesting that I would not be allowed in the door without my face covered, but I am forced to interact with an employee locked and loaded, ready to sneeze on me and my pick up order. Recently moved to Berkeley about a month ago thought I scored when I found out there was a Target close by seeing as though that's my go to store since moving to the states. The store is quite small but has all the basic necessities. I've always been the type of person who shops regularly at local stores that are near by so I find myself here quite often. I'm not sure if this occurance causes red flags but after a couple visits I noticed that the team members would float around me quite often without saying anything to me coincidently in almost every aisle I would be in. This particular instance I walked in with my baby in the stroller and immediately I see security running towards the doors I entered. It was off putting for sure seeing as though they did not greet me as I walked in. I shopped around and went to self check out as usual and that's when things got strange the security were stating specific items that I had inside of my basket stating he had "to chase someone outside with their stroller" that's when I was like okay they are definitely categorizing me as someone who is looking to steal from their establishment. I purchase my items and then leave as I'm walking home I notice my non potty trained 1 year old had a bag of big boy underwear in his hands that I did not purchase (if you have a toddler You know how common this is) so I immediately head back to return them. Upon entering the store the security and a woman are standing in the front she greets me with a "what's up" I explain to her the situation and my concernn with the security guards statements. She states " I have all of my guys do rounds" "It is Berkeley after all"............... I was left flabbergasted is this what have to look forward to being a woman of color in Berkeley? I will state the importance of professionalism that should occur regardless of assumptions you have about someone. It's important to remain mindful of how you treat others especially in the work field I am Bey T very well known performing artist in Kenya.
