I have a soft spot for this Richmond store - I almost always find it to have a chill atmosphere and it's rarely crowded, especially if you go a little later in the evening. They play fun music that sometimes makes people spontaneously break into song and dance in the aisles. Okay, maybe I'm painting an exaggerated picture here - it's not like a musical - you need to go to the Oakland store for that level of engagement ;) The Richmond store aisles also feel a bit more spacious than other branches of the GO and staff members are usually friendly. Anyway, the Grocery Outlet is becoming increasingly useful for anyone on a budget (check out Ethical Bargains) and especially anyone who's trying to adopt a more sustainable, plant-based diet. Meat and dairy substitutes can be expensive, so this is one of my main reasons for going. The other is red wine - it can be a lot of fun trying to find excellent wines there and some are on sale for a fifth of the normal price. Current wine tip: Sebastiani winery. Overall, I think that the Grocery Outlet deserves 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on these factors: * Stocking food that would otherwise be in danger of being tossed out because of packaging changes, overstock, imperfections, or looming expiration dates, is part of a solution to the huge problem of food waste. Around 30% of food is wasted globally, contributing 8% of greenhouse gas emissions. * GO stores have been trending towards stocking more plant-based and organic food. * The Grocery Outlet stocks a good number of brands that rate well, ethically. For example, Miyoko's, Cascadian Farm, Dr. Bronner's soap, Treeline vegan cheese, Beyond Good chocolate, etc.) * The Grocery Outlet brings plant-based food (meat substitutes like Beyond Burgers) within reach for those on a budget who want to live a more sustainable life. read more

Grocery Outlets are franchises and they have common products, but each store has their own buyers and can get items that other stores might not carry. After having dinner at one our regular place, Google maps directed us north this time to get onto the freeway. After traveling two blocks, we came across this Grocery Outlet and had to check it out. It was a stand- alone store and it had its own large parking lot. This store is large, spacious with wide aisles compared to typical stores. Large displays of items and there were many hot buys and deals. The refrigerated section of produce, meats, deli and dairy covered the back wall of the store. The store was well stocked and carries a lot of inventory in each category, so you get a lot of options here. Scored on mangos at $.50, Guinness pretzels at $.50 and 22oz organic granola for $1.99. This is one of the better GO stores that I've shopped. A good store choice for you Grocery Outlet shoppers if you're in the area. read more

Updating my review as I've started shopping here on and off again. If you're okay with varying brands and items each time you visit, you can save money here, just not on everything. This is not the place for brand loyal people who always want to buy the same brands of items. They are friendly here and the location and store layout is good. read more

HOW IS THIS STORE rated 4-stars? They might be paid for or friends and family of the people who work here. NO WAY is this a 4-STAR grocery store. It is a disgusting, depressing store. They also have next to no grocery items for vegans and vegetarians. I drove a half hour out of my way to come here and tonight was the last time. I left the store empty-handed, because they had nothing of the items I used to be able to get at other Grocery Outlet stores. I can't fathom who this one caters to. So here is the thing. I like Grocery Outlet. But their communication when they've done a big no-no is bad-bad. I'm a regular shopper here. I appreciate the variety and dopamine hit when I am 'surprised' by novel products that are quite good deals. However, a situation that occurred recently leaves me no other recourse than to write about it here. Chicken. I bought chicken that was mismarked and didn't realize it until I got home that it (was marked as 7+ lbs when it was actually ~4 lbs), and this was was priced $6 more than it should have been. I returned to the store the next day and the cashier said they couldn't 'weigh' it on the check out lane scale (Huh?) then she did and said it was correct. I went back home. Then I weighed it myself, and indeed I was correct. I reached out to the store 2x by email explaining the situation - - and did not hear back. Called. Did not hear back. Tried to reach out to the owners. Did not hear back. So at this point - I still shop here but weigh the chicken on the veggie scales, but am disappointed that their customer service is so piss poor. That said, there are a couple of folks who work there who are super nice and helpful. This is a serious snafu. read more

I haven't been to grocery outlet since the one near 4th street closed. This one is solid and definitely has some bargains. The store is somewhat clean; pretty packed; the parking lot smelled a little bit like weed but oh well. I found the prices to be a solid markdown for: Cereal, especially specialty (like keto or low carb) varieties, most boxes 99c-2.99 Organic/ vegan chocolates (hu bars for $2.29, lily's seasonal chocolate bars for 99c, jojo's bars for 3.99 Candy in general- they had belly flops!! I'd only seen these at the jelly belly store in Vacaville Some other items were similarly priced at stores like target- Pacific farms soups 3.99 Tortillas Spring salad mix 4.99 Cough drops $2.50 (trader joe is cheaper) I probably would make this my weekly grocery store if I could help it but it's good when I want a bargain on some specialty items for sure. read more

This is the nicest Grocery Outlet I've been too. The place was clean. The items were nicely displayed. Per usual, the prices are better than typical grocery stores. The thing about Grocery Outlet is they frequently change inventory. They may have something this week and not the next. So when you stumble on a product you don't usually see, or an item that is too good to be true, grab a bunch of it. I want to give a big shoutout to the GO team! I was greeted with a smile and given a cart upon entry. When i went to checkout the cashier looked me in the eyes and said hello AND asked me if i was able to find everything ok. So often, many cashiers will just look down at the items they are scanning as they greet you with a dry 'hello'. It is so refreshing to receive a little hospitality. A hello, plus a smile is a simple task that can go a very long way! read more

They sell food, kitchen supplies, hair are, skincare, frozen food, and tons of dry foods. Lots of wine selection as well. We found A-Sha Taiwaneses noodles which are my favorite! What a great find. A few good deals, but they need to hire more cashiers. I've abandoned carts full of groceries here after getting to checkout and realizing it's going to take another 15-20 minutes just to get out the door. Meanwhile, they've got somebody posted at the exit 24/7 just to, what, notice shoplifters? You can only waste somebody's time so many times before they stop coming back. This was my last time. Also, watch out for the prices. On many items, they are not competitive at all, if not more expensive than average. read more

I don't know if this one is larger than the one in Oakland, but as my new "home" Grocery Outlet I loved the set up and of course the deals. Grocery Outlet has most of everything you need, so I often go here as my first choice and was happy with the selection in Richmond. As always the non dairy section is amazing, and I saw the vegan cheeses that I might one day try as I make my transition to non-dairy (as I type I'm prepping to make seafood pasta bake.... This will be a challenge). I will say that I noticed the grocery outlet in Oakland has a better selection on seafood and has for the past year, but that might be the only real difference. Fruit selection is stellar. The deal on avocados was amazing at 5 large avocados for $5. What more can I say other than if you live nearby, check this place out! read more

I've been to several other Outlet's and this one wins, hands down. The produce is on a par with Safeway but much more affordable. There is great variety and amazing buys at times. Just don't expect to find everything all the time: that's not the business model, which takes things that are being de-shelved, sometimes a year or more before the sell-by date, which reduces waste - another plus. read more

Come here to get some great deals on grocery purchases. They don't have the largest selection of fresh produce, but it's decent. Make sure to check expiration dates on dairy and egg products. You can get really great deals on items that are about to expire. And these sales occur near the end of the month. During covid, they do monitor the number of people in the store. Not everyone is the best at maintaining distances but at least everyone has a mask on. read more

I love GroceryOutlet! I come here all the time, and I just started using the app so that I could keep track of what I am purchasing. I find the store to be really well appointed, with a good variety of cheeses, vegan options, snacks, and other Tasty treats. I love this Grocery Outlet and kudos to any business who can who still can make it in this crazy economy. I appreciate this franchise owner for including as many plant-based products as they do. Lots of unique foods, some organic, many great buys. Their garden selection outside is also nice. Staff have always been kind and helpful. Never have had to wait in line for very long I've seen them add cashiers when needed. Agree that the "sentry" at the entrance may be a waste of resources but since shoplifting has been sanctioned by our governor (isn't the allowable threshold about $950 -- or just below $1000?) we're lucky to still have retail stores, especially ones independently owned and operated. They change their prices everyday and try to get over on customers. They are rude to customers as well.

I came to this location on a Thursday afternoon around 5:00pm. No COVID-19 line to get in; the employee at the door was letting everyone in when I arrived, but this ended up being a downside because the store had a ton of people! This ended up on a worse note when while I was loading my items to the checkout conveyor - a family wearing no masks was RIGHT behind me, within less than an arm's length. I politely told them to please keep a 6 feet distance, which they did not listen to. I know there's a lot going on but I feel like the cashiers or employees should be more vigilant to instances like this. Now onto the store itself - I have never been more pleasantly overwhelmed with the selection of a Grocery Outlet. Such a wide and excellent selection of products and higher-end items, like the Three Twins ice cream brand, Burt's Bees soaps, and Oatly oat milk just to name a few. Not the kind of grocery store where you come with a grocery list of ingredients needed for your meal prep for the week. Quite the opposite. The grocery outlet is truly for bargain hunters as it will tell you what ingredients you're going to buy because the deals are steals and then you figure out what the heck your going to make like you're on an episode of Chopped. If you find something and decide to give it a try, try it soon because if you love it you'll want to go back the next day and stock up as who knows what'll be there in a week or two. It's always an adventure! Parking is plenty big and though close by parking might be full, you'll have no issue parking and walking to the store. Depending on the time/day, the lines can be long and slow, but there's always goodies around you that you might've missed, so look around you as you wait in line to pay. read more

Most grocery stores are having long lines due to COVID-19. Today we happen to drive pass and saw there was no line at this grocery outlet. Maybe because it was raining. We run in and see there's an employee by the door wiping down each cart before he hands it to you, there was signs on the floor where to stand reminding customers to stand 6 feet away, and the grocery clerks had a makeshift plastic cover protecting them. Thank you Grocery outlet for protecting your employees and customers as best as you can. Every time we stop in here the employees treat you like family and they keep the store clean, organized and well stocked as best as they possibly can. My question is why isn't Safeway or other grocery stores making an effort to keep there employees and customers as safe as Grocery Outlet is? read more

I love this place. On top of there being discounted and reasonably priced organic and healthy products, albeit overstock and maybe underselling items from other box stores, it's a great place to keep the grocery bills down. Today I witnessed the door people stop a theft and even one of the folks face a bit of pushing and arguing. He did not back down. Guy pulled a bat from the side and was like "try me." Now, I'm not one for violence but when so many stores are charging customers for the rampant theft they experience in the Bay Area, this place is for real. Do not try to steal from them- they will approach you and they will make you give the stuff back. Good for them. read more

I prefer this location over the one on 23rd street. That one is skanky for sure. They have what I want, the store is nicely laid out and I can find what I want in a reasonable fashion. For that reason, it gets three stars. This store isn't as good as my faves - one located in Vacaville and the other in Pinole, but it's good enough. read more

I needed some honey and happened to be passing by in the 72 bus so I stopped at this Grocery Outlet. The store is spacious and well organized. They had Captain Crunch cereal for $0.99 and the expiration date isn't until next year. They had Treetop Apple Juice for $1.99 which is more elsewhere. They also have my Nexxus shampoo and conditioner that I cannot get at Costco anymore at Costco prices ($17.99 for large bottles). My cashier was quick, friendly, and could multitask. I will be back to this location if I ever happen to be in the area. read more

I am overjoyed with the new Grocery Outlet store. I love to cook and love bargain deals. I love buying whatever is fresh or in season and letting my ingredients dictate what recipe I will try next. This store is close to my gym, so I've been waiting for the store to open. They have done a great job of fixing up the building and lot around it. It's an Independently owned store and way cheaper than Safeway with a healthy selection like Trader Joe's. They have these really great Bacon Wrapped Steaks (2 each for $4.99) and before you laugh at the price, they are fantastic! Everything is about half as much as regular stores, without skimping on quality. They have a great selection of gourmet cheese and deals on veggies. I absolutely loved the Herb Chèvre. Each time I am here, I find something else I absolutely love and never tried before. They have a lot of natural, organic, vegan and gluten free products. A nice selection of food at family friendly prices. I'm really happy that this store is in the neighborhood, providing quality food and produce at prices we all can afford. read more

I have been a regular customer for years and as we all know, most of the items are about to expire, if not, they're expired. I bought a 2 in 1 shampoo and serum 3 weeks ago but the shampoo won't come out, just the serum uncontrollably. So I returned it and got different ones. But today I was returning them unused. The manager came out and rudely said to the employees, "this person has been constantly returning items and we will not allow her in the store anymorer" then he turned to me saying, if you will return them might as well not shop here. THEIR PRICE HAD GONE UP WITH THE SAME POOR QUALITY, ALMOST EXPIRED & THEY ARE PISSED WHEN YOU RETURN. Price in Costco is cheaper with better quality! I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS STORE AGAIN. EVER!!! I enjoy using and eating natural, organic, or local products as much as possible, but I also appreciate ability to save as much money as I can. I get all of my bathroom supplies here: EO's shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand soap! So reasonably priced compared to other grocery stores that sell EO. Tom's toothpaste and brands of recycled or bamboo toilet paper are a steal here! I always manage to find an interesting selection of natural and organic produce here, including bananas, onions, potatoes, greens, and other veggies. I never leave without looking at the yogurt selection, milk and eggs section, as well as the bread aisle. I also appreciate the selection of wine and beer.
