I have a disability (functional movement disorder) and they kicked me out because of it. I was having an attack in the store and the female security guard told me "this will be your last purchase at the store." I was literally shaking when she came up to me. All true, no exaggeration. I am filing a corporate complaint and a complaint with the government. Target's policies are fascist and discriminatory. Either they know the law and don't care if they break it, or they are just little retail/corporate drones who wouldn't know what empathy was if it hit them in the face, which I hope it does (metaphorically, that is.) Also note that the prices in store are higher than online. Always get a price comparison/adjustment if the online prices are lower. They will match other large retailers and their own website. The future of retail looks pretty bleak for the worker. I dont want to reward the shareholders by willingly being forced to check myself out. Oh I'll do it but I'll be damned if I don't steal something every time I do it they are paying someone to do the work at my job as a customer to do the work? I am excited about the incoming robotic workers, they are not cheap to repair. Working at target is not union work but it should be, i like the staff and people need work. I doubt they'll be around much longer. I saw a woman with a puppy come in on the University street door who took 6 huge bags of beef Jerky and stuff them in her backpack. I saw another guy putting something in his pants and as I was leaving another guy was watching the security guards so he could run out the door. I was only there for 10 minutes. How could any Target stay in business with so many people stealing? They will be forced to leave this location like so many Walgreens have left. There were two security guards near the main registers who were there as decorations because they were doing nothing. I felt unsafe. Sadly I've seen this stealing all over Berkeley. read more

Today I visited the new Target Express on University Ave. - located in the spot of the former Andronico's - for the first time. I arrived around 5 pm on a Friday and, despite the small parking lot, was pleasantly surprised to see parking spaces available. The store is clean and tidy, and the staff are friendly and helpful. There are self-service kiosks at both the rear and front entrances and, as long as they continue to have staff members nearby to help if anything goes awry, I think this will work well! I also did a return of an item I'd purchased online and they handled this quickly and well at the Customer Service desk. I am giving this location 3 stars out of 5 not because anything is wrong with the store per se, but rather because of the limited nature of a Target Express. Because of the small selection of items compared to a regular Target store, there is quite the likelihood that the item you're looking for will not be available! In my case, I went for Persil laundry detergent and a Pyrex baking dish (both available at the bigger Target stores), but couldn't find either. I don't know if it's fair to subtract stars for this reason, but I guess this means it is just more likely that next time I'll drive over to the bigger Target in Albany. read more

I've got to rep the position of the neighborhood. As someone who has lived within 10 blocks of this location for 10+ years, I have seen it go from Andronico's to Savers to empty. And I was hoping for something like this to happen. Why? We have *very* few grocery, pharmacy, or household goods options in our neck of Berkeley. For those who can easily drive to TJs or Whole Foods or wherever at 9:30 pm when you realize, after a long day, that you need some groceries, this little Target may not be enough for you. I get it. But for this bike-riding, walking, and mass-transport reviewer, I'm grateful to have some grocery options (until 10pm on a weeknight) without riding my bike at night (or walking) 2+ miles (roundtrip) into other parts of Berkeley. Shout out to Mi Tierra on San Pablo for also providing some grocery options in Poet's Corner, until 9pm, I believe. Sometimes the produce is hit-and-miss, but they have an actual butcher counter, bakery, and a recent remodel. It's still a great little local grocery but it doesn't have a lot of the basic household products (e.g. light bulbs, screwdrivers, bath towels) that Target carries. P.S. I really wanted an independent natural grocery to go into the Target location, even more so, but you can't have everything! At least there are *some* organic options at Target. Better than an empty storefront, which has been the case for a long time. read more

This mini Target is super convenient! Has all the essentials: milk, butter, cheese, veggies, fruit, meat, crackers, some frozen stuff, coffee etc. Plus all the regular cleaning/laundry products I use. Plenty of drugstore items and a real pharmacy where you can fill prescriptions. Diapers and wipes, pet food (didn't see cat litter) and even clothing and household stuff like dishes and bedding. Even has a little toy/game section that my son was pretty happy about. A Starbucks inside too. Parking in the back. 2 entrances, one off University and one off Addison (w/parking). Also 2 checkout locations. Self checkout near University, and cashier checkout near Addison. Not sure why the other reviewer hates it. If you live in the neighborhood, it's nice not to have to drive to giant Target or walk all the way downtown to the other mini Target or Trader Joe's. I see myself getting a lot of last minute items here and wasting some money on random stuff I don't need, like the frozen chocolate pie I bought last night. read more

This is one of the best chain stores that could have opened here. Since Andronico's closed we haven't had a place nearby to buy the little things in walking distance (not counting 7-Eleven). There were some kinks to work out in the opening week or two but overall I've been very happy with the selection of basic food (like organic eggs and dairy), clothing, and household items. The pharmacy is a BIG PLUS. I can't speak to the Starbucks (because Fellini), but it's probably a Starbucks. The team members have been consistently friendly and helpful, and oddly there are sometimes an equal or greater number of them than the checkout machines, doing the little things to make the customer experience better. Returning an item was also quick and easy. Areas I'd love to see attention given are a greater selection of organic deli options and a variety of quality pet care products. Overall, this store made living near the University corridor much more convenient. read more

At the beginning of the pandemic, this Target seemed really on top of things. They only let a certain number of people in the store, and staff were practicing social distancing. They've really gotten sloppy since then. When I came in a few evenings ago, the workers out front who were supposed to be keeping track had their faces buried in their phones. No one told me which were the clean carts and baskets. There were lots of Target staff and customers milling around the check out area (I was unable to get by without getting uncomfortably close), and there is no plexiglass separation in front of the cashier. Worst of all, the young woman who rang up my order had her mask down and her nose exposed. I will not be shopping here again until the pandemic is over! read more

This review is mostly for the pharmacy. I realize that pharmacists are often asked to do too many things with too little support staff, but they should be aware of how insurance works. After a root canal I went here to fill a rx for pain medication. My insurance (UC SHIP) will only pay for three days. So she said that I--in pain and during COVID 19 when offices are only open for emergencies and on a weekend-- could wait a few more days and get a new rx OR pay for the whole rx out of pocket. She refused to dispense LESS medication, which my insurance says she should have done. My insurance now will not pay for anything when I resubmit. Thanks. Additionally, I would say 80% of the items in store are more expensive than online by a substantial amount (shampoo in store $30, on target.com $15). You have to ask for a price match at the cashier, which means waiting for help. Basically this store will just bleed you for money. Go elsewhere. read more

It's nice to have a practical store in this neighborhood w/in walking distance from home where I can get some cereal & milk and a fancy dress that I can wear while I eat my breakfast! We are SO thrilled to step beyond food desert in Poet's Corner! This Target far exceeds our expectations, is better than 7-11 in every way (the walkable alternative) - has a huge variety of milk and eggs (what we're likely to go there for most often), some fresh produce, canned food, enough clothing to solve your immediate need, houshold goods, electronics, a solid pharmacy, baby stuff, even nursing supplies. And parking's good enough to keep the neighborhood parking reasonable for residents. Thank you for getting something right, Berkeley! read more

This is actually a 0-star review. The Target website said the item I wanted was in the 1414 University Avenue store in Berkeley. I went there to buy that one specific item. It wasn't on the shelf. Worse, there was no tag for its spot on the shelf, meaning they don't carry it. 0 stars for inaccurate website and wasting my time. read more

This is a strange smaller than normal Target store. Sadly, they don't hire cashiers here. It's all check yourself out machines. There is one employee standing there who helps with the machines and with pickups and returns. It's a shame that Target has replaced real people with check out machines. Come on Target! People need jobs! The selection here is minimal and clearly catered to college students. The food section is much bigger than I expected. I only went here because I had an appointment down the street. I prefer the big Target stores with actual employees over this one. read more

But I'm soo not into stores compelling customers to do free labor, while human checkers go without jobs. And if that's not bad enough, the few times I've been tricked into volunteering this unpaid labor, it's always when I have a ton of stuff, it takes *for-freaking-ever*, something glitches--at which point I, and everyone behind me, has to wait for an actual human employee at this understaffed store, and stores like it. Yes, small store but WHY don't you have what you're supposed to in Amounts that don't have you perpetually running out? This is for the Starbucks counter hidden in the back of the store. While the menu is a little bit smaller than a regular Starbucks, there is never a line and the service is FANTASTIC if you are lucky enough to get Tash as your barista/counterperson. Forget it! Not ready for prime time. I was there for over half an hour trying to check out 4 items. No attendant for self check out, no regular checkouts. That was after being mis-directed twice trying to find items. You wouldn't think I could spend 45 minutes trying to find a few things in a small store. This was my first and last time at this store. Yesterday Jorge was very rude and short with me when I asked him about some candles that weren't ringing up as clearance. He said if they aren't marked clearance they're not clearance, I tried explaining to him that all the candles in that section were on sale. He brushed me off and gave me that look like trying to say "Did I stutter?" and went about his business. As I was walking back to return the candles, a target employee by the name of Patty approached me and offered to help me place the candles back since she saw that I had my cane and was carrying them back. When I walked over to the section I showed her where all the candles except for these were marked and that the whole section (see pictures) were on clearance. I told her common sense would tell you not to put these in the clearance section if they are not on sale or for at least Jorge could have let me finish instead of being so rude! Patty apologized profusely and said that Jorge was the supervisor and that she understood my frustration but unfortunately there was nothing she could do. I would like to say "Thank You" to Patty because she helped me place them back and for helping me get the other ones that were on sale and for having great customer service. I was so upset I was about to walk out, but when Patty approached me and helped me it made a difference and I finished my shopping. As I returned to the register I asked him what his name was, he said Jorge. As I walked out he said "Is there anything I can help you with?" REALLY!! now you want to help! Anyways I hardly take the time to write posts, but sometimes you need to make the time so that companies train their staff on good customer service. That's why I only gave it 3 stars. read more

I came to this Target to make a return which my receipt was dated May 1 2020..due to coved19 the stores extended the return policy to be able to make a return if needed by 3 weeks from the receipt date on it..well the employee who wasn't a regular cashier but someone who was in charge this evening gave me a hard time to do the return..she said that I needed to do the return by the expiration date which was May 1st 2020..I told her that they had a policy that was not taking any returns in April..Then she got smart with me by telling me that they started to take returns on April 23 2020 and that I should have done this before May 1st 2020..How I am supposed to know this I told her, Then she said for me to go to the store where originally I bought the Item's(Richmond) I said no that it was their policy not to take returns most of april an that she needed to deal with it..She was so rude in the process that I would never shop at this store again..Target had posted that returns could be made 3 weeks after the expiration date on the receipt but apparently either she was either being racist or just ignorant about their own policy and after all she said she was doing me a favor and I should do returns on time..next time I wont respect their return policy and explain why read more

I shop here at this target every night for the same items daily tonight I was embarrassed and humiliated by the cashier and leader of the day ,, after making my purchase they ran behind me and told me my money was FAKE !! I was in dis belief,, the leader of the day yelled at me and humiliated me in front of other guest yelling that my money was fake , I then went into my purse and gave her another $20 to try and her machine did the same thing , so then I gave her every bill I had and her machine did the same thing, even the guest behind me let them test her bill and it said the same thing,,, so after them not taking ownership of not reading their own machines correctly the leader of the day YELLED CALLED THE POLICE !!!!!!!!! Wow I've never been soooooooo embarrassed in my life !!!!
