As being the only grocery store with household items in the neighbourhood it seems that this location always has items in absence. I understand the zone is overpopulated but it has what you need in order to survive. From instant meals, grand and go, to sweets, toilet paper, Lysol, and whatnot. Nothing too major but if you need something quick or convenient this place seems to do the trick promptly. At time you can score a nice deal on whatever they have on their catalogue. read more

Horrible customer service ! I came here the morning of October 18 around 11 AM and the older cashier guy was beyond beyond beyond rude! I had told him I needed a bag for my two items as he was ringing them up then the transaction was complete and he pushed my two items towards me. I said, excuse me, sir I asked for a bag he aggressively grabbed the bag and threw it at me and brushed me off to leave the register.. which to me is insane. I've never been into a store where they don't put the items inside of the bag for you, but my thing is why are you brushing me of to get out of the way when now I have to stay right here to take more time to open the bag to put the items and then walk away when you could have just done that in the first place and definitely didn't have to get a attitude and throw a plastic bag at me because you forgot to give it to me read more

I love thi pharmacy mostly because of their staff. Even if there is a closer pharmacy to me , i still go this brqnch on telegraph. THe staff re amazing. VEry kind and helpful.. Most especially Lakshay, always smiling, kind, patient and very helpful. THank you so much for the very best service you all unconditionally give to your clients!!! Walgreens is so lucky to have such an amazing staff!!! HIghly recommend! Exceptional service!!! GOd bless you all!!! read more

Walgreens sucks, wait time is too long, and the cashier is not professional and takes a long time to ring up customers.

A miserable pharmacy service. The delays are not told to customer in advance. Surprise delays of vital medication are common, especially since introduced new 2024 "controlled substance" rules, which state prescription must be filled at exact 30-day intervals - seemingly absurd. The staff have no answers to questions. Service may take more than over a week to fill a prescription promised 10 days earlier. I will change pharmacy ASAP. Something is terribly wrong with the big pharma. read more

Always experiencing the longest lines with only 1 cashier working when there are multiple available to help. Came in on a random Thursday - bought a water and coffee right before going to the school library because it was really hot outside. Upon purchasing the water, I took 5 seconds to take a sip while the cashier was answering another customer's question. He proceeds to immediately frown at me with the most judgemental face and says: "There's no way you just did that." Did what?? Take a quick sip of water that I PURCHASED with my own money?! I was in disbelief with how rude the taller male cashier was to me when I did nothing to provoke him. What the heck is wrong with this store. They are always out of items and the staff I meet are always so rude and not willing to help. They need to be let go. Everything is all crazy overpriced. Don't come here!!! read more

I went to this Walgreens location today at 8:45 only to be greeted by this sales associate passively holding the door closed. When I approached the door, all she did was wag her head and mouth "no." Absolutely no explanation or I'm sorry or even "we're closed early ma'am." I found that incredibly rude, especially since you don't know at what expense I travelled to your location. I was in quite a bit of pain and walked all the way from my residence just to get ibuprofen. If you close at 8:45, then by damn put that you close at 8:45 and then you won't have to have someone stand behind the door like a fool and wag customers away like dogs. I'm never and I mean never coming here again. They make a profit solely by having no competition in the area and leeching off of college students. read more

Store was closed at 8:54, security wouldn't let me in to buy an item, pointless as a store, understaffed.

They did not process my western union amazon order. i had to call many times to amazon and western union to figure out it was walgreens who did not process the order. So i called walgreens to let them know. The manager says we don't have western union to pay amazon, yet i did it at the computer near the pharmacy. Pay bill, amazon, enter code, etc...got a receipt and western union code from walgreens for it. what kind of place is this? shut it down. read more

Well I dunno what everyone else's experience was in here seems like since it's so close to the college it gets a bad wrap. I like the location.... Went in to add money to my chime card... accidentally gave Jorge the manager a extra $100 he handed it back to me with no problem. I had to write him a review he was a honest man for that. Good to know it's still good people in the world keep being that dope man thank you. read more

TL;DR you will probably find what you need, but will have to wait a LONG time This Walgreens is right off campus next to subway. It will probably have what you're looking for if you're a student b/c their products are catered towards students. However, if you're there right in the beginning of the semester, they probably will have run out of all school supplies. What really blows my socks off is how rude almost all of their staff are. I've been here 20+ times, and 90% of my visits here leave me so frustrated. They are so unpleasant and unhelpful. Make your trip as fast as possible to save yourself some years taken off your life. Avoid this Walgreens if you can. read more

I usually don't have a problem with Walgreens because i can find what i need. However, their products are definitely overpriced compared to online prices or even Target/Walmart. They also wouldn't let me price match from their own website?? I found a product on a Walgreens website for cheaper than the listed in store price and asked to price match but was denied. This policy doesn't seem to make sense considering other stores let you price match across competing retailers. I would strongly recommend changing this policy. read more

This place is pretty terrible... I usually go here for buying snacks for study sessions because it's convenient, but the prices here are pretty bad if you compare it to Safeway (which in itself is pretty bad). A pack of oreos are $4.50 here but at Safeway, you can usually get a bag for $2.00. Also, binders are like $5.00 versus target where you can pick one up for $1.00. Customer service is enough to earn Walgreens negative stars. The place is usually pretty busy for some reason, so there's always a line to checkout. Instead of forming separate lines, there's one a single line and the next available cashier always rudely yells for the next person in line like its a human auction. When you walk up to the cashier, they're always pissed off like working there is the last place that they want to be and 4 out of 5 times, the person won't even look up at you during the entire transaction. Stay away if you can. read more

After hearing a enthusiastic talk by Bill Gates on his work in philanthropy at Zellerbach, I started to walk down The Ave for lunch, however I had a dry, chapped, lip attack! You know when you just need relief? I dashed into Walgreens and cried, "I'm having a chapped lip attack!" Two helpful Asian sisters came to my aid and directed me towards the chap sticks. I quickly picked the Burt's Bees out of a natural, Berkeley habit. Popped over the plastic "homeland security packaging," and enjoyed a smooth coat of honeycombs, a natural emulsifier. Dude, I never knew there were so many types of chap sticks? There was like fifteen kinds, from fruit flavors to something called "Lip Smackers?" I realize now this is not a review, but rather an observation of a phenom that I know nothing about. However, the Asian women were nice, helpful, and laughed at my jokes. Please don't flag me! read more

So rude. I stepped in to buy some stuff and get my parking validated. The cashier told me that they didn't have any validations any more and that they won't have them for a few days. No apology or even empathy. They made me feel like it was my fault for asking them for a validation at a time when they did not have any. Will look for other stores that validate. Forget this Walgreens. read more

I should have bought my bottle water from Sheng Kee (across the street from the Walgreens) while I was in there to pick up a mango mousse cake for my mom, but then I needed to add funds to my Clipper card before I headed home to Alameda. This Walgreens was convenient, but smaller than other Walgreens I have been to. The aisles here were somewhat narrow and darn the line was long. There were only three cashiers. I am not sure who was moving slower...the cashiers or the customers...egads. The two customers in front of me were somewhat lollygagging and there really wasn't anything I could do about it. Once the funds were added to my clipper card, I had to go to the end of the counter where the Clipper card machine was. Ugh, there was no spool of paper in the machine for a printout of the transaction. The cashier then left my receipt at her cash register, she had to retrieve it to give it to me. Most of the Walgreens that I have been to are okay, but this one...I don't know. It leaves a lot to be desired. read more

A lot of reviews emphasize how I feel about this place. This place is crowded because it's small and very close to campus, which makes it convenient I guess. But because it's close to campus, they jack up all the prices, which takes advantage of poor students.. at least the Subway EVEN CLOSER to campus still follows those $5 Subway deals =/ The cashiers don't have good customer service. They're always chatting with each other and a lot of times they're in a bad mood.. The good thing is they offer cashback on debit card transactions, and you never have to sign for credit card transactions. woohoo! read more

PROS: -The workers are friendly. -The aisles are usually clean, but it's common to see workers restocking shelves and blocking aisles. But oh well. -Prices are clearly marked. -Generous cosmetic/ make-up return policy! I called them and a worker told me that make-up can be returned with original packaging and receipt! Even if it's used (but only slightly used. Like we tried it and didn't like it.) Thats awesome, because I'm still trying to find the products I like best. CONS: - Long lines. Expect a wait! The earlier you go, the less of a wait. - Prices are marked up, which makes sense since they're catering to mostly college students who just shop at their local stores. I've seen things on Amazon usually a few dollars cheaper! Heck, my Honey Nut Cheerios box of cereal cost me 5 stinking dollars! For a regular size! Basically, come here if you need something right away or if you have a coupon or something. Otherwise, just buy it online. read more

If i could give a zero star to this place i would. The cashiers here apparently think that they are the customers' superior and can just scold them however they like. The store opens at 8 and I waited outside for a while before the manager waved at me and let me in. It was past 8 and the cashier still hadn't started to work. She just casually looked at ppl in line and nonchalantly moved around as if annoying us on purpose. And when she finally called me she started to give me a lecture, telling me to not come in the store next time unless they allowed us to, which they just fcking did. I said sure okay, and then she requested me to take off my earbud so that she could repeat that sentence to me again. It was just a fcking red bull and the system just didn't read my card, so she kept requesting me to "tap it again" when there was obviously some error with the machine. And when it didn't work again she requested to take off my earbud again as it that was what's causing the problem. Give it a rest woman the fcking earbud wasn't playing anything and i heard you loud and clear every time. Shove it up your a*s and i hope you enjoy your job that should have been replaced by a self-check out machine. S*ck it shattuck walgreens read more

This location is right next to campus so the lines get long pretty quickly, but they go down fairly quickly as well. The pharmacy has always been fast in my experience, and sometimes there isn't even a line. Easy and convenient with good service. read more

Jack up the prices because we're right by the campus song! People are always stealing in this store. Messy dirty. I came here to get some passport photos taken, which ended up being a complete waste of money. I was told to stand in the checkout line before I could talk to someone, which is fine, but once I told one of the employees that I needed passport photos, they seemed taken aback and there was a discussion between her and another employee about whether anyone knew how to do it. She decided she did know how, and I followed her to the backdrop so she could take the photo. The camera ended up being out of battery, and after messing with the camera for a while she was able to get a photo. I knew it was going to come out poorly because she hadn't warned me when she was trying to take the photo, and didn't give me another chance. After waiting about fifteen minutes, I got my photos which not only looked terrible, but ended up not following passport guidelines. The size of my head from chin to top of head were larger than the specifications, and the printing quality was so bad that my shirt blended into the background and I looked like a floating head. Complete waste of time and money. read more

How is it that every time I walk in, there's not line, but when I come up to make my purchases, the line has grown tremendously!!?? This walgreens is conveniently located next to campus, and boy to the execs at Walgreens know it! The prices are significantly higher than other stores, even the one on shattuck less than a mile away! It's pretty crappy, but I get it. That's business for you. It really is convenient though and I do find myself patronizing the store frequently for basic sundries and candy. They're the only place I can find those new reece's peanut butter cups with reece's pieces inside! SO GOOD There's not that much else to say, I guess. I mean, it's just a walgreens... They're super strict on the 10 cent bag policy though. I always remember to ask for a bag AFTER I've paid then they're like "ok that will be ten cents," but then what's the point of actually buying the bag with my credit card after that. Oh well, I guess we all need to be greener. I'll continue going here. I guess I'll pay for the convenience of the location. read more

Oh, look. Walgreen$. I don't have many good things to say about this place; the prices are jacked up, the store looks run down, and the line is always ridiculous. The workers look like they don't give a s*** about what the customers think. Once, an employee was bringing stuff in through the rear entrance (which has an alarm), and she didn't bother to disable it. We could hear the obnoxious alarm going off for a good 10 minutes or so. Another time, I was trying to return a hoodie that I bought, and after waiting in line, the cashier asked me if I could come back another time because there were too many people in line. I reluctantly agreed, but when I came back the next day, the refund took at most two minutes. Do yourself a favor and go to the Target Express or any other store that isn't Walgreen$. read more

Walgreens short-staffs this store because they know Berkeley students are used to standing in long lines. They won't complain, it's just business as usual. Sometimes I think there's a conspiracy between Walgreens, the UC bookstores, the registrar's office, etc.: "We can get away with making people stand in long lines if we ALL do it." Anyway, it's the intentional long lines on top of Walgreens usual ghetto-fab sorry state that earns them a 1-star rating. Go to CVS on Shattuck instead. read more

Fantastic location, it is right across from campus. Shelves are well stocked and isles are clean. Most items are marked up much higher than Target or Amazon but I suppose that's the price for convenience. They used to have a red box until it was abruptly removed from the store so I do miss my movie nights. There is a small shelf that is stocked with some imported crackers and snacks - this is easily my favorite little corner in Walgreens. The reasons this place got only two stars because I don't ever recall meeting a nice worker or sale associate as they call it at this location. The line, the single line for purchase, is long. And as I mentioned above, the prices are jacked up, I left feeling like I spent a fortune on some products that I could have spent much less if only I ventured outside of Berkeley. read more

There should be an option to leave separate review for the pharmacy, which I adore! No, I am not trippin' off my meds - I adore such an antiseptic space as a pharmacy, which is really the fault of the excellent staff who fill my prescriptions and work with my beezy insurance provider. Chevy, the head pharmacist, and Christie, another pharmacist or assistant, are really efficient and human (an important quality in the healthcare world) with their own subtle senses of humor. The line can get long, but they're pretty quick at taking care of everyone. I look forward to picking up my meds in a month because of Chevy and Christie. The rest of Walgreens is usually a shit show - long, slow lines, clueless students taking up isle space...the pharmacy is where it's at. read more

2.5 STARS I'm only giving Walgreens a 3-star rating because of its extremely convenient location. For those that haven't been to Berkeley, not sure why you're reading reviews for this particular Walgreens, but it's essentially located about 20 feet from the edge of campus. Ridiculously close! Anyways, there's not really anything about this Walgreens that makes it stand out, in my opinion. On the contrary, its only distinguishing characteristic-- the mile long lines-- are more of a weakness than a strength. Bottom line: Just your run-of-the-mill Walgreens, but with crazy long lines. Be prepared to camp out! ): read more

When in Berkeley, I come to this Walgreens a lot--but really only because it's the only store on Southside. If there were a different store nearby that was not extremely overpriced, did not have long lines, and was cleaner, I would definitely go there. read more

I sort of loathe this Walgreens. The line almost always stretches to the very back of the store so despite its oh-so-convenient location, it's really not a "pop in and out" kind of place. I understand that their selection is more limited because of the small place, but I really wish that the items they did carry weren't so frequently out of stock. Also, with the exception of extraordinary circumstances, avoid getting digital photos printed here -- I've had bad experiences and so have my friends. This problem is probably related to their larger issue of generally incompetent staff. ...end rant. Oddly, I don't feel much better, probably because I know that returning here again and again is an inevitability. And also because now I feel a bit mean. read more

If they could just hire one more employee. -there are always 10 or more people in line -items are often out of stock -the prices are higher than normal -this Walgreen's doesn't follow the sales in the weekly circulars .... but it is between campus and my apartment. read more

Incredibly rude service. I went in for diapers. Not an unreasonable thing to wave from a drug store. The guy stocking shelves was incredibly rude when I asked, he heard me but turned his back to me, didn't even answer my question. I had to chase him down to ask again. read more

If I could give 0 stars to this Walgreens, I would. This Walgreens violates California Civil Code section 1723, and I will be filing a formal complaint. They refused my return WITH RECEIPT for something I bought within 7 days and the sales associate Shaheem insinuated I stole the item and found the same receipt in a trash can. The assistant manager refused to honor their return policy when I had the receipt and item, but wouldn't let me return it because I bought it from a different Walgreens store. Their return policy SPECIFICALLY states you can return it at any nationwide store in the United States. Ridiculous. I'm forced to shop at this Walgreens even though: 1. They clearly state they do not honor local weekly Walgreens advertised prices because they are smaller than the average Walgreens 2. They have jacked up prices because it's the only retail convenience store near campus. 3. Won't honor gift cards but the one on shattuck works just fine 4. The line is always ridiculously long and their service is terribly slow 5. Doesn't honor return policy with receipt within 30 days. 6. Sales associate insinuated I stole the item???!!!! I live in Berkeley and I know it's a high crime area but seriously? Racial profiling because I'm Asian? I don't even know. I will never purchase anything from this Walgreens again. Worst service ever, rude manager, and overpriced. Go to the newly opened Target express on Shattuck. read more

Okay, maybe they are just pictures of me and drunken friends at a party. I still don't understand why they bother calling it One Hour Photo if they can never have it done in an hour? Today there were simply no excuses--the place was pretty empty, the photography center was up and running, so WHY do I have to wait two hours (but pay the one hour price of course)? It's just not right I tell you. It's just not right. Plus two stars because I'm quite happy with my Chewy Quaker granola bars. read more

All the one star reviews are correct! The customer service here is atrocious. I came here with a friend after eating at Toaster Oven (see my review! :D) and we were walking off our milkshakes (see my review! :D). We came upon the deodorant and shampoo shelves, each of which are curiously shielded by plastic slidey-shields that work kind of like shelves in main stacks (you must move a whole row to access Old Spice). Perhaps this is an anti-theft device, i.e. the squeaking alerts the staff that shampoo may be in the process of being stolen ("All security on floor..."). Or perhaps it is just a practical joke and we are on candid camera. Either way, what a waste of resources. ANYWAYS, customer service was horrible. We found a box of nail polish for 1.99 that had a few special crackle colors. The lady at the cashier was pretty anal about double-checking the crackle polish prices and just wasted our time consulting another employee about where the polish should have been placed. But she finally gave us the polish at the 1.99 price. So....whatever. read more

This Walgreens has pretty much everything you'd expect a Walgreens to have. The location is great (right next to campus on Telegraph Avenue). HOWEVER, I have a few gripes about this place: - For birthday celebrations: they are almost ALWAYS out of the candles "2" and "1" in the back. This makes sense, of course, but you'd think they would order some extras after all these years of experience. Fortunately, they carry the 24-pack of single candles... But I certainly would prefer to light 2 candles rather than 21 or 22. - This store has a very corporate-style atmosphere compared to the great intimate service I now expect from most shops in Berkeley. Yes, Walgreens is part of a huge chain, but you can tell that most of the employees are obviously unhappy and grumpy, especially by the end of the day. - As a result of the close-to-campus location, there's often a long line -- especially in the late afternoon/evening after students usually end class for the day (5pm-7pm). The line usually moves relatively quickly, but if you're in a hurry, it's a huge bummer to have to wait in line. Overall, this place is great in terms of location, but try to come early if you can in order to avoid the huge line. read more

This is seriously the worst Walgreens ever. The Walgreens I frequent in East Oakland is a million times nicer than this one. - It's filthy and tiny, with a VERY limited selection - There are SO many employees working here clogging up the aisles at busy times of day, but for some reasons they are never actually on the registers - ....and consequently, there is ALWAYS a line of 5+ people - ...and the line takes forever because of all the asian tourists trying to pay with $100 bills One time I was in line and a homeless man came into the store, screamed "IMMA EAT A CANDY BAR!," took said candy bar from the register area, and moseyed out of the store. That is how little the employees here care. Okay, so obviously I'm still her once in a while because of the location, but I'm making it a habit to walk the extra half mile to the (beautiful, clean!) new Walgreens by the BART station; this place is really that bad. read more
