This is the best Trader Joe's in the Oakland area. The staff is friendly, helpful, and well trained. The bathrooms are clean, though there is a code and you need to get a staff member to let you in. The only reason I didn't give this place five stars was because of the parking lot. It's a zoo always crowded and a little dicey in terms of safety. I've seen multiple cars get broken into. The checkout lines generally have no more than two or three people in them, with the exception of the express lane. It generally takes me about 3 to 5 minutes of waiting in line to get to a cashier. This might increase on a busy Saturday or Sunday afternoon. What are the best parts of this Trader Joe's, is that they always have somebody giving out samples. Love that! read more

It's bigger than the one we have in Clovis, CA, but probably just as big as the one we have in Fresno, CA. Service was great as it always is. About the flowers...they and the plants were of high quality and the price was really competitive. I didn't have a lot of time today so that was my only purchase. Today I purchased beautiful tulips! About the service...the young man who waited on me was abrupt and hurried. That wasn't my usual experience, and it caught me off guard. I was trying to put my change in my crossbody bag, and he didn't have the patience to wait before shoving the flowers at me. I was so surprised I asked if he was in a hurry? I usually don't get a chance to shop at Trader Joe's, it's quite busy and all. But, I liked how they have thoughtful and yummy ready to eat items. Today, I was in my usual hurry, clutching my items because well, I simply have too many items that I want. This lovely store associate, Stephanie, approached me and handed me a much needed basket. Then, noticing the gluten free baguettes I have in my basket, she informed me about their new gluten free chocolate frosted sheet cake. Not only did she tell me about it, but she also showed me other desserts like blueberry cupcake and coffee cake. The kicker? She offered me to taste test all three. The winner? The sheet cake. Stephanie even told me about other items that were gluten free ie beef empanadas (which I got.) I have shopped at Trader Joe's for many years. But this experience takes the cake. This is my first time to this Trader Joe's in Emeryville. Was on the hunt for small snacks and light breakfast. I really like their Cold Brew coffee, and just other odds and ends to bring back home to Honolulu. They have really simple toiletries, groceries, at inexpensive prices and the friendliest cashier's. Literally next door to my hotel, no need to walk far or carry a huge load of stuff back. Located in a strip mall I don't even know the name of the shopping center, but they have plenty of parking in front. Be cautious as there were a few people loitering in front of the shopping carts wanting to ask you a question about something you'd rather not want to answer. read more

I've been a loyal Trader Joe's customer for years -- I even once wrote a love letter to Trader Joe's as a writing exercise, true story. Today was my first visit to the Emeryville location, and I had the pleasure of meeting Hannah at checkout. Something I want to highlight about *every* Trader Joe's I've ever been to: the employees are consistently fantastic. Trader Joe's must be doing something right with their work environment, because it's clear they retain long-term staff who genuinely enjoy what they do. The employees always come across as seasoned and knowledgeable -- they know the inventory inside and out, they've tasted the products, they know the prices, and sometimes even the calorie counts off the top of their heads. I also love the quirky Trader Joe's uniforms. They're not really "uniforms" at all, which I imagine helps morale by letting employees express individuality. Having worked in the service industry myself, I always hated stiff uniforms that made me feel like a 12‑year‑old boy. Trader Joe's gets it right. My conversation with Hannah was delightful -- she shared a story about her mom making her eat green beans as a child, and about her nieces and nephews. Honestly, I have more meaningful conversations with Trader Joe's cashiers than with most people in my life. That says a lot about the culture they've built. And of course, the Trader Joe's brand itself is unmatched. Whether frozen, refrigerated, or canned, I know if it has the Trader Joe's label it's going to be high quality, taste fantastic, and be a great value. Trader Joe's simply gets food right. This Trader Joe's has everything. Staff has been kind during our shopping experiences and id say the layout of this store makes it not feel so busy/packed. Parking during certain times of the day can be rough especially weekends as it is that emeryville shopping area. They always have the trendy tote bags and I never have an issue grabbing one when they're released. Try coming at an earlier time to avoid the shopping traffic in this area. read more

My beloved and I were doing some errands in the area so went here to pick up some pizza crust to make homemade vegan pizza for dinner. This Trader Joe's is solid. I love that they have many vegan options on hand that are labeled vegan. I don't have a Trader Joe's close to where I live otherwise would probably frequent it more. I go to farmer's markets, Grocery Outlet, and Rainbow Grocery for special items. Yet I do appreciate Trader Joe's for what they offer. This is a solid Trader Joe's and worth checking out if in the area. read more

Haven't shopped at this Trader's Joe location in many many years. This was the location that was closest to me before they opened a store in my city. The store is part of the Powell St Plaza shopping center and parking is readily available. I was in area and decided to stop by to see if they had my Toasted Coconut Granola in stock since my store was completely out the day before. Here shortly after lunch on a weekday, the store was not crowded as some TJ's can be. Lo and behold, they had the granola in stock and the shelf was full. The check-out line was one deep and the checkout was quick and efficient. Happy to have had a good experience at this TJ's location. read more

I am new to California and began shopping at Trader Joe's because it reminded me of Publix, which is a staple grocery store back home on the East Coast. Publix is known for its warmth, kindness, and community spirit, and I have always appreciated that same feeling from most of your team members. At your Emeryville location at 5700 Christie Avenue, most of the associates have been wonderful, friendly, and kind. However, there is one associate whose demeanor has been consistently unwelcoming, particularly toward customers of color. His energy feels selective and cold, which stands out from the otherwise positive and inclusive environment. My recent visit was on October 28, 2025, at 9:51 AM, and my receipt lists the associate as K. Darrel. I wanted to share this feedback because Trader Joe's represents warmth, kindness, and inclusivity, values that make customers like me choose your stores. I came in with my newly trained service animal who's still a puppy. I understand the need to ask about service animals, and I answered when the manager, Rochelle, eventually approached me. The problem was what happened next. She continued to follow me around the store, very obviously watching me, like she didn't believe me. It made the experience tense and uncomfortable. On top of that, her demeanor is extremely unapproachable, which only made everything feel worse. I was barely there 10 minutes and almost walked out. Customers with service animals should be treated respectfully, not judged or monitored the entire time. read more

I literally have to pass two Trader Joe's just to get to this one, but I really enjoy coming to this one as a result of how well stocked, they keep the shelves and how clean they keep the store. The staff here is always incredibly welcoming and extremely helpful. They make me feel like more than just a customer but a guest in their home. I can tell that they are genuinely happy to work at Trader Joe's and that makes all the difference in my experience when shopping here. The worst of all stores. Jeremy team leader extremely rude, disrespectful, utmost unprofessional. He said that store has twenty team leaders. Thus among twenty no one with common sense ??? Next time when shopping in Trader Joe in Emeryville, CA ask cashier for advice where to buy nice women underwear because according to Jeremy his employees have to be most helpful, tried to resolve and answer all and any questions - keep in mind - and according to Jeremy questions do not need to have anything in common with Trader Joe merchandise. Disabled people are also allowed to shop in Trader Joe and to pay at certain designated register where others can also pay; thus disabled are treated equally to healthy individuals and must wait among healthy people - doesn't matter how long, doesn't matter if they are in pain or suffering from illnesses. Jeremy said that he cannot wait till he is old, ill, and in pain. Just wonderful personality! In conclusion: Poor management, unacceptable behavior of employees; negative attitude towards customers since the new manager took over the store. Low work moral. Employees act like customers are there to accommodate them, and not that the employees are there to be courteous, and kind to customers. STRANGE ?! Who hires these people?! This by far is my favorite TJ. Today I stopped by after work and needed to stock up on a few items(right). I noticed there weren't too many people checking out so I said to myself I picked a good day to come. After walking around and looking at the alcohol section, I saw the last line nearest to the Alcohol area was almost finishing with the customer so I wheeled the cart and got form in the line. The nice gal greeted me as she was finishing up the transaction. When it was my turn, she agreed said Hi and asked how I was doing? opened the eggs and noticed a small hairline crack which I didn't noticed and checked to make sure she can get me a replacement. She asked if I had a dog or know someone who did as they are giving free doggie treats and which I grab a canister. She bagged my items and overall was such a pleasure dealing with her. I even found the Manager Harrison to rave about Anahita who went above and beyond to acknowledged me and make me feel valued. Truly an asset and kudos. read more

First time here at this location I was staying down the street at the Hyatt Place and this was the closest "grocery store" Super cute and quaint store. The most amazing part was the deals on liquor. You can walk away with a bottle of Trader Joe tequila for $19. Amazing. I totally slept on these deals. I never have anything negative to say about the level of service I receive at Trader Joe's even if it's just at checkout. It's like the In-N-Out of grocery stores - employees actually seem happy! I hope this continues. I came in on a Wednesday afternoon after picking up a skincare order from Sephora, which is located in Bay Street Mall across the street. Anyway, I saw TJ's had Korean Pears for only $1.49. Everywhere else I see them they're always between $5 and $7, so I opt for the normal Anjou if it's available. Anyway, after trying the Korean Pear I wanted more. Not sure if I would like them, I only bought two. They're so watery , crisp and refreshing. The last time I felt this enthused by a piece of fruit was two years ago when I tried Star Fruit for the first time on Big Island. Outside of my pear experience, I prefer coming to this location in comparison to the one on Lakeshore in Oakland, even though that one is closer to me. Always have. I even prefer this location over the one in Alameda. I have the flexibility to go during the week when it isn't peak time for shoppers and I like taking advantage of that. The line wasn't long on Wednesday, it was easy to navigate through the store with a shopping cart, and I found something delicious. I do miss the Linguine with Clam Sauce, but there are plenty other freezer meals to choose from for those time I'm not in the mood to cook. read more

One gets hooked on TJs for key items and the rest follow like battle cruisers to the Death Star. Having been to many a TJ they do a great job of a uniform and high value experience. It was unfortunate that this one had some challenges for me to find some of my fav's - not stocked apparently at this location (!?) but such is life. We're not really Trader Joes people. We don't like plastic with our groceries and we don't really do microwaveable or frozen food. But we were in this area a few times so we stopped by. Sadly, our low waste plastic free delivery service is currently taking a break, which means we need to stock up on items from grocery stores that would normally come to us in a glass jar, but irl everywhere else come in plastic. So we grabbed some nuts, veggies, and some flavored sparkling water I found I really liked. But even though the low low Trader Joes prices won us over, I cringed when I grabbed plastic bottles or plastic bags and put them in our cart. Because at the end of the day, I tend to mostly do fresh fruits and veggies, with some rice and meat thrown in and prefer everything in compostable resealable ziplock bags or glass. If they did more of a push to be plastic free I'd probably try and visit them more often, but with their focus on frozen, (and the service neutral to slightly rude), I just don't see us coming back. read more

I always become the duchess of any TJ that's the closest to me. No joke. I shop at TJ so often that it's not even funny. For this particular TJ in my hood, it's always relatively easy to go in and out. It's clean, bright, organized, and has a good layout. Employees are friendly just like any other TJ. Parking is plenty. I don't know what not to like! I buy so many things here from cheese, yogurt, veggies, fruits, snacks, wine, chocolate, to hand soap and fresh flowers. Keep up the good work, TJ! This is by far my favorite TJ location to go. The employees are always so nice and welcoming. They always have the best wine selection without running out of inventory. There's always a parking spot no matter how busy the day. It's neighbor stores are a very good selection of places you might need to stop for all sorts of items for what ever the reason may be (liquor, clothing, pet store etc). Across the street walking distance is the Emeryville Bay Street plaza. You can leave your car in TJs lot and walk for free parking instead of paying in the plaza, and It's all close to my house. read more

Came here on a mission to purchase the maple butter! Unfortunately they were sold out! I found out that this was a seasonal item so I'll have to wait another year However during my visit, I stumbled upon a few new items and a few favorites of mine that I always pick up when I shop at Trader Joe's. I decided to try a new dipping sauce: zhoug sauce. To sum the flavor up, it reminds me of the chimichurri sauce but less acidic. It was so good with the sweet plantain chips from Trader Joe's! I also picked up the pork and chicken xiao ling baos! The chicken was ok but the pork and ginger one was superb! These are one of the juiciest xiao long baos I've ever had! It had more soup in the xiao long baos than Din Tai Fung! I recommend picking this one up if you're in the frozen food section! Another excellent frozen item is the vegetarian pad Thai! This is extremely flavorful and comparable to those served at Thai restaurants! Definitely worth a try! Lastly another favorite of mine are the tator tots! I always pick a bag up when I'm there! During this quarantine I was fortunate enough to try the maple butter and tested different recipes and it hit me that maple butter with tator tots are to die for! For those that like sweet and savory food, this is a must try with ketchup! I usually like seasoning the tator tots with Buffalo or Wild seasoning from Buffalo Wild Wings! :) Wait: there's usually a long line here and smaller than the el cerrito location, but they still have everything that I normally buy! Even going in early morning there's a line out the door! But I think that's more so due to regulating how many folks go inside due to Covid. Either way, the line moved smoothly and they sanitize the carts first before you grab one. Great selection of everything inside! And now I'm glad they limit the amount of people because it could get cozy real fast. I never realized there was a Trader Joe's in the little Emeryville Plaza. I went there for Daiso, only to notice there were less than a handful of people waiting in line. During COVID-19 times, this was a miracle. I had to stop shopping at Trader Joe's for a good two months because I couldn't deal with the 20-deep lines at Oakland's Grand Ave. or Alameda's South Shore location. But for whatever reason, this TJ's was practically empty (outside at least) at 1PM on a weekday. With the line being so short, I was inside within a few minutes. Now this store was small, which is fine, but it also meant less shelf space therefore, less products. I wanted to grab a few spices but they only had a small shelf full. Just the basics here. They also did not have my usual root veggie chips. Sad face. But overall, they had plenty for me to get and the store was clean and practicing distancing inside. I ended up in one of the regular lines and waited a good 10 minutes before one of the cashiers called me over to the express line. Note to self - ALWAYS check for an express line first. No one was in line so I was checked out and out of there after a total of 20 minutes in the store. Not bad at all. I would definitely return if I was in the area. I know it's silly when there is a TJ's within walking distance but I really can't deal with Grand Ave.'s lines anymore. Keep up the great work, Emeryville! read more

Through this whole ordeal that's called grocery shopping now. If I had to choose one store, or a one stop shop for food for my house, it'll be Trader Joe's. Why you ask? Let's go down the list of stores: Whole Foods: I'm furloughed. Do we really have to explain any further? It was expensive when I was getting a full pay check. Safeway: lines to check out are longer than launch day of a new iPhone. They have taken most items off ad, so very few sale priced items and their regular prices are high. Costco: unless I need 30 rolls of TP or just want to get out of the house, I don't really need to go. FoodMaxx: One Word: G-H-E-T-T-O. I prefer not to get in a fist fight while shopping. Which brings me finally to Trader Joe's. The lines to get in move fast. Everything I need for the most part is sold here. My typical Trader Joe's shopping list: Produce/eggs- both fruits and vegetables. i.e Bananas, avocados, onions, zucchini, broccoli in the bag, strawberries and of course the dozen eggs for $1.99 is always a must. Bread: Trader Joe's has decent sourdough. How I feel is if the bread isn't sour, don't call it sourdough. Theirs is actually sourdough bread. Dips/Salsa and snacks: Spicy Hummus, Olive Hummus, Pico de Gallo, pita chips, tortilla chips, plantain chips, and whatever tickles my fancy that particular day. meat: they have all the typical cheeses I want. Plus all the sliced Columbus cold cuts I like. Also other meats for dinner are available as well as chicken sausage etc. The list can go on, but basically everything is at Trader Joe's for a reasonable price. And more importantly the clientele that shop here have some common sense in these strange stressful times that are causing mass paranoia and irrational actions while in public. read more

During the midst of this pandemic, my hats go off to all the hard working individuals who still go to work everyday and interact with the general public. While we have seen all employers take steps to protect their employees and the public at large, some grocers have certainly done a better job than others. I have been to this Trader Joe's location several times both during this outbreak, and prior. The store itself has always been well-stocked, clean, with friendly and efficient workers, and that certainly has not changed even during this shelter-in-place. What has changed however is that the store has a plethora of signage both inside and outside the store reminding folks to stay 6ft apart, clearly marked tape on the parking lot floor signaling where customers should stand to maintain social distancing while waiting in the queue to get into the store, associates who spray down shopping carts and offer hand sanitizer before entering stores and after leaving, and staff who have all been provided with face masks and gloves to wear to protect themselves while at work. As already mentioned, the shelves are all really well stocked, and unlike some other grocers whom I will not name here, are not plagued by the emptied shelves and lack of basic essentials (milk, egg, tissue paper, etc..) that we are seeing across the nation. In addition, Trader Joe's is now banning the use of reusable bags within the store and offering paper bags free of charge. I applaud all of Trader Joe's efforts in both running an efficient operation as well as protecting the lives of employees and customers alike. Thank You! read more

This was the first visit to this location and first visit to Trader Joe's since the ''Corona Situation" started. The parking lot is great. It's in a shopping center and the lot is large. The spacing requirements are done well and orderly. The two gentlemen working outside were friendly and professional. Same goes with the employees inside. Nothing negative to say. So far this location, the one on Otis Dr. in Alameda, and the one on Coleman Ave. in San Jose are my favorites based on parking and size of store.
