    Portuguese egg tart
    Athena L.

Came here with some friends on a Saturday and there was no wait at 5. It got a little busier by the time we left at 7 though but not terrible. We all chose the Sukiyaki set that comes with a few appetizers and a few wagyu dishes that the Server will cook for you on your station. We had Kevin as our server and he was very hospitable, attentive and friendly and answered all our questions. For the food, I thought some things were out of place such as the option for a Portuguese egg tart as an appetizer. Lol, so I picked the tempura and it was delicious. Then the handroll options were also good, I had uni otoro and caviar. Nothing too crazy. But when it came to the meats, I thought everything was way too salty. Even with the raw egg dip, it was still too much. I was reaching for my water glass after every bite. Yes the quality of the meat was great but i feel like the overpowering sukiyaki masked the quality. By the time we reached the ayce portion of the meats, I was already full. I can see why they have all the appetizers at the beginning to fill you up first. All in all this isn't my favorite restaurant but I think it was a decent meal for a someone else's special occasion.

We came as a group of 6 and since they don't take reservations, we showed up 10 minutes before opening to find a line already forming. Once they opened the doors though we were seated immediately, so the wait was short. One thing worth knowing before you go is the seating setup. It's all bar style with the staff working in the middle, which means if you come with a big group you'll likely be spread out and only able to talk to whoever is right next to you. For that reason I'd say this spot is better suited for groups of 2 or 3 max. I was at the end of the bar and barely got to talk to half the people I came with, which was a little unfortunate. Now the food. Really good. You get to choose between the sukiyaki route or the hotpot route, and here's a tip I wish someone had told me beforehand. If you go the sukiyaki route, you get way more dishes AND you can still do hotpot at the end. I went hotpot only and had a great time, but knowing I could have had both would have changed my order instantly. The one thing I'd skip is the lobster roll with uni and caviar. It sounds impressive but the roll is tiny, the inside is lobster paste rather than actual chunks of lobster, and the flavor was just okay for the price. Everything else was solid and the service was great. Would definitely come back, ideally with just one other person so I can actually have a conversation the whole time!

Overall, we did enjoy our sukiyaki experience at Wagyu master given that the restaurant was only half empty on a Wednesday night. The staff were very friendly. My favorite part of the meal was the beginning. Chubby plus members get free drinks so that was a nice perk. I liked the Ume soda. The pastel de nata was not bad, but it definitely helped fill me up. I should've saved it for after the meal. The chef special was pretty good as well. I got the hand roll w/ foie gras in there - I enjoyed it. I love chawanmushi so I'm already biased there. What I didn't love was the seasoning for the sukiyaki. It was too salty for my preference. The meat was still good quality though. The donburi was pretty good, but again, too salty because they use the sukiyaki sauce. I do very appreciate the chef checking about rice portion size before giving it to us. As for the desserts - I agree with other reviews. It was a bit disappointing. The Mille cake was not fully defrosted and the mochi has a weird consistency that is not mochi-like at all. For the price, I do expect everything to be good quality, hence why I dropped it to 3 stars. (Side note: I really don't know how I got so bloated even though I don't think I ate as much as I would at an ayce???? We didn't even order extra rounds of meat because we were so full.)

Another Chubby restaurant opened, so I knew I had to try it. There's not a lot of places in the country that specializes in sukiyaki, so I definitely had to try this place. I got the tasting menu and I did not know it turns to an ayce after the tasting is set. Poke Salad (5/5): Got this for the appetizer and it was amazing. Super fresh and flavorful. Chef appetizer (5/5); This was an absolute treat. It comes with slices of sashimi, Wagyu tartare, and chawamushi with ikiura. It tasted very luxurious and even though this place does specialize in sushi, it was amazing. Otoro handroll (5/5); comes with Uni and shiso leaf. Another luxurious dish to eat! A5 meats (5/5): Super fatty and sweet with sukiyaki. Runny egg don (5/5): I loved how runny it was and comforting with the rice In order to make my moneys worth I had to get full with ayce. I really enjoyed my experience here and I want to give a shout-out to my server Michael! He did a great job at explaining and cooking the dishes. I also loved his recommendations

Shabu is my absolute favorite food and my friend and I frequent Mikiya ever since it opened. Wanted to love Wagyu Master, but the lack of service made us realize we would not come back. Before 6 PM on a Thursday, it was already pretty full but there were still plenty of seats available for those that were waiting inside. After waiting 15-20 minutes, we were first taken to the handicap table which we wouldn't have minded, but it was next to all the dirty rags and that's all you could smell so we asked to move. They don't provide you with the general AYCE menu and seem to push the tasting menu, but we knew we wanted to do AYCE shabu and eat at our heart's content. We placed the order of appetizers, meats, and rice. We wanted to order some soda, but there's no way to order off the tablet. I ordered through a server, but after 10 minutes and him just standing around, I ordered through someone else. The nigiri, rolls, and handroll were very top notch! This was definitely a nice to have. However we came to eat meat and not just sushi. The lobster roll wasn't very good and the bread was overly toasted. The crab croquette was just a creamy mess inside and didn't like it. My friend and I both got the miso tonkotsu broth, but it was so salty! We had to keep asking for water to be poured into our broth. The veggie plate has good veggies, but quite small in portion but you can order more if you want. We ordered the ribeye and shoulder. Both were very good, the shoulder was surprisingly better, nice marbling. The ribeye was a bit too fatty for our taste. After our first round of meats...we waited at least 15 minutes for our next round. We finally asked one of the servers and another 5 minutes, half of our meat order came out. The second half never arrived, nor did our bowls of rice. Everyone was catering just to the tasting menu diners. Everything was taking so long and we couldn't enjoy as much meat as we'd like, especially as they gave us the 90 minute time limit. I thought that was unacceptable given we were just sitting with no food coming out. The matcha mille cake was icy and gross. For $108 the meal didn't fit our standards as we didn't get to eat as much meat as we'd like. Will be sticking to Mikiya for AYCE shabu going forward.

I really enjoyed having my birthday dinner here. The vibe was great , food was delicious and the staff were very accommodating. Our waiter was Brandon, he was very friendly and helpful in explaining the menu options. It was a great first experience we will definitely come back.

YOU GUYS!!! You really should starve yourself all day before coming here. The appetizers that come with the meal is already plentiful but then there's the meal itself plus theres an AYCE option. At first glance the menu is overwhelming. A server came and explained it to my party. I went with the BBQ and my friend went with the hot pot. The BBQ option is considered the show because they prepare all the meats and then serve it up. You really just sit back and enjoy. The hot pot is self serve so feels a little more relaxing. The slower pace would have been nice considering tons of appetizers came out in quick succession. Lots of seafood appetizers like tempura (the lobster tempura had a very wet and soft consistency), sashimi, egg tart thing with caviar I think. Then there is a waygu hand roll. These were my picks. There was also poke salad or lobster roll to choose from. The Waygu were pretty large pieces. Cooked down was still a few bites. The striploin was just okay. Ribeye was way better. Much more tender and flavorful. For the final dish I picked the Udon. It was cooked in all that Waygu juice left behind. So good! The dessert option was matcha mochi or matcha crepe cake. The cake was bitter. The server mentioned many people complained about the cake. I'm glad I was too full to try more than a bite. Highly ùnrecommended. My next visit I would go with the hotpot with ribeye. That just seemed to be the hit. It's pricey but worth it if you're into all the seafood.

Really surprised by the highly rated reviews here. My experience was pretty mediocre. We were first in line and got seated immediately when they opened. The waiters were very helpful in getting us situated and explaining the menu. However, we did have to ask for the Sukiyaki Lite menu (only available Monday - Thursday). Everything on that menu is the same except the meat is A4 instead of A5. After we placed our order, the appetizers come out pretty fast. The sashimi was fresh, but the king Alaskan crab was dry. Then it felt like we waited 30 mins for the meat to come out. For sukiyaki, the waiters cook the first round for you. For shabu, you just cook it yourself. I didn't think either the A4 or A5 was that delicious. For the price point, I feel like I should have had my socks knocked off. Overall a solid amount of food but Mikiya is way better, quality and quantity wise. I probably will not be back.

The Chubby Group keeps you in shape...ROUND but still a shape nonetheless. In this economy, AYCE just makes sense and Chubby Group is giving what the people want with their AYCE BBQ and Shabu restos. They've been rapidly expanding with over 25+ concepts (i.e. The X Pot, Niku X, Chubby Cattle, Mikiya, etc.) and aim to have over 1000 locations in the United States in the next 5 years. Waygu Master is their newest, upscale concept offering A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki and/or Shabu. A5 is Toriyama Umami Wagyu from Gunma Prefecture, Japan. M E N U For a first timer, the menu is confusing AF. It would benefit from either being simplified or more clearly explained. There's two tasting menus: (1) Sukiyaki, chef cooks for you ($98 pp/$85 pp member) (2) Shabu, DIY ($88 pp/$75 pp member) For a surcharge, you can get AYCE A5, sushi, and everything listed in the menu. NOTE: A4 WAGYU IS AYCE WITH NOOOO SURCHARGE. No alkie. No kid's discounted pricing. M E M B E R S H I P Chubby PLUS Membership is currently $58 for one year and works for ALL Chubby Cattle concepts: - Up to $26 off your first meal, and subsequent meals - Free tea every month - Earn points for special dishes - $55 off your birthday meal Existing local members, can upgrade for $28.88. For NFT lifetime membership, you receive 30% off every meal for all concepts, free food/drinks, access to rezzies + exclusive soft openings, and more. Price depends on crypto market. On the Saturday night we visited, I called ahead and was told no wait for their patio. Arrived in 15 minutes. However, after checking in, they decided to not open up the patio so we were seated inside. Weekend waits can be 2+ hours; we got lucky and waited 20-25 minutes. S H A B U T A S T I N G ($75 PP MEMBER) COURSE#1: TEMPURA - Shrimp, Snow Crab Croquette, and Sweet Potato Freshly fried, the shrimp tempura was hot and crunchy. The crab croquette was disappointing, more like runny mashed potatoes with no real crab flavor or noticeable pieces of crab. COURSE #2: ZENSAI - Chef's Daily Special * Sashimi - Hamachi, sake, and chutoro Fresh, smooth, and buttery! * A5 Wagyu Tartare BYO handroll, the crispy nori was a nice contrast to soft, richly marbled A5. A raw quail egg would have elevated it. * Chawanmushi w/ uni + ikura Surprisingly solid - the savory custard was silky smooth and jiggly with a savory sweet umami. COURSE #3: CHOICE OF APP - A5 Handrolls w/ luxe additions, O-toro Nigiri, Lobster Roll, King Crab Legs, A5 Teppanyaki, and more * A5 Wagyu Handroll w/ uni Rich, slightly smoky flavor of the torched A5 was delicious with the sweet briny uni. * A5 Wagyu Nigiri w/ foie gras Meltingly soft and buttery with a deep umami. I wanted more! COURSE #4: SHABU * Broths (individual pots): - Miso Tonkotsu: Too salty. - Sukiyaki: Fav of the two, imparting a savory sweetness but also too salty. Broths are not on par with Mikiya. Next time, I would get the sukiyaki and request to dilute it with dashi/hot water. * Meats - A5 Chuck Roll, Brisket, Shoulder Maybe we hit them on a good night - I found the A5 quality at Wagyu Master superior to Mikiya. The cuts were fresh, richly marbled, and not as thin (didn't tear easily). - A4: Three different cuts of Australian Wagyu Light marbling, quite lean but still tender. We were dying after one plate of the A4 so the AYCE A5 would be overkill. * Veggie Platter: Maitake mushrooms, carrots, corn, tofu, napa cabbage, and bean thread (?) noodles. Fresh, no complaints. * Dipping sauces: HK-style Seafood (XO vibes), Ponzu, and House Sesame All three were hella salty. Instead, I asked for a raw egg for dipping. Disappointing that the raw egg dip was diluted with water. * Carbs: Wagyu Curry Rice, A5 Gyudon, White Rice, and/or Udon N/A- Skipped. COURSE #5: DESSERT- Choice of Matcha Mochi or Matcha Mille Crêpe Cake (they need a non-matcha option) We shared a Matcha Mille Crêpe Cake - strong matcha flavor, slightly bitter and grassy. Felt like an afterthought tho so don't expect Lady M or Antoine Pâtisserie quality. S E R V I C E The host and our server, Kevin was awesome, friendly, and accommodating but spread too thin. Food came out quickly which I appreciated. A M B I A N C E Trendy club vibes with counter seating for about 30 people inside and about 5-6 four-tops tables in the shaded patio. Since you're facing the center with staff rushing around, inside felt chaotic. My biggest pet peeves: 1) When you're dropping $100 pp for a "high-end experience", rezzies should be available. 2) Since opening in late February 2026, I've been calling periodically to inquire when the patio will open. Each attempt required 8-10+ back-to-back calls like a stage 10 clinger...just to reach a human. Overall, we really enjoyed the shabu tasting menu - the quality felt a step above Mikaya and well worth the $75 pp (pre-tip). That said, insufficient staffing, indoor dining set-up, and the lack of rezzies took away from the experience.

Denny was great! Came here with a long time friend to try the place out and was not disappointed. One of the better quality Wagyu I've had in the Bay Area, and the uniqueness of a 3-course sukiyaki meal during soft opening was well worth it. They have AYCE upgrade to the menu and let you choose to have more or less carbs, so you don't waste your own money thinking you can eat a lot from the beginning. Just the regular meal was plenty for us! Appetizers were amazing, and their specialty dishes like the Wagyu steak or Hand roll with Foie Gras were definitely highlights. Service was attentive as well! Came around 4:30 pm on a Friday and there was no wait, but there was already a line out the door when we finished so be prepared to wait. Would return!

Intimate sukiyaki/shabu restaurant. Bar type seating. Recently opened part of chubby group. Still working on their liquor license but variety of drinks to choose from. Minh was our server and explained the menu carefully. We went for the sukiyaki tasting menu and came with a limited ACYE option at the end for A4 meats. Cooked and plated the main courses well and to our liking. Sukiyaki a bit different here. In the stone pot, used splashes of sukiyaki and coated the meats for a slightly sweet and tender bite. The main dishes of meat were tender and delicious. Adding the vegetables was a nice touch and went well with the sukiyaki. Minh was great at pacing our dishes and letting me get shots of the food. Started with Portuguese egg tart and tempura. Buttery and flaky egg tart. Snow crab tempura was creamy. The zensai came with 3 big fat slabs of fish which was decent quality. Uni steamed egg and the raw beef was tasty. The A5 wagyu hand roll with foie gras and A5 teppanyaki wagyu was buttery. At the end of the main dishes they give you an option for udon or silken egg donburi on the pot. The udon would pass next time as it was a bit doughy in the middle. Silken egg was soft and soaked all the sukiyaki. Ended up doing some AYCE shabu with the A4 meats which is part of the tasting menu. Tomato soup was good and think the meat quality here is better than Mikiya. Desserts I would pass next time. They were both hard. Mochi was doughy and filling didn't taste good. The Mille crepe was frozen like a rock when I got it. Service can be better for greeting and seating. Walked in initially and didn't get seen or greeted till we had to grab their attention. There was only one other party eating at the moment. There were multiple employees and one of them door had their back towards the door on their phone. Service for the server was phenomenal. Small parking lot here.

The food was great quality, though the menu was a lot to follow. Thankfully our waitress was helpful in breaking it down. It had an all you can eat menu but the food set itself was A LOT and no one ended up ordering from the AYCE menu. It was a full house and every seat was taken up when we arrived, but we received our food relatively quick. Service was decent given the newness of the restaurant and how busy it was. If you order from the Sukiyaki menu, the employees help you cook your meats which was nice. The only thing that disappointed was the matcha dessert cake and mochi which we did not find tasty or flavorful (kinda bitter). The seating layout seen in the picture is better suited for smaller groups, since it's one big rectangle.

Our servers Minh and Kyle were fantastic! If it's your first time like ours I would recommend one person getting the sukiyaki and other other goes with the shabu course. There's no restriction on sharing so you get the best of both worlds! Chefs special was sashimi with silken egg topped with salmon roe and seas urchin. The fish was decent quality and the egg was a nice touch! We went with the tempura which came with shrimp, eggplant and a custard one. The custard tempura was really hot and I wish the other tempura were served at the same temperature. The other two had gotten cold. Egg tart is a must try! Perfect sweet treat before getting into the heavy items. The waygu handroll we had the sea urchin version and the foie gras. The foie gras had much more flavor and the urchin was over powered by the amount of seaweed. The small Wagyu bite topped with butter and melted with flame was a favorite of ours. Sukiyaki meats were very good quality and had a slight sear on the thicker meat. Me and my boyfriend loved it! We ended up skipping on the grains to keep room for the waygu meats. Shabu we had the spicy tonkatsu broth! Veggies were good but I wasn't a fan of the mushrooms. Meats were thinly sliced and were delicious. We were very happy with the quality of the meat and it had the perfect marble with not too much fat. Desert was too frozen. Both the matcha crepe cake and the mochi. It could had been defrosted more for a better experience. Overall we were super happy with the experience and would definitely come back to try out the other broths on the menu!

How much is the corkage fee?

They didn't have their liquor license yet when I went in April. You can call and ask

Do they have high chairs and kids friendly?

They had a few (very tall) high chairs. I wouldn't say it's too kid friendly since the restaurant inside is small and cramped. Outside there's more room if tables are open. I personally wouldn't take my toddler here but a baby would be fine.

Does their phone work? Cause no one ever picks up or returns messages?

I don't see where you can make reservations? Does this place take reservations?

They don't accept reservations. In the beginning, you can virtually add yourself on the waitlist. However, as of last night, we had to go in person to add ourselves on the waitlist.

Are they open all day (11-10) or close open separately for lunch (11-3) and dinner (5:30pm - 9)? Instagram says they are now open all day starting March 6th, but yelp & google say another; I tried calling but no answer.

    How is the food? I

Looks pretty but definitely not the quality advertise. You can go in for an experience but don't expect too much.

Are kids allowed? What is the age and pricing for kids?

We brought our baby in a stroller for lunch and they were fine with it. They had a few high chairs but I didn't see pricing for kids.

Even though they aren't too far from me I hadn't heard of them before. It's an unassuming spot tucked into a shopping center next to a bagel and water shop, but it gets crowded, and for good reason. This was only my second time ever having hot pot, the first time was not AYCE and was an individual pot, so it was fun to try the shared AYCE way. We picked two broths, the Shrimp and signature, and then went down the menu selecting proteins and other add-ons. We went with the Ultra over the supreme so we could get some of the nicer cuts of meats. They have happy hour pricing of a few dollars off earlier in the evening, which was going on when we were in. Non-meat dd-on favorites included the Napa cabbage, kabocha squash, ramen, bok choy, and shitake mushrooms. We got the Enoki mushrooms the first round, but switched to shitake for round two and they were the favorite. My boyfriend's favorite meat was the wagyu, and I was partial to the pork and angus beef, but everything was good.

Soups are flavorful, garlic actually comes through, meat is good quality that melts in your mouth, marbling looks good. I will say that the broth does end up becoming really salty near the end but you can ask the servers for more broth.

When going with AYCE you pick your broth (from the menu) then go make your sauce concoction, grab veggies and such from buffet, and bring everything back to the table. You order the meat from the menu and it will be delivered to your table too (usually very quickly). If you do not want All You Can Eat, you can get any of their pre-made hot pots. Been dining at this location for as long as I can remember and I'm definitely a fan of their soups…read more My go-to is their beef hot soup medium spice level which hits the spot every single time. The broth is flavorful, meat slices are fair, and I enjoy all of the other various fish balls, veggies, and more provided as well. Their soybean paste is my favorite and it pairs well with everything. I've dined here when they tried doing Malatang and I wasn't much of a fan so I'm glad they got rid of that style. Now they offer AYCE and I very much enjoy it! They updated the place with new tables and different stations offering a variety of fish balls, veggies, tofu, noodles, a drink station, sauce bar, and more that you can choose from. They also have ice cream to end your meal. As for the meats, out of all the choices I'm a fan of their angus marbled beef slices and angus beef slices. The meats are good quality, not frozen, sliced thin, and cooked very fast. I got the tom yum broth and it was flavorful. It was cool that our server was able to accommodate my mom as she wanted the cheesy milk broth since it isn't offered on the AYCE menu. I was already a fan of their hot pots before the AYCE option, and now I enjoy it even more!

I got the mala broth…read more It's neat how each person gets their individual broth - from my experience it's more common to have a communal broth in the middle of a table. I think they use induction heaters so it is pretty slick and easy to control. The table itself felt a bit cramped though, and we had to play a bit of tetris to manage everything. There are vegetables that revolve around a conveyer belt for us to grab. The sauce bar is pretty small and got a bit chaotic. The hot food bar was also pretty small. The quality of the food is good. The mala broth was spicy. I think this place has really good value. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that similar places do but the price is hard to beat. Plus, it feels pretty tech forward with the induction heaters and converter belt.

**3.5 rounding up to 4 stars**…read more I wished they had more tables to accommodate bigger parties but it was interesting sitting bar style in front of the conveyor belt! My only complaint was that it was hard to conversate depending how you're seated. Service was great! Meats came out quickly but I didn't like the limitation where you're only able to order more meat if you only had 1 left but I understand. It was hard to figure out where to put the empty plates and bowls after we were done with it without appearing too messy or inconsiderate of the people around us but us sitting at the end helped. Very simple cuts of meat and options but not bad to just get your pot hot fix in but definitely limiting for meats and sauces. Surprisingly, they had a lot of appetizers I enjoyed like the chicken wings, gyoza, and of course, french fries! But if you're not mindful then you may get full of that vs what you're here for, which is the meat and conveyor belt items lol. The concept and seating is definitely interesting and I felt like I was in Japan. I just wish there were more options.

My go-to order is SUMO Premium American American Kobe with Traditional Seaweed (Konbu) soup. The American Kobe is much more marbled and tender than the more expensive Angus Prime Ribeye. Sure, the ribeye is a 'better' cut but its actually not as good for Shabu since the thin slices negates the need for the ribeye to be a tender cut. The Angus Prime Ribeye is generally and usually not as marbled as the Premium American Kobe Beef at this place. Regular/Large/Sumo is 5/8/11 oz if you are wonder, I asked.

We'd return, but if we had to choose, we prefer the Cupertino location.  We visited on a Thursday right around noon, and there weren't many other patrons, probably 2-3 other groups. We were greeted by a friendly hostess/waitress and seated quickly. She efficiently seated and served multiple tables and was appropriately attentive, even offering some spicy drops to add to the soup. We each got our usual order of sumo ribeye and kimchi base soup. This location gave us two soup pots, which is a nice plus. At the Cupertino location, they only give one pot for us to share, and if a broth refill is needed, they refill with the standard water/seaweed broth. We prefer the flavor of the kimchi broth and dipping sauces (ponzu & sesame) at the Cupertino location. The San Jose location felt watered down - we would've been happy to share one pot of broth if it meant a more flavorful soup base and dipping sauces. This location, though, is larger and brighter than the Cupertino location. Their seating arrangement allows for larger groups - they have multiple tables that accommodate 4 (2 burners) and 6 (3 burners). They also have settings for 2 (1 burner). Parking is also more abundant (at least when we came) vs. the Cupertino location.

The interior isn't anything fancy and it's a typical hole in the wall Asian restaurant but that's how you know the food is gonna be good. I'd also have to admit their service was lackluster back then but they've improved a whole lot since then. I only order two things when I come here and it's always the #38 Thai seafood hotpot which is tom yum based and the #1 banh khot. Their Thai seafood hotpot always hits and has stayed consistent throughout the years. It's a classic tom yum soup base with a variety of different items like fish balls with roe (loveeee), lobster balls, shrimp, mussels, and so much more. They did switch up their hotpot veggies though and it's a platter of lettuce and cabbage now whereas before they used to have crown daisy (which was so much better) but that's okay. As for their banh khot, this is my favorite place to get it. It's always so fresh! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and the flavor is always on point. Definitely a worthy spot to visit if you haven't had the chance to stop by yet.
