Sunday after church and the kiddo wanted waffle house. We headed in and it was a bit busier than normal and we had quite the wait time. Rita was the hostess at the door and overall the atmosphere just seemed a bit tense. My husband took the time to talk to her and hopefully it relieved some of the attention that seemed to be hanging in the air. Sunday brunch Katrina's daughter likes chocolate chip waffles, so we walked into to a packed house. Everyone enjoy each other's company and some Waffle House specialties. Not a long wait at all. I ordered breakfast online for pickup. My order was a waffle, a chicken breast, and hashbrowns with onions. It was ready on time. Olu (I think was her name) handed me my phone when I got there and told me she'd added butter and syrup to my bag). She was very pleasant. I got home, buttered my waffle and started cutting it up. It seemed a little thought but I just figured it was because I got my food to go. I poured the syrup on, took a bite, and tasted that my waffle was burnt. I started turning over pieces of the waffle to see that yes, it was visbly burnt on the underside. I was upset but had to get in my car and go back there to fix it as it was inedible and with all of the extra fees they charge to order online, I wanted my food done right. I immediately went back up there with the waffle to get a proper one. Olu was nice and offered me a drink while she made sure my waffle was remade properly. I heard her tell a short lady who I'm assuming was over the food today that they'd served me a burnt waffle. The short lady says, "So she wants a light waffle. Ok." This was one of the best Waffle Houses I've ever been too. The ones in Austin, TX I never get served at because either they don't have a cook, or its closed and someone is yelling at you that their not serving anyone. But this place was totally fully staffed. I didn't have to wait long to be seated and they brought my food out to me hella quick, My experience here was so good I made sure to eat there everyday while I was in Dallas cause I knew I was never going to get the service I did here in Austin. This was our first time at a Waffle House. Yvonne greeted us and assured us that our wait would not be long for a table. She also kept the music going and clearly enjoyed her job as she danced around cleaning tables and talking to the other customers. Couldn't eat half my food my eyes was bigger than my stomach but I ate most of the grits it was so good love their grits! To me the waffle is just ok I really went for the bacon it's so crunchy and the grits! It is is always hectic in there but the waitresses they do their best and always get my order right! It's not always that clean in there probably because of the volume of people in there and it's always packed! Avoid this location at all cost, to save everyone from a long extravagant story let me just lay it out in dash marks -the entire meal took over 1 hour (this is pretty long for a Waffle House meal) -they burned my waffle 3 times, on the fourth time I used the timer myself to make sure it wouldn't be burned -the three workers were fighting between each other, making the entire dining experience very uncomfortable -my order of bacon had been ready for over 5 minutes but was sitting forgotten on the bench, resisted the urge to grab it myself, had to remind the server twice for it -other customers coming in had no where to sit because all the tables were dirty In the land of Waffle Houses my expectations are pretty low, but my experience here was just not worth it. HEALTH WARNING: OK, I hadn't been to the waffle house in years so I thought I would check one out. I stopped in, and grabbed a cheeseburger with hashbrowns. I was in the mood to give them probably a three star rating, the restaurant could've been a little cleaner, tables were dirty, I sat at the counter and it wasn't really clean, but everything else went well.... UNTIL I was walking to the door and I saw what looked like.... a cockroach on steroids. The thing was huge.I was almost about to grab a picture of it, but it ran away too fast. This thing was probably about 2 inches long and probably about 3/4 of an inch wide. My stomach kind of turned just a bit. If I would've seen that as I was walking in, I probably would not have stayed to eat. I'm thinking if there is one huge cockroach, there's probably at least one other hiding around somewhere. I didn't see any behind the counter or in the food prep area, this was near the front door. It may have just snuck in from outside because of the rain, but who knows. It is only three patties. BUT, they are delicious! Hashbrowns: I know you can have so many combinations, but I like them plain and extra crispy. Waffle: Make sure to add chocolate chips! Food was meager on protein and high on carbs, with all the options looking very much like every other option. Although it's inexpensive, there is little value in the food. If you just need a quiet place to chat over coffee, it works. I think if they invested some in improving the overall appearance the building, revisited their menu, and had a little music playing in the background, it would do a lot for it. We came in after the storm on 10/21/19 and they had a no power menu available. They also had a full maintenance team working to get everything up and running. Many customers were complimenting how the kitchen was working as a team. Efficiently, together and all orders were correct. They kept the coffee hot and the glasses full. I ordered the hash browns with mushrooms, jalapeños and cheese. The mushrooms were out of a jar along with the jalapeños and there was one piece of plastic wrapped american cheese. One top of that I ordered an extra order of Bacon. You can NEVER have enough Bacon! When I ordered the extra bacon one of my roommates gave me more lip about my hypertension and all. I was like, "Shhh, not in the presence of the Bacon!" I don't care how bad it is, this is one type of meat that I will never give up. I think the best part of the meal was my waffle. The WORST experience tonight (2-19-23) just before midnight, maybe 11:45 pm when I arrived. I'm gonna tell it like it happen. I thought I was going to have a pleasant experience because the first time I went there was during the day and the service was friendly. Tonight the moment you walked in the door the waitress had an attitude. There was only one waitress and I didn't get her name. She was African American, on the younger side, with some big fake lashes, and I believe a blue head wrap or something on her head. So as I was saying It was a little before midnight and one man was eating at the bar area and there was two men sitting at a booth. I went to sit at the booth as I like room to eat and be comfortable . The waitress was like oh no booth are for two or more she said she likes to have single people at the bar. First off is that even a policy they have to in-force, and grant it was not even busy. The two men at the booth was about to leave and soon there only be one customer so why couldn't I sit at a booth. So I was hungry and didn't feel like letting this woman who obviously hated being there to ruin my evening. Grant it I had just worked a double shift myself yet I remain like any normal human would. So I sat at the bar area so to speak and I ordered my food. I had went to the bathroom and when I came back I sat one seat next to my original seat so that I can have room to put my purse . The waitress in a not so nice tone said are you sitting there or here and I was like here so I have room and she turned around an mumbled some stuff to the cook. Food came out and I had order double hash. Never had before but being that I had just worked a double and hadn't eaten I was hungry and the waitress made the comment ain't nothing but hash browns in there. First off RUDE and it's none of your business what I eat! And I had planned to give my senior dog some, as he loves potatoes. And grant it all the food is served in plastic ware from the plates to the silver ware I guess so there's no dishes. So the waitress gave me my food, made a comment about me order extra hash browns and I walked off. Never even giving me syrup for my waffle. I had to ask the gentleman next to me if I could borrow his. I was feeling like not being there. This waitress made it so bad to even feel welcomed. Did not feel welcomed at all but a bother. Another man walked in and wanted to sit at the booth and the waitress was so rude saying bar area only same as she told me. The man was a bigger man and tall and he wanted to sit at the booth and she was so rude. Said naw bar or to go then. I told the man she has been rude this whole time. She started raising her voice at the man and saying how she the only waitress etc and by that time I had had enough!!!! I had taken one sip of my coffee and one bite of my waffle and I was like no I am not staying here because you are too rude. She was like where are you going?? I was like I'm leaving you are rude! She was like oh NO YOU gotta pay and I said I am not paying for that you are too rude , that I would be talking to the manager I and walked out. I saw her on the phone as I drove away!!!!!!!! I will NEVER EVER GO BACK TO THIS LOCATION! And if I do it better be because Waffle House gave me a free meal!!!! And trust me it wouldn't be during her shift.
