Its a Diner and doesn't pretend to be anything else. Love that! My Family walked in the host said you can sit where you like! service was quick and efficient food was all solid diner food. I didn't have "lofty" expectation of the chicken fried steak but it was solid and the mashed potatoes were not instant! everything else my family had was good also! will definitely be back when we are nearby. read more

Well - I hate to leave a bad review on a place i previously loved. Today was awful. We arrived at 10 to have a birthday brunch for a friend. We didn't get our food until 10:35. We had to insist she take our order with our drink order, I'm glad we did! One burger and the rest were basically egg and muffins. No reason for 25 minutes to cook The ambiance. Not busy at all read more

When we first arrived we were seated at a booth near the window, where there were flies. The server asked if we wanted to be seated at another booth, at that booth there was a spider crawling so I had to kill him as he crawled on the table. I got soap/wet paper towel to clean the table. The window seal wasn't clean. I also went into the bathroom and noticed one of the employees didn't wash her hands after she used the toilet she stood in front of the mirror and left out the bathroom. I thought ALL employees were to wash their hands apparently not. Thank God she wasn't our server. I don't like that Normas cafe we only went because it was near my work. I wasn't happy, even the food is different from the Normas near the tollway. read more

Me and my wife ordered the same thing. Eggs, hashbrowns, sausage and biscuit and gravy. Sausages were like hockey pucks and tasteless. Biscuits were big but not the best tasting ones. Gravy was very cold and bland. Hashbrowns tasted like cooking oil and no flavor. Eggs average Food was just cooked very bad and we ended up noting even eating half our food. Wish we expressed how we felt about the food but we were in a rush. Atmosphere is awesome and booths were comfortable. read more

I have gone to this place for years, but the last few times have not been that good. The service has been aweful. I waited almost a full 5 min. before anyone noticed I was sitting there. they were not very busy, but the wait time to get my food was very long. I had to beg to get the check so I could leave. This will not be my first choice for breakfast anymore. read more

It was date night and I had seen a Facebook reel promoting Norma's and it looked good plus the Americana style was awesome. We arrived and its located in a big shopping center with many stores and restaurants. We entered and were seated quickly. You are surrounded with so many historical items that will bring you a smile. I ordered the chicken fried steak that I saw on FB and wife ordered catfish. Our server was kind and brought us cornbread to munch on while we waited for our food. The restrooms are located at the back of the restaurant next to Big Boy. The chicken fried steak sides were ok (broccoli, okra, green beans). The actual steak had the oil taste which was strong. The catfish did not taste good. Our server offered apple pie and that was good. I think we will be back but for breakfast. The service and environment were good yet the main dishes not as good as seen on Facebook. read more

I don't know what's wrong with this restaurant staff, they're over staffed but still you have to wait a long time for even a small order, it seems they only care about those customers who dine in , you can feel the discrimination, terrible management , definitely not coming back ... read more

I was under the weather so my friend had me a door dash sent to my address. I was so disappointed in the food. The chicken fried steak was greasy and very tough. The cornbread dressing was horrible.the Mac and cheese was the worst I've ever had. I almost vomited when I tried to eat this mess.how can people think they can serve you anything and you suppose to eat it.i never want their food again. It was really bad. read more

Norma's is always a treat and it's tough to decide what you want to eat when they have so many amazing breakfast, lunch, and dinner options including a special. This time around we got the Ol' Number 7 and the catfish nugget special. The service is always friendly and the waiter kept my coffee cup full and brought me extra cream when I asked. The interior is also just like you'd want your local diner to look like. read more

I think ownership changed. It used to be great. Now it seems like everything is frozen, not fresh. Rolls used to be great, chicken fried steak was great, now everything tastes like it was just defrosted. Its sad. read more

So disappointed! It was 75 degrees and sunny outside and we entered into a sauna. This place was so hot! The hostesses multiple nose piercings which was a bit surprising in the dining atmosphere. Though, she was very nice, the facial piercings were a bit unappealing in a restaurant. Service was so slow! Took us over an hour for pancakes and Eggs Benedict. Will probably let another 5-10 years pass before we attempt this place again. read more

The service was okay. The food was also okay. I wanted some good home cooking and I got the chicken fried chicken and it was a little under seasoned. read more

Cornbread was veggie oil filled tasted awful.... Chicken fried chicken could not cut with knife breading had no taste so over cooked worst thank a chicken tender ( that would have been better).... Omg pale box potatoes.... Never asked about more gravey.... Ice in water and I say " very little" twice never brought out correct..... it was awful and not a healthy choice.... I see them out of buisness soon with that literally awful food! Sad as I was hear year ago and ok good! Not now... scared to eat there after tonight! read more

No Coconut Pie in the display case? Oops...ok so I'm not that upset. I really didn't need it but just a little sign,Normas is slipping. This or any of the other locations, are not as good as the original on Davis St in Oak Cliff. The food tonight wasn't quite as good as in the past. Not as many customers. All the signs are there for a decline. However,at $11.99 for a plate of food in 2024 is a bargain and maybe you have to lower expectations. The complimentary rolls and cornbread are as good as ever. I'll keep coming occasionally and hope they pick up the slack on the coconut pie inventory. Tonight's chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes/gravy, steamed broccoli and black eye peas was tasty. Plus, there was enough leftover for Wednesday lunch. read more

We've admired Norma's diner like vibe from the busy parking lot on weekends when we go to our nearby gym and wanted to check it out. We used this curiosity as the perfect excuse to go for lunch on a Sunday. We started by splitting one of their cinnamon rolls. The size was impressive, no doubt, but I found myself missing my grandma's cinnamon rolls as this one was a bit dry and you had to rely on the icing. Our meals didn't disappoint however. I went with the Chilaquiles with chorizo and it was outstanding. The portion was very generous and the flavor was great. Yum! My husband went with the Rise & Shine burger with the hash browns, bacon, and fried egg and liked it. His only challenge was finding the composition of the burger's ingredients were a bit messy and the bun didn't hold up (it didn't prevent him from eating it!). Our server was friendly and attentive and she was managing a good sized section on a busy day. read more

I had high hopes for Norma's Cafe, but unfortunately, it was a complete disappointment from start to finish. The wait for our food was excessively long, and when it finally arrived, it wasn't worth the wait. The fruit tasted like it had freezer burn, and both the pancakes and French toast had a weird, indescribable taste that made them hard to eat. The bacon was overcooked to the point of resembling pork rinds--completely inedible. We ended up leaving $50 worth of food untouched on the table, which should say everything about the quality of the meal. Safe to say, we won't be returning. Save your time and money--there are better places to eat in town. read more

Norma's Cafe PLANO, EAST This is our second time to go, within a 6 week period. We said we wouldn't go back after the first, 6 weeks ago. Yes, we've been before but at least 4 months ago. There's been not much improvement, unfortunately. First off, had to ask for rolls and cornbread. The cornbread was hard and burnt. The drinks were then delivered, iced tea and coke. But never got refills without asking. .. had to ask .......not a big deal. Ordering..... well that was an ordeal. They were out of everything we wanted. Meatloaf, Smoked Chicken, and French fries. No telling what else. This was on Sunday, at 5:15 pm. Keeping in mind, they don't close until 8pm. We did finally get our order in. Our side salad and soup came out about 10 minutes of ordering our food. I was expecting our entrees any minute now after we finished our side soup and salad. I was getting a little inpatient. So I started timing. It's now 5:35. I asked our server, Tim at 6:02 where the food is ? He said there was a mix up in the kitchen and the food will be out momentarily. Can we have a refill on drinks and how about some better cornbread ? Told my husband, let's just leave.... He said, that would be rude. I'm seeing a couple that walked in, ordered their food , ate and left....all within an hours time....wth ???? Asked again, Tim said waiting on mashed potatoes to be done. I said just bring our food now so it's hot. Husband said, it'll be hot. Ughhh Our food FINALLY showed up at 6:32. Yes, an hour after ordering !! For a 2 top table. Both ordered Chix Fried Chix with mashed potatoes, one had green beans, other had corn. Gravy on chix and potatoes. Well no gravy on either chix. Potatoes were cold, the ones we were waiting on. Corn, had old kernels mixed in with new ones. Chix was warm..... not piping hot but not cold. Got half way done with our food and low and behold, my side salad shows up. Tim said, here's your side salad. I told him I already got mine, that he brought and ate it. Couldnt wait to get out of there. Will not be returning. Food should of been comped or very least discounted. Tim does need some training and better people skills. We did leave a tip at 23%. Because honestly, not sure who was at fault. Other folks were complaining as well. This really was unacceptable to wait an hour for entrees. Sorry Normas.....i can't give zero stars bc that's what was deserved. We come from Murphy. Guess Cotton Patch Cafe will be our to go place , still. read more

My friend and I wanted to have breakfast together and she recommended Norma's Cafe because she comes to Dallas restaurant often. The waitresses were very quick to seat and serve us and they checked up on us often. Personally the food was nothing special, just average and regular. I'm sure there are entrees that are great! I like how the restaurant looks, it's very cute. I would love to come back to try their Mile High Pies. My concerns lie with the women's bathroom that didn't have a pleasant smell - it's like the trash cans were not emptied out or an area in the bathroom was not wiped, cleaned, and sanitized. It smelled like fish (marinated period p*ssy). Both my friend and I agreed that their water tasted funny. It didn't taste soapy. It tasted funky. The water left a weird nasty aftertaste and feeling in my mouth. I'm a water drinker where I would have to get my water refilled by servers at restaurants, just not this time and not at this restaurant. TLDR: Food is average, but I'm sure there are great entrees that are loved by Norma's regulars. Bathroom smelled really bad. Wouldn't drink the water. Would come back only to try their Mile High Pies. read more

Have dessert first for sure. The lemon meringue is amazing. Loved it. Great little nostalgic spot. Highly recommend.

Went to Normas for my husband's birthday. He got his usual chicken and dressing and really enjoyed it. A friend got the BLT and onion rings and said it was very good. I had the chicken Caesar salad and it was good too. Our waitperson was doing pretty well since she had almost all of the tables. Best was his slice of birthday coconut pie. Prices here are still affordable. We will go back. read more

My husband and I have been coming to Norma's since they opened in Plano. This meal was atrocious and it's the end of our patronage. The chicken fried steak looked pale and gummy and the meat was tough. The service was lackluster and sporadic. Such a disappointment. read more

Decided to check out this place last night for dinner. Its a cute dinner but we weren't impressed with the food. We ordered catfish plate, chicken fried chicken, kids pancake and mac n cheese. Both catfish and chicken fried chicken was really salty. Pancake was super flat with no real flavor. (They have all day breakfast) Definitely not made to order. It tastes like a frozen pancake. My son did enjoy the mac n cheese. The hush puppy was good but I can tell it's not homemade. read more

This Norma's used to be one of our faves when we moved into the area but it has gradually gone downhill. I noticed around the Covid era that they stopped their complimentary, delicious bread basket. Today's visit was just sad. I ordered the Country breakfast - chicken fried steak and gravy, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and biscuit. The hash browns and chicken fried steak were a very pale, barely golden brown. The crust side next to the steak was soggy so I think the oil wasn't hot enough. I remember seeing Norma's on Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinarions on Food Network from 2016.They filmed at another location. The food looked so good but it is now a fading memory. read more

CFS is usually some yummy comfort food, Norma's missed the mark. Our CFS's were tough, more breading than steak and our food was on the cold side. Along with the steaks we had mashed potatoes, green beans & greens, all luke-warm, to cool. The rolls were dry and hard & the cornbread was like heavy lead, dense and hard also. The atmosphere was cute with the adorable Ranger baseball booths. Our server was pleasant too. Oh, and they only had 1 piece of chocolate cake and we wanted 2 for a togo. Not impressed, nor worth the calories. read more

I remember it wasn't that long ago when this specific Norma's Cafe had a jar of black-eyed peas on the front counter. There was a contest you could enter to guess the number of peas in the jar. This always took place before New Year's Day. Fast forward to New Year's Day in 2025. They ran out of black-eyed peas 45 minutes before closing. So many people, such as me, get their black-eyed peas at Norma's. The staff today didn't seem to be aware of this New Year's Day tradition. I called the next closest Norma's Cafe in Plano and they had black-eyed peas. So I raced over there. read more

Today, we ordered breakfast delivered from here. Eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy. We were missing one bowl of gravy and instead of sending us biscuits, they sent day-old hot rolls. Hard as a rock. They obviously do not care about their quality of food at this location. Avoid. read more

Food is below mediocre. Breakfast patty saugages appeared to have initially been cooked a few days before and just warmed up a little. Norma's has this item they call a biscuit that has absolutely nothing in common with a real biscuit, other than you ca tell it contains flour. I don't really know what to call it; maybe cake without sugar. maybe a dinner roll except it's in this tall shape like a cake. One thing it's not, is a biscuit. And all their locations make the same horrible recipe. Service is just normal and the place is 'somewhat' clean. It's obvious that management just wants to be left alone. I will comply. I will leave you alone read more

My experience this blustery, stormy, morning is 180degrees different from other recent reviews here. Fluffiest scrambled eggs ever, home made biscuit, loads of thick center cut bacon, community coffee(!!) and good hash browns that needed 30 more seconds in the skillet (still good). Great service to boot. Price about a buck or three lower than others in the area. A strong recommendation for this place as a breakfast destination in Collin County. Allegedly great pies but, too early in the day for me. read more

Wow! Everything was amazing. From the comfortable Texas booths to the complimentary corn bread and bread rolls. Awesome and a Plano STAPLE. Service was fantastic. Waitresses were friendly, checked in on our table and food was so fast. My dish was the veggie scramble with the biscuit and hash browns. It was good. This was early morning breakfast at Norma's off Walnut Hill & Park Lane. Very disappointing bc the only thing fresh were the eggs! The cinnamon roll was a day old and hard as a rock! We asked for another one maybe fresher, please? But the next one was better but med hard. Seriously? We finally asked for one fresh out of the oven and got one. I think the lunch crowd was better on food quality and service. Bc I've eaten there for lunch and it was excellent! The ambience was quiet bc it was early morning and not crowded but yet the server was very inattentive to refilling our coffee bc she was talking to another employee and only came when we raised our hand & waved, which to me is a demeaning thing to do to a server. read more

Positive Feedback: the service was very good and I liked the booth shields! Negative Feedback: the breakfast food was HORRIBLE! The scrambled eggs tasted like play dough! Seriously! So I asked the waitress and she said it was the egg carton mix -- I knew my taste buds didn't lie. So I asked for real eggs and they too just were horrible but not as bad as the carton version. The sausage was completely dried out like the sole of a shoe. The bacon looked great but tasted like cigarettes. Which was strange because it wasn't visibly burnt. Maybe they reheat them and it was started to smoke in that batch? The grits tasted like water. The pancake was like easer consistency but it was good enough to still eat. Meh! read more
