I'm from Atlanta where you can't throw a rock without hitting a Waffle House, so I was excited when I saw there was one nearby in Austin. My roommate and I went over here Sunday morning for breakfast, and grabbed a table. We ordered coffee which the waitress brought to us in about four minutes, so far so good. She took so long in coming back to the table, however, that another employee (who looked like she was on break as she was sitting and eating her own meal at the counter) offered to get us refills. Finally our waitress comes back and takes our order. It was just shy of twenty additional minutes before the waitress came back to the table, informed us they ran out of country gravy which we had both ordered on our hash browns, told us the bacon was still cooking due to a mix-up on the grill, and dropped off our partial orders. Our food was typical Waffle House quality, so pretty decent for the price. When the check was dropped, I noticed we had been charged for three drinks, despite us both ordering drinks that came with free refills. When I brought this to the attention of the manager, I was informed that no correction would be made. I then explained our dining experience to the manager, who didn't even so much as apologize. We stopped after traveling all day. We just wanted a quick waffle. Waited almost an hour for our order, 2 waffles 2 orders of bacon, oj and coffee. Waffles were pathetic to say the least. Under cooked and barely warm. Server apologized and said " they were out of buttermilk and the waffles weren't coming out right" They were also out of coffee when we asked for a refill as we waited (it never came) Our server did a good job trying to keep everyone happy while one of his co-workers worried about feeding the juke box. Someone should have sent him to the grocery store for buttermilk or had him clean some tables, there wasn't a clean table in the place, it was a disaster, trash all over the floor, dirty dishes everywhere, Waffle pieces that they scraped off the waffle iron stacked up in a pile on the counter. Don't be tempted to stop! If you can't make a waffle at a waffle house, lock the door and go home. read more

Oh yeah, that All-Star special at $6.55 plus tax! It is THE dish to order here. It's so much food and so very satisfying. I never expect anything great going to Waffle house because, after all, it is what it is. A cheap breakfast spot and not much more. Well, this place might provide "decent" food or food you might love according to your tastes, but that's if you manage to stick around long enough to get your order. I met some friends from out of town that were craving it for some reason. It was cold and rainy outside so the place was half packed, but to be fair, the place doesn't seat much, so this doesn't mean there were tons of people. One cook. One waitress. One manager lady? Well the first 2 were alone when we got there. The waitress was just slow and really bad at her job. The cook apparently got confused and messed up orders. I could go on and on about the bad service we got, but in the end I can sum it up with the fact that everything came out at separate times for 4 people. The first items, waffles, arrived about 30 minutes before the last items, an egg and cheese sandwich and another plate with 2 eggs, hashbrowns, and a cheddar biscuit. The egg sandwich was done like a grilled cheese which was not what was wanted, and the eggs on my plate were barely warm. I waited a total of maybe 45 min for those darn eggs! I would have left way earlier, but since I was meeting my friends and felt it was rude to them to just walk out on them, I stayed. Nothing was comped. She finally apologized at the very end, but it obviously was just words that I think her manager might have had her say because she heard us complain. Maybe it's this dynamic duos' crappy cooking and bad service combo, but I will not be returning to see if there are other moments when this place is better. The one star is for the jalapeno cheddar biscuit that somehow managed to stay warm on its long journey to me. read more

Only thing I deducted a star for is that the staff seems a bit immature, aloof, silly, and loud. Been to this location twice and had a similar experience both times. How do I review home? The place is clean, friendly, smells good, unpretentious and a good value. If you want organic this and small farm that, don't eat here. It's simple and good. First visit- way better than expected! The waffles don't look like much, but they are packed with flavor and goodness. I ordered a pecan pancake and side of hash browns. Guests ordered jalapeño hash browns and a hash brown bowl. Not spotless, but it is sanitary and what is expected from a diner. Food is GREAT VALUE, waffle and hash browns were around $3 each. Fun waffle house hats were available upon request. Restaurant was packed upon arrival, small waiting area. We had a handicapped guest and only waited a few minutes. There appears to be a lot of employees, but they are all working hard and very friendly. Parking lot and restaurant are also small. read more

I loved our server. She was so sweet. But this place is filthy. My fork had a lot of chocolate on it from improper washing. There were straw wrappers and silverware on the floor. Spilled drinks have the floor wet. The staff were goofing around and far outnumbered the guests. I was stunned that none of them were sweeping. How can anyone not like Waffle House?! Everything is made to order and you can see it as it cooks! Your eggs are fresh and cracked in front of you to be cooked. Waffles are always large and taste great. You can get the All Star plate for only 7 bucks! Their stores usually do not fit a lot of people, so if your going when the crowds are there you will have to wait a bit but its so worth it. You can substitute and alter any of the plates to your wishes. You can load up the hash browns with almost anything that they have and it always taste great. The service can be iffy depending on what location you go to but nothing-less, the staff will give you whatever you need. Its one of the few places you can go eat breakfast alone and not feel completely awkward. read more

Great waffles, even better prices. I like to watch them pour batter on the iron. Taste pretty damn good. I love the cozy feel this spot has to it. I usually get breakfast foods here and haven't had any problems, just wonderful memories for my taste buds. Give it a try. My only other favorite waflle house is the Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles in Long Beach. But this spot will suffice for me. not I didn't give it a 4, because I wasn't blown away and the cleanliness wasn't spectacular for my tastes. However this is more of a low 4 rating than a 3 rating. Ordered a salad. Most of the lettuce was at the translucent, gooey point that means it's not fit for consumption. The tomato was at that grainy, watery point where I wondered if anything black or grey had been scraped off before it got to my "dish." It was called an "Apple Pecan Chicken Salad" but contained neither pecans nor apples. I honestly don't know why it was served to me, unless I had just done something to piss them off I didn't know about. Look... If you don't have the supplies to make something, tell me. I went for the first time with family. Came in to practically empty restaurant. A bug greeted us at the table. Took forever to get our drinks. When we got our drinks we were told they did not have straws. People came in after us and they got their food first. When we finally got out food..my eggs(over medium) were basically not even cooked. My bother in laws eggs were over cooked. Toast was not toast. I ordered peppered( jalapeño) hash browns. The peppers tasted like the peppers you get out of a can & put on nachos. The waffle house was a pleasant surprise. Although this place is a chain, there aren't any in California, so this was our first experience. Being a chain, we weren't expecting anything great, but we had to try it after hearing about it in all the raps. The waffles were really good. they're thin, american style waffles (not the thick belgian) but they have really good flavor. you don't really need to eat it with syrup (but of course, maple syrup makes everything taste better. the hashbrown was pretty good too. it's cool that you can get it prepared many different ways. our waitress was super sweet & friendly. she just made our whole experience all the more wonderful. read more

This is the worst Waffle House I have ever visited. Walked in the restaurant and there was a bad smell, along with flies flying everywhere inside. The employees were arguing amongst each other. The tables were dirty. My family sat at the only clean table that was available. The waiter that began to take our drink orders had just finished eating her own food and didn't go wash her hands. Waffle House seems to be pretty consistent no matter where you are in the country. This no frills diner with cheap, delicious breakfast and lunch food, and friendly, down to earth people is sure to please. I wish they would improve their grits, but everything else is delicious! No complaints on this Waffle House. Very friendly staff, we didnt wait more than 15 minutes at 11am on a Sunday. The all star breakfast is a ton of food that is impossible to beat. Not to mention it's about five minutes away from the airport and a very convenient stop. There is a 7-11 gas station on the other side of the parking lot making it easy to refuel your rental car on your way to the airport and save you the $9 a gallon your rental car company charges.
