I have been to many Waffle Houses over the years and this was by far the worst. Besides it being rather dingy looking inside I was not impressed by the food or service. My order was wrong, and I couldn't get anyone's attention to point this out afterwards. When our server came to check on us and I told her that I didn't get what I had ordered she looked at me appearing confused and told me to just pick out what I didn't want and set it aside. What???? That just honestly baffled me. We weren't offered refills either. I was going to complain to the manager but then realized that the manager was busy berating the employees for not clearing tables quick enough (when they were extremely busy) I decided not to bother. I definitely won't return here when I'm in Arizona next time. Very unprofessional all around and can't even inform corporate because apparently this is one of the few locations that are not corporate. I'm happy to be heading back home to West Virginia soon where Waffle House treats you like family. read more

My husband came in to place an order today, since the store doesn't answer their phones on purpose. This business honestly had a time and a place when it belonged here and now it's no longer needed. They do not want our business, they don't even want to work! They told my husband and my two kids they were not "DOING" to go orders, no reason, just they are not doing them right now. This is NOT the first time! I have called them before and told we needed to come in to place a order to go. So we try and come in to get food and they refuse to service my family. I called the so called "manager" Alexis and was told that it's because they are "short staffed" so they do not need to do to go orders. No honey. You as a manager of a CORPORATE CHAIN have a job yo do, if you are short staffed-be a manger and hire people ‍‍‍. It's kind of your job, but if you are not going to do your job then please just do us a favor and work a little harder so you can produce products your company requires you to offer. Obviously you don't go to the Waffle House for healthy food, but it serves a purpose. Having lived in that long ago, Waffle House was a cash only trucker's stop filled with smoke and country music on the old juke box. Now, there is no smoking and the clientele is more diverse. The interesting thing about Waffle House, and this location is no different, the parking lot has nearly twice as many parking spots as possible room inside. There were only about 10 tables plus the seats at the bar - and a wall of chairs serving as a waiting area. The waiting area is always full and people standing in front, in the lobby and outside. The booths not only are few in quantity, but they are small in size. In the crazy scheme to make money, you would think they would build larger restaurants - especially here in Arizona where there are only a few locations. I rarely get a waffle. WH is best known for the hash browns - scattered, smothered & covered, please. I get the Toddle Special - the ham & cheese omelet, hash browns, toast & bacon (or sausage). The chocolate milk is typically Hershey's finest and not completely stirred. Today I went with the coffee and it was fine. There are some good things about Waffle House - the service (once seated) is fast and typically friendly. While waiting in the long line for a booth to open, the restaurant provides free coffee, which is something you don't see many places offering. The people watching is always very exciting at a Waffle House. Last time I saw two big guys playing the role of the butt crack twins. Today it was some people looking like they just rolled out of the hotel next door. The food is good for what it is - the omelets are fluffy and the hash browns excellent. Now it is not cash only - they do take credit cards. You won't find a wait staff that would make a bestselling Women of Waffle House calendar, but they are efficient and friendly. One of the hardest jobs around would have to be that of a Waffle House cook. The waitresses take the order down and call it out to the cooks in their own lingo. They do not write anything down, but listen and repeat it back. Multiple waitress calling out orders to the same cook - yet the orders are always correct, at least in my experience. I had always heard of The Waffle House, but I live in CA & we do t have a Waffle House there. One late night while in AZ, my husband & I were starving & saw a Waffle House, so we decided to try it. I wasn't sure what to expect, but that all changed once we were seated. The waitress & other employees were so kind to us. They made us feel so welcome. Then came the food. The waitress gave us waffles for free just because they had some extras. I tried grits for the 1st time & absolutely loved them & they even have raisin bread toast. Today our server was Dakotah very nice, food isn't anything special but is always good. So today's I received an email from the restaurant for a free waffle, thought it was a nice surprise and we were going to be there anyway. Greasy spoon.....YUP! Besides the wait, this place brings back good memories. I love Waffle House. Reminds me of Kevin Costner in Tin Cup after he set the 2nd round record for scoring at 10 under par. Cheech asks him if he wants to go to a fancy joint to celebrate and have dinner and he tells them, hell no, he's a waffle house kind of guy. Well in some ways, I'm that same kind of guy. Except for the wait at this spot which was over 25 minutes, but it was a weekend and I used to live a few miles from here in Arizona so I took it for the team since my Dad also happens to be a Waffle House kinda guy. Gotta love those always tender hash browns cooked anyway you like them with hash, onions, ham, cheese (you know what else, lol) Hell, who can argue with .40 per egg extra. I had 6 eggs over easy and our waiter couldn't believe how quick they vanished with double hash browns. Highest price on the menu is the meat and waffles. Bacon is thin and fatty. Ham is highly processed and overpriced and sausage is a bit on the fatty side. Full of nitrates. Waffles are thin and the house syrup is a sugar alcohol maple syrup that is 35 cal per 1/4 cup serving but the damage is in the makeup of the syrup so if you get waffles IMO bring your own authentic maple syrup. My recommendation: For a good, quick and filling meal. Double your order of hash browns for a small upgrade and order the two egg special and get another 4 eggs @ .40c per egg. That's what i did and left feeling full without the cancer inducing bloat. Maybe the eggs are GMO fed (that should be changed) but the meat is not the highest quality here. My 2 cents, enjoy the Hash browns and Eggs. Bring your own warmed up uncured nitrate free meat and real maple syrup for waffles if you order them. Stepping off my soap box now... And yes, they were indeed delicious. And while I know not everybody (or possibly anybody) was having the exact same thoughts that I was, there were other tangents being explored. Like if you're not hungry, how many different ways should hashed browns be ordered? Is it necessary to ask for butter? Is the lighting at this particular Waffle House appropriate for the type of conversation that is being had? Despite having such existential quandaries, our waitress was top notch. She expertly dealt with our carrying on, our misgivings, and our general ineptitude with panache. It takes a certain kind of service staffer to talk trash to your customers and have them eating out of your hand at the same time. And we were lucky enough to find her. Food can be irrelevant. Arrived a little while before their opening (7:00AM) and was waiting for a buddy to arrive. Two employees went in around 6:25, about 5 minutes later one of them placed a sign on the door, I thought nothing of it. About 10 minutes pass and my buddy arrives and tells me they don't open up till 7:00AM and wanted to confirm by walking up to the door. We won't go near this location on the weekends starting around September to October because there are so many snowbirds there that the line is out the door. Before they even sit down some person other than a manager asks us to hurry up they are busy and need to open our table up for more guests. Fast service, once we decided what we wanted. Limited options, but they all looked rather tasty! Except for any with cheese on it. A shaking erupted from the northern side, spreading from the tables and chairs against the wall, to the middle counter covered in small plastic packets of jams and jellies. Vibrations move the entirety of the store moving menus and metal off the tables and onto the floor. A voice sounded from behind the counter, it's delicate whisper echoes thrice throughout enclosure. "Oh no" once, it warns from the kitchen. "Oh no" twice, it warms from restrooms. "Oh no" thrice, it warns from the ground. As the last echo dissipates into the abyss, the shuttering stops. The entire store is still, my body still adjusting to the lack of constant movement it had become accustomed to. Suddenly, the wall harboring the front exit slowly warps. The glass of the door cracks, the spiderweb across it slowly turning into darkness as the windows surround the door shatter into dust, spraying across the now cluttered floor. As the door turns to full blackness, it begins to swirl with a hint of green in the middle. Out through this portal steps one massive foot, formed of glass it sends a resounding thud across the silent building as it lands. Another follows as it's torso is revealed, taking the shape of a glass pitter, a face poorly painted upon it. The paint still dripping, the face looks of that one in pain, but uninterest. The fluid inside, one would expect to be red and liquid, is dark brown, green and purple swirl around with debris making appearances as the sloppy fluid turns ever so slowly, ever so constant. "Oh yeah" a simple but strong wave force pushes out as he stares directly at me. I'm stuck. My back's against the wall, my hands are glued to the table. I can't move, my mind screams to run, but my body can't react. With a slow walk, and a slight limp, the creature wanders over to me, his ginormous feet, opening several packets of apple butter at once, squish over as I remain frozen. Looming several feet above my head, he looks down to me, clear disintrest and discontent cloud his poorly painted eyes. "Food's ready dude". I can summarize this in one word. YUCK! We went for dinner/supper, which is part of the problem. We ordered t-bone steak and chicken. The salad bowl had a hole right through the plastic and the steak was way thin. We ordered it medium and any steak that thin just ends up being cooked as "well done" anyway. Everything comes with grease dripping hash browns whether you want them or not. At least the staff was friendly enough and food (if you call it that) was served quickly. My personal recommendation is that if you're not going to eat breakfast, go somewhere else. read more
