The server we had was very nice but wow they messed up every part of our order So basically we ordered 3 different menu items and they gave us the complete wrong items. Then we asked them to take it back and they gave us another random 3 items. On the bright side they pretty much took everything off our bill but it just would have been nice to get what we ordered. It's conveniently located from the main highway. It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service  staff who are working.  In this place a lot staff have been there a long time.  This restaurant still has that old time feel it's a definite classic type vibe and the  staff have been there for years it's about expectations this is not a mall based restaurant or a high end bistro somewhere.  The food was well prepared hot and delicious. Came in this morning to place a group order for my team (I work for a college basketball team). They were all so amazing and helpful, it was a breathe of fresh air. You'd be surprised by how unhelpful/rude restaurant staff can end up being when you're trying to place a large order. I didn't expect them to get everything cooked and ready so quick, so everything was ready about 30 before I expected. That being said, my ride back to the hotel was coming later, so I thought about walking about (10-15 min walk). Almost all of them volunteered to drive me down the street back to our hotel so I didn't have to (Whaaaaat!?). I am just so thankful to have had this great experience with them. Yes, I'm giving five stars to Waffle House. Is it gourmet? Nope. Is it gluten free? Nope. If you want nutrition, then order your hash browns smothered, capped, and diced. I think we can all agree that WH is a revenue generator for cardiologists. But it is darn good every time and you can usually eat for $10 or less a person. I was born in Georgia and my family has been frequenting Waffle House for generations, so my husband and I have to stop when we are in a town that has a WH. I even have a few family members that worked at a WH when I was a child. My husband and I had Waffle House with my Granny the morning we were married 21 years ago and he's still sharing his Waffle me. So I'm giving it five stars for being consistent with their menu, for the dishes that haven't changed in decades, for their hardworking staff that is trying to pay the bills like the rest of us, for being open 24/7 365 even on holidays, for serving truck drivers, travelers, those leaving the bars at 2:00 a.m., and families just like you and me. The employees at this location did not disappoint. Great service and food was delivered hot and fast. One of the employees took a break to eat a waffle next to us and when she stood up, she announced, "Now, I'm ready to conquer the world!" Me too, honey! Me too! Sometimes I wonder if I take my anti chain restaurant philosophy a bit too far. I've been in town for several months and I've never been here because I had an attitude against it. Today is Memorial Day and lots of places are closed but I was hungry early because I had just snacked for dinner last night. I went to another restaurant to see if they were open but they weren't so I decided to try out the Waffle House. I was really just craving a bacon and eggs start to my day. Their basic breakfast which is $7.70 before tax and tip and not including coffee was actually a ton of food. I got 2 eggs over easy, 3 strips of bacon, a pretty good-sized bowl of grits, a paper plate size waffle, two slices of raisin bread and for $2 extra a cup of pretty decent coffee. I also had the nicest waitress I could ask for and she was dressed to the hilt in her red white and blue outfit from hat to shorts. Just adorable. Everything was cooked perfectly. The bacon was nice and crisp the eggs exactly right, the toast crisp, Etc. When I asked if I could have 50/50 coffee of regular and decaf I was easily accommodated. After reading another reviewers comment about questionable silverware and coffee cup I checked mine carefully and they were immaculately clean. Everything was clean except the placemat which had obviously been wiped down but it's just hard to get all those stickies off of a placemat especially if kids have used it. It was as good as could be expected. Even the condiments weren't sticky which they often are in better restaurants than this. I try not to overeat regardless of how much food I've been given so I ended up eating one piece of bacon, both eggs, 1/4 of the waffle, half the toast and almost half the Grits. It was more than enough and I got a container to bring home the rest for breakfast tomorrow. The waitress even gave me a tall cup of coffee in a to-go cup for no extra charge since I didn't drink a second cup of coffee. The total with tax was $10.50. It came to $13 with the well-deserved tip. I left in a really good mood which is just how it should be. Believe me, I'm not one to give chains and fast food type places 5 stars and I did not compare this to a steakhouse or Mom and Pop homemade restaurant but rather to other Waffle Houses I've eaten at. This one was one of the best, at least based on this one trip. When I think of all the times that I was hungry after 9 p.m. and couldn't think of any place that wasn't expensive to grab a quick bite to eat I'll remind myself about this place in the future. It's not that far from where I'm staying and has good food for the price. I did notice a lack of a senior menu at this location. I have eaten several times at a location in Mesa Arizona and they have a senior breakfast and I think a couple of other senior plates. When I asked about senior meals the waitress pointed to the kids menu and said seniors can order from it. If I don't want to spend a lot of money and I'm not super hungry that looks like a great choice. They run about $5. read more

They had such an amazing staff, they were out going, had great communication skills, and such amazing food! The cook was funny by dancing and playing music and just having fun while he cooked. First of all let me say, I was not aware that the state of Texas allowed smoking in restaurants still!!! I find it quite appalling and disgusting. Luckily no one was smoking while I was there so I didn't inhale second hand smoke while eating my breakfast. Well, let me also say this place is a dump and pretty dirty with food all over the floors in the dining and kitchen area, but my table was clean enough I guess, lol. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and a biscuit, and my sister ordered an egg combo breakfast. I thought my omelet and biscuit were very good, but not really the hash browns. They looked like a little weird pile of greasy potatoes on my plate. I love hash browns so that was a little disappointing. Our waitress was probably a teenager, she was very nice and said y'all a lot. All of the cooks and other waitresses yell orders and pass tickets across the kitchen very loudly. It was definitely a strange and distracting process to me, haha. Overall, I would say Waffle House gets a 3.5, because my food was pretty good and filling, and also really inexpensive. I got 2 breakfasts along with orange juice and coffee for less than 12 bucks, good deal. If I ever pass through Amarillo, Texas again, I wouldn't mind eating here again. Nothing fancy, but very convenient (within walking distance) from the hotel we were staying at. There wasn't much people at the restaurant for a Thursday evening. Service was prompt and friendly. I had a cheeseburger and it was a typical cheeseburger with the usual fixings. It came with hash browns instead of the usual fries I'm used to when I get a burger. The sweet tea was not overly sweet and it was refilled for me without asking. Like another Yelper mentioned, I wished that smoking inside restaurants are banned like they are in California. I thought I'd give it another try because surely, the nasty person who worked there before had to be gone and sanitation had to be better by now. I walked in and noticed that it smelled a little funky. Half the restaurant was closed off, forcing you to sit in an area that didn't look very clean. But what I found disgusting was a woman sitting at the counter with what appeared to be a gerbil or small rabbit on the counter. She didn't appear to be eating anything. It seemed like she was just sitting there visiting her friend who works the grill. Okay, so you want to visit your friend while they are working, but do you really need to bring unsanitary animals into a restaurant with you? I get it, you love your pet. That doesn't mean that everyone else does too. Is it really thy hard to leave your animals at your house? I went in and ordered the Two Egg Breakfast, large bacon, hash browns, etc. when my food came out, it didn't look very good, and the eggs seemed to taste funny. There was a soapy taste to them, as if someone either only partly cleaned the grill and left grill cleaner on it before cooking them, or cooked them in a pan with soap residue. Or possibly just straight squirted soap into them. That's how bad it tasted. I obviously couldn't eat them. As I paid for the substandard meal, I saw the grill operator drop the grill spatula on the floor, and pick it up and put it back on the counter next to the grill. I decided to take a seat because it seemed that he had no intention of washing it or using a different spatula. He didn't even wipe it off. Poor management has made this one of the dirtiest places ti eat in this chain. We had a bite here and it was typical short order stuff and quick. Staff looks very unhappy as expected with the manager. I spoke with her and said "the floors are filthy with spills and debris to which she "explained" its end of shift. NO as we were there two of the staff just sat around on phones after doing minimal table cleaning. No pride of work here and it just saps the life from people.! read more

Waitress was awesome quick and friendly, food was fairly good but could be improved with using some real butter and real maple syrup. I would pay extra for it. This review is for the Waffle House on South Coulter As a vet I travel from Lubbock to the Amarillo VAMC every 6 months for a check up since my Liver Transplant 5 years ago. When I get to Amarillo with some time to spare I always go to the Waffle House to get breakfast. In the past 9 years it was great, grits made correctly (you could eat them with a fork) and service was very good. But when I went Monday 30Nov09 at 10:40 AM, I sat down at the counter right next to the register with only two others at the counter. It seems like at least 4 waiters were working running tickets and dumping dirty dishes right in front of me and not a single Hello or whatever as I sat for over 4.5 minutes. Finally a lady asked me what I wanted, not 'Are you ready to order' etc.! I was a little irritated so I asked only for a bowl of grits. To my horror what they served me was a bowl of runny grits that looked like potato soup! I walked out and will give The Waffle House one more chance when I go back next year. I sure hope that they improve on both service and cooking. read more
