I like this place a lot. Its nothing to special but for quick teriyaki chicken and rice its not bad. I would skip on the beef thought. I've gotten this a few times and really not worth much. If you want good beef I would suggest Yoshinoya on the other side of town. The chicken and rice appears to be very healthy and I really like the hot sauce that they use here. Has that Srirachi taste but not a fiery hot. Really good flavor wise. You get your choice of brown or white rice. I always choose white rice but I like that the option is there. Tried Waba out because it is literally 50 feet from where I live! It smells great in there- I find the menu somewhat limited though. I ordered a chicken plate and it pretty much just came with rice and that's it. Although the chicken was delicious, it seems like they count on their flavorful sauce to carry the dish instead of offering a complete meal; maybe some carrots, or broccoli, or something! Next time I will get a bowl I think- the picture looks like more of what I'm looking for. I just think that for $10 a chicken plate should be more than just chicken and rice. read more

I have gone to this location in the past and had the same experience but I didn't realize that their stingy servings, no extra sauces and just one napkin per person was a business model. Every time I come here the owner is super cheap and rude to me, she only gives one hot sauce packet and one green onion. I think it's so ridiculous how if you ask for more she gives you attitude and tries to charge extra as if I'm not already paying a lot for the meal. The other locations never charge me for green onions or sauces. But whatever when I told her it was fine to charge me for the extra sauces, I saw her look at my recipe again and she tried to charge me for a whole meal again, and I was trying to tell her why are you charging me for a meal I just want more sauces she was changing the subject saying how that it was only the sauces and urged me to pay already. Just went there for the first time, I got a coupon from the clipper "magazine" for a free drink. has a nice clean quiet atmosphere. Smells wonderful inside! I ordered th chicken and steak plate come with half an orange, and a small salad. I was worried about the typical restraint dish pictures vs. what was actually served, you know where the menu pictures shows huge portions and the actual mean contains hardly any. I was rather surprised to find fin the portion was good size, close to the picture. The dish was very tasty, sweet and not sugary, both chicken and steak had lots of flavor, but the steak much more so. as advertised the meal was quite lite, and filling. Next time I might get the bowl instead of the plate, it's a couple bucks cheaper and the plate only offers a small salad and half an orange, which were quite good, but might not be worth a couple bucks. Service was quick, I was able to take a 30 minute lunch and not feel rushed. Price was reasonable, I spent 8$ for the plate, and the bowls were 5-7$. I had intended to dine at Kampai but it wasn't open. Still hungry, i had no other immediate choice than to eat at WaBa Grill. I ordered "wild" salmon and a side of pot stickers. The pot stickers were decent but if their salmon was "wild," then i'm a monkey's uncle. Dry, tasteless, and chewy, not only did the salmon taste stale and old, it was covered and drenched in a sweet and sour sauce to the extent that i had to scrape it off to taste the fish. No wonder it's drenched in sauce (to hide the stale, fishy taste)!! They're generous when it comes to the rice, but rice is cheap and that's why!. By the way, they are located right next door to Kampai and yet, when i asked my server if she knew if Kampai went out of business, she played dumb and said she didn't know. This waba has the worst service I've had in a long time, not surprised it only has 3 stars. Every time I go to pick up my online order which is ready sitting on the counter, no one at the register and the cooks act as if they don't see me and apparently the only person who can perform basic duties such as giving someone their food that they had already ordered and purchased is the lady who seems to always be in the back doing something else other than helping customers. The food and quantity was OK but we were craving better. My wife does not want to patronize this place again. On the plus side, they had delicious brown rice, a healthier alternative to the white rice. Since its a one family operation, they close early at 8:30. Reconsidering this review, it really is hard to make a living running a restaurant, so any previous comments about the thriftiness of the owners is a little unsympathetic to what it takes to survive in this economic climate. I can respect those that work much harder than me at making a living, and that offer services I could never stand to deliver at any level. My first time to a Waba. Ordered the steak plate. The flavor of the sauce was good and the rice was good. But the steak itself was of extremely low quality that it ruined the dish. Do all Wabas use the same super low quality dog food type "steak"? Or is this one just going cheap on ingredients? The "plate" includes a salad which is decent, but very small portion size. Just the plate (not including drink) was over $10 tax included. Will not return. The tiny plastic to go cups for sauce (like you would see at a Robertos) were not available for self service. The lady at the counter did not smile and seemed bothered when I asked for teriyaki sauce to go. Also, what's with the robot answers to the reviews I'm seeing on yelp (including this waba)? I have visited here before and thought I would give it another try. I Ordered the steak and rice plate but both were over cooked and the rice dried out, they served three lettuce leafs (ok maybe 4) and squeezed out a drop of salad dressing. I'm within walking distance and my family could of been potential long term customers on those fast food runs. I think I'll try the Waba Grill on Channel Islands and Ventura Rd next time. Here's hoping this is an isolated incident because I've gone to other locations and never had this problem. I ordered a Chicken Veggie Bowl with extra chicken. When the almost $10 charge came up, I was shocked (prices must have gone up recently because it was never that much before), but I like the fresh food they offer so I didn't balk at it. I inquired if the prices had recently gone up and the woman taking my order abruptly ran through the charges that added up to $10 and didn't answer my question. Then I went to open the lid to add green onions and I noticed there was hardly any chicken. I politely asked her if maybe they forgot to add extra chicken, she glanced at it and said, "that's extra chicken" and walked away. No interest in discussing my disappointment that was obvious at this point. I looked at the menu they have at the counter... Go figure.. No prices listed. When you go to their website, no prices are listed either. Seems a little shady to me. They are way too expensive for the little amount of food you get. Healthy food isn't so hard to find that you have to pay $10 just to feel like you ate an appetizer and still feel like you're hungry. Where do I start. So my son and I walk in and order a couple chicken bowls with white meat. When they come out both have dark meat. So I let the owner know they messed up the order, to which he replied sorry they are already made. I said well I ordered white meat and I want them fixed. He refused and said what do you want me to do with these throw them out? I lose money you need to take these. I said either you fix them or lose a customer. Is it it worth it overt $15.00? He refused to remake them so I demanded my money back and walked out. I let him know I would never set foot in his establishment again and that I was going to share my story with others. My family really loves WaBa Grill. There are not too many places where you can order a teriyaki salmon plate. We made our first visit to the Oxnard location at the corner of Vineyard and Oxnard Blvd. The food was good as usual. But I am going to knock off two stars based on cleanliness of the store (all the tables were too dirty to sit at) and the cheapness of this store. Unlike all the other WaBa Grills I have eaten at this location did not have the cups/lids for the sauces, did not have napkins out, didn't want to give out the cups for the sauce. They ended up giving me one small sauce cup per item ordered even though I asked for "many" extra ones. When I saw how tiny they were, I asked for six more. I also had to ask for extra napkins. They are obviously just being really really cheap and that just rubs me the wrong way a little bit. The food is close to a five but overall I give this place a three, the lowest of any WaBa we have been to. read more

Don't waste your time or money. I've been here a few times and have always had poor service, but this last time tops the charts. The owner, was a jerk to me and my friend. I asked if I could add shrimp to my beef bowl and I was told NO. He then proceeded that I need to call the corporate and complain. I told him I don't want to complain, I just want shrimp. I said ok to the beef bowl without shrimp. Then he told me he would add shrimp to the bowl for 100 bucks! Wtf is that. This Waba Grill is the one next door to Extreme Soccer in Oxnard at 2373 N. Oxnard Blvd. We live in Camarillo but one day, when I was buying my son some soccer cleats at Extreme Soccer, we also stepped into the Waba Grill to look at the menu and ask a few questions. Though we had no time to stop and eat there that day, the owners were very kind, and answered my questions. The next time I was in the area, I took another reviewer's advice and ordered a waba bowl-with chicken and vegetables over brown rice, while I ordered a salmon bowl over white rice for my daughter. The portions were good for the price and the chicken, salmon, rice and vegetables were delicious. I really appreciated the welcoming atmosphere created by the person that took my order and how it was a short wait for our food, in addition to the food tasting very good. I am very glad I found this Waba Grill restaurant and look forward to eating there again and trying something else on their menu when we are in Oxnard another time.. Thank you, Waba Grill!
