May 2024 - Grilled Whole Squid & Rice (INI-WOW VALUE MEAL)
Lea L.

Grill City is located inside of Seafood City Supermarket in Oxnard. I've only been inside the store a couple of times & there's always a line at Grill City. Don't let the line steer you away, it goes quick. If you have someone else waiting in line with you, you can go check out what food they have that day, while the other person waits. It makes the line go smoothly if you know what you want ahead of time. Also, if you're new to trying Filipino food, you have some time to google some of the Filipino items if you're too reserved to ask. Haha... It's Cafeteria style, where you wait in line, pick all of your food items & they box it up for you. You can order your desserts & grab drinks too. Then you pay for everything. There's plenty of tables inside to eat there. TIP: It helps to grab a tray when it's your turn to order, especially when ordering more than you can carry. I appreciate the diversity of patrons in line & those that were dining in... I love that the Filipino Culture is finally getting some recognition here!! We ordered 2 Value Meals, which had a choice of Grilled entree + an additional food item. It was more than plenty for the 3 of us to share. They give you a generous serving of rice. We were happy with our order & our bellies were happy & stuffed. The lady who rang us up was cheerful, nice & appeared super eager to be there. We don't get that that often nowadays. I Love how she gave off positive vibes. We need more just like her. Please Keep it up!

Pancit and Pork Skewer

I was so impressed when I walked into Seafood City supermarket. It is clean and has such a wide variety of Asian goods. The mugs are adorable!! The bakery had so many items that I will need to go back to try. After looking around at all the people ordering their food at Grill City, we decided we had to try it. The workers were kind, although be aware that you will have a language barrier with some employees. After much consideration, the menu is extensive, I settled on the pancit and pork skewer. It also came with white rice as a combo meal. The price felt moderate, 12.00 for all that is pictured. Everything was going well until I realized that my pancit had shrimp in it. I am allergic!!! I was disappointed that the sign did not say this was a seafood dish!!! Or at least not translated. What had been a pleasant experience turned into a scare and trying to get benadryl as soon as possible. So because of that I am giving the 4 stars. I will be contacting management to alert them of this very high risk for potential injury to their customers. But overall the food was delicious, the other platters looked tasty and I would like to go back and give it another try, with a friend to translate .

We waited so impatiently for Seafood City to open and all of its restaurants to open. Naturally we had to stop and eat at Grill City. Delicious, authentic Filipino food. It's not fine dining cuisine, but worth every penny. We got the Whole Grilled Squid Meal with the Adobo Pusit. The squid had a nice char to it with just the right amount of chewiness. Goes very well w/ the vinegar and chili sauce. Huge cafeteria-style dining. Lots of classics - pancit, lumpia, kare kare, crispy pata, etc. And of course, halo halo. Plenty of seating options, and not too busy when we came for lunch during the week. Staff were very efficient. Easy parking. Good time.

BBQ Worth Fighting Over at Smokin Jay's BBQ & Coffee from Potheads Coffee…read more My wife and I recently stopped by Smokin Jay's BBQ and paired it with a visit to Potheads Coffee, and it turned into one of those meals you end up talking about long after you leave. From the first bite, it was clear this spot takes their BBQ seriously. Entrées: We started by ordering a brisket plate, which came with about 1/4 lb of brisket, roughly six solid pieces, along with macaroni salad and baked beans. Our original plan was to share, but that quickly changed after the first few bites. The brisket was tender, flavorful, and cooked just right with that perfect balance of smoke and juiciness. It didn't take long before we realized sharing wasn't going to cut it. So my wife went back up and ordered a brisket sando with fries, and it absolutely delivered. The sandwich came loaded with brisket, pickles, slaw, and sauce, all working together perfectly. The fries were a great side, crispy and a solid pairing with the sandwich. Sides: The macaroni salad and baked beans that came with the plate were both on point. The mac salad was creamy and complemented the richness of the brisket, while the baked beans added that sweet and savory depth you want with BBQ. Sandwich Details: The sando really stood out, especially with the addition of the slaw. My wife usually isn't a fan of coleslaw, but this one changed things a bit. It wasn't overpowering and added a nice crunch and balance to the sandwich, tying everything together without taking away from the brisket. Drinks and Service: Grabbing coffee from Potheads Coffee alongside the meal was the perfect move. What really stood out, though, was the service. Jay, the owner, was walking around checking in on customers and genuinely engaging with everyone. He even helped my wife decide on a coffee based on what she usually orders at Starbucks, which was a great personal touch. He later stopped by our table, chatted with us for a bit, and made the whole experience feel welcoming and personal. Ambience: The atmosphere strikes a great balance between laid back and lively. It has that casual, welcoming BBQ spot feel where you can relax, enjoy your food, and not feel rushed. Pairing it with Potheads Coffee adds to the experience, making it feel like more than just a meal but a spot you can hang out and enjoy. Overall: Smokin Jay's BBQ is hands down the best BBQ spot I've had in Ventura County so far. Between the quality brisket, well put together sides, standout sandwiches, and the personal touch from the owner, it's an easy recommendation. Pair it with Potheads Coffee, and you've got yourself a top tier Ventura food stop that's definitely worth coming back to.

Located currently inside the Ventura Theatre, you will find parking in the rear parking lot. Only open on the weekends, I had to plan my visit and stopped by on a Saturday 20 min after they opened. They had a line out the door! I took this as a GREAT sign. After waiting in line for 10 min we placed our order. We got a 1/2 pound of Tri Tip and Brisket, one sausage link, a side of Mac and cheese, brisket gravy mashed potatoes and chili beans. This ran us $70 bucks and it WAS WORTH IT. The brisket was the star of the show as it was very flavorful and smoky and cooked to perfection. The tri tip was good, just needed a bit more seasoning/salt for my liking. But it was cooked to perfection. The Mac and cheese was phenomenal as well along with gravy and mashed potatoes. Over all, would have to rate this place a 8 out of 10. Make sure you stop by and support this local buisness. Every penny spent here was worth it and I already can't wait to come back again. Thanks Ruff House BBQ for the great lunch, till next time.

The house-made chili beans were also flavorful and perfectly seasoned. The potato salad was solid and the coleslaw was delicious if you grew up enjoying KFC coleslaw. The meats live up to the high expectations we have for BBQ and it draws large crowds at lunchtime. The cashier at the counter was very friendly and helpful and the meal was brought to the table fairly quickly. The interior 2 dining rooms are spacious and the standout decor is comprised of large TV screens playing an eclectic selection of cartoons, sports and home improvement shows. The focus here is definitely serving up the best BBQ and fixings. We'll absolutely be back to try the ribs, and chicken.

I read somewhere across the street where this Location used to be in that food court is another barbecue place that I didn't get to try unfortunately because I'm pretty loyal to Buster's . it was about 730 on a Monday night and they close at eight so I figured you know what I'll give them a shot. Upon entering the business I could smell some of the meats we're still cooking on the grill so that's a good sign. I need a quick take on the pricing and wow unbelievable that this place at one time sold a tri-tip sandwich for 7.99 and a tri-tip dinner for about 13.99. now the sandwich is 14.99 and the dinner is 19.99.. there's a picture included. You can zoom in and see the prices for yourself but not sure how much I would get. I was starving. I got the dinner and I also got the sandwich. I can also eat the next day or simple some of my was not full. I opted for the potato salad, the coleslaw and the beans on the dinner and the sandwich just comes with tri-tip French bread and a barbecue sauce of your choice or you can get hot version which I avoid. So about 35.00 and I'm headed back to my hotel. I dug into the dinner first and yes, the tri-tip was kind of dry, but would you dip it into the barbecue sauce? It was OK. The beans were OK. I needed some seasoning potato salad. It was great and the coleslaw was just average coleslaw. nothing to write home about the butter. Bread was pretty good portions was it fresh it was warm. Could've been better.. I was given about 4 to 5 slices of tri-tip, which isn't really a lot so I attacked the language and took a few slices off of there and then put the rest away for tomorrow. Overall, it's decent maybe I should've went when it was fresher in the afternoon, but I probably wouldn't recommend going late in the evening as things are being put away and food tends to sit around for a while. can't really blame the price too much because we all know. Beef prices are insane these days but I think you should at least get more portions for the $$$$ you're paying for. on my next visit I head across the street and try the new place if it's still an existence cause we know that food court turns new places over left and right and it could be vacated on my next return..
