Found myself in Oxnard last weekend and in dire need of some healthy food! Thankfully Urbane Cafe was nearby and conveniently located in a shopping center! The parking was very easy and I strolled in. I was greeted right away by the friendly staff and was able to place my order. The food came out promptly. There are a few vegan options here but I went with one of my favorites, which is the Mediterranean bowl. I love the fresh veggies and hummus mix and everything here was perfectly ripe and crisp. I loved the seasonings and flavors. The restaurant was very clean and tidy with lots of available tables. The seating was comfortable and the ambiance was nice and relaxing. I had forgotten to order the free focaccia that comes with the bowl (I didn't realize you had to request it!) and the employee working was so accommodating and brought me one to my table! I'm obsessed with the fluffiness of the focaccia bread and it is a must order when there! I felt great after eating there and ready to take on the night! I recently had a class field trip at Urbane Cafe. The manager Jimmy was very welcoming. He was patient with the kids and explained all the hard work the staff does to make quality food. The kids loved their experience seeing the kitchen area and walking into the huge fridge. They also loved watching the bread being made. After the class explored and learned they had pizza in the dining area. All the food was very fresh and the cafe is nice and clean. This is probably my favorite Urban location in Ventura County, and I've never had an issue until today. I was already having a rough day and was really looking forward to a sandwich from Urban it's usually a little pick-me-up for me. My friend and I were talking while the cashier was finishing with the customer ahead of us. The customer had just stepped aside, and we were about to pause our conversation to order, when the cashier, in a very rude tone, said, "Are you guys done and ready to order, or do you need more time?" while rolling her eyes. I responded calmly (more of a "hey, give us a second" kind of way), because I'm never rude to service workers, but she continued to have an attitude throughout the entire interaction. My total came out to about $31.45. I pulled out a $50 bill, and before I even had the chance to hand it to her, she said, "I won't accept that." When I asked why, she said she didn't have change. That honestly didn't make sense to me I would've only needed about $19 back, and I've paid with larger bills here before with no issue. It was 6pm it was no where near opening or closing time. At that point, I didn't want to escalate the situation, so I just paid with my card and moved on, but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I understand everyone has bad days, and I'm very empathetic to that but there's no excuse to take it out on customers and make someone's day worse. I really hope this was a one-off experience, because this location is usually great. But it makes me want to think twice about coming here. read more

The bag that the order came in had TWO different order tags (my order tag was placed on top of the other order tag) and the meal in the bag was actually a DoorDash meal for Susanna (who placed the other order)! Well; there will 2 of us angry! I called the restaurant and spoke with the "associate mgr" and was told there was nothing they could do to assist me! No replacement, no assistance. All sandwiches comes with a side salad - even with the kids menu or you could substitute it for fruit - to round out a filling and healthy menu. In order to avoid any possible lines, I order my sandwiches online. It's been ready on time, and so far, every order has been correct. I just go inside, look for my name on the bag, and grab my order off the shelf. The sandwiches are tasty, moist, delicious, and I have zero guilt about eating it along with the fresh tasting side salad. Great Yelp Elite Experience today! I had never been in this location before today. It's a relatively small space with more seating in the back. On non busy days, dine in! The staff are super nice!
