I ordered wild salmon from Kanaloa for a catering job I did for a family at Thanksgiving! Kanaloa was very efficient with the order.. they cut each piece exactly as I wanted which made my preparation so much easier! Paola was exceptionally great and followed up with a phone call to make sure everything was on track . Super professional and friendly! The results were great and the family I cooked for loved the fish, which I made a pomegranate reduction for! Another note , I ordered fish tacos with a side of the Korean sauce and some chowder. Both were so delicious. The fish taco was by far the best I've had with no fishy smell exceptional fish . So delicious! New price for the fish tacos: 2 for $11 or 3 for $16. The clam chowder was $7 (without the bowl)--we ordered two bowls. The fish tacos were great. Didn't have a fishy taste, batter to fish ratio seemed balanced and the combination with veggies and sauces were great. The only downside is that they only give one small little piece of fish in each taco. Most fish taco spots I've tried give a larger portion of fish, smh. As for the clam chowder, we must've caught them on a bad day or something. I read other reviews raving about the chowder so I was pretty excited to try (that's why we ordered two). Idk if the soup had gone bad, but it had a sour taste to it. NO GOOD!! We ended up tossing the soups because we didn't want to risk eating bad seafood. UGH! What a waste of money. TAKE OUT: Service is pretty good. There seems to only be a couple people working here each tome I come, so they're pretty busy. I have been here multiple times and I keep coming back because they're the best option for food in a 5 mile radius. I typically get two items: fish tacos or Korean salmon tacos. The latest time I got the fried fish tacos, it needed a lot more sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly, the tortilla was so good, the salsa was so fresh, but it ate dry because it needed some sauce or something to kind of bring all the textures together. It's a shame they didn't put enough sauce. If you get more sauce, they are PERFECT. The Korean tacos, on the other hand.. had SO MUCH sauce that it was borderline salty. Having said that, the tacos are so amazingly flavorful and the fish is cooked so perfectly that you can easily forgive over saucing it. Both tacos are so good I can never choose which one to get. I would just highly suggest to get more sauce on the side for the fried fish in case they don't put enough. Overall, BEST PLACE to get lunch. When I followed the GPS directions, I thought for sure there must have been a mistake because it led me to a very industrial-looking street. But then, there it was tucked into the corner of an office building without any obvious signage! The first thing I noticed was the smell. As soon as I got out of my car, it smelled very fishy. I know, you're going to say "well, duh, it's a FISH MARKET,", but I've been to Tsukiji and it didn't smell this strong! I decided to give them a try anyway and had the fish and chips (so much for a healthy lunch). The fish was really good, beer battered, flaky and fresh. The chowder rivals the versions we've tasted in places like San Francisco. One reviewer is right about the fishy smell as you come in and the customer service could use some work. Great food and soft drinks! Its been months since I've been in and I was really impressed with the quality of the food this time. My corn tortillas were homemade. I dont remember them being that good last time. The sauce on the tacos were tangy and spicy. The fish was delicious and fresh. Most importantly, this place really is a green friendly establishment. They had all of the recycling bins for every item I consumed and that made me happy! FYI: I noticed the tacos price increased by $2 since I last was in December 2016. I ordered half lb swordfish then they would help me grill it w the cost $5. First slice, he sliced 0.97lb. I told him he could cut it into half, i wwould take half. He said that means he needed to sell half later. He would do it again ( so he doesnt need to sell the first slice after he cut the 2nd one????). 2nd slice, he tried to do very thin, i told him it was too thin, he said it should be almost half lb, couldnt be exact, and he gave us a 0.37 lb????? This fish market now has a kitchen that serves and prepares food during lunch hours. Small dining area, but I imagine a lot of people calling in or taking it to go being located in an industrial area. My first visit was on the same day as the grand opening of the kitchen. The woman at the counter informed me that their lunch hours are from 11AM to 2PM. I walked in a little after 2PM, but she said I can still order food because it was the grand opening and could use the exposure. Great initial customer service here. I ordered two crispy fish tacos with avocado. The presentation of the plate was great, but didn't match how the food tasted. The batter was soggy and no crisp. My tortilla was splitting because of it soaked in juices from the pile of pineapple salsa they top the tacos with. All I was able to taste was damn pineapple with each bite. It did not go well together in my opinion. Their prices seemed a bit high. A meal and a drink for one can be in the price range of $12-$15+. I will probably return at some point.
