First time trying Cajun Country Cafe. Definitely did not know what to order for dinner. The two men were very friendly & patient with us. They let us take as much time as we needed to study the menu lol. Tried the combination dinner w/ Catfish, Red Snapper & Shrimp. So good! The sides were great too. I tried these & liked them all: collard greens, red beans & rice, Mac & Cheese, even the potato salad. We devoured the cornbread & fried chicken. Ordered Gumbo To Go. It was salty for my liking. I added more rice to it, to help with the saltiness & to soak up the soup. Felt welcomed, had Great service here & great recommendations. I would definitely come back & try more. Will try to visit again sometime soon.

It smelled so good from the moment you walk in due to the food. They are very welcoming, kind and can help you if you aren't sure what to order. The food speaks for itself, jam packed with flavor and depth that go well separately or together . A go to for fried chicken, mac and cheese, as well as collard greens.

As a New Orleans native who's been searching for a taste of home since moving to California, I've found that most places outside Louisiana claiming to serve Cajun food try but often miss the mark. Cajun Country Cafe, however, gets it just right. I was pleased to learn that the owner is from New Orleans and his wife is from Natchitoches, Louisiana. Their recipes are over 100 years old. The interior feels like a cozy mom-and-pop shop you'd find back in New Orleans, with a welcoming vibe that matches the flavor of the food. I ordered the catfish plate with red beans and collard greens. The catfish was cooked perfectly--crispy and flavorful breading on the outside, moist and flaky inside. The red beans were a pleasant surprise, with a nice spice level that reminded me of home. They were tender, with that smoky flavor you expect on a Monday in New Orleans--if you know, you know. The collard greens were also tender and well-seasoned. I took a shrimp po'boy to go, along with a bowl of gumbo. The po'boy was good, even though it wasn't on traditional French bread. That specific bread is hard to replicate outside New Orleans due to the local environment, so I can't fault them for it. The gumbo was the only item that didn't impress me. I enjoy spicy food, but the black pepper was overpowering and masked the other flavors for my taste. There's a stage inside where they sometimes have live music. If this place were back home in New Orleans, I'd be a regular. I highly recommend giving it a try if you're looking for something with real New Orleans flair. The owners are wonderful and make you feel like you're being served a meal from their own kitchen. I'm looking forward to trying the fried chicken and boudin menu items when I return. Happy to have found this little gem.

If you're craving Cajun-style dishes in Oxnard, this is the spot to visit. It might be the only one in town, but the food is absolutely amazing. I've been here multiple times, and every dish I've tried has been fantastic. On my latest visit, I had the sausage Po'Boy, and it was delicious. My wife ordered the grilled chicken Po'Boy, and she loved it too. We also got potato salad, hush puppies, and gumbo rice on the side--all excellent. Other standout dishes I've enjoyed here include the wings and fried chicken. And don't miss the cornbread; it's heavenly. The staff is wonderful--very friendly and welcoming. I also appreciate that they take phone orders, which is super convenient. The location is decent, tucked away in a corner of a plaza at Ventura and 5th Street. If it were at the Collection, I bet it would be even more popular. Regardless, I'm just happy to have this place around and will definitely be a loyal customer for years to come.

Catfish po boy hit the spot

Was hanging around Hollywood Beach and searched copilot for a fried fish sandwich didn't realize how difficult it would be to find one so I settled for this place which was very hard to find in a very quiet and somewhat lifeless shopping corner. I went inside it was around 2:00 and it was empty. The co owner whose name I believe was Vince greeted me and was very helpful. I decided to eat a fried catfish sandwich with liquid red hot sauce on the side. The sandwich was a pretty good portion on a pillowy inside toasted sourdough roll. Came out in about 20 minutes thoroughly enjoyed it. They have a rather large than diverse menu but I was fixated on a fried sandwich from the sea and this hit the spot. Will be back to try other stuff. Also told me that there's live music on the weekends at night.

The food was great and the owners I presume were super friendly and personable. Unfortunately they forgot one of my sides from the catfish dinner I had ordered so that was a bit disappointing. I was really craving Mac and cheese!!! I didn't bother calling them because I was already on my way home to LA and I couldn't go back to pick it up for them to fix anyways so that's that. Other than that I would have probably given it 5 stars?

Next time you're in the area, stop by Cajun Country Cafe and get the baby back ribs with the Mac and cheese... unique one of a kind rub on the ribs and the Mac and cheese is to DIE for. My pregnant wife had her cravings satisfied.

Oooooooooh took me back to my visit in New Orleans but here in my home of Ventura county, this place has charm, charisma and that southern goodness !!! Yummmmmy I'd rate this higher if I could, a mom and pop authentic NOLA delight Great service ! Owners are sweethearts and the ambiance transports you to Nawlins They got a little stage inside and they said they do live music on Saturdays 7-9:30 pm

The thin $14 seafood gumbo and overcooked onion rings served today.

I ordered the $15 Seafood Gumbo and a side of onion rings. The onion rings were overdone and extremely hard and flavorless. The Gumbo was a very small serving for the price, and although the rice and broth were flavorful, there was no color at all and no vegetables such as okra or corn. There was little seafood to speak of: two shrimp and a very thin crab leg. The other meat in the gumbo was some shredded pork and two slices of andouille sausage. I've eaten here before and the gumbo was always much more substantial in the past. I was one of only two other guests shortly after lunch time, so perhaps the staff was running low on gumbo and diluted it. I include my picture from this time and one from three years ago during Covid. A substantial quality reduction

Warm welcoming restaurant and the catfish dinner was really good and fresh. Since I moved to SoCal, I couldn't find a place that makes good fried catfish, it's as good as I had in the South. I totally approve and would definitely come back again.

    " beignets"

I'd give this 0 stars but 1 will do I guess. The first time coming here, the food was SO SALTY. The brown gravy tasted like thickened salt. . So bad. The shrimp and grits were mid. It was my second time going, and I ordered the beignets. They were not beignets. It seemed like there was maybe no yeast in them. We returned them. And the owner refused to give us our money back. Very unprofessional. i've never seen beignets made this way in my entire life. And for almost $30!!! No thanks. I really don't believe all the reviews for this restaurant.

    Dry fried chicken

I think I am done with this restaurant. They used to be good and I wanted to give them another chance but I know jiffy corn bread when I not only see it but taste it! The fried chicken was definitely fried earlier ir even yesterday and it was not crunchy and it was dry! I ordered fries and got beans with burnt sausage links and rice mixed in along with very so, so and very wet mac n cheese. Sorry but you were good when you started, like very good. Not sure what changed but change it back. I hate to see small business especially Black owned ones fail

For so many years I'd been eager…read moreto find a spot that truly served up 5 star BBQ and after trying a few spots I was disappointed and the hunt continued. Thankfully due to a supper club hosted by Yelp Central Coast I was finally able to try them and I fell in love. Lofi was everything I had been searching for and then some. Fast forward to them being on my mind for months I had the opportunity to give them another try at one of their pop up events. The lines proved that everyone in the community loves Lofi as much as me! Family owned and operated this business is all about good vibes, teaching others about west coast bbq, their love for feeding their community and no ego. Steve and the family truly want you to have a wonderful experience and make you feel at home both with their kindness and the food that they put on your plate. Supporting them in this bbq community has been a refreshing experience as they are so kind and open to feedback. I love that they have fun pop ups opposed to a standard brick and mortar. They chose this because they truly want their bbq to be accessible and available to those that don't always have the opportunity to try them. They definitely give back to their community and supporting them is a win for our small but mighty 805 community. Okay now on to the food! Claiming anything is the "best" in the 805 is a bold move but I stand behind the flavors and complexity that Lofi brings to the table. West Coast BBQ makes me feel proud to be from CA as I've had bbq all over the states and they are doing us proud here. They have a killer bbq sauce that's the perfect mix of sweet and savory. Their meats and proteins are always cooked to perfection and juicy! My two favorite meats they do hands down is their 1. Brisket and 2. Pulled Pork. Their brisket is so flavorful and I love the little bit of fattiness that comes through. Also having never been a pulled pork girl, Lofi changed the game for me - so good and the flavors are on point. Another bite worth mentioning are their ribs, great seasoning and generous portions. I like to cut all of the heaviness of the bbq with their coleslaw. Makes for the perfect bite. I know they have a good amount of other sides but I'll need to give them a try. I am so beyond happy that we have Lofi BBQ in the 805. Their family couldn't be nicer and more welcoming. They are doing good work out here and I'll definitely continue to support them and spread the word on this amazing bbq spot.

Both were AMAZINGLY delicious. Move over CJ's, there's a newcomer in town. The pull pork was bursting with flavor, my tastebuds and some of my senses went wild. They didn't know what hit them. The meat was tender, soft, moist and thick. As you brought that pull pork sandwich close to your mouth, you could smell the smoked pork. Once it hit your mouth, it mushed and was easy to chew. It's shredded look was deceiving because it looked firm but this meat was juicy. They were generous with the serving so every bite was a mouthful. Good quality meat, smoked and season just right. Served on a yummy buttery bun with a kickass mildly spicy sauce. I'm telling you the flavor was off the hook. I highly recommend this BBQ for your catering needs. IN-N-Out got nothing on Pleasant Burgers. These burgers are IN!!!!! These burgers were juicy, and flavorful. It took me back to a little nostalgia. If you ever tasted Top Hat in Ventura, it reminded me of those burgers. It had that authentic homemade burger taste. Their grilled onions took it up a notch. If you were lucky enough to try the "Pile" then you went home a happy camper. Having the pull pork added to the cheeseburger was to die for....Uhhhh....YUM!!!!! Winning food experience for sure. Don't sleep on this.

Food came out within 5 minutes on a Saturday at lunch, which I was weary about since it's BBQ - but everything ended up still being hot and juicy. We ended up going with the 3-meat plate for about $30 total. It was enough for 2 people (or 1 really hungry person!). We ordered the brisket, burnt ends, and hot links which came with garlic bread and two sides of our choice - the star of the show was for sure the burnt ends, which were juicy and deeply flavorful. The brisket was moist, which I feel like is hard to find, but I do wish it had more flavor. The hot links were also good but didn't have much nuance either. Next time, we'll definitely save room to try some dessert, which was only $5! If you're in the area, definitely check this place out!

While I understand the restaurant leans into vintage and Southern-inspired themes, one of the large photographs on the wall appears to depict a pre-Civil Rights era social gathering with an all-white crowd. Given the historical context of that time period, imagery like that can feel uncomfortable or exclusionary to some guests, even if that wasn't the intention. I share this feedback not to criticize the restaurant's values, but to encourage thoughtful consideration of how historical imagery is experienced by a diverse customer base.
