Very average BBQ... I'm a self-admitted BBQ purist, impartial to NC BBQ, but have also had some of the best BBQ in TX (Terry Blacks, Goldees, and Franklin), and this is simply not TX BBQ. The restaurant is situated off the beaten path in the business district, but it's impossible to miss with the huge smoker sitting out front. It's a small restaurant with just a few tables and the ordering situation is a bit wonky (just one small window to order and pickup from). The staff was ultra-friendly and the food came out quick. As for the food, it was just okay... The BBQ itself wasn't bad, but it was definitely precut and kept in warmers (this would give a pit master down in TX a myocardial infarction as this is a huge "no no"); the sides were actually really good though. The total was about $30 for lunch, which to me was a bit high based on the quality of the BBQ. Overall... Not bad, not great, but not certainly TX BBQ. read more

An amazing spot to grab some BBQ in Oxnard. This spot is unassuming and what appears to be in a business area of town away from foot traffic. We probably wouldn't have dropped by it if someone hadn't told us about it. The staff was kind, friendly, and gave suggestions when we asked questions about the various meat options. The cash register is right straight in as you walk in. There are communal benches outside and a few high top tables inside, but the restaurant seemed to get a lot of pick up orders. Food came out within 5 minutes on a Saturday at lunch, which I was weary about since it's BBQ - but everything ended up still being hot and juicy. We ended up going with the 3-meat plate for about $30 total. It was enough for 2 people (or 1 really hungry person!). We ordered the brisket, burnt ends, and hot links which came with garlic bread and two sides of our choice - the star of the show was for sure the burnt ends, which were juicy and deeply flavorful. The brisket was moist, which I feel like is hard to find, but I do wish it had more flavor. The hot links were also good but didn't have much nuance either. Next time, we'll definitely save room to try some dessert, which was only $5! If you're in the area, definitely check this place out! read more

Huge Texas style bbq fan here so had to check them out. Stopped by for dinner on a Friday night at 4:30 pm and this joint was empty. Location is a bit funky, in a buisness district area but easy to find. Walked right in where we noticed they had two little dinning areas and you walk up and order at their Dutch door. Spent $40 bucks on a tri tip sandwich with potato salad on the side and also a shredded pork plate with coleslaw and Mac and cheese. The meat was very smoky, like liquid smoke taste. Portions of meat were very small and aside from the smoke the meats did not have much flavor. Both meals had puddle of oil at the bottom of each plate. The sides were all ok, needed more flavor. Coleslaw wasn't fresh. Overall, if you do come here probably try something else? For $40 bucks we barely ate our food as the smoke was so overpowering. We are huge bbq fans so we we're a bit dissapointed with our experience today. But it was good to check out a local buisness and I reccomend that you try them for yourself and make your own judgement, be safe out there folks! read more

I thought this place had great food. However, its not at all your typical restaurant. It does not have a restaurant ambience. It's located in an office park and you order from a window inside that's cut out from a door leading to the kitchen in the back. They have a few tables inside and also some outdoor tables for dining there. However, I did feel this place seems much more amenable for take out to me. The lady taking my order was very friendly and courteous, and I really enjoyed the food. I ordered the "World Famous Tri Tip Sandwich", which comes with a choice of one side. Pulled off the 101 freeway on a drive up the coast. At the time, this restaurant had a 4.6 star rating, which is pretty good for barbecue. The food was a 5.0, in my opinion, and I tried three different meats. No complaints about the tri tip or the brisket. The hot link is the classic style, not the popular jalapeño cheese sausage. I prefer the classic and it was good. The plate includes a tasty roll that was toasted like Texas toast. It comes with one side and the bbq beans were very good. My four-star rating was due to the ambiance and the service. Once inside, there is a short hallway with a narrow window to order. It is enclosed with plexiglass (apparently leftover from Covid) with a small square cut out of the middle to receive your food. Very awkward. They ask if your order is dine-in or to-go. In my case, I ordered dine-in but they served it in a bag and styrofoam box. Not a huge deal, but the guy who handed me my food was not friendly or helpful. He had to ask permission from the cashier to give me a second tiny cup of sauce. And speaking of sauce, the have regular and spicy. I love that! There are three dining areas. The two downstairs are very small with about seven tables total. The furniture is a mishmash of tables and chairs and none looked very comfortable. The areas were not very clean and an employee was taking up one of the four place tables. Maybe I'm particular, but I don't think employees should ever take a break where the customers eat. This was the rule when I worked at In-N-Out Burger in the 70s. Value? Really good! My plate was under $20 and included good portions. One of the best barbecue deals I've had recently. I regret adding a tip since the service turned out poorly. Would I go again? Definitely, but with lower expectations. I do have some suggestions in case the owner reads this: 1) Love the sauce but use slightly larger cups 2) Provide hand wipes. They're not expensive but very helpful 3) Add pecan pie to your desserts 4) Change the order/pickup window! 5) Offer more than one size fountain drink 6) Encourage employees to be friendly and helpful. My only issue is that I wish there was more. My friend got the ribs. Seriously it looked like the ribs that Fred Flinstone used to get. The only drawback for me was the sauce. I know, I know. This is a true gem in Oxnard and worth the weekly drive from Los Angeles to eat at this amazing Texas bbq. Everything is delicious but I always get the brisket, burnt end, and beef ribs on Saturday. I reached out to It's in The Sauce to find a caterer for My Grand-Father's celebration of life. I spoke to Evelyn and she was wonderful. I had called her on a Sunday, and even though that's their day off, she was so helpful and friendly. Evelyn and Wayne were wonderful to talk to over the phone, everytime. Just went the other day for lunch. It's next door to my office and I had never been before. There's a walk up window to order. Feels kind of like the "hole in the wall" restaurant that you don't want to sleep on! It's pretty small, but they do have indoor seating available as well as tables outside with shade. The food came out quickly. The menu is plentiful and priced very reasonably. I could have ordered a whole meal with just the sides alone. They all looked delicious, but I settled on the potato salad and baked beans, which I was not mad about. The potato salad had a little crunch too it and not a lot of mayo, which I do not like. The beans had some pieces of meat and great flavor as well! I had a bite of my friend's Mac and cheese and that was so good! Not dry, cheesy and flavorful. I ordered just the half sandwich and got the brisket. It was tender, juicy and so much deliciousness packed into the small sandwich. The portions were perfect.
