The only thing keeping this place from being a 3 star average place are the employees. One thing I liked about this Von's is that they are almost all very friendly and helpful, and will ask you if you need help when you pass them in aisles. Pros: Staff, Parking, Decent selection Cons: Understaffed checkouts, Seafood section death-smell (OMG horrible), bum often guarding entrance, deli sometime unmanned, dingy I most often shopped here and enjoyed running into my favorite employees pretty regularly. Product selection was average, produce seemed fresh, pretty much what you'd expect from a grocery store. It was a little dingy - needs more lighting, needs more ppl on staff at registers but can't discredit the ee's as they were efficient & helpful. Oh, the seafood section was blasphemous - so bad as to offend God. I don't know if they hid bodies back there or what, but the smell has got to go. It seemed to not spread much further than the seafood section and bakery, but there's something unappetizing about being in a bakery that smells like a week-old crab roll. If you go here regularly, you will inevitably encounter the (presumably homeless) Jamaican guy on the electric scooter guarding the entrance. Give him a couple bucks and tell him to turn his damn music down. People are here to grocery shop, not to f***ing smoke from a hookah and chill out. That's up the street. read more

I was in town visiting relatives but know better now to never come back to this place - the place is a dump, products expensive, and the staff is rude! The seafood counter employee, an older black man, clearly hates his job. He got annoyed with me for having to repeat his question and then he heaved these big sighs for the rest of our very short encounter. He did not answer me when I asked him to remove the skin from the salmon filets. I asked him again and he said, YES . I . WILL! His voice was raised; his tone was harsh; and there was a pause in between his words. I was quite taken aback by this! He then offended me again by asking me if I wanted anything else, in the same rude and condescending voice! I told him yes, he could put everything back. I had to circle the front of the store a couple of times before finding another employee, who also seemed to hate his job, he told me where the manager was without looking at me or even slowed down. The store manager was another let down, she didn't seem to care! The way she was acting, I wasn't so sure she would talk to the rude fish man. I went down the street to Trader Joe's, wow, what a difference in attitude and work ethic! Prices were much better too! After paying, I said loudly enough for people around me to hear how I like the store so much better than Von's! read more

The Grocery store is great here always friendly employees and short lines. However, the Deli is a whole different story. The employees in the deli are not at all friendly and have some of the worst food safety habits I've ever seen. I can and have overlooked the occasional wiping of their hands on various clothing articles but today was definitely the last straw and I will never go back. While waiting in line for my turn to order today I witnessed an employee assisting another customer return from the back area of the deli and wipe her nose and then proceed to continue making the customers sandwich! I'll have my sandwich without snot thank you very much! Instead I left and went to Panera instead. read more

I live in the area and this Vons is within walking distance. The store is open 24 hrs which is great and everyone from the cashiers to the Deli is always super nice. The parking lot can get a little crazy, but its totally worth it. read more

I'm giving this market 2 stars simply for the people there, who are all very nice. I only use this market if I'm being lazy since it's it's on my way home, and it never fails to disappoint. Weak produce section, frequently unstocked shelves, poor selection in general. It's a poor man's Ralphs. Even the milk has way less time before the expiration than the Ralphs. Ugh. read more

Studio City is a great location to live, why not have a decent Vons there. The people who work here clearly don't want to be at work. They rarely have enough lines open for people to check out. It is the opposite of Trader Joes team atmosphere. They must get the last selection of meats and fish, as everything always looks old. The store is overstuffed and cramped. I went to the Vons last weekend in Palm Springs and got the most amazing breakfast sandwiches. I knew that there was a Vons near my home in Studio City so I was excited to start frequenting that establishment and start getting the sandwiches more often. The nice guy in Palm Springs said that I should call ahead to the Vons when I ever want to order sandwiches and just pick them up to save me time. I called yesterday to get a couple of sandwiches made and when they finally answered they claimed that they were too busy and couldn't do that. I came in today to get a couple of the sandwiches made and I waited in line for 20 minutes when she finally came to take my order I started ordering two of the breakfast sandwiches and she told me that they don't make those after 11:00 AM. I looked down at the ingredients and could clearly see that there was eggs available for sandwiches and I asked her, "isn't that a egg?" She looked like A deer caught in the headlights. I decided not to get anything and take my business elsewhere. Obviously this employee was lazy as hell and didn't feel like helping a customer out. What a shame. Back to Ralph's I go! Here's an idea for some customer service. I came in tonight around 7:30pm. Stopped by the hot prepared food to possibly order some fried chicken. I knew this was a risk going into it but i thought I'd give it a try. First, the chicken looked really bad. Very dry, burnt. I was told it had been out a couple hours. Then I asked if I could substitute a couple extra thighs instead of 2 legs for the $7.99 8 piece. He said no, I could only substitute thighs for the breasts. Keep in mind it's 7:30pm, the chicken was old, and the bin was completely full. Chances are it's going to be thrown out anyway soon. You're clearly not going to sell it all so what's the issue with giving me a couple of different pieces at this time of the day? I chose not to get the chicken and went elsewhere for food. Now, is losing $7.99 going to put Vons out of business? Of course not but come on. Use some common sense when dealing with customers. read more

I live in Encino so I usually grocery shop there or in Sherman Oaks. But I was in Studio City and needed Orange juice so I popped into this Von's and the market was so nice I decided to do all my grocery shopping. I normally go to Ralph's in Encino and their produce department is so depressing that I have to shop separately for fruits and veggies at Whole Foods or Gelsons. But the displays at this Vons were so nicely laid out that I wanted to buy fruit. The produce guy let me sample apples and everything tasted crisp and fresh. Also while shopping, many employees approached me and said hello and offered assistance. I just got a really nice community vibe while shopping there. I definitely will return to this Vons to do my shopping even though it's a further drive. As a bonus, I found some tasty packaged Edam cheese in a specialty case by the butcher. I never find Edam so that made my day! read more

I was picking up things that I needed. Then my shopping experience was interrupted with a (Bong) noise. It was like an alert. Like someone is at the back door. I went to the front and they told me that someone must be standing in aisle 3 and we are busy so we can't help that person so the alert will keep going. This Von's has the worst service of any market in the valley. Every single time I go there, whether it's late and I'm getting a midnight snack, or Sunday afternoon, there is always only 1 checker stand open. Maybe two if you're lucky, and always, always a line. Always. There is always stock all over the aisles and nobody offers to help you ever. Gelson's and Trader Joes and Ralph's in Studio City all blow this grocery store out of the water and I stopped going to Von's as much as possible. But it's been a while, so again today my opinion about this market was reinforced when I decided to kill two birds with one stone and get my Starbucks while buying my boss some flowers for their birthday. I waited at the floral station for quite a few minutes. No one responded. I asked someone in produce to call someone for me. Had to say "excuse me" very nicely to him 3 times before he even turned to look at me. So then he called someone over the loudspeaker. No one came. Two minutes later I had to walk over to a check stand and ask them to send someone again. They announced it a second time. So when I walked back over to the floral station, I had a red-headed woman employee give me the stink eye and grab the two dozen roses out of my hand abruptly and walk away with them. I said excuse me, "Can I tell you what I want to do with them?" Her response was very bitchy... "I'm not even the florist but I guess so." Then another woman walked over and just stood next to her watching her, also giving me the stink eye. I said "are you the florist" and she said "yes...and I'm on my lunch break" and then turned her back to me and stood with the other girl for a minute before leaving again. I just said "so sorry to bother you but I just would really love to buy these two dozen roses and have them wrapped nicely. I'm sorry if that upsets you but I don't want to feel badly or as if I'm bothering you. I'm just a customer who would like to purchase something." She then just handed me the flowers which were clumsily wrapped and didn't thank me for my purchase and walked away. To top it all off, by the time I got back to the Starbucks, my order of 1 drip Pike Place and an oatmeal was still not ready. Seriously unbelievable. There is only one checker there who has ever been nice to me and he's a tall bald man with glasses who usually works at night. Other thank that, this place has hands down the worst customer service of any grocery store I've ever been in. It's a shame because it's so close to my house and I use all of the other businesses in that complex. read more

If I could rate this store a zero I would. I live less than a one minute walk away and yet I'll go the longer route and drive five to ten min to go to a grocery store (I'd drive in stop and go traffic or walk an extra mile or two to get to ralphs or gelsons than walk 500 ft to this terrible store). This branch is just the worst. The prices aren't great and item selection is very limited. And, it's not even convenient either. Going in and getting one item is still a twenty minute ordeal as there are very few cashiers and each are very slow (yet they are courteous). It's clear this store needs better management and self check out. Yet, the owners are too cheap to fix these problems. And, I've seen a couple of times management mistreat customers and its employees (one time the manager mocked and criticized a customer that was on government assistance). Seriously, this area deserves a better grocery store (pavilions in Sherman oaks is the only other store possibly worse than this place). This vons should be closed and replaced by something better. read more
